Love the video, but one bit should be addressed: the PS2/GC collection (while featuring proper aspect ratios and save functionality) did not contain the most accurate representations of the original games. It had it's own slew of changes (ex: the sound quality of the first two X games), though whether or not they are more offensive than the laundry list of problems this Legacy collection features is up to you.
yeah the accuracy of X2 in particular is questionable on PS2 from my experience, weird graphical glitches when fighting Wire Sponge and the timing of some of the music is also a bit off oh and you also get battle and chase as a bonus game if that sounds cool to you
X2 is my favorite game in the series so I appreciate that it is more accurate in this collection. 20 bucks for 4 games, the fun X challenge mode and hunter medals giving you mini objectives to accomplish all make it worth the price imho. If you like Volume 1 you can also buy volume 2 later, which is a cool thing as well since the latter games' quality has a habit of splitting the fanbase.
Glad you got some use out of our data. The final input latency video is taking forever because it's about 200 more tests samples on top of all the ones we've done so far.
There is actually a practice mode, but you need to finish all the stages first. If you complete it on Easy, you can practice the challenges on normal. Such an oversight, they should have explained it.
Interesting. I dunno why they'd put you through a boring-ass campaign that's so stupidly easy to unlock that feature, lol. I really didn't care for the way this whole mode was executed to be honest.
The fact that they didn't bother to fix X6's translation and replaced X7's badass credit theme (Lazy Mind) with something else (probably because of copyright issues) really sucks. I'm glad that the collections exist though because of the new tracks, HD artwork and so on. Maybe there's a chance of X9 happening because of the XLC, who knows.
Even though I could never get MMXLC to run, I did look into the folders as I was triyng to fix my issue ( _before asking for a refund_ ) and I found a movie folder that contained all the cutscenes in the games. The most aggravating part is that the Japanese X4 opening is just the American X4 opening ( _Thus removing the amazing opening of Makenai Ai Ga Kitto Aru_ ). So I suspect they were simply just, too cheap. However theoretically, you could download the Japanese versions and just replace them in that folder and _technically_ it should work. Since MMXLC never worked for me, I couldn't test this thesis but I did see a steam thread of others doing it.
0:55 - It really annoys me as to why they omitted those four games for this collection as there doesn’t seem to be much of a reason as to why they weren’t able to just give those four games the same treatment and, like you said, make this an 3rd Legacy Collection. Heck, it would’ve been better if they re organized the games to where X1-3 and Xtreme 1 made up for Legacy Collection 1, Xtreme 2 and X4 - X6 made up Legacy Collection 2, and the rest of the games making up Legacy Collection 3. I would’ve preferred them all being in one disc/cartridge but it would’ve at least made the whole thing feel more complete.
Spacey McSpacey then again Capcom is not exactly in a hurry to do a Sonic Gems for the classic series. Up the top of my head they could’ve included Mega Man & Bass, Mega Man The Power Battle, Mega Man 2 The Power Fighters, and all the Mega Man Gameboy games. I mean come on the two arcade games I just mentioned where in the Anniversary Collection so I found it odd that they weren’t in any of the Legacy games as a neat call back. If I could put these games in the Legacy Collections I would put all the GB games in the first one then the rest in the second one. If I could put the four games mentioned into the X Legacy Collections then I would put Maverick Hunter X and the Xtreme games into the first collection. Then I would put X4 and Command Mission into the second one.
@A New Challenger because x5 was the highest point in gameplay and visuals for the franchise in 2d....lots of people would not have purchased collection 2 if it wasn't for x5
I'm glad you spoke about the PC version of the game. It's criminally underspoken of and that's pretty shitty because it might bring up the glaring issues that Capcom needs to address. Such as the fact that the game hates Displayport, and for some people missing DX10 the game does not produce any sound. This is just a small bit of what gets talked about in the Steam community tech support threads. It's shocking that Capcom hasn't even responded yet
Oh really? I have been missing all that. I heard from people there have been problems, so I included what I knew of, but I didn't run into much myself. Hopefully more word spreads of the PC version's issues, though, and that Capcom addresses them!
I agree, hopefully Capcom does address them. I'm playing right now on my laptop, and I got it to work on my PC by just not using Displayport... But if you think about it that's not much of a solution. You should poke around the community forums tech support section. You might be shocked how little help Capcom is being.
My biggest issue is the atrocious input latency across all the titles :(, x3 is I believe being the worst by quite a margin in comparison. No matter what settings Ive tried in game and also tweaking the config file as RZ mentioned has led to nothing good. Bummer too as I was genuinely looking forward to this
The way i solved my input lag issue was to use a wired controller. I found the Switch Pro controller worked best, and felt closest to the SNES controllers in terms of button feel to where I could mash faster and execute better. If you haven't tried wired, give it a go. I'm currently at work playing wireless on X3 and I can safely tell you there's a lot of crap that would be easier without, and when I play it at home, the lag is nonexistent.
