Thanks a ton man!! Really glad you loving the channel man!
I just recently discovered my love for Metal Gear Solid last year and to say that I love it is an understatement. I freaking adore the series from MGS 1-4 I love the characters and lore of the story itself I just can't get enough of it! I should have played these a lot sooner because my experience with MGS started with MGS4 watching my brother play it in 2008, It was confusing as hell but I still fell in love with it. But my friend had a copy of mgs1 and I bought it and loved every minute of it from the Darpa chief's "mysterious" death to finding out what Metal gear is. I just had a freaking blast with it.
I feel that hard. I adored the series since 4 came out, and still cosplay Big Boss whenever I can. Absolutely great series
Big up and thanks for this video. I live in the UK and was stuck with the PAL version of the game which runs slower than the NTSC version.
Pleasure is all mine man. Now mind you this is a US download of the game so i will assume its the same in the UK. Good luck man and hope it works well!
Good work on the video. I jumped on this port as soon as it came out. I liked that they added the ability to shoot in first person. And that Widescreen mod is fantastic.
Very appreciated man thank you! It's certainly not the best port but pretty ambitious in what it brought. PC compatibility is always a plus.
I just got this installed and tested (played up til the Heliport) and I couldn't be more happy! It has been years since I've been able to play this and it feels good to be playing myself again and not just watching another let's play. Then I find out MGS2 has a gog version as well?! GOG has me hooked!
Glad to be of service. Glad you enjoy!
Ending with the Big Boss suit n Beret was great lol
Appreciate it man. The cosplay really is my pride and joy
Damn stylish video, especially during the comparison. Subscribed!
And many more to come my friend. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
It really annoys me that the pc misses the frame buffer effects like motion blur. And the blurred textures look horrible, at least there should be an option to turn them off.
I feel that man, this is probably the only time I accept motion blur for cinematic purposes. Its a shame really.
Great video as always.
Much appreciated man. Glad ya enjoyed it!
Super Helpfull Video! Thanks Boss!
You got it comrad
Wait, what? Only 140 votes? This is a very cool video, and you have a very cool voice. I didn't even realize the GOG port I own included the VR Missions until I saw this video, hehe.
Well thank you so much for watching man and I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
Just subbed. Love games preservation content!
And there is a ton more that where that came from. Thanks so much for watching!!

Naw thank you so much for taking the time to watch Cyanide. I really appreciate jt
Excellent review!!
Big thank you good sir! I'm glad ya enjoyed it!
Merry Christmas ☃️
Merry Christmas good sir!!÷
I picked up this port a year ago on a sale and I'm so glad I did. It blew me away how a game from the 90s can be this complex and captivating. I've never played any mgs as a kid because I didn't have a playstation, but Metal Gear is my favorite game franchise now. I'd really hope to see PC ports of mgs 3 and 4 someday. The emulated versions are fine but it would be so epic to get an actual pc release someday.
Unless Konami has the sources might be hard. MMGS4 is stuck on the PS3 and no way to play outside of that. I hope but doesn't seem likely.
I played it towards the beginning / middle of the Ps2's life cycle, and I had a gaming PC and N64 so I didn't think there was anything on PS1 that would impress me but it had maybe the most captivating story I experienced in a game, and I truly felt like I was saving the world singlehandedly.
I love metal gear series and love your video man thank youuu!
My pleasure thanks so much for watching!
@@Kelphelp you deserve more subs😇
Very kind of you to say thabk you! Feel free to spread the videos and let people know about em!!
Really awesome made video! Though I cannot find the link to the patch that fixes widescreen etc. Where is it? :)
Ah my mistake brother, must have slipped my mind. Should be in the post now.
@@Kelphelp I found it on my own. Bought this game and MGS2 Substance as well. Almost finished with the first one and looking forward to second one now. Sick nostalgia!
