Wrapped up nicely in NEW vintage-style packaging!
QUICK SPECS: 1/25 Scale, 85+ Parts, car assembles to 9 inches long (18 inches long with trailer added). Parts molded in white, clear and transparent red with black vinyl tires. Some parts are chrome plated. Plastic model kit paint and cement required. Paint guide included in kit.
The Chevrolet Caprice is a full-sized automobile produced by Chevrolet in North America for the 1965 to 1996 model years. Full-size Chevrolet sales peaked in 1965 with over a million sold. It was the most popular American car in the sixties and early seventies, which, during its lifetime, included the Biscayne, Bel Air, and Impala.
Introduced in mid-1965 as a luxury trim package for the Impala four-door hardtop, Chevrolet offered a full line of Caprice models for the 1966 and subsequent model years, including a "formal hardtop" coupe and an Estate station wagon. The 1971 to 1976 models are the largest Chevrolets ever built. The downsized 1977 and restyled 1991 models were awarded Motor Trend Car of the Year. Production ended in 1996.
From 2011 to 2017, the Caprice nameplate returned to North America as a full-size, rear wheel drive police vehicle, a captive import from Australia built by General Motors's subsidiary Holden-the police vehicle is a rebadged version of the Holden WM/WN Caprice.[1] The nameplate also had a civilian and police presence in the Middle East from 1999 to 2017, where the imported Holden Statesman/Caprice built by Holden was marketed as the Chevrolet Caprice in markets such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The 1975 models received a new front end with swept-back headlights, revised grille, and turn signals returned to the bumper which also angles backward at both ends. New taillights now wrap around rear fenders. Caprice Classic Sport sedans now feature opera windows in the D-pillars. The dashboard, radio and climate control graphics were revised; the speedometer read up to 100 mph (160 km/h), and had smaller numbers for kilometers per hour. The Caprice convertible would be discontinued after the 1975 model year along with its full-size B-body counterparts including the Oldsmobile Delta 88, Buick LeSabre, and Pontiac Grand Ville. Just about 8,350 Caprice Classic convertibles found buyers in 1975.
As fuel economy became a bigger priority among Americans following the Arab Oil Embargo of late 1973 and early 1974, Chevy made the smaller 145 hp (108 kW) 350 cu in (5.7 L) small block V8 with two-barrel carburetor standard on all Caprice models except wagons for 1975. In California, the four-barrel 155 hp (116 kW) 350 V8 was the base engine and this engine was unavailable elsewhere. Optional engines included the 175 hp (130 kW) 400 cu in (6.6 L) small block V8 (standard on wagons) and 215 hp (160 kW) 454 cu in (7.4 L) big block, the last was not available in California. All engines except for the 454 were single exhaust systems with the introduction of the catalytic converter. Station wagons that used the 454 now featured dual exhaust as well. Also introduced this year were GM's "High Energy" electronic ignition and radial tires that were advertised as part of "Chevrolet's New Efficiency System." The theme of economy continued through to the new options this year: A new "Econominder" gauge package included a temperature gauge and a "fuel econominder".
The 1976 Caprice Classic marked the sixth and final year of a body style introduced for the 1971 model year. 1976 models weighed approximately 4,314 pounds (1,957 kg) and was 222.9 inches (5,660 mm) long, growing considerably from the 1971s 4,040 pounds (1,830 kg) and 216.8-inch (5,510 mm) length.

This build brought back good memories for me. I once had a 1973 Chevy Caprice. I thought this was the best car I ever owned. About 12 years ago at our club open house, we do a sales as well (model trains). Well, one of our club members had a model of my 1973 Caprice! I still have it in the ariginal box unopened. You did a great job on this project, so now I am thinking that it's time to get moving on mine. Also my model came with the trailer as well, so it will be interesting to put another model that I have on the back of it. Thank you again for another great build. I always love watching you work. You have one of the best shows out there. I also like your choice of music!!!

