A LOT of Disturbed's lyrics are wholesome. It's only really their first album that was violent. Maybe some parts of Asylum, but even those were with a purpose.

I grew up loving the original I'm 53, Mom n Dad raised me on ALLLLL the good stuff....I was able to see these guys preform it live here in Jersey and I can promise you,the entire place was shaking and not a dry eye in the house...it was right after they released it...to say it was a moving experience .....truly beautiful and I love reading that you too appreciate it ❤️

There is a Christian song called Tell Your Heart To Beat Again, and the story behind it involves a friend of the musician being witness to an open heart surgery where the head surgeon had everything done but the heart hadn't started beating on it's own yet so he leans in to tell the patient still on the table that they have to make their heart start beating again. Which it did do soon enough. Will never forget that story! This Disturbed song is great, although his version of The Sound of Silence is breathtaking!

Thank you, Disturbed. I waited 45 yrs for someone to do this song with the emotion and force that the prophetic words required. It was worth the wait!! I'm 68 yrs old and have loved this song since it came out, but I always felt it didn't do the message justice...until YOU!!!!
Same, I'm 60, and this is the only version that is anywhere near the emotions and sounds needed to do the song justice. The first time I heard it, I had to play it for my family.

@HighStakesDanny the sickness got 5x platinum, singles fron every album have made top 10 of mainstream rock charts. They have 3 Grammy nominations. I would put that almost solely on David . Their drummer is average as are the guitar and bass players they wouldn't even have the success they do if they had an average vocalist. Every person I know who has heard disturbed has never said a word about anything other than the vocals. Best way I can agree he is underrated is because metal isn't a popular genre and isn't mainstream.

That's why David is one of the best musicians. That primal "OH-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah" makes Down With The Sickness what it is. An amazing peace of music which will be played for decades.
Its more like the cherry on the top of a sundae. Sure it is an impactful piece, but really it was the intro that made the "OH-AH-AH-AH-AH" what it is and David even says this. The song would have been pretty awesome regardless but this just made it that much better.
I can never completely reconcile how sweet and humble David is as an interview subject with how aggressive and perfectionistic he is as a performer. Dude is like controlled fire on stage.
It is in large part but just like some musicians use complicated and difficult playing to cover up their lack of musicality (something to say) some use this as an excuse to not progress and do interesting things with sound aka. Music. Music is not entirely about feelings. If it were we wouldn't even have it. Music is a form of communication and unless a person is an overly emotional wreck they don't communicate their feelings with every gesture or word. There is a place for interesting ideas and even pushing the physical boundaries of instruments. Furthermore, there is a such thing as complex feelings. Music for the sake of "feelings" is just as boring as music for the sake of complexity. There needs to be a balance. Something else to consider here is that what is complicated to you is not necessarily complicated to someone else. There is absolutely beauty in simplicity and sometimes that's the hardest to pull off but that speaks to the beauty in "complexity" more than in simplicity. Last but NOT least; "fast" is not complexity. These are my opinions, of course.

Honestly ANYONE that knows the song knows it by Mike's drum intro more than the famous scream by David. The Sickness is easily my favorite album released in '99, even though, Korn, Incubus, H.I.M, and Metallica all had good or great albums that came out the same year.

Never ever listened to this type of music - I’m a house music girl. But I heard the ‘woh ah ah an’ and it gave me the deepest of chills - I loved it,, so found the track , and loved it, the chorus is insane .. the woh ah ah ah is utterly primal ❤

It's such a brilliant choice to begin the song that way; it's the kind of intro that absolutely demands our attention and tells us, "You will hear us, you WILL pay attention." Love it!

I also appreciate the songs that seem particularly personal like Perfect Insanity, Torn and Darkness. I also really like Part of Me because it’s the best of both. I also enjoy the bigger hits, of course. I think covering Simon & Garfunkel was brilliant because it was such a fresh take on a great piece of music and it really shows off your voice.

It’s crazy, in the song that “oh ah ah ah” was so loud and now when he’s talking about it, it’s just above a whisper level. Shows how he actually is opposed to how he is as a front man. Truly a humble human. Anyone else would have taken that moment and put as much force into that sound as they did in the song

This song means so much to me.. I just heard the clean version on the radio the other day and was extremely disappointed.. my mother used to beat the hell out of me and so this song truly speaks to me.. I’ve always felt so alone having a mother like that..

