I trust Daemon more than Otto. At least with Daemon, he’s honest about his thoughts and feelings no matter how callous he delivers it. With Otto, he’ll smile at you then stab you on your back the next second, and he’ll probably twist the knife, too, just to make you suffer more.
Well, "honest" except for that time that Daemon straight-up lied about his wife being pregnant with a son, just to get a rise out of his brother. And that time he lied about rejoicing in the death of the "Heir for a Day" in an effort to avoid blowback from his brother. I totally agree that Otto is less trustworthy overall, but let's not forget just how slippery Daemon can be if he thinks it'll help himself.
@@dlweiss He probably did all that so that Viserys will come and talk to him personally, but Otto prevented that from happening. Otto was trying to instigate Daemon into bloodshed so that he has a reason to tell the King that his brother declared war against them. He wants to get rid of Daemon because he knows Daemon sees him for what he truly is. Good thing Rhaenyra prevented bloodshed from happening. And I don’t think he lied about the “heir for a day” thing, he neither confirmed nor deny it. And I do agree that Daemon is slippery, but he does not keep it hidden. Otto on the other hand, is making slippery moves behind the King’s back.
Don't forget that by proposing Rhaenyra marry Aegon, Otto is not only preventing other houses getting a powerful match, but he is also boosting his own house - Aegon is Otto's grandson, he's half Hightower, and he's ensuring that Aegon would be at least king consort if not king in his own right. One of Otto's decedents would end up on the throne whether that's Aegon himself or Aegon and Rhaenyra's child.
Well the velaryons are not happy and even daemon itself and the dance will never happen... yeah i kinda like that but we don't see this show if that's the scenario...
@@BelleBlack1 It could potentially help with that problem but it's not guaranteed. It's usually regarded that there is the ruler (the one with royal blood) and the ruler's partner, they are not usually on equal footing. As for the Targaryens incest complicates who has the royal authority. King Jaehaerys ruled together with his sister wife pretty well, but there were certainly times they disagreed and Jaehaerys flexed his position of the true ruler to overrule her. So Aegon and Rhaenyra could choose to co-rule but there is no precedence for true equality in power. If they both felt entitled to absolute authority then marrying them together could actually increase the chances of conflict between them. It would definitely fix the issue the following generation though because their child would be both of their heir.
It was a good solution to the present problems. It was, by all accounts, a fair play from his position. But as with the previous move by Valeryon, Viserys don't give a shit.
True, but you would have to wait really long for him to become sexually mature and by then Rhaenyra would be too old from a biological standpoint for giving birth.
28:48 The letter asking for aid wasn't sent by Daemon so of course he would say he didn't ask for aid, because he didn't. It was Corlys' brother who asked for help.
Yeah I was coming to make the distinction between _Vaemon_ and _Daemon_ lol Which maybe they caught it when Corlys says to his brother “Vaemon, I will not let you stoke mutiny” and it just got cut in editing, idk 🤷🏻♀️😅
It's interesting how much influence Alicent has over Viserys. He took her advice on Rhaenyra's marriage and on committing to get rid of the Crabfeeder.
Queen Alicent Hightower is definitely giving me Queen Margaery Tyrell vibes. Which makes since because they technically share a bloodline later on. But as of now, it seems as though Alicent does really care about Rhaenyra because she’s still defending her a little and also wants her to wed someone on her own accord instead of forcing it. I don’t know yet but I get the feeling that Alicent has a couple of ambitions in her maybe. Even though she is taking orders from her father, I believe that apart of her always wanted to become the Queen from the beginning. Look at how much she has gained from the marriage as of now. She has a 2 year old son and another child on the way. And she also has the ear of Viserys, just like how Margaery had ears of Joffrey and Tommen. It’s making me like Alicent’s character a lot so far.
Love the detail when Daemon is shot in the opening action scene. Caraxes screams out as if he was struck as well. There's always been theories that Targaryen's are connected to their Dragons in the same way that Wargs in the North connect with Direwolves and Birds.
They are connected but it’s more of a passive sixth sense than what we see Bran do. The dragons know when their riders are in trouble or if they die. I assume they can sense what their rider wants when they’re riding, like directions and other commands. We get some of that from Dany’s pov in the books.
@@CharlesZane_ bran has also been trained by one of the strongest wargs/telepaths ever, and is himself the strongest warg/telepath we ever encounter. And Targaryens can do stuff like call to their dragons from tens/hundreds of miles away. I’d be surprised if the power is any different, we already have evidence of what Stark telepathic bonds look like, and wolves/dragons are paralleled in the story. Also in the books we get a bunch of other telepathic ppl like the Children, Warlocks of Qarth, glass candles (like Quaithe and Marwyn/Sarella), and likely Euron’s crew/the stone men of the Sorrows. Given all that it seems more likely that Targaryens are just weaker or less trained with their powers
I think it was a bit much on the nose with the stag showing to her to be like - yes Queen. Too much Disney princess vibe there. Other than that small nitpick the episode was great. All the plotting , the battle , the father daughter problem being resolved for the moment.
@@МихаилРадулов-й4т But if that stag did that to his son you'd be like "alpha ultra-chad deigned by the gods, destined conqueror and big-dick super-king!" lol
@@richardthecowardlylion5289 but it didn’t. The whole point was that everyone around them was saying that the sighting of the white hart was a sign from the gods that aegon is meant to be king, and then at the end they never actually find it. It’s not the sign everyone was going nuts over- but that same sign appears quietly to rhaenyra because she is MEANT to be queen. That’s the rightful succession, and the gods know it.