I've been trying to fix it on my computer. I downloaded a custom config file, I tried making my own config file, I tried installing it on a different harddrive - I even tried the weird fix of unplugging your monitor while booting the game up and nothing worked. After hours upon hours of trying to get the damn &(#"=&( game to work, I just refunded it. This is yet again, a time where Capcom has just utterly disappointed me on a fundamental level. And that Capcom's customer service have basically given people a big middle finger to their issues, just blatantly trying to snuff it out by claiming their speccs are too low, is just downright fucking insulting. Capcom wants to get back on the Mega Man fans good graces, and by fucking god I have let them do this with Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 & 2, but they just decided to drop the ball now. First with the extremely disappointing and lackluster Street Fighter Collection and now with the Mega Man X Legacy Collection *THAT WON'T EVEN START* . Seriously. In between getting disliking but awaiting Mega Man Universe, eagerly awaiting Rockman Online, to finding Mega Man Legends 3 interesting, only to have them all cancelled, followed by them flipping the finger by giving people " _Bad Art Mega Man_ " in Street Fighter x Capcom, and then trying to get back on our good graces only to to just not GIVE a damn?! Some would accurately say that I care too much about this. But this really really disappointed me.
Funny enough, they fixed the glitch in X8 where you could basically fly with Zero, using the skill you get from defeating Dark Mantis. It's, weird where their priorities went.
Step 1: Buy the collections. Step 2: Emulate your preferred versions of X1-X6 in your preferred emulator, optionally with patches that improve the games, eg Mega Man X3 Project Zero 4.0, X5. Improvement (Which may come to the XLC version at some point), and X6 tweaks. Step 3: Skip X7 and play X8 in the collection. Step 4: Play the X Challenges in both collections. There, you bought the games, played the best versions of them, and used both Collections for something. You don't get the Medals/Achievements, but do people really care about those anymore?
I actually just find the look of that "CRT" filter genuinely aesthetically pleasing sometimes. It's not about nostalgia or memories or anything, it's just that sometimes I switch to it and think "this is actually nice to look at for long periods of time". XD
Personally? I'm okay with their names being more consistent with X1-X4, but that's just me. And the reason they got the names always bugged the hell out of me. The woman who did the localization's boyfriend like the band Gun and Roses, it wasn't even her own interest. It being a music reference was a complete fluke. Good thing he wasn't a sports fan or we would've gotten Duff McJordan and Dark Jeter.
The Volcanic Greninja Well yeah, I understand that he doesn't genuinely think the game was trash because of a a name change. It's just the subject was broached, so I gave my thoughts on it, since I'm in a small minority that actually prefers the "real names". Interestingly enough, back when the game first came out, the Mega Man X5 manual had these names as well. It always bugged me they were changed, since I preferred Dark Necrobat, and come on Tidal Whale is a pretty epic pun.
Vazazell Perhaps, but like I said, I don't like the circumstances at which it came about. It's not exactly cool for somebody localizing something to just change things on a whim and add their personal sentiment to it. To me it's on the level of renaming them after your kids; Duff McBrad, Dark Jenny! It's kind of a bold thing to do to something your adapting to another language. And we already had an established naming convention: Element / Animal. Simple, but I liked that about it. It'd be like if the upcoming Mega Man 11 had Blaster Buckaroo, Big Bricker and The Voltage, people would probably be a touch irritated.
The problem with X8 for me, and X5 too, is that on the PC release of this collection, they didn't use the PC versions of those games, so megaman X8 has an menu issue of strong pixels on the menu that looks like someone got the game in 300x300 and scaled up to 1080p and let it there. It's horrendous. Also, Megaman X8 from pc had the option to chose the language for audio, and the original opening in Japanese from this game is amazing, so yeah, they're emulating every single Megaman as fas as I can see, including Megaman X8 which have the same start screen as the PS2 not the PC version.
After beating Easy mode, Practice Mode will be accessible, helping you practice any of the pair of bosses in Normal mode. You could try this, helped me a lot.
It's clear they wasted development time on X Challenge when they should have invested that time into fixing the framerate and having proper resolutions/aspect ratio. I want the main games to play well, I don't care about some gimmick double boss mode.
I hate it when they keep the old slowdown for "authenticity". It actively hurts the games, so why not remove it? It reeks of laziness. The mini consoles do this as well even though there's no good reason for it. It's a nice collection for the content but it seems the execution is seriously lacking.
Some people are braindead and want that "authenticity". I say fine, put in an option to turn the "authenticity" back on for those people who hate solid framerates.
I grew up playing these Mega man X games. Let me tell you something, if the slowdowns were removed, deaths would occur. Many, many deaths as many of us that did play the games as kids have all the patterns memorized based on that. Don't ruin the groove man.
That isn't exactly the point I was making. Sure, it is easy to adapt to some changes, but muscle memory is not really that easy to change, especially on games that were played for hundreds of hours and the memorization that occurred as well. There is a groove to gaming, especially classic gaming that has long been established. You mess with the groove too much and it will not sit well with many fans of the game that played it as children. To compound the muscle memory example, learn how to play an A minor, C, G and D chord on guitar. A standard progression that is used all over in music. Play that for hundreds of hours. Now learn how to play the C major add 9 chord. Then, instead of playing the C chord with that progression, you play the C major add 9 chord instead. I guarantee that for the first hour or so, you will consistently mess up. Especially if you are a beginner to guitar. The reason for this is that your muscle memory is trained to play exactly what you did for hundreds of hours and you will have to actively work to break that muscle memory to add a new muscle memory to the mix to be able to switch between the two reliably. This is the same for playing games. It gets much more difficult to do if you did it for hundreds of hours as a kid and many more times growing up and going back to it on many different occasions.
