Don't see many families sitting round the kitchen table anymore doing fun stuff together. Seems like everyone is self involved in their online/cell phone life. Good job raising your family right. I hope more people find your channel. Keep up the good work!
Doug I enjoy your comments, I find you so entertaining. Your very talented and it appears that your children are too. Your talent also shows up in your nature photos. Kudos to your wife too-the house looks cute also.
These turned out great. I want to compliment you on doing a nice project together as a family. It’s great to see some people out there care to enjoy family time rather than pushing their kids away while they sit on their phones. You’re a great parent. Love this project.
My grandmother showed us how to do these years ago. I hadn't thought of it in decades. I think we'll give it a go tomorrow night with the kids. Thanks, Doug!
Well from wood to fruit what’s next. You never know with Doug. I like how it evolved into family time with everyone working together. Neat job, great video.
Doug I really like, your carving and camping videos!!! I really love your hunting videos. If you could do some more of those I would really like that and I think a lot of other folks will too. I live in the states. In Tennessee to be exact. Love yours, and joes combined adventures. Thank you for making a disabled man. Happy.

Hello Doug new subscriber from Ohio. Want to thank you Joe, and Shawn you guys gave me the push I needed to get off my butt and out in the woods. Keep up the good work thanks.
Awesome. Great idea and some fall fun with the kids. They looked so cool. Lost art I tell you. Glad you are passing it on to your kids. Thanks! ☺❤ God Bless you and your family.
I remember seeing these shrunken apple heads carved out to look like old people way back in the early seventies; over 50+ some odd years ago. They were sold at an outdoor arts and craft show held at a little teeny little Park. I never seen anything like them. I thought they were kind of neat looking. They were very detailed and look just like older people. At the time, I couldn't figure out how come they didn't rot. Many decades later, I made a few. They turned out great. I said to myself at the time, next time I make these, I'm going to use a much larger Apple; the kind of apple that are usually seen on a stick with tons of caramel and chocolate over it that are usually packed in a crystal clear crispy cellophane wrapper little bag tied with a little bow/ribbon. That way, whenever it does shrink, it'll be a much larger face than a little tiny one. I purchased the larger Apple at a wholesale produce store.
Loved it! Took me down memory lane about 30 years when our children and I made apple head dolls. We had the apple heads hanging from strings in the window for several weeks until they were dry enough to make into dolls. So fun!
Love it. Doug- you can also add lemon or lime juice to water. Or apple cider or white vinegar. All will work well to stop the acceleration of browning.
Excellent job! I remember when I was a kid, my uncle made one of those. It sat on my grandmothers kitchen window sill for a while. His did turn brown which gave it more character. I like how dolled up yours became.
Loveing your carving 'studio' ! Those shrunken heads look great! My daughter and I make and then float them in a 'cauldron' of apple cider and serve warm drinks to those who stop by on Halloween!
HTG Doug! to you and the family That is so cool! and great healthy down time for the family. Very inspiring for family time together👪 Fall in the north comfort food for the soul Thanks Doug!
I've never in my life heard about shrunken apple heads, let alone seen them. That's hilarious. I have to try that, especially with Halloween coming up. Thanks for the video.
Awe ever so sweet. WTG I love your taste in choices of music for your video's, very unique choices for your video's. Thanks for sharing. Sharing is caring.
Hahaha, those are awesome. Love the creativity and the willingness to try different things, kudos. They really looked great when done up with paint and such then presented on the sticks. Could make a whole centerpiece now with those as the main characters! Perfect for the season and something fun shared with the family. A++ sir~

Lol we use to carve these shrunken heads and hang in the car ....U can put beads or pebbles in their eyes before they dry and when they dry the eyes will be perfect they will get suked behing the apple meat and look like real eyes behind eye lids and cheeks.! then we would put hair on them then shalack em....thanks Doug Doug!!
Doug...on the coastal trekking video from JOE done in June 2017 he describes "DANK" at 18:13ish... Thanks for all the great vids Brother......Paul in Wisconsin

We don't add any paint or deco when we use them as food deco😉 we do let them brown up a bit, which makes the details pop a bit more!
Love this video, they turned out super great. I remember in the 60's doing this in art class.
I used to have one of these kits back in the day, used a lamp to dry out the apples and then add color and eyes and such, pretty cool!
