Thanks for the yeswelder plasma cutter. As a result I ordered that same unit directly from Yeswelder as they had a promo code giving a 30% off an already lower price, plus free shipping. I am new to the metal works, having been an accomplished woodcrafter for over 30 years. Thought it time to do something I’ve always wanted to learn. Being 78 your never to,old to learn. Thanks again I am a huge fan of your channel. Signed The Old Student!
@Bruce Pugsley thanks for your support man I appreciate it! AWESEOME score on your plasma cutter! You are going to have a ton of fun! I'm 51 and I still learn new things every day. It would be boring if we didn't. I worked with wood for a liitle while and I have to say you are going to love the transition - Hardly no dust equals a clean workshop. If you make a mistake, just add metal. Much easier than wood in my opinion. Enjoy your new purchase and thanks again for your support! 🙏👍
I have tremendous respect for people who explain how things are SUPPOSED to be done(and why), while also explaining how things CAN be done(and why not). It’s more information overall, but I think it should definitely be the norm. It’s the worst when people just tell you to do something, especially when it’s the latter, and only works in some situations, so you get to a different situation and wonder what the hell’s wrong.
Just watched this video again (maybe the fourth time?😳) It is such a good comprehensive video with all of the pertinent information you need. No annoying music is a huge bonus. Just clear concise info from a guy that cares! Bravo!
I have never used a plasma cutter but by watching your instructional video I think it would be worth a try! Have used a oxy-acetylene torch and an air arc and now all I have to cut steel with is a cut-off disc (4.5")or a sawzall since I retired. Thank you for putting your videos on youtube for us to learn from!
Im a retired engineer. Always wanted to learn welding and plasma cutting , it would be helpful with some new hobbies I have planned. You're an excellent instructor and have a new subscriber here
This guy is a very good instructor explains everything in great detail the best video out there for plasma cutting for beginners thanks man you make the best videos
Love your videos. As a former teacher you do an excellent job addressing all learning styles. Students pursuing a vocational/trade school education would benefit from your experience and teaching ability. I recommend your videos to all students interested in welding.
Plasma Cutter! Where have you been all my life? What a wonderful tool. The contortions I went thru to remove some metal are now a distant memory. Thanks for filling in the unknowns and teaching me some technique. Your video is great for rookies like me.
Thank you, Brandon - extremely well presented, no waffling, no nonsense. Clear demonstration of basic operations. Not planning on cutting armour plating here, but for "normal thickness metals a small unit looks like a worthwhile investment. No angle grinder noise, and NO dust. Thanks again - will hit "Subscribe" in a second 😊
Got one a few months ago and glad I did. I used to go through so many cutting wheels. Bit of a learning curve to this like anything else, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of it.
Once again you have come to my rescue! Hadnt used my plasma cutter for quite some time and as a result I had forgotten everything about it! Your video brought all the info I needed to go at it again. Many thanks!
Thank you Brandon for this video. Much appreciated. I just purchased a plasma cutter and am a novice at using one. Your video is very informative and gives a lot of information that I will be using with my plasma cutter.
Great video tutorial. I just bought a Vevor Cut50P because I had a lot of 1/4" plate to cut for a project. My pancake compressor ran all the time so I added a 5-gal portable tank and now my compressor usually remains off until I'm finished with the cut. I really appreciate your table of amps, air and material thickness. Nothing like it in my owners so it's a big help.
Brandon, just a follow up on my plasma cutter. It was interesting. I have a CUT 50P that I got about three years ago. I took your ideas from you video and I found two problems. 1. The electrode was nice and tight but the electrode cover was a little loose. 2. Where the plasma cutter torch connects with the actual machine was quite loose. I tightened it up. After that, my plasma cutter works great. I haven't had any problems getting the plasma part starting up after the high frequency starts and I'm close enough to the material I'm cutting the plasma comes on and I'm cutting. So thank you very much. Watching you welding and plasma videos have been a great help in learning to fabricate metal.
Hey, Brandon: A hearty hello from Austin, Texas. I wanted to say that UA-cam is filled with junk and guys going on and on about nothing but your video is one of those that's like an oasis in a desert. Thanks for your time and knowledge...probably the best 30 minutes I've spent in a while.
What a great video❤ thank you so much❤ I'm an old man who has been welding since the 70s and I'm helping a neighbor with a fence project and they have a plasma cutter brand new in the box and I've never used one❤
Yeah, I'v ruined saw blades and drill bits when using bed frames for welding practice, now I use the plasma cutter and can use it to punch bolt holes or cut the frames. Thanks for your video it is a great one.
Thanks for these lessons, they are so informative. I'm about to buy my first plans cutter today. I would not feel prepared without your lessons. Thanks again.
@ hope you can show more video on welding Rusty suv frames repairs , I’m working on my rusted frame 2003 Lincoln Navigator, you can show step by steps on repair and Etc.
Very good information for the beginner. I welded pipe, stick, MIG, and TIG, for almost 30 years, but never used a plasma cutter. When I started of course, no one had even heard of a plasma arc. But I just bought an Arc Captain Cut 50 so your video is very helpful to me. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to clearly explain this process. It's so hard to find good videos on UA-cam that actually give you some real knowledge. I really appreciate your video.
Im a newbi here with my first plasma cutter, one comment when cutting out a shape or shortening a piece of metal, use the guide clamped to the part you want to keep. The guide will protect the piece from any wobbles like the demo cutting angle iron, the guide was on the wrong side and his vertical cut took out metal from where it was needed. 2nd tip. Want to cut a perfect round hole. Get a thick washer and center it over the place for the hole. Just weld it through the center to the base metal, then using the plasma cutter, go around the washer keeping gentle pressure against the washer and down on the job. The hole will be perfect if you keep the tip vertical. The washed dia plus the tip diameter equals the hole size. Its that simple.
I love the peripheral information!! I also use bed frame and have always wondered what made it harder than mild steel but it's also more resilient, springy.

