- A fantastic live performance in Salvador, Brazil from 2001 from the mighty Spys.
vSpy vSpy, also known as The Drug Grannies and The Spys, were an Australian ska/pub rock band from Sydney formed in 1981. They became known for tackling political issues through their music, including racism, homelessness and contemporary drug culture. They were named after a comic strip, "Spy vs. Spy" in the US Mad magazine.

So I’m an Aussie living in Chile 20 years. I used to watch theses guys play at my local pub a few times a year in Melbourne - the Mentone hotel! Last night my 18 year old Chilean son came to my room and said “dad listen to this band I like them!” Don’t know how he found them and I said some let me tell you a story! At least he has great taste in music!
I'm a Chilean, living in Oz, with a 25 year old Aussie son. Introduced him to all 80s and 90s Aussie rock. He loves it all. I saw Spy heaps of times, especially at Sweethearts in Cabramatta. I relate to your story. Shame the live scene is not what used to be. I think our sons have great taste too.
In 2021, this was 20 years ago. The amazing times of Oz rock is becoming a distant memory. Thanks Laneway for keeping The Spies alive. It's difficult to believe Mikes been gone for a few years now. He was one of the all time great Oz rock guitarists.
Hear hear
Thank you so much for posting this rare video, Valeu Mesmo ! I'm a Brazilian living overseas , I have just messaged Craig Bloxon to watch this video, I told him he can speak good Brazilian Portuguese. I saw the Spy vs Spy while I was still living in Sao Paulo 2001 at Via Funchal, the same tour of this video posted here.
Brazil is home to Australian Music, No other international country appreciates more Australian music than the Brazilian Rock Audience !
You Brazilians have superb taste in music👍 ☮💓
@@sandgroperwookiee65 I went to Brasilia to meet my then girlfriend's family. She had a friend with a boat. He took us out on the lake in Brasilia...and he proceeded to put on Aussie Rock! It was the Oils. It's great to hear Aussie music making it big elsewhere. Australia has produced some of the best rock music ever to have been written I think. So much great stuff from the 80's.
This is real music, we had them all in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, etc. live bands everywhere in pubs, RSL, Leagues clubs, wine bars, wherever. Saw them in 1981 they were FANTASTIC. Bands like The Models, INXS, Machinations, Eurogliders, Jimmy and the Boys, Machine Gun Fellatio just a few to remember.
Saw INXS for $4 and AC/DC for $2 (Marana Hall Hurstville 1975), Australian Crawl Selinas pub Bondi $6, can anyone beat that?
Mind you we have replaced them with poker machines, booze buses, highway patrol and crap TV, Netflix and other mindless pursuits. Who agrees?
I saw these guys so many times in the 90's at the Palais Royale in Newcastle. Fuckin' great band, had many a great night seeing them

