FWIW, I think these plasma cutter are rated for thickness of cut at 10 inches per minute. so, for instance, if the machine says it cuts 3/8 inch. then it should cut 1/2 Inch okay, but you'd have to travel slower than 10 inches per minute. I have similar "Cut50" machine and I have cut 3/4 inch thick stock or more. The biggest issue when cutting thicker stock, as I see it, is that the kerf has more of a backwards curve than you'd get with thinner materials.
Glad to see you picked one up. I got one about 7 years ago and used it a ton. If I had to guess I would say over 150 hours of actual cutting. Already went through one torch and still going strong. One thing I would suggest is to make a protective sleeve for the torch hose/lead. Slag burns through the one it comes with very easily and will put a hole in your hose. I bought a cheap cloth fire blanket and the wife seed it into a sleeve. Works like a charm.

The prices on these things are so good. My plasma cutter was $2500. Twenty years ago and there’s nothing special about it I could buy a better one today for 400 bucks easy. The truth is it’s very simple technology it’s an electric arc with air blowing through it And they should be this cheap. That one may not be industrial enough to run a business off of where you’re using it all day every day but for most people this would be fine and it’s awesome. I’ll be right now like 150 bucks isn’t much, I’ve spent more than that on cutting wheels😂
I can also tell you from a lot of experience and most of the old-school guys with tons of experience say the same thing. The power setting is almost useless. Turning it down will save you a tiny bit of electricity but as far as performance goes unless I’m cutting very thin Metal very precisely I just crank it up. Once you get up above sheet metal you just want to cut it as fast as possible and just get what you’re removing out of the way corner and I find it’s better to keep from hitting the metal a lot like you’re gonna do when you’re cutting slowly end it can cause it to warp. Just crank it up and rip through it. You can get a tiny bit cleaner edge with a very precise setting but it doesn’t make enough of a difference. Plus it’s a whole lot faster but overall I do it to keep it from warping. The slower you cut the more heat is transferred into the rest of that metal and it can warp. Hand cutting doesn’t make a huge difference but on a CNC plasma it makes quite a bit of difference because you’re doing so much cutting and warping the material is a pretty huge problem and we found the best way to get around that is to just crank it up come on the cut you’re doing it’s hotter but you’re spending way less time heating the rest of the metal up.
Thanks for the review. I am thinking about a plasma cutter and this helps. No air tool comes with an air chuck due to the variety of different ends used. I am glad an air chuck is not included. If you need a large volume of air, you have to go to 3/8" chucks whereas the common one is 1/4" and that can restrict the power of a pneumatic air hammer or impact gun. PLEASE NOTE: the adapter you have listed is a problem for anyone not knowing. It would be possible to use with any 110 powered fan, electric saw or drill, drop light or any appliance and then plug it into a 220 outlet, instantly frying the component turned on and possibly causing personal injury or a fire. Imagine your child or wife looking for a short extension cord. I will not have something like this in my shop for the danger it presents. That does not pass any code in America and it is better to add a dedicated plug and a length of proper sized wire than to use something like this. There may be a Vevor Plasma Cutter in my inventory in the very near future. Thanks for the demonstrations.
I agree should be 240v out the box and adapter for that to 120v is safer
That’s nice to have that metal guide on the tip to help keep a constant distance from the material. I know the ones I’ve used in the past also recommend you use hearing protection when using it due to the extreme high frequency sounds the torch makes when in operation . Your going to love using it with your up coming stair build.

That can be a game changer for the DIY’r. I’ve used many industrial type plasma torches and that thing looks comparable to them. I really like that stand-off. Half the battle with a plasma and a clean cut is keeping the right distance. Really like that. Try it without it and you’ll see what I mean, if you haven’t already. Lol.

When you demonstrated the pilot arc it looked intermittent, this is an indication that your tips may not be fully tight, on non pilot arc machines its an indication of a bad earth connection,, its always good practice to do a quick grind where the earth clamp will connect. A good tip, keep an eye on where the sparks fly, they should go straigh down, if the angle starts to lift towards the front means your travel speed is too fast, to the left or right your gun is not straight(or your tip is worn out after a lot of use)
Worn or loose tips for sure knock the arc out. It's great with fresh consumables.

@@TKCL I was a heavy welder for the DoD for 4 years and used an electric track cutter (for gas cutting) I bet that or an inexpensive - Home grade - router based 3D cutter you could adapt this right to it. for under $600 and have CNC quality parts!!! Let me know if you need info to send you in the right direction.

A problem with the power cord is that it’s a 15 amp plug. That will blow most breakers on 120 v lines. It should have a 20 amp plug. I know that would frustrate some users. But if the have a modern 12 gauge wired circuit, then they can easily change the outlet to a 20 amp version. Be careful with that adapter. I know you won’t screw up, but it’s surprising how less experienced people will plug a 120 v device into it, forgetting what it’s for. Labeling the 120 v end with a large sticker stating “240 v plasma cutter ONLY”, will help. I’m curious as to what the amp readout says when connected to 120 v 20 A. Since 120 v 20 A is 2,400 watts and a plasma cutter usually has about 90 to 100 v output, that’s a max of 27 A at 90 V output, or 24 A at 100 V output. When turned up that/s what the readout should say, depending on the voltage output. If it still says 50, then it’s not reading output at all, just numbers from 0 to 50. Most cheap models do that, unfortunately.
The second this is your air line. From what I saw, that line is tearing right at the ferrule. At some point, it’s going to blow. If you can replace that connector, then please do it. A wild air line is a frightening thing. I’d say to just replace the entire air line, but it’s part of a winder. Still, if that part is damaged, it could be drying out in other p,aces.