Hey Chris, Nice to be around here again. About 2 or 4 doors issue, in Mexico, the situation was exactly the other way around; the most common model was with 2 doors, and 4 was an oddity. Beautiful build. I remember fairly well, I built the same model long, long ago but from AMT I guess. By the way, MPC is a wonderful, high quality manufacturer located in Ukraine. Maybe it is as good as Tamiya. I built a PT-17 Stearman Kaydet in 1/32 and believe me, no flaws, no flash, no warped pieces and separation of items from sprue never represented a challenge or a problem. As usual, I'm delighted to watch your videos.

You mentioned my pet peeve!!! All the thousands of car models out there and maybe 10-20 4 door models! I mean this Caprice Classic and others are obvious dead ringers for a 4door sedan. But no. Anyway enough of my ranting. I absolutely love your videos and I'm hooked on them. I also love your using "hardware" spray paints!!!😊

The piece that you are curious about (on the same sprue as the dash board) might be a push bar for a race car companion.
Also, a security vehicle might have a push bar on the front as well. Painted as wood grain - might be better in the parts box for use on a pick-up.

I've been looking forward to this build when I saw you had the kit. Back in my model-building days I don't recall ever seeing this in any store. I can say that with some certainty since if I had seen it, I'd have bought it. My dad owned a '76 Impala 4-door so Impalas and Caprices of this vintage hold some fond memories. Imagine learning to drive on something this size!
I share your opinion that it would be great if MPC could retool this a bit and make it a four-door. Since we're in dreaming mode, and I know this would add complexity (the rear wheel fender skirts would have to be removed and the grille would need to be changed) it would make more sense to make the four-door an Impala. Police, fire, taxi... all of those options would be open. Then again, maybe there are police, fire and taxi companies that would splurge on the Caprice.

Sold both Caprice kits with a couple random Cragar wheels for their trailers. 😉

In the past, I built a couple cleanly right out of the box because my painting skills were never that good but I'm still a fan of it. The model was a staple of MPC for years and it's still popular with modelers. Currently, I have a Caprice from 1975 that I bought from a collector years ago and it's the flagship of my model car collection. Super job Chris and you and yours have a great holiday weekend.

This is the same as a 73 Caprice with the tilted trailer that was an annual 73 MPC Caprice came prepainted a Bronze color and the trailer and interior and Chassis were molded in a Medium Brown color, The car actually has a 454 Big Block with a Turbo 400 transmission, I believe they carried this on until 1977 with the last body style which is identical to this one, My dad had a Caprice Classic Landau a 1975, The last year for round headlights, It was a 454 Turbo 400, Solid White with a Burgundy half vinyl top, And for a low rated horsepower 454 that car would move out as big as it was.

Nope, model shows are not my thing. I prefer to build for fun only and share the reviews with my viewers. Thanks!

You certainly get some obscure model kits. Did you ever get the "Unreal" Edsel funny car by AMT? Or the ridiculous "Dodge Revellion" kit by Revell? It was just a 4 door Dart body stuck on a dragster chassis. I had both, in 1971. Should have kept them.

Needs a couple of custom motorcycles on that trailer. Maybe a Dune Buggy? Cool.

Why does the engine look Red is it because of the black primer?

The engine is Chevy Red Orange as described and shown in the painting section. Anything else is just the lighting and camera.

Hey Chris. You can chop the top and have a convertible. Was a production model.

there were a LOT of those cars in the 70s, the caprice was chevy's luxury offering, the impala and bel-air were the workhorses, the bel air would go away in 77, the caprice was quite nice for being an average car, the 454 was a boat anchor, many of these cars went away when the 454 died, though many got 350s installed instead,

This was GM's final full-sized car. The Caprice was Chevy's flagship. The work-a-day model was the Impala or the Impala S, which replaced the base BelAir. So the Caprice had a nice interior and seats. These 2-doors had minimum greenhouse styling, like full-size hatchback styling. GM greenhouse styling sucked, kind of like they were being passive-aggressive, not caring if anyone would buy it, in contrast to the immediate previous styling, where Chevrolet offered two different 2-door styles.

Looks like the unknown piece may be a rear deck spoiler for a custom version.