The king is very superstitious, so when he heard that the White stag had showed up during his celebration for his sons nameday it made him question naming Rhaenera as his heir. You can see his releif when it was just a regular Buck, which tells him that he hadn't made a mistake.
Sir Cristen was 100% right when he said the people of the realm will be forced to accept her as Queen... but Rhaenyra walking in like a G toting that boar was HUGE. Now, some people will want to follow her if she starts doing Boss type things.
Taking other people's kills??? That thing put Sir Cristen on his ass quick... She didn't run away screaming like a coward... she fought it off like a G, then finished it like a savage. That's as much her kill as it Cristens
The scene where Rhaenyra is sitting by the tree and telling her musician to keep playing the same song is like she’s repeating the same song in her playlist 🙃
House Velaryon doesnt have dragons of its own but because Raenys was born into House Targaryen her kids get their own dragons which is why there are 2 dragons in that war/battle.
He's super pissed off lmao. I love how he wents full suicidal mission after his brother wanted to help him, he's like "nah I rather die than accept your help" lmao. I love Daemon.
That second dragon, like grey-ish in color, is Seasmoke; Laenor Velaryon's dragon, it is much much smaller than Caraxes since he is quite young, but quite fast and as you can see, effective... And perhaps more importantly, separating him for the other young dragons around, he is getting battle experience in all of this... There could be a third dragon in this conflict; the "Queen who never was", Rhaenys, Corlys' wife, has a beautiful and large dragon called Meleys; nothing much is really said about other dragons fighting in the war of the Stepstones apart from Caraxes, so it is interesting that they included Seasmoke but not Meleys... Perhaps they are trying to make a point about the personality of Meleys as a dragon or something regarding Rhaenys
@@SomeUserk Not really... The information about Rhaenys being a dragon rider and her dragon isn't relevant to the overall arc of the show, or plot... It's just a fact, lore, like the show mentioning that they have 10 adult dragons, or the showrunners said that we will get to see the 17 dragons... I didn't mentioned any future storylines, plot points, battles or anything... Just the fact that she also, as a member of house Velaryon, has a dragon
Laenor is definetly intriguing character that needs to be more fleshed out compared to the book! Same as his sister Laena. Can't wait for more Velaryons in the future eps!
Agreed! They got glossed over a lot in the book (which makes sense in a historical narrative) so actually seeing their characters will be fun! There's that feast in the trailer that I'm pretty excited about
Daemon is not taking help from his brother he will prove is own worth to the people,he has become one of my favourite. 😉 Love the fact Daemon went on his own than other man showed up and supported him for his determination.
Laenors dragon is called Sea Smoke.. its actually a really freakin cool name when you think about his House and his being part Targaryen.. it honors both
It had a mop head on it. Like wtf was that. Viscerys is the laziest hunter ever, he comes in for the kill. I LOVE the fact it wasn’t white, and eventually showed itself to Rhaenyra.
Daemon was like "I've been fighting for 2 years and you did nothing, and now because I'm losing you help? This is my war and I'll finish it myself, I don't need to be rescued. I'm still capable and I'll prove it."
I just noticed the parallel between Rhaenyra covered on the boar's blood and Daemon covered on the Crabfeeder's blood. Both of them also ignored the king's order and went to solve a problem in person (he in this episode; she when she went to get the dragon egg).
What I find sad about Viserys: he does show some strength when it comes to his personal life and managing his family. Exiles Daemon when he goes too far, goes against ancient laws and customs (and pretty much everyone) to keep his daughter as heir, goes against advisable yet distasteful political marriage and doesn't really get influenced by advisors, as any "typical weak king" would. Yet where it comes to actually ruling the 7 kingdoms, he shows weakness, inaction and indecisiveness.
One of his few questionable decisions in his personal life is that he decided to marry his daughter's best friend of age 15 lmao aside from that, he's a good man and I wish he is better at being king.
Nikki crying to the stag’s death takes me back to how much she cried when John Wick’s dog was killed in their reaction to the first John Wick film. Ever since, I’ve noticed how uncomfortable she gets whenever an animal is hurt in shows or movies. Such a pure soul. Bless her heart.
Yes, Nikki is very sensitive about animals and can't stand watching animals getting hurt. The second I saw that stag all roped up I immediately knew she'd be heartbroken with that scene.
Can we talk about the SYMOLISM in this episode for a sec - so powerful ! The white stag represents nobility and a god-like figure, and hunting it down depicts the power of the house over the creature. The fact that they could not hunt it down, shows how Aegon is not the chosen heir, but rather Rhaenyra as the stag visits her itself. The eye contact between them two - it is clear how she is the one. Also, relating to the stag, the fact that Viserys could not kill it with one stab. House baratheon, sigil of a stag, is the house that almost abolished house targaryen - this could foreshadow upcoming events and the shattering of their house.
Well also Viserys is still very ill, he lost two fingers and is still severing from something, so he was very winded when he had to stab the stag. Also, if you look at the symbology between him and the stag. Viserys feel very on edge, feeling pulled in many directions and you have the stag, being hunted, circled, tied up. Viserys saw himself in the stag.
