Hi Magdad, as a British gas fitter I was introduced to Footprint pipe grips way back in September 1966 as a first year apprentice gas fitter, and used them for forty three years all throughout my career in the gas industry. I had two pairs set to fit Ten light (1") and Five light (3/4") gas meter unions. The Gordon, (Chanellock) grips we were issued with, were too small for the bigger meter unions. So two pairs of Footprints made life easier. I was in my garage workshop just today, and came across my Footprint wrenches and oh boy,
were they ever in a bad state, covered in a fine film of rust. I have ordered an angle grinder, and a bench grinder for my birthday in
April, (71st) and the first project will be my Footprints ! Still set for 1" and 3/4" as it happens, I am leaning towards wire brushing and blueing, as that finish is nearer to the original finish that I remember. Stay safe Sir, ✌❤ Bob.
Thanks Bob! Those Footprint wrenches seem super handy! I'd love to see photos of your project! 357mdad@gmail.com
You know you are getting old when some one restores your current tool kit. I am a Plumber in the UK and have footprints of varying sizes in my bag. I have had them for 47yrs and still use them alongside modern wrenches lol. By the way yours looks great restored but they were always quite a rough looking tool finished in black.
Thanks John! Footprint wrenches are pretty rare in the US. I love that logo!
As a plumber in Great Britain I can only say they never came that shiny when brand new
I definitely took this one over the top!
Congratulations on 3K! The wrench turned out beautifully! What a fantastic job on reproducing the thumbscrew! Outstanding all around...
Thanks ScoutCrafter! Thank you for showing us your belt sander techniques!
Love it! These old tools are amazing and constructed so well that many are still around.
Thanks William! The Footprint wrench is a classic!
Great job Magdad! The knurling you filed into bolt head looks fantastic and the finish is very impressive. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks John!
Nice work sir - quality Sheffield steel! When this wrench was made, Hsefield was making the world's best steel and the quality shows
Thanks! It's a great little wrench!
That's great job on the pivot pin
Thanks Larry! I think the pin came out pretty good with my limited tools!
Amazing job in the pivot pin!!!!! What a fun restoration!!!
Thank you! If the thread had been something standard I wouldn't have had half the fun!
Great job on the knurling! That nut turned out awesome! I've been wanting to buy a file to put checkering in firearms, the front strap of the trigger etc. They not cheap! Gosh, I love Evaporust. I have a 5 gallon bucket (and a few 1 gallons) of it waiting to de-rust some goods (64 C10 passenger side suspension). I filter it with paint filters (cone shaped) and it gets it pretty clean. I love the different tools that are discovered. Of course the wife doesn't like it as I slam brakes on yard sales with tools! LOL. Thanks to ScoutCrafter and now I'm sure soon with you! It's fun. Keeps me out of trouble! Great video. 3K is great, There are endless peeps doing channels. I usually go by word of mouth as there are so many!
Thanks Aaron! Hunting for old tools is as much fun as cleaning them up!
Great work on the wrench. You really sent it over the top with the pivot pin. You always find a way to make it better. Congrats on the 3000. You earned it. Thanks
Thanks Glen! It kind of worked out that the thread was a weird pitch - it forced me to get creative!
Wow! That came out really well, superb job. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Nash! And thanks again for sending this little wrench to me! That British thread on the hex bolt forced me to get creative and made the project much more interesting!
Just like you my friend! Machine shop results without a machine shop!! 👍🏼
Thanks Marc! I'm really pleased with how that pin turned out!
357Magdad, a fantastic restoration. I used to live and work in Sheffield and our office was across the road from Footprint tools. At around 10.30 am the guys would come outside in the summer to escape the heat from the hot forging wearing only safety boots and shorts. Their bodies were often black with riverlets of sweat going down their chests and backs. They would remove their goggles and look like owls with two large white rings around their eyes while having a mug of tea. Tough guys doing a tough job and it is great that the company is still going after experiencing a sticky patch a couple of years ago.
Thanks UK Tony! That's a cool story! Sounds like hot, dirty work!
The Joe Pera of tool restoration
I think he's funnier than me, but I'm more handsome!
Great restoration. I love how you created that knob. Very gutsy. Turned out great. And Congratulations on making 3000!
Thanks Ben! That weird British thread forced me to get creative!
THANK YOU...for sharing. Watched and very much enjoyed. You have a way of thinking outside of the box, in a very good way.
Thanks! I've got limited tools, so I have to get creative! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I'm just going to say what everyone else is saying. That pin construction was brilliant and came out great.
Thanks Drew! I'm really happy with how that pin turned out!
Outstanding restoration and historical references! I’m 90% certain it looks better than when it was new. Impressive job on the pivot bolt. Congratulations on 3000 🎉🎊🎈

