This was the last House of the Dead game where your main weapon is a pistol, and yet it was also the last game where your shots felt like they had weight and impact. The bosses don't just no-sell your attacks, they would recoil when you landed a perfect shot, and making progress on killing a boss feels satisfying rather than plodding.

Considering how crazier the bosses get down the road - with the last three being a giant chainsaw-wielding maniac, the reincarnation of the last game's final boss, and a shapeshifter that can bum-rush you with his own bodily materials - I think the player's shooting tactics are justified.
Did you know pressing reload and shoot together allows you to keep shooting indefinitely as there's no reload animations or a cool down between button presses? Also if you keep the cursor right in the middle of the screen during boss fights you will find yourself killing bosses only having to concentrate on mashing shoot and reload button. Also for judgement boss, if you do the trick I mentioned above, you can end the armour phase in seconds as shooting the armour still do damage to the boss. The only bosses that requires slight movements would be the multi headed boss and the chainsaw boss, surprisingly magician you can get away with the cursor in the middle as well but you that's if you mash shoot and reload button fast enough.

Are you using an actual Famicom gun to play? If I recall correctly, when forcing the game to run in widescreen the reticles would be misaligned so you would be off with the mouse aim while shooting, so we had to install an invisible texture to erase the reticles, and aim out of muscle memory.