@@christophercidheden3278 Substance on PC plus Ultra Widescreen gameplay is a fucking godsend. I'm in love
Imo I think the PS1 version is the best looking. Hear me out, while yes, of course the graphical fidelity is more smooth and clean looking in the PC version, especially with all the graphical enchancements. But, the game is an ''old looking'' game, with model clipping, models so low resolution that they don't even have eyes, just ''black shadows'' masking the ''finer details'' on the characters, this also expands to the envirorment.. So what I am trying to argue is that the ''choppyness'' and the ''filter'' that is sort of added ontop with the PS1 version helps to ''sell'' the look of the game more, because it leaves more up to interpetation rather than, ''yeah, these models looks smooth, but I can also see even more how old they are'', sort of thing.
Yeah I’ve found for a lot of PS1 and 2 gen games the visuals serve better on the consoles. When the resolution becomes really crisp on the dated graphics it doesn’t look as good. MGS1 on PS1 also has blacks that make it look better too, those parts look more washed out on PC.
Agree my friend. Agree.
I think the models look fine and I'm not even a MGS fanboy.
@@charlie1234500 Being a ''fanboy'' or not is not even part of the equation. My point is that the original vs high quality models leave alot up to interpetation in the original, less IS actually more in this instance. It sells the atmosphere and feeling of the game much better than a high quality HD do, because at that point you can really see not only the age of the game, but the graphical limitation alot more in contrast.
@@bobmalibaliyahmarley1551 The models are exactly the same on PC and PS1 version. I look at the game as a game that came out the same year as Ocarina of Time. MGS1 look fine to me. I think what you're referencing are the filters that were eliminated from the PC release (which I'm sure there is a mod to restore that), not the 3D graphic models and environments to which like I said look really fine for 1998. Nostalgia goggles do not apply for me.
I was so happy when GOG announced this. At one point I even considered getting the PsOne classic just to play this
Also 11:13 lol I see what you did there
They did a really solid job, and as soon as I heard this I HAD to check it out. Surpassed quite alot of my expectations!
Ever heard of emulators?
Or buy its digital version from PSN.
@@guilhermecaiado5384 Yeah I had the digital PSN version wishlisted already
Dressing like Big Boss gives you no tactical advantage whatsoever. But that was some fancy video. You're pretty good.
Dressing like the Boss?
I am the Boss 😎
Well, you say that. But then there's Venom Snake.
Wow I didn’t know they were releasing a pc version!
And now, you know what must be done...
Well, there's been a PC version for 20 years now. This is a re-release with some added polish ☺
@@jon-umber Yes but this makes it much much easier to run in current hardware which adds a layer of accessibility. Its a pretty big deal for sure
September 24th, 2000, was when they released the PC version.
What are you talking about?
@@guilhermecaiado5384 and GOG rereleases it m8. Course it came out in 2000
How did you get the fullscreen mod to work? I followed everything in the PC fix guide, but nothing's working
Hmmmm, for me I basically just followed the guide to a T and it helped a ton.
I noticed though for me windowed worked better, so I used dgVoodoo for recording. However widescreen has helped in that sense for me.
@@Kelphelp I was able to get it working. Turns out I had to put the files in the game folder (not in a subfolder called "scripts"), and launch from the .exe in the folder, and not from GOG
Can't get this to work on my onexplayer for anything using the built in controllers, which is a real shame.
Try with Steam Deck, you will get MUCH better luck.
Thanks Boss!
Glad I didn't keep you waiting 😌
👏🏻 great vídeo.
Thank you Bison :3
If the pc port gets a 60 fps patch (I wish) i'm sold all the way. Don't care much for FXs removed, awesome vid!
Much appreciated man, glad you enjoyed it!!
Instant sub
Much appreciated my dood!
Ótima comparacão! 👌
Gracias por ver El video. Ya vas a ver ay muchísimo más comparaciones que viene.
I like the PC port to mess around honestly but i feel like they did not have a lot of care for this or mgs2.
