Good video! A fire piston, fat wood, birch bark. In smaller fire kits I also use sections of plastic straws, pinch the end with long nose pliers and seal the end closed with a lighter . I keep Vaseline impregnated cotton ball(or part of one) in them. It's waterproof...just cut, fluff and light. I also use short straw sections for triple antibiotic ointment, ect in my first aid kits, especially micro boo boo kits for kids. Antiboitic ointment (NOT cream)is petrolium based and can be used as fire starter in a pinch!!
I like you videos, you are straight forward and you don't beat around the bush when it comes to things. I like that. Keep doing you. I will be ordering quite a bit very soon from you.
I really, really like the small tin on the knife sheath. For me that is the true essence of a survival kit, small lightweight fundamental items that will help you survive.
@blackscoutsurvival my fire lighting kit is- a lighter, ferro rod and striker, cotton wool balls, Lip balm stick all in a very small tin. I find for me I can get a fire going with these items. the lip balm is good to have because if you run out of cotton wool, you can get any kind of tinder and wipe some balm on it and you can get a flame going, just be sure to have all other wood ready and to hand so you can get it on that flame asap.
In my fire kit I have hand sanitiser to use to start a flame with a ferro rod - also Condies crystals and glycerine to start a fire and sugar to mix with the condies to make a friction fire - all in small containers - chemical starter methods - also I have a bit of a file and quartz and char cloth and tampons and lip balm to make fuelled tinder and tampons are good for bullet wounds - so I have many ways to start a fire - Ferro rod, matches, lighter, solar lens, chemical x 3, flint & steel, battery with steel wool for electrical and various tinter material - cotton balls, Vaseline, fatwood, lip balm, steel wool and char cloth. My first go-to is natural tinder but I have back up in case. I also have a candle. I have Flint and steel in case everything runs out and the file will also sharpen my knife or axe. Condies crystals will help with water purification and skin problems as well as make fire.
That's all bad, I am sorry about that! Bad things happen w mace in a hot car too....20+ years later still careful about what goes in the car or on the dash....
can't understand why somebody would hit dislike on your videos. I have notice on the last couple of videos there is always some haters. i guess that is what happens when your doing good. definitely agree on the bright colors. I also have switch over to safety orange on a lot of gear. luv the joke about gasoline and a flare. great kit and video!
+gene smith those losers have nothing else better to do. Thanks for the support. Yeah I love tactical colors as much as the next guy but that stuff is hard to find when you drop it.
I can't understand some these people. Ty for the great videos and info. I wish I could support u guys more at your store but funds are tight for my wife and i. Next year god willing things will be better for us financially. Buying a business next year making good money. I really wanted to purchase one of those survival tins u did. I know u said your not doing anymore but if u know somebody who would like to sale one that would be great. I'm going to try and get on the pre sale for the other kit. The lil extra money i do get i have been purchasing survival summit dvd. They are a great source of info and knowledge. I know buying gear from u guys it's great quality gear and i fell better knowing my family will be taken care of. Thanks again for everything.
+gene smith thanks Gene. Don't worry. We will always be introducing new stuff. We may not make that exact kit. But we will continue to make various kits in the future. I appreciate your viewership and positive comments. Take care
You too. I live down here in Florida so we are getting ready for this hurricane Matthew. Looks like it will be heading your way next. Being ready and prepare is why we do this for situation like this.
I watch all of your post. Big fan of mine for sure. I'm a beginner back packer" not preper". I like watching you rate equipment and gear. Give me an idea what's good and bad with gear that's out there cause I'm coming across a lot of junk gear due not having much money to spend on the good stuff. I'm learning a lot from your videos and I always keep I'm mine your tips and tricks when I'm out in the woods. Thanks for your knowledge. Keeping doing what you do I'm hook on your channel.
One very simple item would be cotton balls smeared with petroleum jelly in a small zip lock or sealed container. Once lit, it acts as a wick for starting fire.
Alcohol covered cotton balls, I don't know the exact burn time but its enough to get your fire going. In a survival situation, the alcohol cotton balls can also be used for wounds.
Video was a great reminder on adding fishing and fire to my knife. Which you video two months ago. Sold me on my newest addition. The OnPoint Tactical. If you have time to take talk about that knife, I'd appreciate it.
Nice kit. I noticed you don't carry the flint-and-steel in your kit anymore. I keep a steel striker in all my kits. Some have charcloth and some don't. I figure I can usually find some flint or chert if needed. Dave Canterbury sells a nice small steel striker that fits anywhere.
I'm sold on the Sagewood sheats and really want one, but they don't make them for Fällkniven knives... I've read that they only make sheats for the knives listed on their "master list"... I want a top quality sheath for my Fällkniven A1 Pro, do you have any suggestions?
Hey Jack, Thanks for the video! Do you recommend the Sagewood sheath over the Hedgehog Leatherworks sheath? What diameter ferro rod loop is the most practical choice for the Sagewood? Thanks for any info you can kick back to me. Semper Fi brother!
Probably a stupid question, but if all your gear is one pouch, do you feel that increases the chance of losing ALL your firemaking gear? I really enjoy your videos and learn a lot from them.
And I'm not questioning your choices as much as trying to understand. I know what I would have done, trying to adjust my thinking to avoid stupid mistakes.
+Allen Anderson they make the most comfortable clothing for the outdoors. I know the price steers some away but it is worth it to me to be comfortable and functional. Glad I could help
Another great video, well made kit. i myself carry the Exotac, lighter case on me daily, but i have yet to get the hold function of it to work right, do you have the same issue or do you not even bother with it ?
I need a question answered for me, I've been following you for a while now completely love your videos. I now need your professional opinion, I've been looking for bushcraft/survival knife I've looked at esee 6, BHK scout platoon, diving swallow Ranger, and B.O.B knifes. now I am a 19D scout for US Army so it well definitely be tested in the OPs and long nights on recon missions what do you think?
+tripp taratus I went through jump school with a 19D as my roommate. Any of those would be good. You will want something with kydex sheath and something that can withstand the elements. The esee-6 may be a good fit for you. It's light for it size and will hit vitals if you get into a cqc situation.
Clint Ragland can you link to the kit bag you use? I was lucky enough to get in on GSO's second run of 5.1s, but God alone knows when those will actually ship out to us.
It looks like he is using a Survive! Knives GSO 5 in this video. They can be hard to find. They sell factory seconds on their website on Mondays I believe and you can find them on bladeforums regularly. They should have a similar model coming out soon. GSO 5.1 I have an ESEE 6 and Swamp Rat Ratmandu that I can personally recommend. He does have a good video on choosing a knife that features a lot of nice knives on his channel.
Just started following your videos and was very impressed with the current 'fire kit'. I did go back and watched your first 'fire kit' video also. I really like your theme of keeping all items the orange color for high visibility. One question. Could you tell me where you got the orange pouch and name strip?
Poorer, more chaotic and border mayhem. And willy said the mouth is always open for a reason. Ka-magine what I say today, not Burdened by what I said yesterday.

