I love the weird plants series 😃 It's just amazing how all these species developed in nature and survive and thrive in sometimes harsh conditions, the Welwitschia is especially fascinating 🤩
As another weird plant I would recommand the Hoya spatioides. And just as a tip: In the botanical names of plants only the genus has a capital letter, for example Monotropa (genus) uniflora (species).

Weird houseplant I just discovered --the Pickle Plant (Kleinia Stapeliiformis) ! It's a succulent. I'm sure most people have heard of it, maybe I'm late to the game, but succulents are so diverse I'd never heard of this one before and I always enjoy being introduced to a new plant friend.
The only thing that makes me uneasy, is things like the helmet orchid. I think certain endangered or hard to find species are best left in their natural environment.

There is actually a species of Monotropa in the UK. The technical term for what these plants do is mycoheterotrophy, meaning basically parasitizing fungi that are in turn forming a symbiosis with trees. There are also other plants that do that but still have chlorophyll for supplemental (if you will) photosynthesis.

I can't remember if you've said this one before but Sinocrassula Yunnanensis is the *strangest* plant I've seen, ever.
When it's young, it looks like a black hedgehog, but as it grows, it can grow into the shape of a wall. They can grow absolutely massive (like, tree canopy height) and they have these strange flesh-coloured inflorescence too. They can be grown indoors, and then can flower at a young age, so you can get their whackiness inside as well.
It honestly looks like it comes from a different planet. Like... it's so strange, everything from it's leaf colour, to it's growth pattern, to it's flowers, to it's height- It just makes no sense in my head.

Great video! Just referring to your comment about Alocasia amazonica - it is not native to anywhere. It is a hybrid from Miami in the 1950’s. It was produced in a garden centre called Amazonica hence the name. 😊

That first alocasia was giving me very ill vibes as well. I feel like if it had a voice it would be saying please end my suffering 😅😅 I am glad though that poaching was mentioned in this video, as it can be quite the concern with many of those very rare looking plants!

The second plant, the one that looks like it has sugar sprinkles seems to be popular with succulent growers. The Helmet orchid 💕, I am an orchid person. There are some orchid growers that actually do grow some species of this; not sure about the one you discussed. Mother of thousands, is considered invasive where I live (California).