The colonell skeleton is not visible in mgs2 PC version for example and the stealth is glitched as heck in PC version of mgs1
Naw you right. This was basically made to make it easier for MGS1 and 2 to run on PC since the originals are pretty difficult to run without modding.
thanks for the video
Naw thank you for watching man I appreciate it!
I used to play Metal Gear Solid 1 on a 700 mhz pentium 3 processor with Windows 2000, 256 mb ram and amd radeon 7000 64 mb vram (which is the weakest 64 mb video card) and Metal Gear solid 1 worked fine like a charm. Heck, Metal Gear Solid 2 surprisingly even worked on that computer but barely and on low settings. I could get 12-15 fps on low settings for Metal Gear Solid 2. But both games were worth playing on that computer.
That's actually surprising it works at that kind of specs. I'm actually having trouble running MGS2 rn on a Pentium 4, FX5200, and 2 GB of ram. It's such a tough one to play.
But you right thankfully MGS1 does work nicely!
The reason why MGS2 actually barely worked on my computer was because of the optimization. Technically, MGS2 requires an 800 MHz pentium 3 but even weaker pentium 3 processors can play that game because of the optimization. The same thing was true for GTA Vice City which also technically requires an 800 MHz pentium 3 but even lower pentium 3's can also play it. Just make sure you have 256 mb ram and at least AMD Radeon 7000 64 mb vram or better with Windows 2000 and on low settings and have at least a pentium 3 (that is close to 800 mhz like mine), you can get at least 15 fps on both of these games. Of course, if my former computer tried to play MGS2 under the new requirements (on HD), then no way it can play.
"I didn't think it was gonna be this SOLID". He. Hehe. I got it.
I made a funny :3
I don’t think there is anything wrong with straightening out those jagged lines. I certainly don’t want to lose any effect filters but as far as a “remake,” it’s really all I want. Just make it look a little clearer on my modern TV and we’re good! Put it on PlayStation cleaned up like this, with original effects intact, Please, Konami!
MGS has some gameplay issues, but nothing is perfect, leave it alone. As far as its presentation, I think it used all of its weaknesses to its advantage.
I have been in love with the look and sound of this game since 1999. The “poor audio quality” erroneously used to justify the Twin Snakes re-record actually gave it a tremendous amount of character.
The first ever codec should not sound crystal clear. Whatever filter they used for the original codec is instant “nostalgia feels” for me and always makes revisiting Shadow Moses feel like going home.
The echo in those big, empty concrete rooms makes you feel like you’re there.
The soundtrack is perfect.
The camera angle gives you a weird, unique view down into this world, often at the loss of line of sight. As annoying as that is, it just gives the player this weird, different connection with the game’s world through this box we are viewing it through, where enemies might just be on the other side of it shooting at you.
The whole game is just weird. They want you to avoid shooting so much that you can’t aim and enemies are off-screen half the time, but then they make you shoot a ton.
Having to hold down the crouch button in order to unlock movement while firing is such a bizarre choice but it actually feels really good to me. I like it. Something about the camera placement and the way Snake moves makes that feel intrinsically right to me.
I will never be able to decide if MGS, MGS2 or MGS3 is my favorite game, but….Shadow Moses is home for sure. The game oozes tone and atmosphere like nothing I’ve played since. It has so much character and every element from gameplay, to cut-scenes, to soundtrack, everything is so well connected as part of this singular experience. That combined with the fact that you are on a singular mission that plays out in real time just makes the entire presentation feel extremely cohesive and you just get lost in it.
I’m not into PC gaming. The PS3 & Vita are the most current consoles you can play this on and that’s kind of criminal. My laptop is 10 years old so…it’ll still probably run this?
It's not a remake. It's a port. Remake is a complete overhaul, like the Game Cube version.
Very nice. The game looks good in high resolution but it does bring out the graphical shortcomings in a way I’m not sure I like. The loss of some creative vision like cutscene special effects is also really sad.
I wonder how an emulated PS1 version compares, with the resolution forced to be higher.
