Great story pete. Got me really emotional.
Im one of those people thats in their first year, thanks to yourself and maxwells for inspiring me through youtube.
I was working horrible late hours in a toxic environment for years as a chef, never a saturday night or sunday off and as a father it was destroying me working unitl midnight 5/6 nights a week.
Im only new and i only really cut grass at the moment, but its made me really happy doing what i do.
Ive stopped smoking, quit weed and become a better person because im actually happy with what im doing in my life and theres no need to mask any problems.
It really is a very satisfying job, even in the rain!
Take care and have a great weekend mate!

I started up after 34yrs in a factory was made redundant i then started dog walking with my wife for people then one day picking my daughter up from work as i drove past a house there was a honda izy outside someone's house that read free but hard to start, i pulled up put it in my landrover then took to my allotment.amd asked a guy if he could look at it for me, £10 later and new spark plug that was me set up and thought wow what a mower ill start a lawn mowing service so that's what i did i had an old petrol strimmer, i saved up then for stihl blower and kombi engine and attachments ans that was my mower for 2 years then i sold it for £35 as the engine was still amazing and started on first pull body was rusted through. Next mowers Hayter 41 pro and Toro super recycler 48 both still going strong alongside another Izy. Take care buddy

Hi Pete brilliant story mate you made the right choice and I like the way you took the time to do it at a pace you were happy with and didn’t rush straight into it without alittle more experience it shows you were willing to do it right
A lot of people are inspired by watching UA-camrs
You guys that make videos here on UA-cam really help people starting out and gardeners who are already doing this
I personally think your one of the better channels on UA-cam because you can tell how much you love your work and how much effort you put in but also how much you want to help others and it’s unique I don’t get that vibe from other channels your a much more likeable character and I’m more inspired by you than some of the bigger channels

Every time I think about possibly changing my gardening business to doing something else, like a Plan B, I always seem to refer back to Plan A. So in keeping with plan "A" means eating healthy and keeping in shape so I can keep on keeping on doing gardening maintenance.

Then this is 100% for you Dave
Being self employed gives you freedom
You work for the clients you like you did the hours you want and charge want you want
I used to work dead end jobs for £1350 a month I now do that or more a week so financially it’s more rewarding
You do have good and bad weeks and overheads running costs etc but the freedom to work your hours on your terms and have control of your life and take holidays when you want it’s perfect
I’m 100% in control of my life and do what makes me happy and knobody ever tells me what to do
If you get rude clients or bad payers you sack them off
Also you work with Mother Nature not always easy in winter but a pleasure in summer 💚🍺
I’d never go back to working a dead end Monday to Friday job with a boss looking over my every move clock watching you on lunch breaks etc
Go self employed and escape the trap the system the yes sir no sir way of working
Be the boss and you’ll never look back your life will be 100% better buddy I promise you 💪🏼
Please keep me posted with how you get on and if you need any advice please just ask 🙏

I’m taking the leap myself in Feb/March and leaving my current job and going out on my own full time and starting a garden maintenance company I’ve been doing 2 days a week this summer with a local gardener to get some knowledge behind me, I’m really nervous about doing it but also really excited as each day it’s getting closer to reality, all I have left to get is a leaf blower and a strimmer (I have a multi tool but super heavy) what strimmer would you recommend?,

Waste wise a lot of customers have bins or compost areas / bonfire piles but I will take waste away if needed I’ll charge £25 a ton bag or charge £250 a van load
I take mine to a place called gunners not far from me they charge me £75-£90 a load and their price is the same for a bag or a van load so worth while going when you have lots
I know lots of tips will take it and charge on weight you also need a waste carriers licence

You just have to sell yourself the way you look the way you speak maybe have a portfolio so you can show your standard of work when quoting jobs
You’ve got to do all you can to stand out from the crowd 🙌🏼
