I live in France and my French is not good so was very interested in this translator once i seen you using them but after looking on the site it doesn't explain how long the fish card last's for, is it for one year or is it for the life time of ownership ?

I'm looking at sushi restaurant. Yummies! Trek to China sounds tiresome n bother. Zero interest after watching Japan!!! And your SUPER guide ,Ryan & do!

@@dazzanomas9418I looked but ,same as, it's too confusing. I don't purchased online if I can avoid it . This is the problem with people not supporting local stores, where you can walk in and have someone who understands the product SELL IT to you! I'd pay extra for that.
Good tip is carry a notebook/ pen with what you've learned so far, then write down every single new word or sentence and learn it.
Each day new, plus there's always the unpredictable translator apps online to fall back on. Some good ones, specific to region.
      Poco, poco!!!!

It's strange how all 'adventures' when things don't go to plan or it gets a bit hairy are the most vivid memories you look back on. At the time the sense of achievement when you make it though is amazing. I guess that's why they become intense memories. Rural Japan is incredible. Enjoy.

It's so interesting that different cultures have similar universal customs: smiling, sharing foods, and speaking a quick toast before a tipple, etc. There really is so much to unite us across the world!
According to Google Lens, the sign at the turn off is headlined "To All Local Fishermen (Request)" -- at least it wasn't a road warning. 😂Seeing the workmen waving hello was a relief, I must admit! About "a few not so delicious foods" I do agree with you as a fellow Turk, that kokorec will always remain as "sheep's intestines" in my mind. I wish I had never known before I eat it. You can make anything delicious with the right spices, garlic, pesto sauce or chocolate sauce. An escargot would taste good when it is buried in pesto sauce of course, but it is still a snail. I don't care about what I am missing.

I once went on a house-hunting trip in Ireland, using a Vauxhall Astra van which I was using as a makeshift camper. It was before the days of satnav and a lot of the little white cottages were very hard to find. There was no rear or side windows so I only had the door mirrors. I went down one narrow lane with fuchsia hedges both sides. It got gradually more overgrown until eventually it was too narrow to carry on. At this point I could only reverse but both door mirrors were embedded in the hedges so there was zero visibility!

Too bad you can't get your vehicle shipped to Australia, cross/explore the country, then maybe get the van shipped up to India or Malaysia. At least you could avoid China. Especially considered that they have severe flooding at the moment.

Thanks for sharing! Quite an adventure isn't it? The Japanese host are very kind and hospitable, actually it may be consider rude to use the chopsticks and point towards anyone besides using it to clamp the food. If I am wrong, I hope someone can correct me.

I don't understand since: you can "download languages to use offline. You can download languages onto your device. This lets you translate them without an internet connection.
After you’ve downloaded a language, you could be able to translate it by looking at it through your device's camera lens.

Wow I never knew Marianne spoke French and so well.
My mother was Québécois and I lost most of my French. Now I live in Ottawa and speak Spanish 😘
Unfortunately it’s hard to learn French here. The French is Québécois French, also known as Hillbilly French!

Shall I use those ear buds with Yujiro??? nah... maybe I don't want to know about his long, involved stories ;-) Beautiful mountain drive, I had the same experience in Wakayama years ago...turning was areal nail biter! But I since heard there is a way to set Google maps so it only shows routes that your vehicle will fit on. maybe worth checking out! I SO hope you go the China route - hopefully the government guide will speak English and you'll have an amazing experience.

Hey guys. I am very excited for you to tread the globe through China. Ten years ago we went from Beijing down to Shanghai over to Zhangjiajie up to Luoyang then over to Xinning and then into Tibet to Lhasa then down into Nepal via Mt Everest. It is not the easiest travel in the world but the roads are well pave. It is smart to have a guide with you either on Trudy or to follow behind. Mostly because of the check stops. They don't have photo radar but instead have check stops every 4hours or so of driving. If you arrive too soon there's a penalty for speeding. Also for hotels as most do not accept foreigners. Hotels must be aware of you coming so they can have the appropriate paperwork which they forward to local police. Not sure how it will work with you staying in your camper van but I'm going to assume every time you pull over for the night some paperwork will have to be forwarded to the police so they know where you are staying. It's not a big deal to comply but non-compliance will result in some sort of penalty.

Chat. Most people don't carry wallets. Only their phone

BTW, 3 months in China and we never got sick once. 5 days in Nepal had it coming out all holes. China is extremely safe. You can leave Trudy unlocked anywhere and it will never be touched. Leave a diamond ring or wallet on a restaurant table overnight it will be there the next morning. They will however overcharge you occasionally. I would highly recommend opening an Ali pay account and put a few thousand in it. Cash is rarely accepted. Credit cards are only accepted in big hotel chains (Hilton or Marriott). Everyone pays by Ali pay or QQ or WeChat. Few people carry a wallet. Only their phone.