There have been big improvements on this port, so to update it's actually one of the best ports here! Modding community helped big-time with this
There's so many hoops for the giveaway :P
Up to you man. Free is free. That's just if you wanna take advantage of that.
Tried to get that Widescreen mod working, but half the files in the zip aren't extracting, telling me I don't have the password to extract the files. Weird
Did you check the descriptions for the password when you downloaded it? It should be there.
@@Kelphelp Yeah, it was there. Thanks for this, maybe i oughta start reading files named 'read me' haha
Readme files are pretty easy to go through so you should be fine. Good luck.
From what i heard, the reason Twin Snakes' cut-scenes are over the top is cause Kojima literally told the animators "i don't want to see the exact same cut-scenes all over again, so just have fun with it, but make sure they deliver the same message as far as the plot goes" paraphrasing of course.
Metal gear has always touched the bounds of...being out of reality but those scenes were just superhuman at the minimum
@@Kelphelp you do realize Solid Snake and alot of characters are superhuman right?
anyone know a way to play the GameCube version with the ps1 soundtrack?
Unless there is a mod there isn't a way.
@@Kelphelp damn, I could get by with the weird engine they used but the OST was too ass for me
But what about -notruetype -nofilter properties?
Haven't tried those so it's beyond me.
That was...pretty good.
No. You...are pretty good :3
I played both ports... but for mee psx edition using emulator with 4k upscaling with XBR free scaling filter look best
Still wonder who made the decision to get rid of the accents of the characters when they did the Game Cube remake... and all the accents of all games after MGS 2 pretty much.
It does boggle my mind a bit I was rather fond of em, but what can we do I guess right? Still I do prefer em
Forgot to mention the first person mode in integral.
One or two things are always cut out by accident. Can't cover everything at times
What can I say except I need Scissors 61!
God I fuckin love how stupidly random these moments were in 2 :3
definitely one of the reasons I love Metal Gear as a franchise is that Kojima just isn’t afraid to get weird
I prefer how interface elements look in the PS1 version, but I never liked the jittering polygons and textures of PS1 games. I also prefer having textures filtered on the 3D environments, though the filtering (particularly the actual style used) again hurts the menus. But the cutscenes lacking their original graphical effects on PC is a dealbreaker for me. Also the audio seems to be the wrong pitch on PC.
Hmmm I haven't noticed too much of an audio pitch. But yea man the interface is just so much better and easier to navigate on PS1. Pc got style but man alot is missed here
now do the gog mgs2 version
On the list at some point. Keep your eyes peeled
So... Which is better overall?
Depends on the person. For an original experience, PS1 is the way to go, for those who just want to experience it, PC is not a bad way at all. Choice is yours in the end.
@@Kelphelp Thanks dude, awesome video btw
You are very kind man. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy more of whats to come!
The bilinear filtering on the PC textures wipes out a lot of detail. Yeah it's technically better, but I personally prefer PS1 at 4x resolution with PGXP and a CRT filter for the UI.
In some instances yes. There have been some updates on PC as mods have kept the resolution to scale to your monitor, keeps the 4:3 AND excludes bilinear filters. Atm is the best way to play
Thanks for video. . Currently plaything through all the metal gears on a ps3 in order. Playing mgs1 downloaded from the psn store but this pc version looks so much better. Gonna stick with it for now and finish it on the ps3 and then buy it on GOG.
"you're pretty good"
Glad you enjoyed man, appreciate the watch!
@Kelphelp maybe video on what mgs1 remake should be
@@paulsmith9192 That's not too bad but a very different cup of tea than I am used to going into hypotheticals. Hmm I'll keep my head on it.
One day I going to play All the Metal Gear Solid game (maybe all the Metal Gear games but I think be focus on MGS is a good start).
I have in my backlog many MGS games (1 on PS1, Twin Snake on GC, 2 & 3 & Peace Walker on 360 and 4 on PS3) so I don't have any excuse to not finish one ^^' !