@@GameDevMadeEasy That guitar analogy is terrible. You'd rather play the same four chords in the same strumming pattern at 120 bpm forever rather than learn how to play chord variations, riffs, solos, or interesting rhythms at different tempos so you can be better at your instrument? I get that it's easier to make excuses than it is to improve your skills, but if you've played a game for hundreds of hours you're far past "beginner guitar" stage, and should have the neccessary skills built up to adapt your muscle memory, making each future experience with it even better.
one thing i noticed while playing on my friends switch was the japanese cut scene for X4, yes THAT cut scene, was edited so you could hear Iris speak, but its so obvious that you can hear when the cut of the audio is raised and when its not. Having that, the Japanese opening cut for licensing issues, the intro censored by slowing down and looking awful for those couple of seconds, and the Rockman X4 logo being able to faintly be seen in the MMX4 version in the collection is a bit of a bummer.
I'd say it's good to recommend people to buy this. Capcom is putting these collections out there and it is very accessible like you said. Megaman 11 came out thanks to fans vocally saying with their wallets that they want more Megaman. Hopefully we'll see an X9 someday.
I would imagine that it would be even harder. A powerful as Zero is his con is bad defense as in he tends to die quickly. Even without armor X has better defense than Zero. Fighting two bosses at once unless you’re very good at not getting hit doing it with Zero would be a challenge
I've only played MMXLC 1 so far, but from what I've seen up to now it's definitely worth it for 20$ (I'm using the Switch version, since portability is a huge plus for a fellow such as myself). I have yet to try X Challenge since I want to hold off until I get to X5 and X6 on the second collection, but I'm enjoying what I've experienced up to now.
I'm getting both collections because I love the X Series and want to support it, even having played all the entries in the franchise (with the exception of X7)
I am 41 years old. Up till now, I've never played through a MegaMan game. When Mega Man X came to market, I had it for SNES, but to this day I can't remember if I beat it or not. Last October, I became attracted to the Mega Man collection and I ended up buying MEGA MAN LEGACY COLLECTION, MEGA MAN X LEGACY COLLECTION and then MEGA MAN 11. I took it upon myself to play through the games in order from Mega Man 1 - to - Mega Man 8. Then I played through MM11. Then I started playing through MMX. I just finished Mega Man X4. I'm preparing to start on X5. I must say: #1 We've basically been playing Mega Man 2 clones this entire time. They took Mega Man 2, added a dash button, wall climbing and collectibles and then called it MEGA MAN X. #2 The games get easier between 4 and 6. The Mega Man X games are in my opinion easier than Mega Man 3, but there are purposeful headaches implemented to ensure you'll be frustrated. Sub Tanks don't store energy between saves for example. You can't save special items like the Hadouken or Dragon Punch. You have to do death-defying leaps to get most items which you'll probably not be able to complete the game without. #3 Mega Man X4 I'd say is the fairest Mega Man game thus far. Like 5 and 6, you can beat most bosses with the default weapon. However, there are issues I have where hit detection is made ridiculously small such as Kaiser Sigma where aiming for his head - the stereotypical weak spot does NOTHING. OVERALL: I spent around $22 for Collection 1 and Collection X - add another $12 for Mega Man 11. MONEY WELL SPENT. I'm playing over 30 years worth of the best action platformer ever and I really appreciated the effort that went into it. I have a 34" curved Alienware monitor with a 4090 RTX GPU and my only disappointment is that the SD resolutions aren't HD like they are in Mega Man 11. Sound Quality is SUPERB - some of the best music I've ever heard. The games are frustratingly difficult often but they can be beaten if you keep working at them.
Still have all the SNES and PS1 games! I’m playing the XLC on Steam and the part I love the most is the filter options. Being able to blend the pixels to better accommodate HD resolutions is great and is making the game much more enjoyable. Mega man X for the SNES was probably the first game I fell in love with. Always gonna have a special place for Megaman.
For the X Challenges, you either fight Dynamo and Gate as the final boss, or Double and Iris. And if you're on hard, you fight Ultimate Armor X and Awakened Zero as the true final bosses.
Something I Noticed is that input lag. And some times, When I press dash button after got leg upgrade part in first X games, When I press dash, X didn't do dash. Sometimes, It's move quicker but there's no dash sprite. Plus, Part where you were supposed to fight green dude with ride armor is bug since green dude didn't show up at all.
I love how we're getting this accessible package ( I wish Castlevania did this). However, I wished Capcom fixed these technical issues before I spend money on this.
