WHY ARE THERE NO ROMAN RECORDS OF JESUS?

  • The silence of antiquity. The Roman empire kept extensive records, so why is Jesus’ trial and crucifixion not recorded.
    Why did Pontus Pilate not write about Jesus? Why didn’t Herod’s court make a record of Jesus? Often a string of ancient names (contemporaries of Jesus) will be listed and then it will be pointed out that non of them mentioned Jesus. That’s like pulling 100 books from the 1920s off the shelves of the library and saying, “non of these books mention Babe Ruth, so he must not have existed.”
    The bottom line is, very few records from that time have survived. Even Pontus Pilate himself only has a few surviving references that verify his historical existence. We only have one reference to Pontus Pilate by a Roman Historian, and that reference was only there to give a frame of reference to who the sect of Christians were.
    So, most of what we know about Pontus Pilate actually comes from the Bible.
    There are a couple of things we need to remember. Jesus was only famous with a very small amount of people within his lifetime. Why would anyone write about him outside those who were his followers? Secondly, we don’t know whether Pilate, or Herod, or any other Roman official ever wrote about Jesus, because so many of the Roman records did not survive. There may have been records about him, but we don’t have any of the notes or records that Pilate’s administration kept from the time frame. Be sure you caught that line. They are gone, burned, eradicated, non-existant. This is the case with most of the documents and records of the time.
    The only way documents survive through the centuries is if they are copied. Copying had to be done by hand. It was expensive. Only the most important documents would be kept. Why would the execution record of one so-called insurrectionist survive? After all, people were being executed by the thousands all over the empire.
    This sounds like an intelligent argument, until you understand what small number of documents have survived through the centuries. When you consider the scant amount of documents that we have from antiquity, it’s actually EXTREMELY stunning that we have so many documents about Jesus. It’s almost unthinkable that so many were deemed valuable enough to be copied over and over. The only reason that this would be, is if something really important like a real live divine Jesus existed.

      @donwharrison You're funny, long winded and ignorant on this topic, yet still funny. 12 of the world's top academics, many of whom are atheists themselves such as Bart Erman, asserted that the life and death of Jesus is irrefutable based upon historical evidence. I guess you know more than they do? That leaves the resurrection in question. We can tackle that in a moment.
      The evidence you demand is well known and easily found. In another comment section this was provided to you, yet you dismissed it like a petulant child. So why repeat the same mistake by giving you what you want only to see you dismiss it because you don't like it? What is it they say about insanity?
      Like most immature atheists, not all atheists are immature by the way, you rail against the ultimate father figure...God. You have the freedom to believe or not believe in whatever you choose and I will defend your right to do so. Sadly many atheists are beyond arrogant enough to believe that they know for certain that God does not exist while simultaneously believing that the entire universe came from nothing and that life evolved from amino acids. They then attack Christians, no other religious groups are targets of their ire more.
      Truth, statistically the chance of one protein being assembled from amino acids is so low to make it practically impossible. Scientists can theorize yet they have been unable to repeat and observe the process. For something to be proven by science it must be repeatable and observable. The entire theory of evolution falls flat on this premise alone. Never mind that not one transitional species has ever been found. No evidence, cannot be repeated and observed=an unsound hypotheses at best.
      For the record, an historical event or person is incapable of being repeated or observed obviously. We must then go another route. I recognize that I was just equally long winded, that isn't necessarily a bad thing for those like us that are willing to write and read novellas in a YT comments section. Have a goodnight, God bless you.