I take advantage of this video to talk about my first encounter with the 1st MGS, who's not the game but with a fan made french audio drama (we call that Saga MP3) name Méta Gueule Solide (a play on words with the french expression "Mais ta gueule", translate by "Shut the fuck up") make by Durendal (now a french movie reviewer on UA-cam) in 2006 (so old now T_T) ! Unfortunally If you don't understand french you can't appriciate that, but I want to share that détail in my life ^^ !
Good stuff btw !
11:14 "this solid" , its not just solid, its metal gear solid.... :D
It's true. We all solid
The whole game is a moment
Absolutely. Holds up so well tbh
i grew up with the pc port, the vr missions are such a nostalgic throwback for me.
And with this level of compatibility its a great reason to go back
Konami basically did the lazy option of just re releasing the old PC port.
I mean true. But besides that there isn't many ways to play the PC game regardless
Would give up all the cool effects if the game at least ran at 60 fps on pc. But it seems to run internally at a lower framerate.
It doesn't seem the original nor integral was supposed to be run at 60fps so it happens especially in this Gen. Just how it be I'm afraid
@@Kelphelp yeah rip.
Even a stutterless 30 fps would have been nice. But this game seems to microstutter continuously.
That's how it be man and that's okay. That's just the way things are sometimes.
Nitpicks but, interesting take on it. Its overall a very decent port of PS1 original.
Agreed but hey, I do like to be nitpicky so people see what features work on what versions
@@Kelphelp True. I guess the main noticable difference is the effect layers during cutscenes but yeah
I never played this game on the PlayStation so I'm thinking of buying the port for pc
Easily accessible and pretty cheap! I say it be worth it man!
@@Kelphelp How about MGS 2?
Its just as solid pun intended :3 I only played a small amount but it's pretty awesome actually!!! I may need to do a video soon!#
@@Kelphelp Do you recommend playing it with a keyboard or a controller?
I grew up playing MGS on controller snd personally feel comfortable with that. Others...maybe not but its an option.
Not gonna lie, I would choose the original PS1 version any day.
In a way I really don't blame you. I can see the differences being a significant change or modding a bit of a price of entry. But I will say it makes sense in that regard
@@Kelphelp It's the high resolution that kinda kills the feeling of the game for me. If there was a way to render the game in 320x240, and have it integer scaled up to 1080 or something, to retain the original PS1 look, that would be fine.
@@AndehX that for sure you can't I'm afraid. It's not like with an upscaler where you can do it on hardware but definitely doesn't do it. So no sharp pixels. I feel ya man
Metal Gear Rex is hard af.

Same
I personally prefer the PSone look. I was thinking about getting an emu for the PSone just so I can get some screengrabs of older games.
Hey, so is the hitching only caused since you're playing in widescreen?
Mhm! I didn't notice any when I was playing in regular 4:3 mode
@@Kelphelp Oh right on! Thanks for the reply!
Naw thanks A ton for watching i really appreciate it!
@@Kelphelp No problem. I subbed! Port comparisons are very useful for when I'm deciding what version of a game to get.
Well, PC port, not as good as the PS1 version, that could be played on PS2, PSP and PS3 (and their emulators, respectively).
But still.
Metal Gear Solid is my all time favorite game.
Im definitely getting it on GOG.
I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. Definitely a hallmark port.
is it weird i prefer the ps1 version?
No cuz it looks fantastic! I don't blame you at all.
I thought the PC version has the same graphics as the GameCube version... DAMN!!!
Wait what naw. Technically the GameCube is its own thing. That version is a Gamecube exclusive
I know.. Thanks for responding it made me happy a bit
No prob thanks for watching man
Nice cosplay :D
Thank you sir! Always love bringing this out when I can.
MGS's original textures are really don't fit for high res and texture filtering, so the game look really janky on PC port for me. I prefer PS1 version emulated on Duckstation with geometry correction, no texture filtering and 4k upscale.
Naw you are right on that and it makes sense. There is only so much you can do with PS1 titles tbh.