Viserys is one of those examples of "Here's why kings need to be assholes". Obviously he has done some straight up foolish decisions but most of his problems come from the fact that he doesnt make decisions as a king but as a father and person. He doesnt understand that he doesnt really get to do that, especially when the kingdom isnt safe.
The fact that I can see the episode, then go to bed frustrated because I can't see another episode that my soul needs, and then, I wake up and see you just uploaded the NEW reaction gives me peace!!! Love you guys.
Ottos idea is to have Rhaenyra marry baby Aegon, it would wait until he is much older ofc but they would still be pledged now when he is just two years old. That would potentially merge both of their opposing claims and prevent conflict when Viserys dies, as they would rule as a couple then and it would not really matter who was heir before. That is the only way that they could, as you suggested, both be Queen and King at the same time. But Ottos plan is also to potentially prevent Rhaenyra to marry someone else and perhaps find a strong consort and allies to strengthen her own position. Otto is conniving but smart.
That is one brilliant mf... ppl say he is Littlefinger.. but he is really a combination of Little finger and Varys... he has some "honor" about him, wanting to keep the realm in peace time, but of course one where he is in a more advantageous position of course.
@@harsh_1910 it is very odd to me given the people making these kinds of comments (I mean generally, not just these reactors) watched tons of political marriages and marriage discussion in GoT.
@@Phizzo4real yeees absolutely! I also see more then a bit of Tywin Lannister in him, less hard and commanding perhaps, but just as proud and obsessed with his family position and legacy.
Daemon would die then ask for help- (the letter wasn’t from him) and that’s right, he literally went on a suicide run. And he went alone without telling anyone, he really went “fck your aid.” Legendary status the guy cut down basically 20 men alone….. he was do or die 👏🏼 and he didn’t say a word the entire time, that alone shows that he’s proving his worth not talking his mouth off- no matter what daemon is one of the best characters in the GoT universe 🔥 amazing sequence as well. * also the fact that both Rhaenyra and Daemon emerge covered in blood post their fight… everyone grew this episode
If you notice, when King Viserys is talking to Alicent back at King's Landing without his gloves on, his pinkie and ring finger have been amputated off on his left hand but it looks like the rot is still spreading on his hand.
44:44 Alicent's son would be Aegon II if he became king, but he doesn't get that "II" unless he becomes ruler. There have been three other people named Aegon between Aegon I (the Conqueror) and Alicent's Aegon - Viserys had an uncle and a great uncle called Aegon, and a brother called Aegon who died as an infant. It's a popular name but they don't all get a number after their name, only if they ascend the throne. The maester at the Wall in GoT is called Aemon, another popular name (Rhaenys' father was called Aemon).
A lot of people seem to be surprised that Daemon and Corlys where losing the war. Here's the situation as far as I understood it: At some point during the war The Crabfeeder formed a triumvirate (a trearchy with two other lords/leaders). That's why there's a few distinct styles of soldiers in Crabfeeders army. For instance his archers, I bet the guy giving orders to the archers was one of the triumvirate. Then the Crabfeeder and his army dug themselves into a vast cave making the Dragons and the Sea Snakes fleet pretty useless. The only way to win the war was with footman, and Daemon was way too proud to ask his brother for aid. It's also implied that Crabfeeder was being funded and supplied by the Free Cities while Daemon and Corlys weren't even receiving help from the throne. So it makes sense why it wasn't going well for them.
I think you're pretty spot on, I only think the Triumvirate was the Free Cities. They mention it in Episode 1 iirc, that it's the Triarchy (Lys, Myr & Tyrosh) who are supporting Crab Feeder.
They're also basically just doing what the Dornish did for years, which led to them being the only part of the 7 Kingdoms not to be taken over by the Targaryens, when the rest of Westeros was a relative cake walk. Aegon the Conqueror couldn't win this type of war even with his sisters, Balerion the Black Dread and 2 other massive dragons. It's no surprise at all that it was a difficult war
The crabfeeder is a nobody. He was a pawn of the Triarchy to do their bidding. In the book, he dies in the 2nd year, and the war of the Stepstones lasts forever 7 more years. It's like 5 paragraphs in the book. It's simply there to show the discord in house targaryen ahs to elevate Daemon. Also, they are using the same tactic Dorne used to resist the dragons and targaryens, as the other poster said.
When Rhaenyra walked in all bloodied up with Cristen and the boar. You could see the respect she earned from all the lords. What a badass walk in. And Daemon, what a god.
Viserys disease or infection in his hand has spread and he’s lost 2 of his fingers. His body is rotting away along with his patience. Good metaphor and physical representation of the throne eating the king alive because he does not belong there
@@theConquerersMama yea it’s from when he cut himself on the throne. I thought tetanus caused things like lockjaw and spasms. I am not sure that this causes skin eating flesh or wounds not healing. Besides the impacted area is not the only issue, it spread from one finger to the other, will he eventually lose the entire hand? Arm? It doesn’t seem like the maesters know what is going on. I think this is a disease unique to viserys; everything is breaking down his mind, physical strength and even his body. I don’t think this disease gets a name, I think the show directors are using as a metaphor for how the throne is literally eating him away.
It's obviously a form of Leprosy. Viserys is actually a pretty good king, much like his predecessor, he's kept the peace for over a decade. He's not cruel, or demented, or overly ambitious. While the Stepstones have been a problem, they haven't been a "consuming the 7 kingdoms conflagration that results in the extinction of numerous houses not to mention the deaths of thousands upon thousands of the small folk." He definitely belongs there.
