The most important thing about Tiberian Sun Ion Cannon is that it works immediately, allowing it to be used even in self-defense. This is the only instant super weapon in RTS gaming i am aware of.
@@amitakartok My feelings are definitely biased by nostalgia. Dune 2000 was the first video game I ever touched at the age of 3. Obsessed over all those games growing up.
RTS games in the late 90s were the peak of the genre. Starcraft, Dune 2000 and Tiberian Sun -- legendary gameplay, legendary music...still plays them on my 15" CRT period correct monitor and PC.
I loved placing the chemical missile launcher far away from base with a cloaking device. My brother never figured out where the hell it was coming from.
Never actually thought of using the Firestorm against incoming Missiles before. Come to think about it the Chemical Missile must be one of the rarer Super Weapons to be used as there's no guarantee that Veinhole monsters will be present on the map. It actually does to a point seem underwhelming for all that but nonetheless can be devastating when used in conjunction with the multi-missile. Super Weapons certainly weren't winning the war in Tiberian Sun but had their value.
Also devestarting if you just had like 10 weedeaters. Also kinda neat how it almost forced gdi to open with infantry or a jump jet and nod to try and defend veinhole monsters in early game

The Ion Cannon was actually really handy when used on enemy bases becoz it always left a huge hole in the ground which they couldnt build on again hehe :)
omg watching this almost makes me wanna cry! :( These were the good old days and watching this videos brings back so many memories! Me and my brothers playing this all the night haha Great video :D
What? Tiberian Sun is A great Westwood game. Souns/music/gameplay/units Evrything, I don't mind the grapics. This game will be in my hearth forever. EA cannot ruin that!
im glad there bringign back the burrowing nod abilty into cnc 4 and im also glad for them bringing back the mammoth mk 2 in cnc 4 ahhhh those were the good days of firestorm. thx for uploding brings back memorys
In Tiberian Sun you were basically like "oh shit " when 3 Nod Artillery cannons started pelting your base etc; hated them so much XD. I remember a mission where you kill Tratos as Nod in Firestorm boy was that cool as it required a careful plan since the enemy had you totally outgunned and outnumbered; stealth was key. You also had to be careful of Mobile Sensor Arrays near Tratos because get too close to 'em and Tratos will almost immediately be flown out followed by "Mission Failed" :)
I consider this the last true C&C game. It had so many things over Starcraft; unit veterancy, real physics, terrain deformation, hostile environments, so much! Westwood is dead, LONG LIVE WESTWOOD!
I've been playing a lot of skirmish in Firestorm lately and sometimes I get unlucky. I have lost very important buildings like crucial defenses, refineries, or even war factories at times. Tip: If you build a critical structure on unpaved ground, there's a chance it will leave a crater if it's destroyed with a superweapon (you can't build on craters). So paving your base, even under your critical buildings, after you build your barracks is a good idea.
sol ragna OK, I know it’s EALA product and both have cons. But for most part both games had a nice foundation which is from Westwood soul. It’s still very C&C feel. Don’t you agree?
@@JimRaynor2001 well i mean a lot of Westwood staff (if not all)and a lot of content was cut because of the Time (Money)and the environnement was too différents the only thing that i like was Joe kucan performance.
@@jeanmichel8919 I know the developers largely are different since TW and KW, but EALA still honored C&C's name at that time and the gameplay is solid with some nice enhancements. BTW at least there's one ex-Westwood head leading the devs nevertheless. But we all know EA continued pushing them to make more C&C games so they had to put lackluster RA3 and rather disastrous C&C4. EA eventually butchered C&C.
Scouting's not written by Frank but by the "helping hand" from Tiberian Sun: Jarrid Mendelson. Other tracks he wroe include The Defense, Lone Trooper, Gloom 2, Heroism and my personal favourite, Pharotek. Also, the guy wrote the Ordos OST for Emperor. Just wanted to clarify that, still cool video. :)
Wish they could somehow remake this game with better graphics but not 3d scrolling. I played this back in 2000 and it was probably the most addictive game ever for me! People used to put up with the lag of 56k modems lol games on forest fires and terrace that lasted hours and then crashed! The chat lobby was so funny as well. Europeans and Americans able to play each other unlike a lot of games today. People getting banned from the lobby by Sunflight for saying that they lived in Scunthorpe lol
I remember trying to do that final mission for the first time, I got my base built and an army to attack then that fucking thing jumped up and completely destroyed everything.
For CABAL being such a super smart AI, it seemed like a big oversight to not equip his core defender with any anti-air weapons. The fools in Nod, they cheer the name of Kane, ignorant of the fact that there so called "messiah" was the one that tried to kill them. Presumably, CABAL healed Kane's face and saved him from the wounds McNeil inflicted on him.
Best C&C ever made. I played this for years online before losing that computer and not having the game anymore. Since tehn ive tried most of the other C&C's and they just don't compare. This game was well balanced and supported massive armies, as well as small battles. Big it was the big battles that were fun ^^
Tiberian Sun is freeware now - you can legally download the game for free, and there's a fan patch to make it run on modern hardware, even on higher resolution screens.
man, that core defender terrified me as a kid. I went to the point where I choked him off in the middle of the map, and deployed 50 artillery and 80 tick tanks in meticulously placed rows to kill. I cheesed the mission the first time I played, and forgot to save. boy was that a mistake. and then my dad told me to do my piano practicing and I had to turn the game off. I had to play from the last mission (harvester hunting, the longest fucking mission in gaming) all the way back to that level. and again I died because I cheesed it and yep. forgot to save. then my buddy tim came over and we did this over the course of 4 hours. it was how I learned.
I thought the nod cluster missel was cool. It was extremely irritating when you were gdi and didn’t have concrete on your base because the land would be totally ruined when your bass was attacked and if you didn’t build up your base in time you weren’t in hot water. The ion cannon was cool but I think it would have been better if there was more spread damage or nod had a unit like the mk where it would have been useful to use it in a wipe out attempt against a nod like mk2. I think the cluster missel far out powered it but watching the ion beam come down was so satisfying. Especially with the cool sound effect it had.
You're welcome. For some reason the skirmish AI has access to multiple Hunter-Seekers at once; I've seen 3 chase down a pack of infantry and annihilate them. Once my construction yard was even destroyed by one before I even had a war factory running!
this game was fucking hard. I remember coming to like the 3rd or 4th NOD level of firestorm when you have your soldiers equipped with riot weapons and EMP tanks, and you have to put down a bunch of civilians. That level was beyond difficult
but does everybody agree with me that the old C&C games were way better then the new ones? (when Westwood still created them?), i would really love it to make my own C&C game like this one, and bring the 'retro' C&C back to this generation
great video. hmm, I hadn't thought about this before - but a lot of the weapons in tiberian sun/firestorm are ripped directly from dune 2/2000. the death hand missile, the sonic wave tanks, and of course the carry-alls. But of course, the first C&C had a lot in common with Dune 2 as well, but it had less units that operated exactly like their Dune counterparts..
What EA needs to do is hire all the westwood staff and create a completely independent section of EA just for C&C. That way we get great graphics and an awesome storyline
well if you have to know i haven't played other versions of C&C and... the tank i was talking about is like a normal 21century tank (do you understand?)