The emulation is a good method to do so to make sure it has its original look while retaining some newer quality of life features like 4K
Sure. There's simple solution tho. They could've made pixelated textures and dithering filter as an option that you can switch on and off.
Would have been for sure nice. Knowing them though most likely wanted to just port integral with nothing else than that. Just to make it compatible with modern OS systens
8:28 What am i looking at here?? 😂
Booty.
"... using a keyboard you are at an disadvantage during the fight." Please explain? I'm a keyboard jockey. Hope that won't destroy the playing experience or make it unplayable.
I meant it more as it's an awkward experience to play MGS on a keyboard so take that as you will.
The PlayStation version looked the same as pc your just viewing on newer hardware
Possibly and only difference it was wide-screen for viewing pleasure but you aren't wrong on that.
I guess only thing that sucks is "No vibration" on PC. But outside that its pretty much same good experience you get from PS1 on PC. Its only minor differences but nothing major, its a decent good port!. But yeah the widescreen modification helps alot to make it more adjustable on modern PCs.
👍👍👍👍👍
I mean it's cool. But it's still the crappy PC port. Four things I hated about it were the texture filtering, the missing graphical effects, the lack of 360° control over Snake (even with controller stick), and the absolutely ass audio quality and wrongly placed music tracks. I hope they fixed at least some of these for the GOG release.
That widescreen fix looks really cool though. And everything else is minor enough for me that if I were forced to play this I wouldn't mind.
Funny enough I feel like the texture filtering, graphical elements could be fixed via mod somehow, but I haven't found anything to remedy that, least at the moment.
The 360 control is tough since that's hardwired into the game. You can't even do that in the PS1 version.
Meh, it's just loses also it's grit when you smooth out all the pixels and lose the filters.
Sharp pixels really give it the personality we all know the titles for, but its a shame to see them removed. :/
PS1 is FAR superior. If someone can't tell by looking at those horribly stretched portraits at 5:45 then they seriously need help.
Yea I'm really not a fan of the stretched portraits at all and wish it could be at its native aspect ratio, but what can we do I guess.
Keep in mind that IS a 16:9 mod and not the 4:3 by default.
@@Kelphelp It's possible to do that on the emulated version but it's hard to setup and not very perfect. I would probably choose emulated 4:3 with maybe a higher res and no warping.
Never tried it on emulator but wouldn't be surprised. I made an entire PC modding guide to see how it works if you are interested. Very simple to set up and play. Was pretty pleased beside some obvious caveats. ua-cam.com/video/uz3r7t7O9S0/v-deo.html
@@Kelphelp With dgvoodoo you can force no texture filtering and later add lo-fi effects through reshade so that could work but it's still missing effects.
Another guy on YT says the best possible version to play is on the Duckstation emulator since it has an overclock feature that fixes FPS issues.
PC is almost the same as PS1 though, you get an equally good experience from both of them
Too many people bashing these ports when the fixes are right there, good stuff dude, people saying things like DON'T BUY THESE TRASH PORTS!!!😡, And I'm like calm down
I get the complaints and some are honestly really valid and bring good perspectives to the table. Others kinda shut down at little changes and dismiss it for small minute changes. Which...i understand too but shit some people get way too pissy for small reasons

2020 only made it bad because of labor workers and construction men parking illegally by and also the loss of loved once adding the stress on top of it.
Hence why it was a hell of a shitty year.
Konami is literally just sitting on cash. Just put some effort into a MGS HD collection for Steam. They could print money.
To be fair we don't know why due to possible licensing. But regardless of steam or GOG still good its accessible there. Actually its better on GOG due to no DRM.

New mods make it a complete 360. Unironically is the best way to play now.
People are really trying to over complicate remasters these days.
It's simple. Higher resolution, higher frame rate, upgraded aspect ratio, and ported to all systems. S I M P L E.
I'm guessing bugs always appear here and there so nothing is straightforward. On top of that Integral was specifically made for older hardware so won't have the amenities of newer ports
I prefer to just play The PlayStation version. Classic.