Anyway your an asset to UA-cam and to us guy's and girl's that want to learn new and useful stuff. Thanks alot have a great new year😊
I appreciate your comment very much. I started welding at a very young age. Taught by a pipe fitter and just ran with it. I've been welding non professionally for nearly 40 years and have been in construction for about the same duration
Great video Brandon! To help with the consumable tip wear and easy straight lines I picked up a guide that slips over the gun tip and has 2 little wheels that lift the tip slightly away from the surface you’re cutting. Also comes with an attachable rod that you can cut perfect circles with. I am NOT in any way associated with this company but I purchased mine from Eastwood tools.
Thank you for taking the time to give a good overview of a plasma cutter. I've been doing home welding projects for years and use a lot of bed frames for things like garden carts. I was tired of the mess with cut off disc's and ordered a similar plasma cutter. Just wondering why you don't use the wire clip on stand off guide. Very good content and explanation of the features and use.

I have watched this video probably 10 times...thank you so sp much for being so thorough...I just purchased an older model apparently....65 ds...instructions HA HA!!!..this is basically same!! Thanx!!!
This is a VERY good educational video and a thorough introduction to plasma cutting. Best I've seen and I've been watching a lot of these over the last couple days. Thanks Brandon Lund!
Thanks for this informative video. Finally i have the answers i was looking for. How to adjust the plasmacutter and how to actually cut with it. More precisely how to aim and if i am supposed to touch the material with the torch or let it hover above. (different types of torches) Great video and thanks again. 🙂
Brandon - like your vids. As a pro you spend time on safety issues, which is admirable. Your vid is a "beginners guide". As careful as you were to go into safety issues you were not careful with your placement of the ground and feed lines of your plasma torch. In fact at 26:0027:00 you were gouge cutting and throwing showers of sparks all over your leads and your plasma machine. At the first plasma cut too. Your spark flow was right onto the torch lead on the floor. Just like oxy/ace cutting you don't want those sparks flying all over your shop. Maybe amend video to also instruct a beginner to keep their leads, and anything else that could be damaged or catch fire, out of the way of the sparks. Hate to be critical, but where those sparks go is VERY important. Remember, I may not be a beginner, but you're attracting beginners with your vid title. (signed: plasma police ;-)