good looking items and that's a nice bag to put it all in as well
That's some solid fire craft gear - I like the Orange bag suggestion
+Dean O it's a prototype we are making them now. Check out store in a few weeks.

Gives me great inspiration for my kit👍🏻
+Will Vestegaard thanks Will
Awesome kit and back up kit. Love the video as always. Great ideas too
Yes, new fire stuff☺☺☺ Thanks for the updated version!
Seriously on the candles! only goes in my bag in the late fall winter time....
+Piper Vucelick yeah haha it will ruin some gear. Ask me how I know.
That's all bad, I am sorry about that! Bad things happen w mace in a hot car too....20+ years later still careful about what goes in the car or on the dash....
Great looking kit!
As far as I'm concerned, you can never have enough ways to start a fire--- and that goes for fire starters to 👍

I like that sheath

Appreciate the update video.
Awesome fire kit! Good tip to not use the knife for the main source of fire starting.
That's the predator bird , good luck
One very simple item would be cotton balls smeared with petroleum jelly in a small zip lock or sealed container. Once lit, it acts as a wick for starting fire.
+Sharon Marks did you miss the fire nuggets in the sheath kit? Go check out the link to that video in the description
excellent presentation...
Alcohol covered cotton balls, I don't know the exact burn time but its enough to get your fire going. In a survival situation, the alcohol cotton balls can also be used for wounds.
Very cool. Thanks for the ideas.
Most excellent 👍🏻

Great Kit Jackinator !
Nice kit.