      I surely think that the records are very reliable and support the historical fact of Jesus existence. Taking into consideration that many sources about Jesus were from Jewish and Roman historians/sources, and considering the entities of these people, their account must be very reliable. More then that, they have no reason to value, record or keep records of someone that was a threat to their empire or beliefs. By the way, through how many uncounted hands could these records have been passed through, taking an extreme period of 33AD and 80AD? Don't confuse rumours with records! The letters of Pliny were discovered and published early 16th century. So there we have a fresh source!! I do understand that denying Pilates existence is very much at hand, because he stood face to face with Jesus. But, Pilate is mentioned by many historians and people of his time (the Gospels and the book of Acts), too much than what he deserved (check it out for yourself). Regarding the comparison with mythical movements, do they have over 2 billion followers like the christians do? This is more then enough evidence that something really significant has happened 2000 years ago. Calling a growing population of over 2 billion people delusional is ignoring the statistics and cynicism. It should motivate further investigation and the encountering of historical records confirmed by archeological evidence. The new testament is based on over 5200 manuscripts. This population is the result of a historical Jesus and not a mythical one, That's the difference made this church survived all the persecutions of his times and even the ones today. That's the emperor's palace actually! Ask any serious historian (believer or non-believer) and they will not deny the existence of the historical Jesus. At the end, the facts of the historical Jesus is overwhelming leaving the choice to the individual either to accept Jesus as the son of God, or just reject it.

      The letter of Pilate in contest to the protestations of the Pharisees to Rome (Ceasar) was a legislative document. A governance report. One that is a man's testimony of internal suffering and bitterness against a deed fulfilled out of a regional and political placare in fear of uprising. In his letter he describes the man whom he permitted freedoms to minister upon the testimony of Manlius, Pilate's most trusted agent. Dr Carrier and Dr Murdoch on one side (and that is not all) followed by Dr. Dale and Dr. Ehrman showing that he did exist. I lean toward his existence (and yes I know it is weak), but my years as a detective. People when they make something go way OVERBOARD almost immediately. Not so with the story of Jesus and I use the gospel of Mark as an example. Jesus life and death are quagmire to his status is he God or a son of, his powers are vague and his healing is not fully explain (as you find in the later Gospel). Much like a real person existed, but legends grew up around him, where the rebellious Jesus becomes the God Jesus. Jesus is not much different like the modern day David Koresh. This just my opinion and I thank you for the link.

      The "Testimonium Flavianum" is considered by most scholars to be a church interpolation ( forgery) that an anonymous scribe put into Josephus's late 1st century book Jewish Antiquities early in the 4th century CE. Not for over 200 years -- until the mid 4th century -- did any writer ever mention that short paragraph. All that time the book was well known among Roman Church scholars, so it's extremely unlikely that in all that time no one ever noticed. There had apparently been complaints of the lack of any secular evidence for the gospel stories, which apparently inspired the forger to concoct the short paragraph and slip it into the book manuscript he was hand-copying. Josephus would never have seen "Jesus" as "the Messiah". In other parts of his book he was skeptical and scornful of Messianic claims. Also, the TF contains all the basic points of Roman church dogma about "Jesus". Josephus, a devout Jew, would not have written that.

    The letter from Pilate to Tiberius was rediscovered by a German researcher in the Vatican Library in the 1880's. He hand copied it and it has been reprinted along with his testimony. This is not surprising. The Vatican library is the official Archive of Rome and a massive amount of material in the library is basically records of Roman reports and events.
    The Acta Pilate exists in four forms. Three of these are Acta Pilate written much earlier in the Millenium from memory when it was reported that the original had been erroneously reported as lost. The last copy of the original Acta is the one transcribed from the original and is a most fascinating letter. Much information about Jesus is provided and it is clear that Pilate had a friendship with Jesus and he was also very concerned about the activities of the day and how it would affect Rome.

    Sounds like a plausible explanation, unless you have some basic historical knowledge. Mr Kitchen claims that Jesus was "only famous within a very small amount of people within his lifetime" which is believable, but incompatible with the gospels which claim that Jesus performed miracles in front of many thousands of people and that "News about him spread all over Syria" (Mark 4:24). Also, although the existence of a wandering, rabble-rousing rabbi who claimed to be the Messiah is not that extraordinary or implausible, many of the events supposedly recoded by the (anonymous) gospel authors were very unusual and utterly implausible and if they had in fact happened as described then the likelihood of them being mentioned in contemporary records is high. I don't know if Jesus ever existed (although on balance I think it unlikely) but neither does Mr Kitchen.