Some interesting details that I gathered from watching this episode with you guys again: 1. The young Lannister's courtship with Rhaenyra is not really "a good try", because if they were to marry, it was expected that he should join her court in Kingslanding, not the other way around. The Lannister just completely disregarded Rhaenyra's claim to the throne, and that could be considered downright treasonous. 2. Steven actually catches Ser Cristen Cole's reaction when Rhaenyra questioned him at the campfire. It is the perfect opportunity for him to secure his position as the future Queen's confidant, if he answered that question to Rhaenyra's liking. But even in this situation he did not like to admit Rhaenyra has a strong claim to the throne. Thats some strong foreshadowing. 3. It is a Lannister spear that dealt the killing blow to the stag. But the real "Regal Stag" was free elsewhere. 4. Rhaenyra, the true dragon blood she was, overpowered a boar and survived the encounter, unlike some "unworthy usurper".
On point 4 i like that she managed to finnaly kill it after Cole drove a sword in it , i would of hated it if she magicaly beated a boar in 1v1 when seeing a male soldier being tossed like a rag doll. She held her own thats for sure but she still needed help which is realistic and a clear point in any Game of Thrones shows - you cant do everything alone you need people on your side.
@@МихаилРадулов-й4т It's funny how when women are involved people have to analyze if what happened in a scene is "realistic" enough to be taken seriously.
Viserys' conversation with Jason Lannister is very telling. The king might be naive, but he is not stupid, he knows that by marrying Alicent he opened a very dangerous door. It is risky for a king to have two heirs. He could see a possible division in his house, but he was not strong, or decisive, enough to come up with a plan to deal with it.
The Crab King has a larger army and they are hiding in the caves where the dragon cannot get to them at. It is becoming a war of attrition, which favors the Crab King, or whatever he is called.
Thanks for making this point, which l think was missed during the show, dragons are nearly unstoppable but they can't burn what they can't reach and the Crab-feeder knew this.
I'm happy Daemon is getting the recognition he deserved from the fan's for being one of the best characters from ASOIAF. Ofc I might be biased because the rogue prince have always been one of my favorites, but now when ppl mention Dany, Rhagor, or Jon we can start to see Daemon name pop up as will. Hopefully there's a Blackfyre spinoff in the future so that another Daemon can be introduce to the fan's.
Daemon Blackfyre is easily one of the best Targaeryn's ever. My list for the most badass Targaeryns currently stand as: 1. Aegon the Conqueror 2. Daemon Targaeryn 3. Aegon The Unlikely 4. Daemon Blackfyre 5. Aegon the Young Dragon Honorable mention: Rhaegar Targaeryn, Aemon the Dragonknight
@@voiceofraisin3778 I mean, neither did Daemon (both of them) or Young Dragon. Egg fought in battles when he was in teens and grew up king in a kingdom stirring with revolts. He stabilised the Iron Throne after all the shit that went down after the death of Daeron the Good. His obsession with dragons aside, he was a pretty solid warrior, king, and dude.
It should be noted that the Crabfeeder and his men weren't just common pirates. They had the backing of the Triarchy which consisted of the Free Cities of Lys, Myr and Tyrosh.
I love love loooooove Laenor's and Seasmoke's entrance on that battlefield. The way Laenor was screaming "dracarys" and hooping on dragonback got me so giddy lol. And of course, our petty king, Daemon himself would rather put his life on harm's way than let his big brother take any credit. The rogue prince is always here for the chaos and for the drama and I support it 😂😂
Daemon might be the best antihero on tv for a while. He is Badass!!! Also clearly the show’s acronym Hot D clearly refers to daemon. Also is it me or are all of daemon’s Armor’s inspired by dark souls dragon armors and look absolutely incredible!
We're definitely seeing what a weak king Viserys is, despite his good intentions. If he's truly committed to Rhaenyra as his heir, he needs to reaffirm it in an official declaration. I thought he was going to do that after the Lannister dude told him that everyone assumed Aegon was his new heir. Instead he's privately assuring Rhaenyra she won't be replaced, while the rest of the kingdom takes it as a given that she will be. He's setting the kingdom up for a succession crisis.
Otto's hidden motive for trying to betroth Rhaenyra to Aegon is that he knows the king will never name Aegon as his heir over Rhaenyra so to bypass that he's trying to have them marry. The result would be Aegon as ruling king and Rhaenyra as his queen. Otto is desperately trying all he can to lessen Rhaenyra's claim.
I love how the 12 year old was too young for the King but the 2 year old is not too young for the future queen. Great reaction again, guys. Glad to watch this right along with you this time
Otto's plan to betroth the 2 year old to Rhaenyra is actually super smart from his perspective. It takes Rhaenyra off the board as she will not be able to have children for around 13 to 15 years while Aegon grows up. That effectively makes Aegon second in line to the throne, and so many things can happen to Rhaenyra in that time period. An unfortunate fall to her death and Otto's grandson now sits on the iron throne, with Otto pulling the strings behind the scenes.
Otto has had it in for Rhaenyra ever since the incident at Dragonstone why do you all think he's being this insistent? She embarrassed him and he hasn't forgotten and wants to get rid of her.