Como esse Craig Bloxom é carismático! Cheio de energia e talento ❤♪
Thanks for that awesome video, have never seen it before. So great to see the super powerful, crazy charisma, mega bass player Craig Bloxom slaying them. How good is Mike Weilly - having a ball and showing why he was one of Aussies great guitarists. A huge thanks to Brasil whom understood and appreciated this band at the level they should have been held here in Aus.
V Spy V Spy a melhor banda de Surf music pra sempre! Rip Mike
Awesome, love the Spys.
R.I.P Mike
Wow, rare jem. RIP Mike, he was the secret weapon sound of The Spies.
Blox sounds 1000% in this, turn it up.
Brings tears to my eyes, time does not wait for any of us. Thanks for posting! The song references are still applicable in todays world. Long live the legacy of the spies.
Thank you Laneway Music. That was fantastic. Loved hearing Craig's base turned up nice & loud.
Loved seeing the Spys when they came to Western Australia, once travelled from Kalbarri about 6 hours north of Perth where we were on easter holidays down to Geraldton about an hour and half away to see them at the Wintersun Hotel, great memories and great gig.
This was great to watch, Bloxs voice sounds like he’s blown it out and doing his best.
I’ve see. Spy v Spy over a dozen times 80’s - 90’s and his voice was much stronger, as good and sometimes better than the records.
Still enjoyed it, cheers!
Agreed that Craig's voice is not what it was sadly but make no mistake his bassplaying is still the bomb. Charging as hard as ever with that axe around his neck and always such a ballsy combo with Mike. Barton Price ain't Cliff Grigg but he's more than qualified to be on stage in Brazil with the mighty Spies. So stoked they've got a new album on the way in 2021/2!!
Incrível! Assistindo a estreia as 6 da manhã!!! E com o Blox comentando ao vivo? Long live the Spies!!!!
Onde rolou esses comentários do Craig???
@@ivancouto9064 no chat do vídeo. Na descrição.
Blox is the best frontman ever, a legend indeed! Miss these days...
Best aussie 3 member band ever.Rip mike and thanks for the memories.
Espetacular! Muitas memorias, vi o show dessa turnê em Florianópolis, inesquecível.
What a fantastic proshot hidden gem.
Paulo Nunes on Drums !
This is so groovy, I spent the late 80's to the late 90's going to The Spies gigs when they were a constant in the Sydney live music scene and touring the NSW north coast, It's great to see Bloxy & Michael gigging in Brazil, if Clint was up there playing with them.. This would be an epic gig video.
Far from their peak a decade earlier but hanging there ! Stumbled home many times after a Spies gig on the Sydney beaches.
remembering the tour 'sampoerna australian surf music', back in 2000. in brazil, one venue took place on the beach of maresias/sp (brazil). i still got the original stickers from the merchandising crew and the great pleasure of being there. what a great time!
So good! Great memories of the shows I went to in the 80’s and 90’s
Yesssssss! Thanks Laneway Music! Sooooo great to see! Love V Spy V Spy! 💖🎼🙏
Fantástico amo essa banda. Esse é o Spy verdadeiro
Wow what a perfect set! I've seen the oils and hoodoo's live in Oz but not the spy's dammit! Once I see them my life will be complete.
Surf music no Sul bomba sempre
Sensational stuff from the spies. What was even better was that David Turpin was able to feature on drums for this tour!
Amazing!!!! thanks for post! Epic show!! great times!
Not their best gig by far. Saw these guys a number of times supporting Midnight oil and on their own. Craigs voice was so much stronger than it is here. Still remain one of the best Aussie bands though. It amazes me how many people have never heard of these guys.
Thanks Laneway that was awesome!!!
great full video...thanks!
RIP Mike. Craig please front the band again and tour Sydney!
Craig plays part time in Deep South with Kent Steedman(celibate rifles) check out their videos
good job gang - cheers to still have these memories
Bom demais!
Cool to see BartonP behind the boys!
Maluco!!! que achado... sensacional!!!
Nice!!!
Que demais!!!!!
Uma pena que não tocou "Take me Away". É a minha preferida!
Best looking crowd but for a Boyband show, but the cameras did not catch anyone by surprise.
These guys should have caught a bit of the Grunge wave, they were a few years early but would have fit right in with what was going on on the radio in the early 90's.
The Bass Player is the life of the show, Steve Harris like stage presence but his voice is not as strong as the Album versions. Enjoyed this band in the late 80's, my little secret. One of the first ones I looked up to see what happened when I got online.
Top demais↗️
super banda super show /\💀/🎸🤘
All over the world ....🌏🌎🌍🐋🐟🐬🤟
Go Barton!! 🥁🥁
🕵♂️🎸😎🤙🥁🕵♂️
Sadly a shadow of the band I saw back in the late 80s early 1990s in Melbourne Pubs, but it's good to see some actual live footage at last

freelancer drummer? it seems so
That is Barton price from the Australian band The Models who had many hits in Australia
The guy ruined most of the songs....hahahaha
But its still a great register of the almost original lineup.
@@ivancouto9064 Craig Blox was commenting today during the video premiere and he praised Barton’s drum work saying he did great on this show and called him a legend. Just because he didn’t played a “note for note” like the record, kind of show, like some people would like, it means he ruined anything.
@@franciscorodeghiero3679 this is his opinion, and of course, he's being a gentlemen, and probably, they're personal friends. I cant question his opinion, exactly because is an opinion, and it doesnt change my opinion just because Craig said he was good that concert. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm still amazed to be able to watch such a real treat like this proshot full concert. But, I still keep thinking he destroyed almost all the songs, unfortunately.
@@ivancouto9064 You have no clue in what you are writing about. A professional drummer being putdown by a UA-cam keyboard warrior is just an insult. If Craig said the drummer was excellent would your opinion matter? No. Craig's opinion does matter, so did the audience, who thoroughly enjoyed the concert.
As a teacher, let me comment on your wtiting skills. You need to learn to write sentences properly, as your writing style is at about second classs level. The number of mistakes you make in each sentence tells me you need a refresher course in English. Try learning correct grammar, sentence structure, spelling and punctuation. Then you may be taken seriously, if you are honest.
Péssima qualidade do som.
Is that Barton Price on drums?
Yes
@@Lanewaymusic Awesome! Thanks for letting me know 🙂👍