    Historians agree that the gospels (written in Greek, by unknown authors, from 70 to 140CE) portray Jesus as famous far and wide, a prophet and healer, with great multitudes of people who knew about him, including the greatest Jewish high priests and the Roman authorities of the area, and not one person records his existence during his lifetime? If the poor, the rich, the rulers, the highest priests, and the scribes knew about Jesus, who would not have heard of him?
    Amazingly, we have not one Jewish, Greek, or Roman writer, even those who lived in the Middle East, much less anywhere else on the earth, whoever mention him during his supposed life time. This appears quite extraordinary, and you will find few Christian apologists who dare mention this embarrassing fact.

      the idea that someone who could walk across water and bring beloved family members back from the dead would have attracted the notice of some important people is pretty persuasive. However Jesus probably didnt do any of those things,he was just another prophet in the desert in a land where desert prophets were more common than camels. It doesnt make him mythical but you dont attract a lot of people to your newly formed church without padding the resume a little.

      Exactly. A person who self proclaimed or was proclaimed as God incarnate would cause such a gargantuan furor that no amount of suppression of written materials by non believers could prevent the reappearance of large number of contemporary records about the Universe almighty God or God the son who once walked amongst the faithfuls in Jerusalam and Palestinian lands during the 20s and 30s AD. I would find it incredible that Christian apologists could blatantly argued that only some scanty material albeit highly controversial ones can be found only some 7 years, 10 years or more probably 20-40 years later after his presupposed death. Even if there was a Jesus character or as some said a Yeshua teacher was around during those times, given that the name was amongst the most popular Jewish names used then, how could one be sure these rare records of his 'divine' existence or any writings of his great works were not latter embellishments? Extraordinary assertions do require substantial and credible materials to be used to back them up. In this case neither the quality nor the quantity of materials back up these incredulous claims. It would be to the churches great advantage to easily avail non Christian historians and independent researchers all these materials than hide them in the dark recesses of their libraries. The onus is thus on them to produce the sources to 'wipe' the atheists arguments off the planet. But unfortunately they didnt and couldnt. Base on these arguments, we can hence safely disregard these wild claims and half baked evidences. Of course there are obvious reasons why Christian scholars religiously argued their case with such weak evidences. One thing for sure is they do have a lot to lose if they lose the debates, considering their jobs could be at stake hence the need to rigorously defend and propagate these lies at all costs.

Also a letter from Caisopus The High Priest. They have recently through archeology found a tomb of the high priests. A ossary box containing the bones of Caiphos found inside it 2 nails, and one nail outside the box, dating back to the time of the crucification. This can be answered very easily.
    Was there a group of people known and called by the Romans as Christians in the first century?
    Was there a group of people known and called by the Jews as Christians in the first century?
    Was there a man named Yeshua ben Joseph, that the Sanhedrin called son of Pantera and he was accused of being a bastard of a Jewish woman name Maryam who went around healing the sick and they had put on trial for blasphemy that they recorded as turning over to the Romans for execution that are in the Sanhedrin trial documents you can read today?
    Was there a man named Pontius Pilate whose stone inscription calls him the prefect of Judea?
    Was there a bone box of a priest named Joseph Caiaphas found in Jerusalem?
    Was there a priest named Joseph Caiaphas mentioned by name by Flavius Josephus?
    Was there a Theophilus?
    Was there a Herod the Great?
    Was there a Herod Antipas (Antipater)?
    Was there a tetrarch named Philip?
    Does the city of Caeseria exist?
    Did the city of Jerusalem fall in 70 AD?
    Was there a Mariamne married to Herod the Great?
    Was there a Salome?
    Was there a priest named Aristobolus?
    Was there a man named Matthias also tried by the Sanhedrin recorded in trial documents of the Sanhedrin?
    Was there a man name James, the brother of Jesus, also tried by the Sanhedrin and recorded by the Sanhedrin?
    Why does the Babylonian Talmud first written in 70 AD mention Jesus as being executed by the Romans?
    In what century do the Jews first claim that Jesus is not the messiah?
    Given that you can find every one of these names from Roman and Jewish sources that are available to you, why would you assume there are no records?
    But the answer is in the first. Was there a group of people in the first century known by and called as Christians by the Romans?

