Judas Iscariot - The Twelve - Part 1 - Forgotten History

  • Judas Iscariot was the first disciple of Jesus Christ to perish, but who was he? Today, the name “Judas” is virtually synonymous for the word “traitor.” Among the disciples, Judas was the official treasurer, but he was apparently a man of dubious character even before he made his big debut as the worst person in history. Hosted by Mike Droberg. Forgotten History is a 10th Legion Pictures Production.

Unfortunately it's difficult to just have a bible discussion like we would talk about Greek mythology. Most break down to trolling, thumpers, haters. We're left trying to miss all of that and actually read constructive conversation

@robert48044 Part of that is because the men and women of the Bible were real, and the figures in Greek mythology were fictional beings based on some of the figures in the Bible.

in the life in which our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified and died for our sins, I was Judas Iscariot. recently, the Lord told me this. I am 39 years old, I am a sinful woman, who discovered God a year ago, when I found out that I am sick with diabetes, kidney failure, heart disease and many others. then, in my desperation, I prayed to God to save me, because I didn't have much left to live. I have 2 children and they were left without a mother.... The Lord heard me and saved me that day, he healed me completely, on the spot, from all my diseases.... he took them upon himself.... and me today, I live because He did this for me. since then, I hear the Lord speaking to me and I gradually learned about His love and mercy. only a few days ago, the Lord told me who I was in the life in which He died for my sins...Judas the traitor. If to me, the most cunning and wretched man on the planet, the Lord showed such mercy and love, despite what I could do, do you ever believe that He does not love you and does not care for you, which you did not . what I did???? please....think of Him, love Him for who He is, seek Him...nothing in this world compares to His love... all my life I felt that he loved me, he always helped me, but I was cold.... now I found out who I really was, and in this life I was a kind of Judas... think about his love . , you didn't do what I did...think, please...how much he loves you, if he didn't leave me, how will he leave you???

There has been a long argument for nearly 2,000 years that Judas did NOT "betray" Jesus but was following. His orders. Careful translations of early versions of the Bible have claimed Jesus said something to the effect of "one of you shall turn me in", not "betray". You would also have to ask yourself whether anyone even remotely like Jesus could have been deceived or misjudged a close friend so foolishly. Jesus knew his disciples and His crucifiction was not done without His foreknowledge and consent. He knew what was going to happen and how to accomplish it. He was nobody's fool.

Sure, and he knew Judas would betray him from the beginning, but it needed to be done for the new covenant to be accomplished. If you look at everything that is said about Judas in the bible, not just one passage, it's very clear that he was a traitor.

Judas was the most important disciple because he was the instrument to fulfill prophecy. He was ignorant of this position until he tossed the 30 pieces of silver across the floor. Interesting the number 30, the same age that Christ started his pilgrimage.
Without Judas, the prophecy would not have occurred. Christ knew his weaknesses and allowed Judas to be Judas: liar, cheat, manipulator and more. In desperation and guilt, knowing he sent his Savior to be crucified, he hung himself, committing his own crucifixion.
"The first shall be last and the last shall be first," Christ said. Judas was the 12th and after his death another was ordained, making 13. Remember, the number 13 isn't an unlucky number. And 12 plus Christ is thirteen.

One thing that we failed to see was Judas would have been forgiven if he had not killed himself. Peter did even though he denied Him. Peter was sorrowful for his actions. 😔

A crucial overlooked fact is that Judas ISH KEROTH was the only Jew aka Judean aka Jerusalemite among all the early followers. Using 'iscariot" masks his birth location in Ish Keroth, Judea, and his connection to the rulers in Jerusalem. Everyone else was Galilean and also Judahite. Judas was not an Israelite, nor were any of the Jews aka Jerusalemites. Recall Jesus always uses third person reference to "the Judeans" never including Himself, when talking to them or about them.

Good presentation. I have read all the comments to date. I would disagree that you would have to separate all religious content from the history content if it in fact the religious content ties directly into history proper. It would be the same as doing a show on the Prophet Mohammed and his writings, then using those as a conduit to explain the military expansion campaigns of Muslims using the Quran as a theological and social road map.