Leanor’s dragon, Seasmoke, looking like Dany’s dragons made me burst to tears. I wasn’t expecting to see other dragons to have the same design as Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion 😩
@@dillonmartin7411 yes Dreamfyre I believe it was just a lover of a targaryen? She took 3 eggs to essos I can't remember it all, but yes we have dragon family lines now to trace back seasmoke's sick soul patch to danys dragons
Otto Hightower is a very interesting character. He reminds me of Tywin Lannister actually because his actions and ideas are definitely something Tywin would do. In fact Tywin already has done some of those things Otto has already been doing. Marrying Alicent to Viserys, the king is exactly why Tywin did regarding Robert Baratheon and his daughter Cersei after Robert’s rebellion. I don’t trust Otto at all because he can stab you at the back the first chance he gets but he is becoming a great game player in the game of thrones.
I've officially been watching these reactions for so long that whenever I watch any show with violence/death involving animals, even ones Nicki and Steven aren't reacting to, I get worried for Nikki and stress about it, I was super stressed when I watched the stag scene bc I just kept worrying about Nikki. Rest assured, Nikki, your compassion is contagious ❤
I love your guys reactions!! I noticed you guys thought Viserys lied to his daughter when he said Daemon didnt ask for aid. He honestly didnt. It was Lord Coryls's Brother Vaemund who sent the letter to the king. Like Viserys said, Daemon would've been to proud and died fighting before asking for reinforcements from his brother.
He's not Daemon, he's DAYM!-on. I feel bad when Rhaenyra said "Yes, My queen?". You can feel the rejection in her tone. And when the white stag showed up... YOU KNOW WHO SHOULD RULE.👑
Why didn't the King just cancel the damn party. Even he was like, "why am I killing a defenseless, restrained deer. This is stupid". Being King would suck unless you just didn't give a crap what anybody thought.
Because clearly Viserys is weak minded and a people pleaser, as he admits so to Alicent. He wouldn't have the guts to cancel the party exactly because it would piss the lords off.
I said to my husband during the stag scene, “Nicki is not going to be on!” That was hard to watch. Hated Daemon the first episode, but loving him now!!! I have a theory in where this is going to go (I didn’t read the books) so cannot wait for next week.
OH Nikki you are just so awesome!! I yelled "Lannister" too!!! You two are such a joy to watch - I actually went back and binged the entire GoT series reactions you did. I cried, yelled, cried again, screamed, cried a bit more, hollered, cried a lot along with you. Thanks for your amazing authentic reactions to everything!
From what I understood...the Sea Snake's brother sent the word back to the King for aid without Daemon's knowledge, which is why Daemon was so pissed with the messenger (message).
When the guy was telling the King to keep her betrothal "closer to home".. Who else thought of Jamie singing in that GoT & Coldplay video? 😂 "Closer to home...closer to home.. A family tree..with a branch of our own.."
*My* *Favorite* *HOT* *D* *Characters* *So* *Far* 1. Daemon 🖤 (he's winning by 31 lengths) 2. Corlys 🖤 (Daemon's biggest supporter) 3. Rhaenyra 🖤 (still my fav girl in this series) 4. Viserys (Paddy and Milly with the best acting) 5. Otto 💚 (swapped positions with Viserys) 6. Alicent 💚 7. Rhaenys 🖤 8. Laenor 🖤 9. Criston 💚 10. Laena 🖤 These are my updated weekly rankings. I don't see anybody catching Daemon at #1. He's like Top Gun: Maverick. I don't think we'll see a better movie than that one for the rest of the year. The big movers this week have been Corlys and Alicent. I really like Corlys the more episodes we see of him. For him to defend Daemon against his own brother showed some real loyalty. Laenor insulted his own uncle right in front of his father. Master of Complaints. Maybe Alicent isn't that evil? That the only reason she's in this situation is because of her pimp daddy? I'm not sensing she wants her children to have the throne. She was supporting Rhaenyra to be Queen which surprised me. I liked seeing a little more character development from Criston. It seems Rhaenyra is the one slowly turning into the dark side. Did you see how she killed that wild boar 🐗? She went to town with it like her uncle did at the Step Stones. Basically got hair dyed red from the boar's blood stains. Laenor is a new addition to my top 10. Had to move his sister down to 10th since we've only seen her for like 2 minutes so far. But Laena will eventually move up once we start seeing older versions of her. House Valeryon is quickly becoming one of my favorite houses in this series. Props to Paddy Considine and Milly Alcock. While Matt Smith's Daemon has been awesome, Paddy and Milly have really carried this series with their performances. No wonder Paddy gets first billing in the intro. Both have had the most screen time so far over Matt and Rhys. No matter how we weak might think of Viserys, Paddy has been fantastic in all 3 episodes. So many layers to his character the writers added. And Emma D'Arcy better bring her A-game by mid-season because Milly is crushing it.
Daemon wasn't the one who sent the letter asking for aid. He wanted to do this himself. Which is why the following battle happens soon after, before aid can arrive.
Daemon might be a complicated character but we've seen him more as a charismatic bad*ss in this show. I think this series is showing more about how complex Viserys, Rhaenyra, and Alicent really are. I really enjoyed that scene between Alicent and her father. We finally got to hear what's really her inner thoughts and feelings. I believe Alicent will be just as complex as Rhaenyra as the series progresses. Because I actually think she has a good heart. I believe Alicent really does love Viserys and still cares about Rhaenyra. But then she wants to also please her father. It's a tough balancing act for her while still being a mother and loving and supporting her children. It's really a terrific show so far. I thought maybe the battle scene at the end would piss off book fans who preferred earlier seasons of GOT that was slow-burning and thought it got too Hollywood blockbuster by S4. But I guess not because they seem to love it. Didn't bother them. One of the greatest shows I have ever seen with character development was Mad Men. I think HOT D is reaching Mad Men's level. For me, the dragon scenes are cool but I'd rather have great character development and this series has at least 4 characters with so many layers. I don't mind the quieter scenes like Rhaenyra talking to her father or Criston or Alicent talking to Viserys or her father. Those are the scenes that makes GOT/HOT D great. The dragons and battle scenes are the superficial stuff.