    When Jesus died he had only 120 people who believed in him. When his fame grew he was written about and then his fame spread world wide and changed the entire course of history. Get over it atheist he is pretty well known i would say...God did a good job in letting the world know of his son. Very shortly here you go:1. A.D. 64, the Roman historian Tacitus wrote:
    Nero fastened the guilt ... on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus (Christ), from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of ... Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome....[5] 2. Pliny was the Roman governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor around A.D. 112 wrote:
    They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of food - but food of an ordinary and innocent kind.[10]
    3. Josephus, a first century Jewish historian. On two occasions, in his Jewish Antiquities, he mentions Jesus. The second, less revealing, reference describes the condemnation of one "James" by the Jewish Sanhedrin. This James, says Josephus, was "the brother of Jesus the so-called Christ” this agrees with Paul's description of James in Galatians 1:19 as "the Lord's brother."
    4. As interesting as this brief reference is, there is an earlier one, which is truly astonishing. Called the "Testimonium Flavianum," the relevant portion declares:
    About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he ... wrought surprising feats.... He was the Christ. When Pilate ...condemned him to be crucified, those who had . . . come to love him did not give up their affection for him. On the third day he appeared ... restored to life.... And the tribe of Christians ... has ... not disappeared.[17]
    5. Babylonian Talmud, a collection of Jewish rabbinical writings compiled approximately A.D. 70-500.
    On the eve of the Passover Yeshu (Jesus) was hanged. For forty days before the execution took place, a herald ... cried, "He is going forth to be stoned because he has practiced sorcery and enticed Israel to apostasy."[21
    Lucian of Samosata, Celsus, Cornelius Tacitus, Pliny the younger , the Talmud, Seutonius and Flavius Josephus . The Dead Sea Scrolls", Phlegon. These people have lived during the first and the second century.

      Not so! The majority of scholars from the Western (historically Christian) countries have acquiesced in claims for the historicity of Jesus, sometimes for no better reason than that it was too much hassle to object, and in the past (and to this day in primitive and backward places like the Yankee Bible Belt) there could be detrimental consequences for challenging these claims. There are some genuine scholars who conclude that Jesus was a real historical figure (Bart Ehrman for example) but any critical examination of the evidence for this would have to conclude that it was plausible but unproven. By any reasonable application of the normal Historical Method we can plainly see that claims for Jesus' historicity do not reach the evidential standard required for any degree of certainty.

    Atheists used to make a big point of questioning whether Pontius Pilate ever existed. From what I understand, they would say there is no record of such a guy outside the Gospels. I mean no record - that he was ever governor of the province or that anyone with that name ever lived. They didn't say the province didn't have a governor; just that there was no way to know his name. That was until the 1960s, when some archaeological dig in Caesarea found a theater stone that said it was built by Governor Pontius Pilate. That was in the 30s, and what we know of the province just a few decades later is vastly greater. When St. Paul was imprisoned in Caesarea, we have Roman documentation about those two governors. The first one was living with a famous woman (who was married to a client king) and who would become the most famous individual to die at Pompeii from the volcanic eruption in year 79. St. Paul was invited to dinner with the governor and this 'wife' on occasion. They wanted to talk to him about buying his way out of prison; he wanted to talk to them about marital fidelity.