I have played through the ENTIRE LEGACY COLLECTION sequentially- and then MM 11… and then I played through the entire MEGA MAN X collection. The worst games, arguably, were X6, X7 and X8. I actually spent more time replaying those above the others. I played through X7, beginning to end, 5 times so I could 100% the characters. I played through X8, beginning to end, 12 TIMES to 100% the characters, purchase Layer, Ariya and Palette, and 100% the items. I pop in X6 from time to time to play the last level in Shadow Armor. The series is ADDICTIVE. I give the entire effort an A.
I haven't played any of the X games because so far, I really like the classic series. I am however considering the X games once I'm done with MMLC 1 & 2 as well as MM11. I'm glad you made a video talking about the collection so I'm aware what flaws exist, since I'm opting for the collections as my way of playing.
Gonna be honest with you. If you groove with the gameplay of X and the speed and relentless difficulty of the later games doesn't turn you off the classic series will never cut it again. You are going to suffer. No other games come close to the speed and intensity of X. Every 2d platformer will feel slow and gross. Even classic Mega Man. You will search for a game that delivers the same degree of rich movement and action and fail. The world of 2d platformers will became a barren desert. Your desires unfulfilled as you look for the next big thing but it never comes. Not even Mighty Number 9 could save us. The speedy jump and shoot genre is dead.
You spoke about input lag, although I have not noticed any input lag on my machine whatsoever. I have however noticed that on Flame Mammoth's stage when you get the upgrade, sometimes an invisible wall will appear when using an Xbox One controller when trying to complete that pain in the ass pixel perfect jump.
now we just need enough people to buy it so we can either see a new mega man x title or see a mega man x9. id rather see something new because i dont really like the story from x7 onward to much
mikecoolgreen But the X series was literally supposed to be done with X5 and Mega Man Zero was going to pick up where X5 ended. Part of the reason why X6-X8 aren’t considered that great is because they were made against the wishes of the creator.
Finally someone else notices the audio issues in X4-6! I was starting to feel like I was the only one, as every other review I've seen just makes it sound like everything is fine. The X4 differences bother me slightly more than they should, particularly the fact that a couple voice clips from Magma Dragoon and Frost Walrus play at a higher pitch than all their other clips, sounding like they are on helium briefly. There is also the removal of the effect previously used on certain attacks and voices (like Sigma, Magma Dragoon, and Jet Stingray) that makes them sound less impressive now. X5 and X6 are particularly weird in that Zero's movement and attacks sound noticably worse than the originals (or the PS2/GC collection), while the other game sounds are mostly fine. It almost sounds like his sounds are running at a lower sample rate. X has some of the same issues, but I don't think it's quite as bad. (Though I haven't done much testing there) All these issues are present in both the Switch and Xbox One versions from what I've been able to test. I agree that it's probably not a big deal for newcomers, and I'm still enjoying the collections, but little things like this bug me when I've been playing games like X4 for 20 years.
What I’m trying to figure out is why certain sounds on the later games are muffled and have their pitches sped up like they’ve been compressed? Especially when you consider the Collection is 4GB at the minimum for the first one? The original 6 games were no bigger than maybe 300MB....
I haven't noticed any speed differences in terms of button delay myself, but thinking about it it could be because of the controller being wireless. But have you noticed a difference in difficulty with the original, anniversary collection and XLC? I feel that, for example, Wheel Gator being far easier to bait out from his under-oil bullshit in the anniversary collection, but being nearly impossible in the snes version on emulator, and in the xlc. Holy shit the Dark Dizzy slowdown was worse than I thought. All in all, great video. Keep it up, and super excited to see your x8 video.
Lost interest in this series after X3 but I've enjoyed the hell out of X1 time and time again. One of these days I'll have to go back and check out the rest of the series just for shits and giggles. :P
While I don't really understand all that aspect ratio and resolution talk, and probably would not notice it if I were to play this, it's nice to see someone who keeps track of it to know how much work was put into the collection. But I'd probably still seek other options to play these games, hah. I actually look forward to see if you look into MMX8 by the way. Have really fond memories of that game but I never revisited it for some reason. I guess the only thing I know for sure it's that it is a step up from the previous 3 games. Definitely the best thing included in Part 2.
Good video!!! I have just joined on the PC and found that it can't be edited the config text file permanently. Any thought to have it 6o MHz as default?
As someone who doesn’t care much about graphical details or a singular save slot for X1-3, I think both collections are solid enough. My only complaints are the slowdown of the SNES games (which could’ve been fixed), lack of a PS1 music option for X3, and the janky X Challenge mode
The XLC also runs really weird versions of the games that aren’t the English versions necessarily but are the Japanese versions translated into English.
I really really wish they had used the 32-bit version of X3 in XLC. That would've allowed for 3 save slots (while still being able to use passwords), easy implementation of audio swapping, less slowdown, button mappings that stay when you shut down the game, etc. From what I can tell, every game past X3 is using the PC release as the base, which is why they tend to run smoother, why the sound seems off at points, and most likely why rookie hunter mode saves you from pits in X4~X8 and not X1~X3. I'm sure they could've also found some way to take the rebuilds of X1 and X2 from the original X Collection and tidy them up for this. My only guess as to why they didn't use the PC version of X3 as a base is that they either just didn't want to bother with trying to put the original SNES sounds back in the game, or they just wanted all three of the SNES games to be the actual SNES games.