@@joshheirmann7455 the show kinda forgot about him. In episode 1x9, the episode where Jon learns who Aemon was, Aemon describes “my brother’s son, and his son, and the children”, missing a generation between Aegon V and Rhaegar’s kids.

@@HeIsLiterallyMe_ Yeah. I forgot that in the show they wiped out Jaehaerys II. But i heard that George wants him in the show canon. So if we get a Robert's Rebellion prequel, they would include him in the family tree. Making Aegon V the grandfather of Aerys. And great great grandfather of Jon.
Did y’all notice the actor who played Lord Jason and Ser Tyland Lannister is the same guy who was Ser Hugh, the Vale knight that The Mountain killed in season 1, the same the Ned wanted to question, as he was Jon Arryn’s squire?
Rhaenyra is badass, I love her! So many good things that happened already in this show and I feel like they've done brilliant so far with the build up! Excited for 1x4! Edit: I love it how the Starks still seem to be the only ones with honour and can be trusted apparently haha!
Knowing the history of the Starks, it’s really only Ned that upheld that honourable demeanour which influenced his kids. That’s probably because he was raised by Jon Arryn. Rickard and Brandon were quite hotheaded, the same as Lyanna who started the whole rebellion because she ran away with Rheagar. The current Stark now, Cregan, will appear later in the show and get shit done, though.
When the guy asked for help from Daemon but instead got crushed by the dragon in the beginning of the episode, it reminded me of a scene with Homelander and another hero in s3
there will be a few more time jumps reason being. they want the audience to get all the backstory and build up that essentially leads to the real conflict. there doing a good job of not leaving anything out so far
Did you all notice King Visery's pinky finger and ring fingers are cut off? He had his gloves on through the whole episodes until he was in his bed cambers talking to the queen.
I was also wondering why when he killed the stag, those fingers on his hand were still up in the air (I was thinking the gloves were only masking one rotting finger). Good observation
Daemon and Rhaenyra are kinda similar tho. They are true badasses. I love watching them and as a person whom didnt read the book Im really wondering what will happen next between Rhaenyra and Alicent. I know they are related but their strategies and games are related too:) The development is so good bro and Im here for it!
I'm sure that somebody else has already explained this to you two. But the pirates have survived three years against the Targaeryen Dragons, by using the same exact tactic against the dragons that the Dornish used, when Aegon I tried to subjugate them: Hide in a cave, use aerial artillery (arrows and ballista bolts) to keep the dragons at bay, and surround the king's army with savvy guerilla fighters. Daemon's solution was to basically lure them out, by standing alone, pretending to surrender, and then convincing them that he was only doing it for himself, instead of with an army, and dragons, at his beck and call. And the pirates, naturally, fell for this, because pirates are not known for being smart war fighters.
It was traditional (even in our own world) for the King to strike the killing blow in a Royal hunt... The King’s men would often trap the animal first. It was a ceremonial thing. You could tell Viserys wasn’t into it though.
Daemons sword is Dark Sister! The same one wielded by Visenya, Aegon the Conqueror's sister wife. And the same sword Arya talks about it in the original show :) The pummel is a dragon egg!! (If nobody mentioned it yet anyway!)

I trust Daemon more than Otto. At least with Daemon, he’s honest about his thoughts and feelings no matter how callous he delivers it. With Otto, he’ll smile at you then stab you on your back the next second, and he’ll probably twist the knife, too, just to make you suffer more.
True
Well, "honest" except for that time that Daemon straight-up lied about his wife being pregnant with a son, just to get a rise out of his brother. And that time he lied about rejoicing in the death of the "Heir for a Day" in an effort to avoid blowback from his brother. I totally agree that Otto is less trustworthy overall, but let's not forget just how slippery Daemon can be if he thinks it'll help himself.
Otto hasn’t done anything like that yet
Yeah, Otto is clearly trying to make straight up Tywin Lannister moves.
It also kills the issue of who is the true heir, because they would BOTH be on the throne at the same time.
Yeah I was coming to make the distinction between _Vaemon_ and _Daemon_ lol

@@Murder_34 i think thru marriage
It's interesting how much influence Alicent has over Viserys. He took her advice on Rhaenyra's marriage and on committing to get rid of the Crabfeeder.
Viserys is weak like Daemon said...
Weak indeed and women sometimes have a powerful hold over men. Must be good lol
He thinks he can take her advice like he did his first wife. I don't see it ending well.
I don't much about her, but she gives me bad vibes.
And trees. And humans. Wargs can connect with any living creature
I also picked up on that
The Stark children also had a magical connection with their direwolves where they could see through their eyes.
I love the symbolism of that white stag showing up for Rhaenyra and not for Viserys (and his son('s nameday))

Other than that small nitpick the episode was great.