As we learned in school at some time, the Roman s counted by 10 due to human beings having 10 fingers. While the ancients counted by 6 and 12, zero , if it is a number , was "invented " by an Arabian culture. I suppose in modern times, we incorporated 0 to 1 through 10 for convenience reasons .
Add 1 to 6 and you get 7, a lucky number. Add 1 to 12 and you get 13, an unlucky number .why did the ancients count by 6 and 12? I suppose, probably because of the earth, sun, and the stars . Divide a circle evenly , and you get 6 and 12. Or is there something more to 12? Is there mysticism to numbers ? The story of the 12 disciples made the story of Jesus Christ a perfect, pre destined story. But judas was not the evil 13th disciple. He made the Jesus christ story perfect .

Judas is sorta the lynch pin to all of this. Jesus doesn't go on the cross without it and if that doesn't happen who knows what Christianity becomes. Everyone is entitled to believe whatever belief you want but Jesus needed the betrayal. Someone would've pointed out Jesus though for the reward but that doesn't add to the story.

In the Gospel of John, John refers to Judas as Simon's son, four times. The other three gospels do not repeat that. I believe that is due to John being the last living Apostle when he wrote his version, and it was time for all things to be revealed. I also believe that the Simon being referred to is Simon Peter. Simon Peter is the one who lashed out with a sword as Jesus' betrayal. John knows about Judas because he worked with Simon and would know what kind of person Judas was. Maybe, I'm reading into it, but why else would Judas be the treasurer? Maybe Simon lobbied for Judas to have that position, giving his son a position of prominence, in the same way as the Apostles argued over who was going to be Jesus' 'right hand man'. Satan using the son of Simon Peter to betray Jesus would be quite the irony, since Jesus told Simon that Satan wanted to sift him like wheat, and Simon's three denials of Jesus would come from Simon being emotionally devastated, and anguishing over his son's betrayal of The Messiah.
    But what do I know.

Simon was a very common name back then. Simon the fisherman who also became a follower of Jesus was renamed by Jesus as Peter (There is also a different disciple known as Simon the Zealot) He is sometimes referred to as Simon Peter. He has no relation to Judas Iscariot. Thanks for watching

I think this guy is the most faithful disciple of Jesus and the greatest among them. I mean there is no way i will believe that he will betray him for even a mountain of gold , but a handful of a silver coins. Someone who followed Jesus the way the disciples did, is someone who chose to follow in his foot steps and who gave up on seeking worldly and material riches, they were his elites, moreover he took part of the blessing of the last supper. I don't know what was the agreement he made with Jesus, but i assume the reward was worth it, since the sacrifice he made is enormous, being the one to deliver Jesus to death and to be cursed by everyone and known as THE traitor and one of the wickedest human beings in history for eternity, is something no one can accept, they will prefer a thousand deaths than this. But apparently he did.

@@FORGOTTENHISTORYCHANNEL What's written is one thing, but what you believe about Judas is another thing. It's written that he was the one to deliver Jesus, but it's also written that Jesus informed his disciples prior to his entry to Jerusalem that he will be put to death and that the ones who should take part of this with him will suffer tremendously because of him. Jesus even got angry at Peter for trying to convince him not to go ahead with this plan and called him satan, but when Judas deliver him, he called him friend? The guy literarily left all his possessions and followed him for years until the very last moment, he was even the only one to share Jesus bowl/plat food in the last supper. This is what is written, what's the real story behind this betrayal, one can only guess, but its hard to believe the reason is greed for few miserable coins nonetheless.

Biblically speaking, the apostle closest to Jesus was John. Jesus revealed to John who would betray him at the last supper, and was the only disciple that wasn't martyred. John was also the one who was given the visions of heaven & the end of days to write the book of revelation.
As far as I see it Judas' role of the betrayer was pre-ordaned. He loved money more than he loved Jesus. Jesus knew that there would be someone who would sell him out, but he allowed it to let salvation take place.