I own all the originals. I have X1-3 on SFC, and the PS1 and PS2 games. I was going to avoid this, but someone bought the Xbox One version for me as a gift. It's overall decent and I'm glad it's out there. I more or less agree with what you have to say. Very informative and comprehensive, as always.
Well done port review; I'm guessing Capcom is trying to quickly curry favor from Mega Man fans after straight up ignoring the franchise for over a decade, since they seem to be in a bit of a scramble to just shove stuff out the door without much care. Doesn't bode well for X9 or the cartoon series.
It's still someone else's work, just using licensed by Capcom. The "control" capcom has won't involve strictly telling them what to do. If that were the case the plot of Battle Network wouldn't be different between the games, anime, and manga. Or that X would be some muscular dude in the Ruby Spears cartoon. Or the fact that the Canadian/American Darkstalkers cartoon exists.
.... I have screen problems in the X Collection but they're so minimal and it's seems that is better than theses filters.... And yes! I agree indeed that they were lazy that they focus on the wrong things. Purchase X Collection and Classic Legacy Collection
As one who has never owned a ps2 i can't play the x collection and i don't give one sh** about slow down or odd scaling that i can't notice! So i bought both of these games and have played through x1 X2 x3 x4 x8 and the rest are in the back-burner but i think its a great way to play all the x games. Its also great for new comers to the series with rookie hunter mode and portability for the switch version and sorta the pc version cuz lap tops but whatever
I had an issue with the PC version where X-X3 ran at like PAL speed, I don't even know if it was an Issue with the other games because I ended up refunding it out of frustration. Oh well at least the video file for Day of Sigma works in any regular media player so I got that out of it I guess.
Something that just bothers me about these Capcom collections in general is that there’s no option to change up the sound mixing. Yeah, I know that it’s kinda trivial in the grand scheme of things, but it would be nice to hear what the X8 cast is saying without them being drowned out by some of the louder tracks in the game.
I got the Mega Man X collection for the Gamcube and I still got the Mega Man X legacy Collection. I never played X7 or X8 and I love being able to capture footage for the Mega Man X games
I love your videos!! This has everything I need to know! I love how manter details are there even on a 25min video I'm going to purchase everything, I love this franchise so much, bit it's good to be sure what I'll get anyway Also, I want to pay for it since I've played everything on emulators and this is just the best way to support something that made me really happy I'll wait for a sale tho... Not exactly on a good price for Brazil standards yet
I have never played any of the MMX games and have no means of playing them on an emulator, like many of the people in the comments are suggesting. I plan on getting both collections for the Switch, but would any of these issues be a deal breaker?
I noticed the input lag from the get go... I got used to up in X1 and X2 but for some reason I noticed it more in X3 and was not able to get used to it through the whole play through. Also I only got slow downs in X3.
If you already beaten the first collection I say go for it if you want to continue playing X. X6 is frustrating but with Rookie Hunter Mode, it's more bearable. X7 and X8 I never played, I'm about to start it soon I'm on X6 right now. You could always wait for a sale too later on.
Honestly, I've never experienced input lag in the Switch version. I don't know if it's just me or the version. Anyways, for me, this collection is how I'm gonna be playing these games from now on(the problems you listed seem like nothing for me personally). Oh, and you for got to mention that you get access to the Japanese versions of X1-6 and just about every regional version of X7 and X8
Fortunately the input lag on XLC hasn't hampered my enjoyment, mainly because I can't really tell it's there. That said if it weren't for the existence of a Switch version I wouldn't have bothered with it. I just liked the convenience of having all the Classic and X collections in one portable package.
I'm not sure if it's in other versions of XLC, but the Soldier Stonekong fight in X7 (on Switch) is broken. Whenever he jumps to the pillar in the background, he despawns and you have to off yourself. As far as I am aware, this makes beating X7 on Switch nigh impossible.
I feel that this has ALOT of missed potential. Not in the overhauls some people ask for (i.e. the new level design of x6 and redubbed x4) but in the small items that could have been done to improve the experience (the boarders, completion rewards, and secrets)
I bought the legacy collection combo for PS4, got home and started playing before realizing they didn’t give me the disc for MXLC 2. I wonder if they thought I wouldn’t want the second collection. I still went back and asked for the disc cause I payed for it.
fun fact, the switch version was made with its screen in mind, the oled has upscaling issues so dont play it on that model. i havent notice any weird graphical problems playing on the niche hd pixels mode
Needing to "get good" at a game that was designed to be difficult, is not excuse for bad game design, which the X games started having issues with from 6 and up. Complaints are valid complaints when it comes to those games. It's not dark souls. Get over yourselves.
thank you very much for the fix on the slow down! it was driving me crazy. by the way...i don´t now what version they decided to port for X6 but i remember it having moonlight as an opening and now has crappy american midi music.(yeah, nitpicking)
Wow. It sucks that so many issues are surfacing in what should be a collection of really fun games. I've played through X1-X6 on the Steam collections and so far I've been pretty lucky. I did notice that the games slow to a crawl whenever I try to change to 1080p resolution and that is annoying, but at 720p everything moves smooth as butter. If I've run into any input lag, it's insignificant enough so that I don't really notice it, so I'm loving this collection. Still the fact that anyone is experiencing these issues at all is a serious problem. These aren't super advanced games, so modern PCs shouldn't be facing so many problems when running them. Capcom really dropped the ball with this port and that's a damn shame.
