@@MacchiatoSwirlGirl Glad someone understands. We get rid of waste products, toxins included. Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and growth hormones are the logical worries, but most folk think no further than those. Some folk have learnt that the hard way.
It’s just common sense ~ cooked food is safer and even healthier for humans than raw. My grandmother could’ve told you that. We’re not cows - our stomachs are adapted for digesting cooked food. That said, of course we should be able to eat some raw things and not get ill, and I am not blaming the parents in any way. They seem like awesome parents. What they are living is a tragedy.
As a recent former Canadian lettuce producer it’s laughable to the difference in picking crew standards we had to adhere to compared to 12 muddy low paid Mexicans huddled over a super sanitary looking conveyer and yet they can import and flood Canadian grocery stores while not adhering to Canada GAP food safety standards. Oh please. You really don't get it when it comes to the food supply. Lettuce in your own home...duh
My heart is broken. This family and the little boy needs justice and I know nothing anyone can ever do now, can make this right. This is not right. He was a healthy, strong boy. My love and thoughts are with you and your family.
Bagged lettuce is a bad deal even with expiration dates I’ve often encountered pieces before the expiration gone bad in the bag
i want to come to Canada to work on the farm
Omg how tragic is Lucas' story! It breaks my heart!
Heart breaking 😞
The workers also go to the bathroom in the fields. Several of my friends here in The West are pickers and laugh about doing their business on the produce. Not funny, I know ...
We had a real problem with that on our farm and now it’s mandatory that they Bring Porta potty’s to the fields. They do their business in the field and then the tractor runs over it you can’t help but get it on the product. Gross but true
Poor little guy!!! He's beautiful.
Why can I not find recent romaine recalls on the Canada recall and safety alert list?
That garden of lettuce is beautiful !
Ugghhh...you never wish that illness on anyone. Hopefully we can look at this and say "you know what? Maybe I SHOULD be growing some of my own food?".
Thank God I live in Europe where food safety is hugely important and is taken very seriously. The EU won't allow US food even enter the zone......
@@suzilouden5964 very smart of them! Lucky!
They don't wash them enough, at least ten times.
Wonderful parents, beautiful boy. A similar incident happened to me and my family back in 80s. We were in Anaheim California for Disneyland, we ate at a restaurant next to our motel. It was all the crab you can eat. That night my wife and I got terrible Ill. We couldn't walk all our muscles were aching so bad, we Spent days in bed.. We didn't know what was wrong thinking it may be a terrible flew. Our son was fin, he didn't eat crab. We seem to come out of our illness, finding out it was food poisoning. We were the lucky ones.
I had a salad with packaged romaine from the US a week ago and It made me sick in 12 hours. Bought them as 3 heads in a package. I think a lot more people get sick and it never gets reported because they never suspect the lettuce.
Just today I bought the same type of lettuce from local supermarket, gonna throw them away.
not me watching this right after finishing my romaine lettuce salad...
same,, just had one last night 😬
I am so very sorry for this family. My heart breaks for them and their precious son.
This is scary. I started buying clam shelled spinach. "already washed, ready to eat" types. Never again.
For that kid, that's no way to live.
Yeah, I never trusted the already washed salad packages. When you do it yourself atleast you know it’s being done thoroughly
I have bought as little as possible of US foods, especially produce since late into 2016. This year 1 celery when I couldn't find Mexican and one container of mixed salad greens because I was having company.
always quickly boil or steam ur vegies before eating, never raw!
Lose nutrients
Hence, why I am a gardener! All organic, all grown by me. Someday processing my own meat, but until then, I know who I locally buy/preorder from.
Besides the fact that hospitalizing their boy while in the USA would have cost a small fortune, why did they wait until back in Canada & the ecoli had ravaged his body for how many days?!
I feel for this boy & his shattered life
& nothing can fix the damage!
They did not know what it was, they were told he was having indigestion issues, so they told them he was gonna be ok, so you have to watch their previous interviews
Totally agree with the old guy , that's bad combination the farm cow on one side and vegetables on the others ,come on where's all the dirty water go to?
People wonder if the dirty water was used to water the lettuce.

thank you for sharing your story i credit your family with saving mine i didnt know and have thrown it all away im so sorry
Good grief. The family just wants to have a good time and their lives got destroyed by a mere American lettuce. God bless to the family.
All produce and fruits need to be washed and rinsed prior to consumption no matter the country of origin. All one needs is a bit of common sense to avoid having intestinal health problems. We are living in the 21st century and is common knowledge.

The boy break my heart made me cry he will be in my prayers 😢😢🙏
Just started some lettuce seeds.
You are in better circumstances than I. I live in a senior disabled apartment complex... they won't let us garden. You are truly blessed. 😀
Tomorrow spring garden gets planted I'm in nj
@@headishome8452 Thats not fair, everyone should have the right to garden if they want, They should organize a community garden for you all. Or even supply transport for you all to go down to a near by community garden once a week. Or you could get a cheeky indoor garden growing in you cupboard. ;)
So sorry for this family. What do they spray on the crops? What type of pesticides and fertiliser do they use?
My poor poor poor baby ...oh dear God in heaven please help this pure little soul ...he's the most innocent precious child. ..😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
We plant our own vegetables, as long as there is a container, soil and space its good
Exactly. I'll take my chances growing a home any day of the week. No pesticides, no animal waste runoff, and certainly no E. coli.
Lettuce put me in the hospital about 7 years ago when I consumed a salad at Red Lobster, and at first I thought it would be undercooked seafood, little did I know it was lettuce
Why haven't you sued Red lobster

Where do the farm workers go to the bathroom? I don't see any portable washroom anywhere in that picture.
Companies have been caught cutting corners. Some of them make their employees go caca on their property.
Where's the nearest toilet for farmhands?
The fields, exactly.
@@MacchiatoSwirlGirl
Glad someone understands.
We get rid of waste products, toxins included.
Toilets for farmhands aren't economically viable, as far as farmers are concerned, so the farmhands do what they have to do in the fields and it transmits from there, especially if folk don't wash the products thoroughly.
Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and growth hormones are the logical worries, but most folk think no further than those.
Some folk have learnt that the hard way.
I can’t even watch. My heart is so broken for this family
Not saying we shouldn’t have high standards but the unfair regulatory/wage/input costs vs American farms will or has obliterated our food security.