Great video! You did superb job on the wrench but especially on the bolt! You really impressed me with that! I also thoroughly enjoyed the music! It was great! Lastly, BIG congratulations on 3000+ subscribers! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Wayne! I really glad you enjoyed the video! I have a lot of fun creating these videos about my little projects!
The Logo reminds of those Groovy Footprint Gas Pedals.
It does! I see those pedals at flea markets sometimes - I should pick one up!
Great work on both the resto and hitting 3k!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Alan!

Finding old British fasteners can be a challenge. I am supposed to work on a 60s Triumph motorcycle soon. Whitworth wrenches anyone? I only have British Standard sockets from Rolls Royce Darts!
That turned out really nice. Keep up the good work.👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Wire!
Congrats on 3k!! Great job on the wrench and knurled screw!!
Thanks Steve! I'm really happy with how that pivot pin turned out!
Great job! Enjoyed the pivot bolt reworked to copy original.
Thanks Steve! I think my pivot pin is definitely an improvement over the hex bolt!
Love Evaporust. Nice tear down and clean up. Beautiful restoration.
Thanks Michael! If you are an Evaporust fan, I think you're gonna like next week's video!
Awesome restoration!!!!! Congrats!!!!

Thanks RoadKing! I'm surprised so many people are interested in my little projects!
Amazing job! MagDad you hit this one out of the park!! I have seen some awesome stuff made with silver solder I might have to try it! Inspiring video! Thanks, T-Wrecks
Thanks T-Wrecks! I had trouble getting that solder to flow. I want to experiment more.
Excellent restoration as always. Congratulations on reaching 3000!
Thanks Frank! I am amazed that so many people are interested in my projects!
357magdad I don’t know why you’re so surprised. You explain everything step by step and do a great job on your restorations. I always look forward to watching them. Keep up the good work!!👍
@@frankg3072 Thanks Frank! Making videos is a good creative outlet for me. Keeps me sane!
Awesome work on that pivot pin!
Thanks John! I'm really happy with how that pivot pin turned out!
Great idea on the thumb screw.👍
Thanks Steve!