They still should have fixed the controls of Sentsuizan in X6. That was supposed to have been fixed in X Collection, and they didn't address it in this version either. Zero is still impossible to play in levels with ropes
I'm thinking of getting of getting the 2nd X Legacy Collection on Steam, but I can't find any reviews/solid proof that state that it requires you to be online while playing the collection. Can anyone let me know if that's the case?
First time hearing that an updated collection of all games from the past put into one bundle came out as less and bitter than previous ones. I'll agree with the fact that the X collection on the PS2 plays better and more firmly, the legacy collection seemed like it was trying too hard or something.
The PS2 collection is worth it just for the slowdown and bug fixes alone. I just wish the Anniversary Collection met the same standard.
yeah the accuracy of X2 in particular is questionable on PS2 from my experience, weird graphical glitches when fighting Wire Sponge and the timing of some of the music is also a bit off
oh and you also get battle and chase as a bonus game if that sounds cool to you
X2 is my favorite game in the series so I appreciate that it is more accurate in this collection. 20 bucks for 4 games, the fun X challenge mode and hunter medals giving you mini objectives to accomplish all make it worth the price imho. If you like Volume 1 you can also buy volume 2 later, which is a cool thing as well since the latter games' quality has a habit of splitting the fanbase.
funny i found someone with the same profile pic as me lol... that bear is amazing

Glad you got some use out of our data. The final input latency video is taking forever because it's about 200 more tests samples on top of all the ones we've done so far.
Oh hey you
Yeah, thanks a lot for the video! I felt like the input lag was there and your video gave some substantial evidence for it. :)
BladeBlur OH HEY YOU
There is actually a practice mode, but you need to finish all the stages first.
23:30 OMG IT IS OFFICIAL RZ IS DOING X8 NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CONFIRMED!!!!
HOORAY!!!!
YAS!
OH YEAH YES PLEASE
WHY ARE WE SCREAMING?!
Keiji Johnson honestly I feel like Capcom will do something similar to Sonic gems collection with these obscure games.
@@SpaceyMcSpacer still waiting for that...
I was wondering why the video guides I was looking at were flying all over the place with him…
You answered every question I could have had about how the game handles the aspect ratio problem. Thank you.
No problem! Glad I could help. :)
I kinda do care but I really wanted them to play the X Challenges, and to experience X7 which I haven't been able to emulate properly.
DarkLink1996 Skip X8, WHAT?
Next
Skip X7, play X8.
Yeah, Zero Project is superior to vanilla X3.
I could play the og again but I don't have a good reason for it.
I'm always gonna play the Zero project since X3 is bullshit anyways.
I actually just find the look of that "CRT" filter genuinely aesthetically pleasing sometimes. It's not about nostalgia or memories or anything, it's just that sometimes I switch to it and think "this is actually nice to look at for long periods of time". XD
*reviewers tell me not to pick type 3*
*picks type 3 anyway, because I like full screen.*
SigmaXVII_ lol me 2
Heyyyyy this guy speakin my language
I think type 3 looks ok tbh with the smooth filter, but its pretty jank otherwise
Yea the sidebars distract me
Literally me. It's really not that bad.
They changed Duff McWhalen's name in Megaman X5...
0/10 - literally trash.
It was a joke
The Volcanic Greninja
Well yeah, I understand that he doesn't genuinely think the game was trash because of a a name change.
Vazazell
Perhaps, but like I said, I don't like the circumstances at which it came about.
MarxForever duff mcjordan lul
The problem with X8 for me, and X5 too, is that on the PC release of this collection, they didn't use the PC versions of those games, so megaman X8 has an menu issue of strong pixels on the menu that looks like someone got the game in 300x300 and scaled up to 1080p and let it there. It's horrendous. Also, Megaman X8 from pc had the option to chose the language for audio, and the original opening in Japanese from this game is amazing, so yeah, they're emulating every single Megaman as fas as I can see, including Megaman X8 which have the same start screen as the PS2 not the PC version.
Yekkusu Sekai Seiken
Is the PC version of X8 good though? Just curious.
Alias F yes, but theres no cinematic cutscenes (as if those mattered lul)
Wheatley, o tijolo
As in intro cinematic or every single one? I can't find shit on google about the differences between the two.
TBH, only megaman x2 didn't had a PC version.
After beating Easy mode, Practice Mode will be accessible, helping you practice any of the pair of bosses in Normal mode. You could try this, helped me a lot.
I honestly wouldn't stand a chance in that X Challenge mode. Fighting two mavericks at once sounds insane.
It's clear they wasted development time on X Challenge when they should have invested that time into fixing the framerate and having proper resolutions/aspect ratio. I want the main games to play well, I don't care about some gimmick double boss mode.
mjc0961 Yeah, it's dumb. What's the point of a collection that doesn't play well?