The king is very superstitious, so when he heard that the White stag had showed up during his celebration for his sons nameday it made him question naming Rhaenera as his heir. You can see his releif when it was just a regular Buck, which tells him that he hadn't made a mistake.

Daemon never asked for help, The valeryon brother did. Important distinction. The King was being 100 percent truthful to Raeynera.
Viserys referring to Lord Jason’s gift as “quite a thing” was some underrated humor right there. Paddy Considine is killing it as Viserys.
the whole hunt was hilarious with absurdity tbh
It had a mop head on it. Like wtf was that. Viscerys is the laziest hunter ever, he comes in for the kill. I LOVE the fact it wasn’t white, and eventually showed itself to Rhaenyra.
Daemon was like "I've been fighting for 2 years and you did nothing, and now because I'm losing you help? This is my war and I'll finish it myself, I don't need to be rescued. I'm still capable and I'll prove it."
I just noticed the parallel between Rhaenyra covered on the boar's blood and Daemon covered on the Crabfeeder's blood. Both of them also ignored the king's order and went to solve a problem in person (he in this episode; she when she went to get the dragon egg).
also, Jon Snow is their descendant...same image after the Battle of Bastards and he also took matters in his own hands and killed Daenerys..

Ikr people don't understand the meaning of betrothal

If you notice, when King Viserys is talking to Alicent back at King's Landing without his gloves on, his pinkie and ring finger have been amputated off on his left hand but it looks like the rot is still spreading on his hand.
I know they say stress, but I wonder if he has diabetes. Wounds to the extremities that refuse to heal and only fester.
I noticed that too
44:44 Alicent's son would be Aegon II if he became king, but he doesn't get that "II" unless he becomes ruler.
Here's the situation as far as I understood it:
At some point during the war The Crabfeeder formed a triumvirate (a trearchy with two other lords/leaders).
@@TinaOe oh you are probably 100% correct.
Exactly

Good metaphor and physical representation of the throne eating the king alive because he does not belong there
Is it from where he cut himself on the throne?
No tetanus shots then.

Right?! Hahaha. Drahar knew better!
Some interesting details that I gathered from watching this episode with you guys again:
Robert needed her nearby lol
On point 4 i like that she managed to finnaly kill it after Cole drove a sword in it , i would of hated it if she magicaly beated a boar in 1v1 when seeing a male soldier being tossed like a rag doll.

Which is not unlike how Dorne was able to resist being conquered by Aegon the Conqueror, and Dorne is relatively nearby there.
That Daemon is arguably even more badass than this one.
Daemon Blackfyre is easily one of the best Targaeryn's ever.
My list for the most badass Targaeryns currently stand as:
1. Aegon the Conqueror
2. Daemon Targaeryn
3. Aegon The Unlikely
4. Daemon Blackfyre
5. Aegon the Young Dragon
Honorable mention: Rhaegar Targaeryn, Aemon the Dragonknight
@@scientia.veritas Bloodraven has read your list and is slightly amused.
Also egg at 3? Didnt exactly end his reign on a hight point?
@@voiceofraisin3778 I mean, neither did Daemon (both of them) or Young Dragon.
Egg fought in battles when he was in teens and grew up king in a kingdom stirring with revolts. He stabilised the Iron Throne after all the shit that went down after the death of Daeron the Good. His obsession with dragons aside, he was a pretty solid warrior, king, and dude.
Chad Daemon Blackfyre and the virgin Daeron Targaryen
Shout out to Jefferson Hall, who played Torstein on Vikings. He portrayed the Lannister twins wonderfully in this episode.
Daemon is seriously the most interesting character remember the term “second” sons.
I'm positive that the Crabfeeder was fully conscious when Daemon worked on extracting his entrails.
I was dissappointed in him, I wanted him to have some sort of story, we didn't even see him fight.
Glad to watch this right along with you this time
To be fair, Viserys didn't like either of these ideas.
I love how Steven started saying "Oh, b*tch" lmao ... Nikki was the one to say it all the time but it seems like it's contagious haha
That’s because that’s their brother. Seasmokes mother has long been thought to be danys dragons mother but it’s not official yet.
@@dillonmartin7411 Its not official but its so heavily hinted that its pretty much canon
@@dillonmartin7411 yes Dreamfyre I believe it was just a lover of a targaryen? She took 3 eggs to essos I can't remember it all, but yes we have dragon family lines now to trace back seasmoke's sick soul patch to danys dragons
Seasmoke is actually Dany's dragons older brother
@@barrinoxendineh6944 That is still not proven. ATP, it's still a story that's accepted as fact by the fandom, as someone pointed out above.
Seasmoke throwing people around 😆He's tied with Caraxes as my favourite dragon
Oh is that who that was lol, wish they would have developed that a little, I didn’t even know who was riding him lol
@@Pacreincarn8ed I like the surprise, I'm excited to learn more about that dude
I can't wait until Vhagar appears too!
@@dragerdet It's Laenor Velaryon, Corlys son! He's awesome! Great character!
Lol the complete opposite of mine: Vhagar and Vermithor.
He's not Daemon, he's DAYM!-on.
I feel bad when Rhaenyra said "Yes, My queen?". You can feel the rejection in her tone.
And when the white stag showed up... YOU KNOW WHO SHOULD RULE.👑
I love how Steven says “I think ‘we’re’ going to handle this dude right now“ in reference to the crab feeder. Y’all are truly invested. I love it!
