      Dream Chaser is based on the Rockwell HL-20 OML (aerodynamic shape), which itself was based on the Martin X-24A.
      The MiG-105 was shot down over Ukraine last week.

    How interesting. A new reincarnation of the soviet "Spiral"? Well at least it seems to be inspired by that program - look at the nose and wings and the overall composing. Good luck guys!

      based on the NASA / Air Force lifting body X-plane program that Russia copied. Then the US dropped it due to no funding and did the space shuttle instead because the US Air Force wanted a cargo capacity and was paying (extra) into the civilian NASA program so got to dictate what was developed.

      There is some cross pollination there alright. Dyna-Soar inspired Spiral, which inspired HL-20 and Dream Chaser is derivative of that last one.
      Not too much though, it's not like there was too much chance of copy-pasting designs between east and west. And of course, history aside, Dream Chaser is a wholly modern design.

    I've been following Sierra's progress for years. So glad to see Dream Chaser enter the resupply ring, that will only be the beginning of this company reaching their full potential. I personally would like to see Dream Chaser transport people back and forth to the ISS and even the Axiom Space Station.

    Although I'm amazed by reusability, returning crew flights to capsules after the Shuttle program ended felt like a big step backwards. This version is meant for cargo, but I read somewhere that Sierra has manned flights in mind. Bring it on!

    • @nealwright5630
      @nealwright5630 2 роки тому

      I was a teenager when the shuttle was unveiled. I was so excited about it. I even wanted to be an astronaut, going so far as to obtain a nomination to the Air Force Academy. But the shuttle turned out to be unbelievably expensive to maintain, and sending up crew and cargo in the same craft was just a bad idea.

      As long as the interior is shielded I assume it can be outfitted for cargo or people as they like. Climate control systems are probably small enough to fit on any of the capsules these days. Don't think you need too much more if it's just going up and down for the most part, not long duration missions.
      Not sure anyone bothers with long missions outside of the ISS these days anyways.

    • @mikeomolt4485
      @mikeomolt4485 Рік тому

      @@Sajuuk Not wise to ditch proven, reliable hardware just because something new comes along, the real step forward is to maintain both. NASA had no vehicle to send astronauts to ISS after shuttle setbacks, and had to rely on Russian Soyuz capsules.

    Lo and behold, the resurrection of the X-38 lifting body. The X-38 was a NASA experimental lifting body intended as a crew return vehicle from the ISS. The first flight was in 1999, but was cancelled in 2002 due to budget cuts by Congress. Instead, we got the space shuttle, designed by committee. The shuttle was no doubt a marvelous machine, but never quite lived up to expectations.

    Amazing spaceship looks like a personal transport to space. I’m also planning to ride on it 🤔

    Can't believe I've been following the progress of this for 10 years now... Looks like it might get on top of a booster soon!

    A lifting body design with wings that can fold up for trans=sonic flight. An excellent idea, which is on our way to spacecraft which fly like airplanes. Someday, a vehicle like this, only bigger, will carry people to a 200 kilometer orbit for transfer to a true spacecraft. The lower the orbit the vehicle has to achieve, the less weight has to be lifted. Getting to space is the hardest part, after that it is much easier. Going from several kilometers per second to zero is quite a feat, as is the reverse.

    A very late evolution of the X-24.
    Why did it take 50 years?