@@nicoloenricorimoldi7425 hell of a exaggeration to say the collection "doesn't play well" good lord lol
@@GameDevMadeEasy Then just adapt?
Hopefully we'll see an X9 someday.
its also pretty BS that you can only play as X in the X challenge, why isn't Zero there?
lol how much you wanna bet it will be paid dlc? 😢
I would imagine that it would be even harder. A powerful as Zero is his con is bad defense as in he tends to die quickly. Even without armor X has better defense than Zero. Fighting two bosses at once unless you’re very good at not getting hit doing it with Zero would be a challenge
Cuz it's called X-challenger :D
probably because you fight the zero nightmare, i think?
ModelOmega because he’ll be there for the Zero challenge in the Zero collection. (Just a joke but god I hope we get a zero/ZX collection like these)
I've only played MMXLC 1 so far, but from what I've seen up to now it's definitely worth it for 20$ (I'm using the Switch version, since portability is a huge plus for a fellow such as myself). I have yet to try X Challenge since I want to hold off until I get to X5 and X6 on the second collection, but I'm enjoying what I've experienced up to now.
I'm getting both collections because I love the X Series and want to support it, even having played all the entries in the franchise (with the exception of X7)
This was better than My Life In Gaming's review, and that's saying something.
I have the Switch version and I enjoy playing the collection. Then again, I just wanted to play X4-X8 on a Nintendo Console.
I must say:
#1 We've basically been playing Mega Man 2 clones this entire time.
I'll buy the PC version anyway, not for ports or graphics but for games.
The most important thing I got out of this video is the permanent mental image of X doing a forward toe shuffle.
For the X Challenges, you either fight Dynamo and Gate as the final boss, or Double and Iris. And if you're on hard, you fight Ultimate Armor X and Awakened Zero as the true final bosses.
good luck getting there on hard, normal is already pain in the ass
Well, maybe i'll get this on my PS 4. I just wanna play some Megaman X so badly. :P
Do be careful, sounds like the input lag on PS4's way way worse.
And there's censoreship also
Something I Noticed is that input lag. And some times, When I press dash button after got leg upgrade part in first X games, When I press dash, X didn't do dash. Sometimes, It's move quicker but there's no dash sprite. Plus, Part where you were supposed to fight green dude with ride armor is bug since green dude didn't show up at all.
I noticed a lot of input lag in X6 during Metal Shark Player's stage and during the battle with Gate.
1:06 that would've flopped. Let's be real here
MetalSonic1993 lets be honest all those games should be in 1 game
people would've bought a part 3 for maverick hunter and command mission, especially if it had similar treatment to x7 and x8 graphics wise
The way he said "masochist' killed me inside
I apologize for the assault
same
You spoke about input lag, although I have not noticed any input lag on my machine whatsoever.
I think remade versions of the Zero games would be the best option, (like upgraded sprite art etc.)
(Though I haven't done much testing there)
All these issues are present in both the Switch and Xbox One versions from what I've been able to test. I agree that it's probably not a big deal for newcomers, and I'm still enjoying the collections, but little things like this bug me when I've been playing games like X4 for 20 years.
The death sound is specially noticeable.
What I’m trying to figure out is why certain sounds on the later games are muffled and have their pitches sped up like they’ve been compressed? Especially when you consider the Collection is 4GB at the minimum for the first one? The original 6 games were no bigger than maybe 300MB....
4:17 X MaverickHunter : "Hold my E-tank."
I want you to play X6 and X7, bae. And have live reactions to everything.
If this man can play the boring ass hell of x3, he can do it fine with x6
While I don't really understand all that aspect ratio and resolution talk, and probably would not notice it if I were to play this, it's nice to see someone who keeps track of it to know how much work was put into the collection. But I'd probably still seek other options to play these games, hah.
I actually look forward to see if you look into MMX8 by the way. Have really fond memories of that game but I never revisited it for some reason. I guess the only thing I know for sure it's that it is a step up from the previous 3 games. Definitely the best thing included in Part 2.
i've always thought those slow downs in x1 mine cart ride as a feature to help with timing. Honestly for my kid brain it looked cool lol
Woah, a Retropolis Zone upload. Always good to see!
Personally, the biggest gripe I have with the collection is the multiple missed opportunities to bug fix, rework and redub X4-X7.
There are actually people who want slowdown because it feels more authentic? That's just a stupid reason for justifying poor quality
The cartoon series isn't being directly made by Capcom.
I doubt the cartoon would be affected by such a thing
Still licensed by Capcom and under their control, but we'll see.
Please make an X8 review! It is my favourite megaman x game!
I personally love X6 a lot, and I know people usually don't and I get why, but personally I love it
How the fuck did you make Math Interesting.
It's 'cause it's Mega Man, isn't it. Smart Man.
I see a Trav comment, I click the heart
.... I have screen problems in the X Collection but they're so minimal and it's seems that is better than theses filters....
And yes! I agree indeed that they were lazy that they focus on the wrong things.
Purchase X Collection and Classic Legacy Collection
15:01 Especially for the switch version in handheld mode. The pixels look extremely crisp on Switch, especially on the Oled model.