Hi Andrew, I love your channel and the amazing content. One thing that concerns me is the adapter you use on your plasma cuter that converts 220v to a designated 120v outlet. It can be quite dangerous if a person should accidentally plug another 120v device in the adapter should it be left plugged in the 220v plug.
Was looking as plasma machines, really glad you made this. I’m no pro and only want to make tree stands, I think this unit could be a good fit for me.

I think you do amazing work at everything you do. The quality of what you make is always better than anything that can be bought. You ought to take a look at the trestles on Paul Sellers channel. His design would allow you to replace your rickety wobbly saw horses with something that is rock solid and can be easily and quickly made from scrap wood. Using that awesome plasma cutter on a more stable work platform can't hurt Love the channel. Still working my way through all of the videos, up to #503 now.
I'm eventually building a awesome welding table, waiting for steel prices to drop.

Great Video!! Pilot Arc is also whats needed for a Plasma CNC. Guess that might be in your future. Check out the ArcDroid if your interested in a plasma cnc.

The flex volt for option is pretty cool. I see that on a lot of the new computer controlled welders. It would be really nice sometimes. All my stuff is 220 and it’s a pain because right now I don’t even have a 220 plug in my garage and we’re moving in the next few months so I’m not gonna bother But Harbor freight sells the green one, I don’t know if that’s the Viking or not but it’s between eight and $900 and it’s multi voltage and almost the same specs as my Lincoln and I thought of getting one just because I could run it off of 110. I’ve heard really good things about the multi voltage modern stuff and even a lot of old-school welders that use them like it. I haven’t use them at all so I can’t really say but I like what I see.
I had purchased a plasma cutter from yeswelder and the very first thing I done was cut that 120 plug off and replaced it with a 240 plug thus preventing anybody from getting killed plugging a 120 into a 240. Also just received the tig 250p also from yes welder and it came with the very same setup so today pulling it out of the box is the very first thing I done again was cutting the 110 plug off and replacing it with a 220 volt plug.
No risk, these are voltage sensing units. They know the difference between 120 and 240.
@@TKCL pretty sure they are talking about that adapter that makes 220 available in a "standard 120v looking" outlet. And what that might do if you plugged anything else in to that plug adapter cord. Your 120v angle grinder might be real powerful, for about 8 seconds.
Ahhh I see yes that would be a problem. Luckily for me I'm the only one working in my shop.
That adapters exactly what I'm talking about. You know you might have somebody that doesn't know any better looking for an extension cord around your shop see that hanging out of the wall and think oh well there's an extension cord we can plug a fan in or a radio or whatever and that can lead to a bad situation.
One thing you didn't mention that's a huge plus with a plasma, is that it will cut aluminum and stainless. Can't do that with a torch. Nice purchase.

Cool Video! ! I have never had a Plasma cuter (Always wanted one) But I do a lot of electrical work Residential & Commercial an i gota say That Power cord Looks Way to small to handle 40-50 amps ! I would about Bet It Gets Hot as satan's Balzz ..50amp should be a #8 wire technically But i do realize its not a 24/7 load either & it very well just may look that small on camera to i dono..But just in case i would keep an eye on it for a bit...a lot of shops has burnt down on that very reason n my area !

It does look small, but what I didn't show in this video was me checking all cords and connections throughout the cutting process, never got hot. 🤷
Also don't push down on the torch. Just barely touch the metal.

Would you say it is capable of say effectively cutting a 4' wide sheet of 3/8 mild steel in half or best kept for small cutting jobs?
You would most likely hit the duty cycle and require a cool down on such a long cut. I'd say stick to shorter cuts.
The Milwaukee metal circ saw is nicer to use in my opinion cleaner cuts and no cords

I was running a big 80 gallon 240 volt compressor. Not needed for this plasma.

Good job. Question, can it cut without the "hold-off" attached if you have something you need to get close to an edge or curve? Also will 14 gauge extension cord work or should I have 12 gauge?
The thicker the cord the better. I'd always use 12ga for 110 volt on anything like this. The hold off isn't necessary, but will keep you from damaging the tip and extend its life.
Put a canister filter on the plasma to help extend the life of tips and electrode.
Explain? I've already got a water filter at my tank.
on your plasma, moisture from your air compressor will erode the electrode and nozzle
@@TKCL check with your local welding supply they can set you up with a filter.
Read above 👆... I already have moisture canisters on the exit side of my air compressor.

I’m looking at vivohome 3in1 but they hold back on non touch info. Scares me.,but the switch for foot peddle for tig. I don’t do much but I think the peddle switch might be a plus for $289. ??? Or do I need that peddle switch. ???

So hard to say, depends on how long you cut. I'm running a bigger 60 gallon 240v compressor. I feel confident those 120 volt larger roll around compressors could run it. Air is your friend with plasma cutting.
How large of 220 circuit is required to run that thing?
I think at least 30 amps. In and out don't seem to match up.

Only dangerous to the person who doesn't have a clue that there is 240v on them. I don't have that risk working by myself in my shop. If you have that risk, be smart and lock up your plug.

The only downside to these little cutters is the duty cycle.
Have to disagree with you there, watch this video ua-cam.com/video/BXOeWuT2Ei0/v-deo.html. Over 10 feet of cutting 3/8 steel and I never hit the duty cycle.
How do you think it'll do cutting "LP" tanks for fire pits ?
That's going to be the ultimate duty cycle test. I don't think it will keep up on the big 3/8 inch steel tanks without a cool down period. We shall see!