The only references to them in history are the new testament writings. news.nationalgeographic.com/2016/03/160306-bible-apostle-jesus-christian-religion-ngbooktalk/ And the earliest evidence for Peter's martydom comes from the gospel of John, written about 30 years after his death. So we don't even know if that is true. He is the "best sourced" of all the apostles, and even his evidence is just from the bible. The documents relevant to jesus of nazareth would have been kept at the fortress antonia, the records of the registration of the jews at golgotha for the tribes of the jews, the temple archives of the proceedings of the sanhedrin, copies sent to the archives of the prefect in caesaria philippi, copies sent to the governor of syria, and copies sent to the tabularium in Rome.
    The records would have been intact presumably until the time of commodus or marcus aurelius. Luke would have had an easy time to extract these documents prior to the destruction of the temple. The apostolic fathers would have had a lot of opportunities to extract the same records until the reign of marcus aurelius.
    It is reasonable to assume that fragmented tecords and archives would have been available until 250 from the crucifixion of jesus, or until the reign of septimus severus. This is about the same distance in history of us today and george Washington. Consider that to give you an idea of the span of time and circumstances of preservation.

    You might want to read up on Philo of Alexandria, a Hellenised Jewish rabbi and writer and historian who was born about the time Jesus was born and lived in Palestine and had family there, from memory his sister had married into the family of Herod. Despite not being a Christian he is regarded as one of the Church Fathers, being the author of the tenets that the Christian church adopted regarding Heaven and Hell and the afterlife. He outlived Jesus but in none of his writings does he even mention him, no crowds, no miracles, no darkness in the afternoon, no earthquakes, no resurrection of the dead from the cemetery Jesus was supposed to be buried in as reported in the gospels. He also wrote a detailed history of Pontius Pilate's violent and controversial governorship of Palestine, and all the terrible things he did to upset the Jews, but again Philo makes no mention of Jesus or Barrabas. The Romans weren't the only people writing eyewitness accounts of history. You don't seem to have many books behind you on your shelves. May I suggest you read and research more before you publicly broadcast your ignorance and biased opinions. You do not do your particular faith any favours by pushing inaccurate half truth and guesses. Believe what you want but don't fear the truth, your faith should be stronger than that.