Thanks Mark! The odd thread forced me to get creative!
What a great restoration. Making that new pivot pin in the manner you did was genius! It really looks nice now.
Thanks Lee! I'm really happy with how the pivot pin turned out!
Made in Sheffield, England👍🏻The plumbers tool of choice..
It's a pretty handy little wrench!
Congratulations!!! Another great video!!
Thank you!
I like your "Wall-o-Restorations!" And the history lesson on the Footprint logo was fascinating! Very clever little wrench/pliers! Newk from Kentucky
Thanks Newk! The wall is getting full already!
Yes, definitely a nice repro of the pivot screw 👍🏻
When I did my Footprint restoration, I contacted the company to see if they had any info on production dates, as my wrench had military markings - they actually responded and were very helpful/pleased to see the restoration. Good old Footprint 😂👍🏻🛠️
Thanks Armando! I wasn't able to find much online about my 695 pattern. It looks like the 698 was much more popular.
@@357magdad Interestingly, some of the earlier wrenches were put together based on what components were on the shelf.... So there were some hybrids, like my wrench.... That's information directly from Footprint; obviously the quality control significantly improved over the years!!
Came out fantastic! The way you use you drill press like a lathe is most impressive. The bolt washer sandwich was so creative. Nice Work! Congrats on 3000k subs!
Thanks Tom! That Harbor Freight drill press is more than 15 years old! It sure has come in handy!
love your restorations
Thanks James. I enjoy sharing my projects with others!
That pivot pin looks awesome, as does the rest of the restoration!
Thanks man! I'm really happy with how that pin turned out!
Love the Flitz. And the pin. Cheers from Perth, Western Australia. 👍🇦🇺😁
Thanks Dano! I'm a Flitzing maniac!
As others have said great job and congratulations on the 3K! 👍 👍
Thanks Sparky! Footprint wrenches are cool!
Amazing wrench resto. I've gotta hand it to you though that pin that you made is the star of the show!
Thanks! I'm really happy with how that pin turned out!
Fantastic restoration.
Thanks! This was a fun project for me!
Great job on that bolt! Congrats
My drill press thinks it's a lathe!
Nice job Magdad I'm going to start hunting for a wrench like that. I use Scout crafters techniques on the belt sander all the time. Great video my friend!!
Thanks TR! Footprint wrenches are hard to find in the US. My buddy Nash finds them at the car boot sales all the time in the UK.
I done a few tools with that footprint logo. Good restore.👍
I just subscribed!
Thank you for your support.👍
Great Job!! Neat work on the screw too!! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks Bill! Nash sent me a good project!
Awesome job. Flitz it and forget it haha.
Thanks WM3! The wrench looked pretty good after sanding and buffing with the scotch-brite. I just Flitzed it because I have to Flitz everything!
That came out really nice.
👍👍
Thank you!
Wow, it came out great! You’ve given me a few ideas with this video! I have a propane torch and solder and flux, but I have been reluctant to experiment with it because I never did it before, but do want to learn. I bought a slightly larger version of the same wrench off eBay and I keep it in my tool kit. I pair it up with the Knipex plier-wrench and I think it’s a pretty effective combination and I added an Irwin version of the Cobra type pliers to that same kit
Thanks Joe! I had trouble getting the solder to flow. I'm not sure it was the best stuff for steel. I have more experimenting to do!
@@357magdad It's me again Magdad, there have been times in the past when I have had to use solder on steel, (not ideal as soft solder is used on non ferrous metals copper, lead, and brass.) The secret I found was to use plenty of flux, and not get the steel too hot, Cheers, Bob. ✌❤
That was an impressive job well done😎👌
Thanks Super-wrench! It was a fun project!
Congratulations on 3k👍😀👏
Thank you!
Enjoyed your video and gave it a Thumbs Up
Thanks Russell! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
@@357magdad You're welcome

Thanks Jeff! This was a fun project!
Nice video!!🎥🎥💪🏼
Thank you!
Nice job replicating the pivot pin!
Thanks!
That's a heck of a lot of effort, and I believe it paid off. Thanks for #throwawaythethrowawayculture
Thanks WB! I get a kick out of trying new things!
Super cool company logo
The Footprint logo is one of my favorites!
It looks great. Big thumbs up for how you've made that pivot pin without specialty tools and a lathe and such, don't know if I would have tought of that. Someday soon I am going try out making those saw fasteners like you have showed in a earlier video, going to be fun. Thanks a lot Magdad!
(is that sticker for sale somewhere yet??)
Thanks Alex! I have limited tools, so I have to get creative! Send me an e-mail and I'll get a sticker out to you. 357mdad@gmail.com
There were many different British thread types, BS Whitworth, BS fine, BS cycle, BA etc etc
I had to fabricate one of these pipe grips as part of my apprenticeship in 1979, still using it, not as shiny as yours though, I'd be afraid to polish it as it was case hardened
I'd love to see some photos of your shop made tool! 357mdad@gmail.com
Cool
Great end result and a cool project. Where do you get the scotch rite disks for the Dremel?
Thanks Rusty Gun! I make the scotch brite discs myself! I got the idea from 805RoadKing. Check out my try square video, I go through how I make them.
