Possibly the greatest RTS game of all time. You can keep all of your starcraft and your total war... I'm off to burn some troops and spend ten minutes looking for the final enemy ore truck.
Nah this game is just goofy AND clunky, not to mention pretty one-dimensional at the top level. And I'm saying that as someone who had this as his first RTS game.

It's lovable in a few ways, but oh god the AI is just dumb beyond belief. It's dumb, dumb, dumb. Infuriatingly dumb.
I LOVE this game. Though I hate how all you really need to do is build a ton of heavy or medium tanks and call it a day. I wish a mix of units was required.

I remember as a kid thinking when it said "silos needed" it was actually saying "silence needed" and always wondering why the hell it was telling me to be quiet 😂 man the stuff you realize as an adult

And defensive structures too - only the cruiser and V2 rocket rival the Tesla Coil for range
Radar dome is a prerequisite for the tech centre that allows access to the Mammoth - one on one it'll match any land vehicle in the game

The human primate sure is an interesting creature.
Mate. Even weirder, with certain sound bytes I can still taste the quaver crisps my fat little shit 7yr old self would eat whilst playing this.

@@lfc011 6 years later, but omg I had this on playstation and so did my uncle, who I used to always play video games with as a kid. Did you ever used to connect the two playstations together with a cable and play against someone else? That was what we did all the time, and that was some high technology at the time
That's the thing that gets to me every time I watch someone else play RA1... Nobody else seems to give a crap about the radar... Why do you all like playing blind?!
It was always the 4th building I built, every time. Here, you don't build one until nearly 13 minutes in!!
Or the effing airfield for scouting and free troops. Ugh
This makes you realize how much Red Alert 2 spoiled us with multi-unit building and endless refinery capacity. Such a classic. Smoledged.

The struggle was real if you were playing this on the PS1, but I'm glad you were able to play this game! *not saying you grew up poor or anything* just that the PS1 port was pretty wonky and sometimes difficult lol

I think the most annoying sound is "Silo Needed" for this map.

I never run out of money on this map. Unless you did not build enough ore trucks otherwise, you will not run out of money on this map
in this map I usually against 3-4 AI on hard
I think OpenRA change some of the units feature. They make Artillery so much powerful. I suggest playing this game with original units setting is the best. I got the game at cncnet
Then build silos FFS, if you keep hearing silos needed, you need silos and you lose money every time the truck deposits.

Hell yeah my friends played this when it came and still fire it up once in a while.
This map require that you build fast, not because of the AI assault but to stop the ore from spreading too rapidly and prevent further expansion.

The computer attacks on Hard were just ruthless in this game on skirmishes.
People need to learn to group units. The constant selecion, deselection and missing to select some units is driving me nuts :P

At some point In 1999 i was ranked 260th in the world at this game. Your style of play in this video was frustrating to watch, though i've seen worse. You could have won the skirmish much sooner by uncovering the whole map with infantry and building mammoth tanks and attacking more aggressively earlier.

I was ranked 7 at one point ;) you can imagine my frustration allowing the enemies economy to continue when in such close proximity to be decimated. Not to mention tabulation. I can't believe this guy thought this was a good video. I won't lie though. I'm super shitty with videos too
God the soundtrack is so amazing in this game... So much nostalgia!!
I just played this map (against medium AI) for the first time at 3 AM this morning, same exact map placement. Was crazy. So much ore I couldn't build anything, and there was a constant swarm so hard I didn't see but 1 enemy for the first 30 minutes. Then there was only 1 enemy AI left and they were even stronger than the first one. I didn't have short game on, so I cleared almost the whole map looking for the last units. Turned out there was 1 infantryman way up on one of those hills. Only way I could think he got there is that he must have parachuted there.
Edit: Only way I won was swarms of mammoth tanks. Was lucky if I destroyed more than a couple buildings.

that's exactly what i thought!
Ctrl A is force attack, where you tell them to attack something that isn't an enemy, which they'll keep doing till you tell them to stop!

Can someone please please please tell me the point of having multiple war factory's for tanks etc... other than positional deployment on the map. He was building them right next to each other.
the more war factories you have, the faster units from the factories are built. it allows you to build mass tank formations very quickly
does that also work in cnc 95 as well?

I remember i used to make lots of maps with the editor. I always liked to put many crystals and a single path so all enemies would fight in the same spot.

but..am i the only one who is bugged that:
- you don't know have to click each time to build a tank? just click many times to build a queue
- you don't assign a team number to your troops so you don't have to always drag and select..
In ra 1 there wasnt any build queue available so you had to painfully click a unit every single time to build it. Despite lack of build queue yeah there was a team system which also bugged me

Hell yea this is the real sound track. This one is as great as any other made for C&C games up to Read Alert 2. Just look up Frank Klepacki, he did many other projects as well.

Hi guys, i remembered there's a option before u play skirmish mode and it was a Free for all in a way that all the other A.I players will continue to be hostile to each other regardless of how many of the A.I is destroyed. I can't find it. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks.
Hey, it's not a skirmish option in RA1, it however is an option in the RULES.INI settings file in the game called AIParanoid=

This fossil has better sound design than most modern games: the units' death sounds make them sound like...dying, the tanks' shells and building exploding...Red Alert 2, ugh.

720HP but this is the Remastered version so it can be as high as 4k. Most post at 1080HP 30-60fps.

Why build a power station, barracks and then straight to ore refinery when you start with 10,000 credits. Enough to build two warehouses and start tanks sooner. Then you don't even build a silo so you're losing money picking up the crystal ore. Then you also picked up $ from a crate or something. Is it vs AI or something?
I remember this for the Ps1 and Yuri's revenge for PC. Why can we not get another one like so? I don't even care about the graphics, just seems like Red alert 3 was bad and didn't feel the same as the first two.