( also told Daniel to seal up the books for a later time) This is the later time, and everything is being revealed for the End Of the Age is here. The arguements that God chooses not to intervene, can't intervene or does not exist far outweigh any evidence of existence and so rationale should tell anyone that belief in God is illogical. THE NAME IMMANUEL AS THE BIRTH GIVEN NAME:
      Matthew 13:55-56
      55. Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And his brethren, Jacob, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judah?
      56. And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
      Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of Jacob, and Joseph, and of Judah, and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
      Jacob, Joseph, Judah and Simon, the names of his brothers are all Hebrew names and Immanuel is also a Hebrew name; but Jesus is a Latinized Greek name. Why would Mary and Joseph name all the other sons Hebrew names but name him JESUS? The answer is they would not, Immanuel was his birth given name.
      John 6:42 And they said, Is not this (Immanuel), the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that he says, I came down from heaven?
      You may be saying in my scriptures, John 6:42 has the name Jesus or Yahshua and not Immanuel. Let me prove to you that Immanuel was his name. Immanuel was prophesied in Isaiah 7:14 to be the name at birth. Everyone who knew him as he was growing up, knew him by the name Immanuel. This was his earthly name which would have been on the tax lists.
      Isaiah 7:14 Therefore Yahweh himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
      Isaiah 7:14, is the prophecy for Immanuel’s name.
      Let's compare this with when the Messenger appeared to Joseph in a dream, telling him what to name the child. You will see the contradiction.
      Matthew 1:23 is the fulfillment of the Isaiah 7:14 prophecy.
      Matthew 1:21-23 -- THE LIE
      21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
      22. Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
      23. BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BRING FORTH A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL," which translated means, "GOD WITH US."…
      As you should be able to see in the above verses that they put JESUS, SIN, LORD, GOD. These are all proven to be pagan deity names. They put those into the scriptures to take the place of the true names or words as you can see with the truth put back.
      How the scripture should read:
      Matthew 1:21-23 .. THE TRUTH
      21. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name IMMANUEL: for he shall save his people from their transgressions.
      22. Now all this was done, to fulfill which was spoken of Yahweh by the prophet saying,
      23. Behold a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name IMMANUEL, which being interpreted is Yahweh with us.
      24. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the Messenger of Yahweh had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
      25. And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name IMMANUEL.
      Isaiah 7:14 ........Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. PROPHECY
      Matthew 1:23 Behold a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name IMMANUEL, FULFILLMENT
      The prophecy could never have been fulfilled if the birth given name was any other than IMMANUEL.
      El means mighty one, and Isaiah 44:6 Thus says Yahweh the King of Israel, and his redeemer Yahweh of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no EL /MIGHTY ONE. This is why EL at the end of IMMANUEL actually means YAHWEH because there is no other except HIM.
      Isaiah 8:8,10
      8. And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.
      10. Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for Yahweh is with us.
      THE PARADOX
      Yahweh said his name would be Immanuel, NOT JESUS, not YAHSHUA OR ANY OTHER NAME. The name Jesus, which is supposed to be a transliteration of the name Joshua or Yahshua. Let me now prove that Joshua and Jesus names are not and never were the same name.
      Jesus = English
      Iesous = Greek
      Iesus = Latin
      The above is Jesus in English, Greek and Latin. As you can see there is no word in the Hebrew for the name Jesus.
      Joshua = English
      IOSIAS = Greek = ÉÙÓÉÁÓ"
      Josue = Latin
      Yahshua = Hebrew = Yahweh salvation
      The above is Joshua in English, Greek, Latin and Hebrew.
      These two verses is where they injected Joshua.
      Hebrews 4:8 KJV
      For if JESUS had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day
      Hebrews 4:8 New American Standard Version
      For if JOSHUA had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that.
      Acts 7:45 KJV
      Which also our fathers that came after brought in with JESUS into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;
      Acts 7:45 New American Standard Version
      And having received it in their turn, our fathers brought it in with JOSHUA upon dispossessing the nations whom God drove out before our fathers, until the time of David.
      American Standard first came out in 1900 well after the lie was already perpetuated on the name Jesus and why they inserted Joshua in those verses.
      Luke 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spoke unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses and in the prophets, and in the Psalms, concerning me.
      If the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14 was not fulfilled, which it was in Matthew 1:22-23 and if the prophecy of Hebrews 1:4 and Philippians 2:9 was not fulfilled, which it was in John 5:43; then, he did not fulfill all the prophecies about himself and he never came. Although, Luke 24:44 says they must ALL be fulfilled, which HE DID.
      This is why you have many of these Yahweh Movements, Jewish Movements and Righteous Name Movements using Yahshua/Yehshua/Yahoshua and other spellings for the son's name which they use for their salvation just like Christians use the name Jesus for theirs. Christianity is where they were brainwashed to believe it was the birth given name that brought or brings salvation, yet there is no salvation for today.
      You will hear some say that EL is a pagan deity. But I believe you will find that statement is not true.

      The Qur'an uses the name "`Eesa" for "Esau" for the name Jesus.
      Joshua = English / Jesus = English
      Joshua / Iosias = Greek - Jesus / Iesous = Greek
      Joshua / Josue = Latin - Jesus / Iesus = Latin
      Joshua / Yahshua = Hebrew - Jesus / they have no name for Jesus
      Jesus = Iesous = EA - Zeus = Healing Zeus
      Jesus name comes from two pagan deity names Ea which was a deity of healing and Zeus. That's why it makes sense that the Greek deity of healing was Iesous,
      Jesus = English
      Jesus comes from the Greek name "Iesous/IHSOUS" and Latin "Iesus." "Iesous" is adapted from the name of the Greek goddess of healing "Iesos/Iaso," the daughter of Apollo, the Sun-deity. This goddess was linked to the Egyptian "Isis" who had a son named "Isu." During the era of Roman Emperors, there were numerous worshippers of "Isis." Many converted to Constantine's religion that mixed paganism with the Messianic faith that eventually became the Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Church continues to use the sunburst emblem known as the "Eucharist" which to this day contains the Greek letters "IHS" for "IHSOUS." Further research reveals that the name "Jesus" is also linked to the Greek Sun-god "Zeus" who was the Greek interpretation of the Egyptian Sun-god "Amen-Rah."