I get a lot of errors when I'm in the game and load the Buster and it freezes or doesn't save my progress even if I use the codes
As one who has never owned a ps2 i can't play the x collection and i don't give one sh** about slow down or odd scaling that i can't notice! So i bought both of these games and have played through x1
X2 x3 x4 x8 and the rest are in the back-burner but i think its a great way to play all the x games. Its also great for new comers to the series with rookie hunter mode and portability for the switch version and sorta the pc version cuz lap tops but whatever
I know it shouldn't have to be done by fans, but hopefully the game can be modded for the 8:7 aspect ratio on the SNES games.
Great review RZ!
2:28 I need that picture.
Is there some link?
Seems like I might pick it up on a good sale. Wish this was the definitive package, but it's my only option since I don't have a PS2 :'(
in the config file, does setting the resolution to 224p/240p work?
Maybe in windowed mode, but on full screen I think most monitors do no support 240p.
I find the PC version much harder than the console version. It took me several difficult playthings just to find a key layout that works well.
I also gotta say, I get so many dropped inputs and this odd... held input issue on the switch version.
Do you still have to “activate” game every time you turn it on on PC even in Steam offline mode, making it effectively unplayable without internet?
I got the Mega Man X collection for the Gamcube and I still got the Mega Man X legacy Collection. I never played X7 or X8 and I love being able to capture footage for the Mega Man X games
I love your videos!! This has everything I need to know! I love how manter details are there even on a 25min video
I'm going to purchase everything, I love this franchise so much, bit it's good to be sure what I'll get anyway
Also, I want to pay for it since I've played everything on emulators and this is just the best way to support something that made me really happy
I'll wait for a sale tho...
I would be more excited for this if they gave it the maverick hunter x treatment for 1 to 6, and then included the originals as well
I like X8
you should mention the issues on x1-to x2 and to x3 with the sound lag problems
I want legacy collection 2 because I never played x5-x8 but x6 and *especially* x7 suck sooooo much
Dude X8 is so amazing, at this point buying XLC2 is cheaper than finding an actual copy of it these days. Totally go for it, that's what I'd say.
X5 is flawed but has some incredible moments.
If you already beaten the first collection I say go for it if you want to continue playing X. X6 is frustrating but with Rookie Hunter Mode, it's more bearable. X7 and X8 I never played, I'm about to start it soon I'm on X6 right now. You could always wait for a sale too later on.
The Dom Bomb my favorite x5 moment is having to do the water level 3 times to get every upgrade
hameed I don't play as X so I never have to worry about upgrades
Honestly, I've never experienced input lag in the Switch version. I don't know if it's just me or the version.
Anyways, for me, this collection is how I'm gonna be playing these games from now on(the problems you listed seem like nothing for me personally).
Oh, and you for got to mention that you get access to the Japanese versions of X1-6 and just about every regional version of X7 and X8
Fortunately the input lag on XLC hasn't hampered my enjoyment, mainly because I can't really tell it's there. That said if it weren't for the existence of a Switch version I wouldn't have bothered with it. I just liked the convenience of having all the Classic and X collections in one portable package.
the recommended settings helps out a lot, I've had the collections on my backlog for a while
I'm not sure if it's in other versions of XLC, but the Soldier Stonekong fight in X7 (on Switch) is broken. Whenever he jumps to the pillar in the background, he despawns and you have to off yourself. As far as I am aware, this makes beating X7 on Switch nigh impossible.
That sounds like a positive in my books. ;)
Does anybody know why the game is playing by itself, when I play it I can't control the characters or anything
There must have been a patch to collections 1 & 2 (as of today) because both games have to be re-downloaded on Steam, 6GB and 9GB alike!
Top tier: X1 & X4
High tier: X2 & X3
Mid tier : X5 & X8
Bottom tier: X6 & X7.
thank you very much for the fix on the slow down! it was driving me crazy.
by the way...i don´t now what version they decided to port for X6 but i remember it having moonlight as an opening and now has crappy american midi music.(yeah, nitpicking)
The switch version has a rewind option...and it will come in the form of a update to the Ps4 too.
I think you mean the mega man legacy collection not the x one.
Capcom really dropped the ball with this port and that's a damn shame.
i thought there was a practice mode for x challenge? Sorry focusing on going through main series before trying challenge
I love your videos! I hope you make a retrospective on the DKC games some day.
They still should have fixed the controls of Sentsuizan in X6. That was supposed to have been fixed in X Collection, and they didn't address it in this version either. Zero is still impossible to play in levels with ropes
What’s the name of the song that starts at 13:26?
Storm Owl from Mega Man X4
I'm thinking of getting of getting the 2nd X Legacy Collection on Steam, but I can't find any reviews/solid proof that state that it requires you to be online while playing the collection. Can anyone let me know if that's the case?
You can play offline. :)
Thanks man. I appreciate the quick reply 👍
First time hearing that an updated collection of all games from the past put into one bundle came out as less and bitter than previous ones. I'll agree with the fact that the X collection on the PS2 plays better and more firmly, the legacy collection seemed like it was trying too hard or something.
