Phoebe is actually a great friend in this scene. She doesn't let Chandler try any more bs and bascially tells him how it is. I actually know someone who tried to stay friends with the guys he is now the boss of and he is not respected at all in the office. They consider him now a joke.

Ones i could think of was the breakup with janice, the interview practice, the ring shop, the one where everyone knowd
We really needed more of them cos they were such cute friends. I think they also had a moment when they were doing chair duels on the recliners

I think the writers found it funnier to make it so people didn’t like him since Chandler as a character wants people to like him.. it’s the irony.. he’s insecure so it’s funny to make people not like you when you’re insecure even if in real life he’s actually very likable..
Plus, he constantly throws one-liners out all the time which to some people could come off as over-bearing and trying too hard..

Chandler's face when he says "what?" when Phoebe tells him his colleagues don't like him kinda breaks my heart. He always tries hard to make people like him but unfortunately some people don't take his jokes lightly (or some people don't know how to take jokes). But he's always the one who lightens the conversations of the group.

The same thing happened to me too. Once I became School Captain, every one of my classmates began hating me. A girl told me the truth about it so that I don’t suck up to them to make them like me. Ever since then I stopped caring about other people’s opinion about me. Something changed after I heard her say ‘No-one in the class likes you’.

Who WOULDN'T like Chandler?? He's a great guy, just because the man moved up in the corporate ladder doesn't mean he's changed. Yeah he's matured but he's still the same sarcastically funny guy almost everyone adores.
The problem arises because now he is in charge of the fate of others there at work. The dynamci completely changes when someone moves out of your group and is now a boss. You can certainly remain friendly with them, but you are no longer "buddies."

All jokes aside, what makes scenes like this great (comedically) is the truth behind it. I've been in Chandler's shoes and anyone else that has can agree that you can make many friends at work, but as soon as you get promoted, boom, that's it, even if they see you as a good boss.

i've always felt that friends did actually teach some adult lessons, even though it's a comedy. this is a prime example. when you get promoted, your coworkers aren't gonna be your friends anymore. you're just a boss to them. there are no friends at work.

It's unbelievably impressive that Chandler has a big office and is in charge of multiple people at the age of 26.
Happens all the time in the military. I was a 24 year old Army Lieutenant and was in charge of 30 men and a million dollars worth of equipment. Not a big deal.

I'd totally like Chandler to be my boss . He's cool , compassionate and also professional . I don't really get why both Chandler and Monica are hated at their workplaces .
You just see their private side. You don't know how they behave as bosses. Imagine Chandler actually being all bossy and demanding things on time and then he additionally comes in with his stupid one liners which aren't that funny if you are the butt of the joke. So you have a hard ass boss who also makes fun of you. On top of that he laughs about his stupid jokes about you.
Chandler wasn't hated. It's just that it's hard to be friends with the person above you in the hierarchy, as Phoebe tells him. You'd look like a suck-up to your colleagues, so any friendship you previously had with the guy who's now your boss has to stop (at work anyways).
As for Monica, she got the person who was the chef before her fired when she wrote a scathing review of the restaurant. Many of the staff were related to him, so they didn't take kindly to Monica taking over.

When I was first getting into Friends, I confused Ross's "The Sound... OF music" joke with being a joke at his expense (said by someone else, of course) about how he over pronounces words or something ("Speaking correctly".) Like I misremembered the episode where they pointed out each other's habits and thought that joke was part of it.
If Monica was there, she'd have grounded Chandler for putting his leg on the sofa !
I like how they'be shown Phoebe making Chandler understand the situation such matured way
