    • Cardiovascular Disease...
    Generic name: Lisinopril.
    Brand names: Prinivil.
    Available as a tablet.
    How to use it?
Tablet: Just swallow it with half a glass of water.
It is usually best to take this drug at a fixed time. If you experience dizziness as a side effect, you could best take it in the evening before going to bed.
    When to use it?
Lisinopril is part of a group of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors. These drugs widen the blood vessels, thus lowering the blood pressure and lowering the straint on the heart.
Therefore Lisinopril can be used to treat; a high blood pressure and heart failure.
    What is the correct dosage?
The precise dose will depend on your specific indication of use, the side effect you might experience and the severity of your symptoms. Therefore always use the precise amount and frequency your doctor prescribed you.
However, when treating a high blood pressure in adults, most doctors will start with an initial dose of 10mg 1x/day. Which if necessary can be slowly increased up to a max. dose of 20-80 mg 1/day.
When treating heart failure, the initial dose is much lower, and needs to be build up over a long time. Ultimately the maintenance dose will be about; 20-35mg 1x/day.
    What are the side-effects?
Common (1-10%): low blood pressure, dizziness, headache, cough, diarrhoea, vomiting and renal impairment.
Uncommon (0.1-1%): Palpitations, rapid heartbeat, Raynaud's phenomenon, heart attack, cerebral haemorrhage, nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue, taste disturbance, mood swings, hallucinations, sleep disorder, impotence, rash and itching.
Rare (0.01-0.1%): rash, hair loss, psoriasis, allergic reactions, acute renal failure, confusion, dry mouth, breast formation and blood count abnormalities.
Very rare (0.01%): several major side effects.
    Safety:
The first days of using Lisinopril it can lead to dizziness or fatigue. Please do not drive while experiencing this.
Furthermore, alcohol widens the blood vessels. It can therefore increase the side effect of dizziness at the beginning of treatment. Try drinking alcohol in moderation first so you can estimate its effects.
Lisinopril can also have interactions with other drugs your are taking. Always discuss this with your prescribing doctor.
Lastly, Lisinopril could be dangerous for pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding. To be sure, always discuss this with your personal doctor.

Two weeks ago my blood pressure was 212/128 and I was taking extra blood pressure medicines. I changed my diet completely and this morning my blood pressure is 108/67 and I am completely off of blood pressure medicines. I can teach anybody to do the same. Stop eating all foods that convert to sugar and increase your intake of avocados, walnuts, hemp seed, and a high polyphenol count olive oil, eat lots of fish that is high in omega 3 oils, and green leafy vegetables. Also, take a high-fiber supplement that is pure like psyllium hulls. Do not take Metamucil as it does contain psyllium hulls, however, it also contains other ingredients that are really bad for your intake. The first week you will feel bloated from the high-fiber diet, however, that will pass and the high fiber will lower your cholesterol. Another benefit you will receive is your arthritis (which is only inflammation) will go away. High blood pressure can be completely controlled by diet. I hope this helps and good luck to you.

I was taking 20-12.5 once a day, had a mild cough then my Doctor just increased it to a double dose, because my BP was still too high. Exactly Three weeks into taking the double dose (no issues up to the three-week mark) I awoke up one morning with major dizziness, blurred vision, mild confusion, diarrhea, fatigue. Its been a full week of these symptoms, still awaiting feedback from my doctor. If these symptoms dont go away soon while taking this Lisinopril, Im all done with it. Works good though my BP went from 150s/90s to 109/76 ish. I dont recommend this drug.

My wife took this after a month her face swelled up then her neck took her to the ER she was having trouble breathing. They had to do an emergency procedure put a tube in her neck to breath. Her brother also had the same side effect when he took it, but his lips swelled up. Her GP doctor was surprised she had this reaction tried to blame other things the ER doctors told her to never use this BP med and list of other ones also. We changed doctors after that also this is a very dangerous BP med. If you can avoid taking it take a different one. This is more common than doctors claim also they are being fed information from the big pharma whose goal is to pump sales I don't blame doctors. ER doctors told me they see this way more than you would expect always Lisinopril.

I take this stuff. I've been taking it for two years. Since the start of taking it, I have two problems: My skin cuts far more easily. If you sneeze on me too hard, I get a cut. When I garden, I'd better have some band aides in my pocket. When I do get a cut, even a small one, the cut bleeds and bleeds. I have to put a paper towel on the wound to get the bleeding stopped.
I am of the opinion that this drug lowers blood pressure by making you lose so much blood from cuts that you can't have high blood pressure.
