Thanks Doug…I’m a Canadian living in the US, but i want to say thank you on thanksgiving for all the free content and entertainment you provide. Cheers!
Doug, you should write a book on your 1x1's or on a characture stick study. I love watching your UA-cam videos. I'm a visual learner. Carving is a process not the end product. I believe that this pertains with everything you do in your life. I've searched my dad's workshop for 1x1's, but I couldn't find anything amongst all the scraps of wood that were 1x1. We have a Hobby Lobby and several shops that sell wood. I live in a remote and secluded area surrounded by trees. I've subscribed to your UA-cam channel and get notifications on your carvings.
Doug you just came in again right in the nick of time. Was gonna crave a Grinch right after lunch today and my mind was going crazy about how to do it and look how you saved me again!
I'm sure you have been told before but you are like the Bob Ross of the carving world. You have a calm and pleasant presentation that people can look forward to viewing and your instruction is simple enough to make people want to try the hobby.
I love the Grinch. I think he is my spirit animal as well. I just might do a few of these and put a heart on some of them as well. Thanks for the ispiration Doug Love your vidoes. I teach beginner woodcarving and always tell my students to watch your videos.
Yes, yes, yes! Love your instruction. Fixing your mistakes is brilliant. Many would toss it into the fire. I think your spirit animal personality is more like Max the dog. Lol. Merry Christmas Doug and everyone watching.
Thanks for the kind way you share your talent. You have given me, and I’m sure many others, a great deal of inspiration and hours of fun carving along with you. Be well…
Thanks again for a great little one by one carve. I did have fun making one and will make a few more. Happy Christmas Doug to you and your family. All the very best for the New Year.
I love your tutorials, I can't seem to follow along with anybody else's that I've tried to watch. Hoping you will consider making a little pig character in the 1x1 series someday
Hi Doug... I cannot begin to tell you how much pleasure I have gotten from attempting to carve many of the pieces you have demonstrated here. I often go back to your older videos to try something new. I am retired with aging hands so I work slowly. Painting is usually done by my wife. Thank you for countless hours of pleasure.
Circling back here to this one. I want to scale this down a tad and then make the grinch have the rest of his body. I will use your excellent tutorial for the head and face. Great work as always!
I was on the edge of my seat and audibly gasped when you split that lip, I had the same thing happen last week and now have a large bandage on my finger. Love the Grinch, and once I'm healed up I'll give him a shot
Thanks for doing the videos, you have taught me so much. I started out knife carving several years ago and tried to figure it out on my own. Then went to power carving with dremels and micro motors and then I found your videos and went back to knife carving. Did the grinch it came out really good. Thank you, and please keep the videos coming.
A fun Grinch Christmas project that I enjoyed watching! Liked, liked, liked. Liked, liked, liked. Liked entirely. Double liked! (A little twist on a Grinch phrase). Thanks Doug 🙂
Thank you for providing this content. I enjoyed my first attempt at this project. I have challenged our whole carving group at the senior center to give it a try as well, and I’ll be doing more of this little guy. Here he is before paint. Or not . . . can’t get out to let me share a picture. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Doug.... your a star ⭐ and you have read my mind. 🤔 Was trying to work out how to do one of these guys but I don't need to worry now. Happy Happy Happy! 🏴 😁
Loved this video as always. I had to watch it 3x because it was so relaxing I kept falling asleep. That’s a compliment.. I love the sound made when carving wood.. Thanks Doug! Happy Holidays
Doug you have influenced me the most and I can do fairly good characters but only by following instructions not so much in bedded in my thoughts but I don't get much carving time since spring and I'm preparing a shop in my sunroom for after the garden and other chores are done giving me Big part of December until May for carving I've did good a few board carving Definitely you are a talented teacher with carving skills. I do Blacksmith hobbyist and hopefully I'll send you a couple knives I built but I don't sale but believe my handles are improved over what I've seen on the market and blades of 01 steel of course thin and polished hopefully they don't gather dust wherever they end up. Thanks for helping many people have fun carving. Can't study the video now must go but definitely will review later Doug you are a great person
Great video! I will carve the grinch soon. I just finished carving a duck decoy out of Tupelo. Turned out nice, but I'm "one & done" for duck decoys. Tom Christie gave me inspiration on the decoy & learned lots but I love your 1x1 series.....more fun & less stressful. Merry Christmas to you & your family!
man that's cool, evidently my knife isn't as sharp as yours, or your wood softer or yet, maybe I'm not applying enough pressure on my cuts. Super new at it. your videos are awesome! thanks for sharing
Hi Doug, thank you for all these videos. I carve mostly your stuff. I love the 1x1 series as its easier on your hands. I was wondering if you will be doing any 1x1 carving with tipping the head or turning the head slightly? I think that would be a nice progression with this series to get us learning more techniques. Thank you again :)
Thanks pal. Great video but I have a Big problem now. I really want to carve a truck load of them but it's getting close to Christmas so Wifey has tons of WORK to do. Painting the hall, stairs and anywhere else she can think of. Maybe I might go for a "long soak in the bath"........😂😂😂😂
Hey Doug thanks for everything! Was wondering if you could recommend a brand of chisel/gouges for larger carvings. I’m looking to graduate from small whittles and wanted to get a set to get started?
Doug I live in Canada and I like your videos I am not in your class for sore and I am wondering if a carver would have a better chance of doing a better carving because of the tools he has access to
Hi Doug, really got into your 1x1 series over the past few months and have already carved 7 pieces! Would it be possible for you to make a 1x1 whale video? Much appreciated and Merry Xmas!
That inhale on the upper lip scared me to death. On myself, when I make that noise while whittling, there is usually blood involved. Glad it’s not the same for you. ✌🏻🤍🤞🏽
Thanks Doug…I’m a Canadian living in the US, but i want to say thank you on thanksgiving for all the free content and entertainment you provide. Cheers!
When you show a carving, it makes my day! It gives me another challenge.
Doug you can make a knife sing absolutely brilliant

Enjoy your videos, always great. I noticed you've lost your carving glove.

Amazing as always ❤. Do you have any suggestion for buying cottonwood bark in Canada? Thanks
Cottonwoodbark.com
Hi Doug, really got into your 1x1 series over the past few months and have already carved 7 pieces! Would it be possible for you to make a 1x1 whale video? Much appreciated and Merry Xmas!
My wife said if I carve a grinch it would be like a selfie. 😂
Can this be scaled up to use 1 1/2 in stock? What would the measurements be? Thank you
Thanks! Any Alligators in your future plans?!?
Thanks! No alligators yet lol
Wait!! I have never seen you do that with the eyes...swooping cut?
I have been wanting to do a Grinch, thanks. What ever happened to your affiliation with Woodcarvers Illustration magazines?
I just parted ways with them for various reasons but it’s all good
Hey Doug, what length is the knife? I feel like mine is too short
What she said.
It’s 2” which is far more than you need on the 1x1 but i like it
@ thank you
🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Che legno usi per intagliare??
Basswood
😁👍🏼😁👍🏼
Not seen you for awhile for one reason or another, anyway, where is the winter plumage.
Comes and goes lol
Just a hair different? Hahahaha
Do you find yourself singing the song?
That inhale on the upper lip scared me to death. On myself, when I make that noise while whittling, there is usually blood involved. Glad it’s not the same for you. ✌🏻🤍🤞🏽
Thanks!