Thanks! Bought s cheap plasma cutter off Amazon because I am drilling out some stainless metal boxes and was tired of burning out bits and how long it was taking. Getting the hang of it but the amp chart will be handy!
@@BrandonLund Thank you! They are labeled "clear". In the UA-cam, yours look tented. Are the clear ones the correct ones? Thanks again for all this very valuable information.
Yet another great video. I was worried you had stopped riding your motorcycle. Glad to see you are just specializing. I wasn't aware you could gouge with a "consumer level" plasma cutter. Hyperthem has a setup with special tips for gouging. Glad to see it can be done with a normal machine. I was looking at magnetic torch guides earlier today. They appear to be one of those things they charge more for just becase they can. $100 for 2 or 3 magnets and 18" of angle iron seems high to me. I think I will slap some magnets on a free after rebates Menards aluminum yard stick and try that out.
Great demonstration!! At this time I simply justify the expense of a plasma cutter when I already have many other options I’m my shop. Maybe in the future.
You have explained so beautifully, so clearly and subtly even the smallest things so clearly, it is a great help to people like us. We kindly ask you to post a lot more videos like this. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to you for growing even more.
You can buy gouging tips for the plasma cutter that directs the air to assist with the gouging process. George's plasma cutter shop has all kinds of tips for various plasma cutters including some of the China and Harbor Freight ones. His tips are made in Italy and top of the line. He knows more about plasma cutters than most folks. Great video BTW.
Very good video, you are a great teacher. I have a question about plasma cutting and I can't find an answer. Maybe you can help me. I have a 200 amp TIG welder, can I convert it to a plasma cutter? Or is that impossible? I am looking forward to your answer.
Many still don't know where it is, but l am glad you google(d) it. 😆 It's a very small country with a population just less than a million. Thank you and keep inspiring.
Thank you for sharing !! Many videos don’t show how start cutting ie touching or must have gap.. you explained it finally!! Thanks!! I just purchased one and it’s full 220 volts and does up 1/2 inch thickness. 45 years using oxy/avg torch. This is my first. 😁

$100 for 2 or 3 magnets and 18" of angle iron seems high to me.
I think I will slap some magnets on a free after rebates Menards aluminum yard stick and try that out.
Thats an awesome idea!
Excellent illustration !!!!!
Thank you!
Thank you for being so thorough !
You are so welcome!
Many thanks. Just the tutorial that I needed.

Great demonstration!! At this time I simply justify the expense of a plasma cutter when I already have many other options I’m my shop. Maybe in the future.
Thanks man. They have their place for sure.
Thanks Brandon. Always great information
My pleasure!
You have explained so beautifully, so clearly and subtly even the smallest things so clearly, it is a great help to people like us. We kindly ask you to post a lot more videos like this. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to you for growing even more.
My pleasure 😊 That is so nice of you Thank you! @Tamil Birds
Very well done. Thanks for the awesome vid.

Great video. Any tips for cutting stretch steel or grates?
A Circular Saw/ metal cutting saw works real well for this
Excellent video. Thanks I am at the 101 stage
Thanks for sharing! Im sure this will help not only me but many more! 👍🙏
Very good video, you are a great teacher. I have a question about plasma cutting and I can't find an answer. Maybe you can help me.
I have a 200 amp TIG welder, can I convert it to a plasma cutter? Or is that impossible? I am looking forward to your answer.
Thank you very much! As far as converting the machine to a plasma cutter, I dont believe it's possible without completely rewiring the machine.
Thank you for sharing. I just ordered the same plasma cutter. Looking forward to working with it. Great video.
Thanks man and congratulations, you are going to love it!

Thank you very much! I wasn't positive where Bhutan was located to I searched google maps. You live in a very beautiful country!
Many still don't know where it is, but l am glad you google(d) it. 😆
It's a very small country with a population just less than a million. Thank you and keep inspiring.
Thank you 🙏
That was an excellent demonstration. So much so that I've subscribed and I don't even have a plasma cutter...
I guess thats probably one of the best compliments i could have been given and very much appreciated! Thank you @John🙏👍
Thank you for sharing !! Many videos don’t show how start cutting ie touching or must have gap.. you explained it finally!! Thanks!! I just purchased one and it’s full 220 volts and does up 1/2 inch thickness. 45 years using oxy/avg torch. This is my first. 😁
You’re welcome 😊 Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Brandon, just got my Plasma unit into the shop and found your direction and explanations very helpful, much appreciated.
Glad to help Alan. Thanks for your support
Thanks, bro. Start to finish this was great. Can you explain a bit more how the psi is regulated? I think I got it, but just in case
Thanks man! On the back there is a little knon you tighten or loosen to raise or lower the pressure
@BrandonLund but while that is being done, a button (on your machine it has an arrow) has to be pressed to adjust? It won't adjust otherwise, right?
Very nice video sir how loud is this compared to an angle grinder? Please let me know sir thank you. 🙏
It's a little less loud I think but it's also at a different tone / pitch.
@@BrandonLund thank you I appreciate your reply ❤️
Excellent, detailed, and informative explanation! Talented teacher!