My fire kits usually contain a bic lighter, Ferro rod, tinder quit tabs, homemade vasaline cotton balls, alcohol swabs, and matches
love your channel. you got me started with the survival gear!!
awesome job brother keep'em coming👍💪💯
"Couldn't start a fire with gas and a road flare". Now that's funny. Don't care who ya are. Excellent vid brother.
replace couple of those foil fire starters with alcohol pad. Less burn time, but you can disinfect a wound.
You might check out the following, 'Burner Fire Starter and Grill Lighter'. This will replace, cotton, wetfire and most other fire starters.
Nice Suunto Core!
Awsome as always man! Can you pleace make a video with hacks for cold environments, a cabin and stuff? And about fishing, I suck big time!
well thought out kit bro! ive different kits for different bags and what i carry...
"they couldn't make a fire with a flare and gasoline"...LMAO! awesome kit
You making one of the best videos man 🔝🇺🇸
I'm sold on the Sagewood sheats and really want one, but they don't make them for Fällkniven knives... I've read that they only make sheats for the knives listed on their "master list"... I want a top quality sheath for my Fällkniven A1 Pro, do you have any suggestions?
Great video man
Great video
Where is that pouch from?
Nice! Have you ever tried a pencil sharpener to turn twigs into shavings? I like it.
Did the orange fire bag ever get to production?
GREAT VIDEO! Also great Idea regarding the button light. I have been looking for one but can track one down. Where did you find yours?
Not to disagree about sheath quality, but Justin Wolfe from Wolfe Customs makes some extraordinary gear. Check him out.
my fire kit, chap stick, mishmetal rod,2 4in gauze pad,bic lighter, and a piece of fat wood.
Hey Jack, Thanks for the video! Do you recommend the Sagewood sheath over the Hedgehog Leatherworks sheath? What diameter ferro rod loop is the most practical choice for the Sagewood? Thanks for any info you can kick back to me. Semper Fi brother!
Great Video. Thanks for the post. What watch are you wearing in the video?
Probably a stupid question, but if all your gear is one pouch, do you feel that increases the chance of losing ALL your firemaking gear?
I really enjoy your videos and learn a lot from them.
+John Oglesby did you miss the ferro rod and tinder in the knife sheath. Highly unlikely I loose my pack and knife on belt.
No, I definitely noticed that (very sweet set up too).
And I'm not questioning your choices as much as trying to understand. I know what I would have done, trying to adjust my thinking to avoid stupid mistakes.
just bought a pair of RS cargo pants from TAD on your recommendation and man you where right great gear going to buy more! keep up the great vids!
+Allen Anderson they make the most comfortable clothing for the outdoors. I know the price steers some away but it is worth it to me to be comfortable and functional. Glad I could help

Where did you get the orange pouch from? And how did you make the label lanyard?
+caleb lang I bought it here:
www.blackscoutsurvival.com/product/pre-sale-fire-kit-bag
I put a few pieces of fatwood, and some birchbark. Fatwood could probably start a fire in a downpour.
+Randy Mcknight I know how to find it on the landscape. So I don't need to carry it
Love the gear, hate the orange though I get the concept though. Great videos.
How about some lint, and a dryer sheets?
What brand pouch is that? Having trouble finding a pouch I like.
+chilltown91 it's a prototype we are making them now. Check out store in a few weeks.
Looking for the pouch as well , thanks! Great video and info .
Wow. I have some work to do on my fire kit...need more vaseline/cotton. Catching up on all your old vids now. I think its called bindgeing.
Good deal
What is the make of the orange kit bag and where did you get it? Thanks!
+Mike Paul it's a prototype we are making them now. Check out store in a few weeks.

Tango Mike black scout survival stay safe
Can these still be purchased on the Black Scout Survival store site?
I would add a small bottle of isopropyl alcohol
Thanks man really helpful.. The only addition in my kit is a 6 power magnifying lens a fire piston and a flint high carbon striker
Do you have an update on this kit, Marine?
You get a 'like' for pronouncing Fresnel correctly.
What about the fire piston?
I heard DuraGlit works great ...
what is the brand off the orange pouch, like the kit!!
+wickedfish1969 it's a prototype we are making them now. Check out store in a few weeks.
will do
Hmmm...didn't know those piezo-electric lighters were waterproof!
I'll have to pick up one to replace the bic in my fire kit.
Do you like the Sagewood gear sheath over the Hedgehog leatherworks sheath?
+CJULES1812 me saying sagewood gear makes the best sheaths in the video should have answered that. But yes
I thought that u were using a gso 5...I been trying to get me a gso for some time but I have bad timing apparently on the production runs
Clint Ragland can you link to the kit bag you use? I was lucky enough to get in on GSO's second run of 5.1s, but God alone knows when those will actually ship out to us.
Mike Paul n
Where do you get that cord light?
I can't find this pouch. Anyone know where a brother can get one?
I'll have to look back I'm sure you have an edc video if not I would like to see it
Great video as always. Who makes/ where can I get the pouch?
+noahmoore it's a prototype we are making them now. Check out store in a few weeks.

how about just carrying a good lighter?
Sami hyötylä two is one and one is none
yep. TWO lighters :P
not to forget lighters can break and run out of fuel. it's good to have back up with starters that can start thousands of fires
You're in nature
