For me, this is the best arrangement of any Christmas song, ever. It was created by Adam Rupp, the vocal percussionist. I just saw them do this in concert and it was just as mindblowing. What a great intro to them for you. To hear a master class in harmony, try their version of How Great Thou Art and/or Helplessly Hoping. No percussion, just 5 pure voices. But, actually, you could start anywhere in their catalog and not be disappointed. Happy holidays!

I never cared for this song and would tune out when it was on but I LOVE THIS VERSION!!! I listen to it once a week or more even in the summer. Adam's arrangement is absolutely phenomenal!!! The guys said this is the most complicated arrangement they've ever done. Now on a note that tells how personally wonderful they are as people. I was supposed to see them in concert last night but the artic storm hit and I couldn't go. They asked for my info and when I emailed it to them I got an email telling me they had added me to their guest list for the next time they're here. They are trying to help the fans who were unable to attend because of the weather. Most groups would just take the ticket money and say oh well. There is no group musically or personally better than HF. Loved your reaction.

I would love to hear you react to Two Country Singers Try Singing Opera Nessun Dorma... The bearded wonder, Rob Lundquist, will astound you. Rob has the ability to change both his timbre and placement to provide the perfect blend. Often he uses that pingy forward bright timbre with Home Free, but he can also go full gospel or opera. (He was trained in opera.)
I LOVE these guys. For Christmas, Angels We Have Heard on High...

My favorite acapella group because, as you said, each unique voice is distinguishable, if you listen for it, yet they all blend to create something amazing. They sing many different genre and have no designated lead singer, but all take turns when their voice best suits the song. Since you expressed a special love of low voices, I would strongly recommend their cover of Dire Straits', "Brothers in Arms."

  • @purpleir

I am so happy you like them! Yayyyy! 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Ok a little more info about them.
The beatboxer (Adam Rupp, can produce any sound you can imagine) created the band with his brother Chris Rupp ( the baritone guy with the hat). The rest of them joined in stages.
Austin Brown (long wavy hair) is the high tenor
Rob Lundquist (glasses and beard) is also a tenor though everyone assumes he is the bass at first 😝
And of course Tim Foust ( mainly bass/subterranean and every other vocal position as well) is the guy with the straight long-ish hair. He has similar range to Geoff Castelucci but different tone.
Chris has left the band a few years now and was replaced with baritone Adam Chance (they call him just Chance because 2 Adamses 😝).
If you want to hear a little bit of Chance and some more Tim I would recommend their Cover of Brothers in Arms.
They also have a lot of different Christmas ones (for next year maybe😛) like "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" 😝 and as Tim says their tinder Christmas original "Full of cheer" 🤣 They are normally hilarious.

    • @nightthornkvala94132

Full of Cheer was written by Tim Foust (bass) and is considered a followup to Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget. Austin Brown's Christmas song is Cold Hard Cash. Those two, as well as Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer are hilariously funny.

Home Free is so good. The beatboxer Adam Rupp, arranged this. Home Free doesn’t let him do that too much as his arrangements are so complicated. Tim Foust, is the bass, and was the first singer. He has a 5 octave range so he can sing super low and then sing up with the tenors. They are known for great harmonies. They have been writing a lot of original songs lately. They have some great Christmas music, Mary Did You Know, Angels We Have Heard on High, O Holy Night, Silent Night. Have a wonderful Christmas!

Super atmospheric intro, the 4 octaves in 4 seconds round is such a fun flex, Tim's bass work is great (as always), Austin busts out an amazingly accurate quacky Strat-NO-caster funk guitar line (crazy!), & that Stevie Wonder -esque key twist 3/4 in is #ChefsKiss!! So much to keep the ear entertained. Adam (the beatboxer) deserves some kind of award for creating an arrangement this special from a much less interesting original. :)

Please, please go down the Home Free rabbit hole. Go listen to Tim Foust’s solo stuff. He floored me with his bass notes, but he’s so much more than that. He can sing tenor effortlessly, which floored me even more. He can do runs in all of his registers. Falsetto? No problem. Rob is trained in opera, and I personally think he has perfect pitch. He seems to keep everyone “in line.” Austin is trained in musical theater and is just a beautiful man and a beautiful person. Adam is a world champion beatboxer. Human drum kit. When I saw and heard this for the first time, I did repeat it a few times. Just amazing.

Tim Foust- Deep Bass, also tenor and everything in between
Austin Brown-High tenor, powerful with his great runs and high notes
Rob Lundquist(beard and glasses)-Tenor, with a voice so warm, rich and soulful. Great wistler
Here it is with Chris Rupp(with hat)-bariton, sometimes bass when Tim had the lead. He started the group 22 years ago with his brother Adam Rupp (the beatboxer). Chris left the group in 2016 for a solo album and other projects such as 7th ave and Cypress Fyre.

First welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. Heres a little history: The group started in 2000 by brothers Chris and Adam Rupp They are the first and only known country a cappela group but they can honestly sing any genre. They won The Sing Off season 4 2013 that's where they became very popular. Fans of Home Free are known as Home Fries .Ok now let's introduce you to the guys: Chris Rupp:Baritone (cowboy hat or other hats) One of the co founders of the group from Minnesota . Left in 2016 to pursue a solo career.Adam Rupp :beatboxer - tenor ( Freak of nature) can make any sound imaginable second co founder also from Minnesota . Austin Brown - High Tenor ( Long Reddish hair ) voice of an angel from Georgia .Rob Lundquist - Lead tenor (beard and glasses) very soulful voice from Minnesota. Tim Foust: Bass (long dark hair now short with grey streak) 5+ octave range from Texas. Adam Chance : Baritone/ Bass ( Chance a because two Adams is confusing ) silky smooth voice replaced Chris Rupp in 2016 has short dark hair and usually wears a backwards baseball hat is from Alabama. There's not a song that you pick from them that is bad ( I haven't found one yet) they do covers and have a lot of original songs to. The group has 5 Tenors,2 Bass, 2 Baritone, 5 beatboxers and 1 freak of nature ( Adam Rupp) and 4 take lead depending on the song Adam doesn’t like to sing he prefers beatboxing he thinks he doesn’t have a beautiful voice and not trained like the others (But we all know he does) to hear his voice listen to How Thou Art . Just down to earth, humble nice guys As for Christmas music : Full of Cheer, Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer, Warmest Winter, Winter Song, Beautiful Star Of Bethlehem with Jeffrey East and The Oak Ridge Boys, Cold Hard Cash, Away In The Manger, Mary Did You Know, Children Go Where I Send Thee with Kenny Rodgers, Christmas In Dixie with Alabama, Non Christmas songs, End of the Road Boyz 2 Men cover, Road Sweet Road, Cover Me ,Up Helplessly Hoping , Brother , Butts Melody/Remix, Brother in Arms and anything on their playlist Hope this helps Happy Holidays 🎄
I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland my grandparents were both born and raised there came to Canada in their 20’s

For heartwarming stuff, watch "Warmest Winter", "The Driver", "When Will I Be Loved" or "Christmas Ain't For The Lonly". Adam Rupp's (the beat boxer)arrangement of this is absolutely ethereal, creative and complex. Brilliant! I wish Adam would arrange more Home Free. He certainly has a talent for it. They always have such wonderful arrangements. Their producer, Darren Rust does most of their arrangements and he is a genius. I can't even imaging what it would sound like if Adam and Darren collaborated on a song. This song is so beautiful I don't relegate it to just Christmas time. I love how Adam's beat boxing/vocal percussion embodies the very feeling of an icy, cold, wintery atmosphere. Because there are no egos in Home Free, they do what it takes to serve the music and don't try to make the music serve them. Great reaction. Thanks.

So loved your reaction and your analysis to Home Free version of this fabulous song. It was arranged by the beatboxer Adam Rupp, he was co-founder of the vocal group in 2000. I am a new viewer and subscriber to your channel. Crazy about your accent and happy to get to hear some more reactions to Home Free from you. They have a crazy amount of videos to pick from, not a bad song amoung them. They have a huge catalouge of music of most every genre.

The man with the long wavy hair is Austin Brown (originally from Georgia); the man with the long dark hair is Tim Foust (originally from Texas); the man with the beard & glasses (Rob Lundquist), the beatboxer (Adam Rupp) and his brother Chris Rupp (black cap) are all from Minnesota. Both Tim & Austin are song writers and have original songs with Home Free and on their own channels (they both also play piano). Rob's voice will definitely shock you in a duet he has with Austin (on Austin's channel) of the opera aria Nessun Dorma. Thanks for playing this & your reactions & analysis. By the way, I love your Christmas tree earring!

If you follow Home Free for a bit, you will find they are not 5 guys, but rather a single entity. Depending on the needs of the song, each will take the place of the dominant lead for the piece. No single “star”, each supporting the other as needed. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole! It’s deep, and always a beautiful surprise.

Austin (country sounding tenor) definitely has a natural Southern accent, and can pull it out when the song calls for it. But he can also subdue the accent when he needs to. He trained in musical theater in college, so has great ease on stage and in front of a camera.

You were talking about Rob singing with a high larynx... you'd be surprised that he trained in opera 15 years ago and recently sung Nessum Dorma with Austin (country guy, high tenor). Austin sings it in a classical style while Rob sings in an operatic style. So he sounds so much different than he usually does. I'd love to see a reaction to that if you haven't done one already. Thank you for the video. This is one of my favorite songs of theirs.