"EVEN I DO NOT EXIST ABOVE TRADITION AND DUTY"
He is weak, and knows people will judge him otherwise. You can see is that his main issue is trying to please people and he is never satisfied.
@@charlese2714 Couldn't the King or Queen change tradition & duty?
@@d3l3tes00n Viserys said no in the episode
Nikki, when I saw the scene with the stag I said out loud "he's a Baratheon" in your voice 😂
I said to my husband during the stag scene, “Nicki is not going to be on!” That was hard to watch. Hated Daemon the first episode, but loving him now!!! I have a theory in where this is going to go (I didn’t read the books) so cannot wait for next week.
the Courage of Deamon The Rogue Prince to attack alone by not using his Dragon but only his sword. damn 🔥

I have to say Matt Smith portrays Daemon perfectly.
By the way, Ubbe probably wants to join the fight too. Be the next Ghost, boy. ;)
No he has too big of an ego to accept help and also he's here to prove his worth to someone who already knows it
When the guy was telling the King to keep her betrothal "closer to home"..
Who else thought of Jamie singing in that GoT & Coldplay video? 😂
"Closer to home...closer to home..
A family tree..with a branch of our own.."
*My* *Favorite* *HOT* *D* *Characters* *So* *Far*
1. Daemon 🖤 (he's winning by 31 lengths)
2. Corlys 🖤 (Daemon's biggest supporter)
3. Rhaenyra 🖤 (still my fav girl in this series)
4. Viserys (Paddy and Milly with the best acting)
5. Otto 💚 (swapped positions with Viserys)
6. Alicent 💚
7. Rhaenys 🖤
8. Laenor 🖤
9. Criston 💚
10. Laena 🖤
These are my updated weekly rankings.
And Emma D'Arcy better bring her A-game by mid-season because Milly is crushing it.
thats my ranking too except I would put alicent below rhaenys and laenor
I can just imagine Tywin and Jason meeting in the afterlife and Tywin growling, "How, by all the gods, are we related?!"
P.S. Also, fun fact, Jason and Tyland Lannister are played by the actor who portrayed Torstein in Vikings!
This episode was just glorious!! I’m so glad to have my faith in this series rewarded!!
Rickon be like "where can I get some of that plot armor from arrows? He didnt zigzag "
Small fact check: the maester at the wall in GOT was Maester Aemon, not Aegon. Aemon was brother to Aegon V (Jon Snow’s great grandfather).
Jon Snow's great grandfather is Jaeherys II, the son of Aegon V.
@@joshheirmann7455 the show kinda forgot about him. In episode 1x9, the episode where Jon learns who Aemon was, Aemon describes “my brother’s son, and his son, and the children”, missing a generation between Aegon V and Rhaegar’s kids.
@@joshheirmann7455 maester Aemon states that Aegon V “was followed by his son Aerys, whom they called the Mad King”. Aerys being Jon’s grandfather, and Aegon his great-grandfather.
Starks? You mean the Strongs? There are no Starks right now in the show in king’s landing, they’re all still in the north
You mean the Strongs, right? Lord Lyonel Strong is amazing and shows you don't need to be a Stark to have honor and true loyalty.
@@CaptainPikeachu Yeah we'll have to wait until season 2 for Cregan Stark to appear.
@@tommyp.7108 cant wait to see the winter wolves but it will probably only be around season 2
Otto gets on my nerves and Viserys continuing to be worser as he trying to please every one. He is so indecisive and easy to manipulate. Each episode my thoughts are changing about the characters. For me the producers ve done amazing job so far, the hype is real. If they continue to do so this show will be a thing. Btw got universe is always better w you guys in it. I really love watching ur sincere reactions. You are the best and thanks for the videos
they are true Targs
As a book reader I will only say it...gets...INSANE. In all the best ways.
@@charlese2714 Just as I thought, Im thrilled to watch it! At first I loved their innocent friendship. They were like puzzles that fits each other perfectly. But then things started to heat up and that is the moment I realized something big is coming. Hightowers and Tyrells(one of my fav house) are masterclass in manipulating. I know they are related but their strategies and games are related too:) The development is so good bro and Im here for it!
So interesting to watch it from a perspective of people who haven’t read Fire & Blood! Plus, I just love you guys so much
Daemon: Over my dead body, brother! Chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarge!
Daemon never asked for help for the Stepstones. Indeed he would rather die. Viserys did not lie. It was the Velaryons who sent that letter of "plea".
Daemon didn't ask for aid.....he would never do that
the white deer is not just any deer it is like a spirit of a king as I heard once
Aegon is Otto's grandson. He still has influence if Rhenerya marries Aegon
I think why Deamon was pissed off and beat the messenger was like a “Now !!! now u send me aid “
Daemon and Rhaenyra both bloodied and badasses.
Daemon coming out at the end looking like Ric Flair after blading. WOOOOOOO
A CGI stag get's stabbed, she cries.
A man get's cut into thirds, she goes: "BITCH!".
Yeah.....
That's how everyone should react tbh..animals over ppl any day of the week😂
Matt Smith ate with his acting throughout this episode! Also note that he did have any lines. He was able to portray Daemon perfectly!!!
That was badass how Viserys hunted down that stag and killed it all by his self
Yes very badass
Daemon wields Darksister, a Valaryian steel blade. It's a magic sword and woe be onto anyone who messes with a crazy man wielding a magic sword.