My oldest daughter's first "words" you could say. She was raised on rock music since the womb! We had house parties and attended concerts regularly pre-pregnancy. We continued to do so, mom just had to stop partaking in alcoholic beverages while expecting. So my daughter was used to loud music since the womb. After I gave birth and while she was an infant we were new parents and therefore kind of home bound. We still had house parties and when she would get fussy we would turn the music up. At the turn of the century when she was born we listened to a lot of Disturbed, Korn, STP, and Godsmack. The music would comfort her and help put her in a rhythm in her baby swing to help her self soothe. Around 6-7 months she squealed out the "Ah Ah Ah Ah" phrase at almost the same time it happens in song! EVERY TIME I hear that song it reminds me of her in the early days. She is now 21 and we have seen Disturbed together 3 or 4x. We told our story while in line waiting for a concert in Richmond, VA and one of their roadies took us backstage to interview us for a future documentary. That concert was about 4 years ago don't know if we made the cut for the documentary but it was an awesome experience and we were ended up front row right up against the stage for doing so!🤘🏻🖤🤘🏻

Later a friend told me when I left their house one night that everytime him & his wife passed each other they mimicked it everytime & their 2yr old gson would follow ah ah lol. You guys rock. Get Down with the Sickness was the 1st song I heard yall did. I was like omg hell yeah! A fan for life!! If a Local band played your song oh lawdy I would sing it loud and be in my own world & more than once lead singers come put the mic in face, and we finish the song together. @HighStakesDanny the sickness got 5x platinum, singles fron every album have made top 10 of mainstream rock charts. They have 3 Grammy nominations. I would put that almost solely on David . Their drummer is average as are the guitar and bass players they wouldn't even have the success they do if they had an average vocalist. Every person I know who has heard disturbed has never said a word about anything other than the vocals. Best way I can agree he is underrated is because metal isn't a popular genre and isn't mainstream.

That's why David is one of the best musicians. That primal "OH-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah" makes Down With The Sickness what it is. An amazing peace of music which will be played for decades.
Its more like the cherry on the top of a sundae. Sure it is an impactful piece, but really it was the intro that made the "OH-AH-AH-AH-AH" what it is and David even says this. The song would have been pretty awesome regardless but this just made it that much better.

Metal is about being free and primal. It's not about gatekeeping and being a douch.
It is in large part but just like some musicians use complicated and difficult playing to cover up their lack of musicality (something to say) some use this as an excuse to not progress and do interesting things with sound aka. Music.
Music is not entirely about feelings. If it were we wouldn't even have it. Music is a form of communication and unless a person is an overly emotional wreck they don't communicate their feelings with every gesture or word. There is a place for interesting ideas and even pushing the physical boundaries of instruments. Furthermore, there is a such thing as complex feelings.
Music for the sake of "feelings" is just as boring as music for the sake of complexity. There needs to be a balance. Something else to consider here is that what is complicated to you is not necessarily complicated to someone else. There is absolutely beauty in simplicity and sometimes that's the hardest to pull off but that speaks to the beauty in "complexity" more than in simplicity.
Last but NOT least; "fast" is not complexity. These are my opinions, of course.
Beartooth has a lot of feeling because of how deep Caleb emotionally gets into his music.
And this is how you make music. Primal fun and organic play. No Egos or drive to be the new thing.

Honestly ANYONE that knows the song knows it by Mike's drum intro more than the famous scream by David. The Sickness is easily my favorite album released in '99, even though, Korn, Incubus, H.I.M, and Metallica all had good or great albums that came out the same year.

My oldest daughter's first "words" you could say. She was raised on rock music since the womb! We had house parties and attended concerts regularly pre-pregnancy. We continued to do so, mom just had to stop partaking in alcoholic beverages while expecting. So my daughter was used to loud music since the womb. After I gave birth and while she was an infant we were new parents and therefore kind of home bound. We still had house parties and when she would get fussy we would turn the music up. At the turn of the century when she was born we listened to a lot of Disturbed, Korn, STP, and Godsmack. The music would comfort her and help put her in a rhythm in her baby swing to help her self soothe. Around 6-7 months she squealed out the "Ah Ah Ah Ah" phrase at almost the same time it happens in song!
EVERY TIME I hear that song it reminds me of her in the early days. She is now 21 and we have seen Disturbed together 3 or 4x. We told our story while in line waiting for a concert in Richmond, VA and one of their roadies took us backstage to interview us for a future documentary. That concert was about 4 years ago don't know if we made the cut for the documentary but it was an awesome experience and we were ended up front row right up against the stage for doing so!🤘🏻🖤🤘🏻