    Well, Justin Martyr, the Philosopher, claimed in one of his aplogies that there was an official report of Pontius Pilate in the Roman archives and that anyone can read them if they don't believe that Pilate executed Jesus. However, viral opinions between scholars differ as to whether these lost texts in question ever existed or whether Justin lied about them. But the later medieval Christian fanfictions about the letters and documents of Pontius Pilate (aka Pilate cycle), according to some, speaks for the hypothesis that such documents once existed, but after their disappearance or destruction, Christians have had the need to replace the missing texts.

    The most really amazing thing is how the only begotten Son of God has so little real documention (actually none) outside a book a collection of fables and been accepted as real by so many people for so long. Real was he? In what terms?

      You do understand that any legitimate, historical scholar will tell you there is more historical, non-religious documentation for a man named Jesus existing than almost any other human, not called Caesar, right?
      And more than most Caesars, to be precise.

    W do have record of Jesus. They are in the London library. The orbital letters. An exact account of the trail and crucifixion of Jesus. Said we do not have any account is just wrong
    We do. Even his death certificate.

    Pontius Pilate wrote a letter to Caesar saying he believed Jesus was the Son of God. Caiaphas did the same. A Roman record keeper named Thalleus or something similar to that said that Jesus was not a man. He said Jesus was surely capable of extraordinary feats. He said many believe Him to be the Son of God, and they may be correct.

    It's hard to extrapolate backwards from a few remaining artefacts. It's hard to find news and evidence of recent events that happened in our life time, let alone when whole civilisations have superseded past ones.
    Even the local high streets has stores that have superseded old ones, new ones have been built, new road layouts, yet the transactions conducted within then and the experiences people had in them every day for decades would be hard to trace.
    London was built over, old Roman civilisations and occasionally they'll come across something from the past, date it, interpret it, then it becomes a part of our historical knowledge, but was common every day knowledge to those living at the time.
    The question should be why haven't we found...? Saying theres are no records assume you've excavated everything and correctly identified them.

    What most people fail to realize is the Bible is not a work of history. The Septuagint (which predates the Masoretic text) has been rejected by Jews because in time it no longer fit in with their theological teachings. Despite that, certain books, like the first Maccabees, have a degree of historical truth in them. But theology is the main concern for religious texts. This also applies for the Christian canon. When Isaiah speaks of a "virgin" and later etymologists correct the term to refer to a young lady, the Christians retain the "virgin" because it works with their theology. When searching for history in religious texts, in that of characters, settings, stories, very little can be verified as evidence. Jesus (for the early Christians) most likely was a legend rather than actual person. The same can be said of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and even Moses (for the Israelites and Judeans). The only history to actually be found are by the followers of such theologies. In history there were people called Jews and Christians. But the origins of their faiths were only known to them within their specific groups. Until nations come into contact with other nations, only then can myths be transmitted and acclimated to fit in with their own fancy, and eventual theology. Hence a supposed Judaic Nazarene belief in time became a completely Hellenic gentile form of belief, one quite contrary to Judaic belief and practice.

    There are Roman records about Jesus including Pontius Pilate. In fact in his speaking of him could not understand why the Jewish priesthood had such a problem with him and he called Jesus to him and Jesus came and he warned him that the Jewish priesthood was possibly going to kill him.
