You can change the misiles to x and then assign beam swap to the right trigger in the control menu. Makes firing super missiles really nice while using zr for regular fire
@@Kohana64 It is a bit awkward that way, but i think it works out fine, I just slide my finger up to the R button while holding a charge and it works. You can also go to the switch settings and swap button configuration to your controller like set Y as R and R as Y so morph ball is R while missile is Y. I do this to swap the jump and lock on button so I can jump with ZL instead of L, feels awkward to me and makes it easier for using dual stick controls. Also a nice thing is that the Rapid Fire Missiles is in the Remaster, you shoot a missile, fire the power beam and then fire another missile and repeat, you do this in quick succession and you can shoot missiles very fast to kill strong enemy's and bosses. You gotta play Super Metroid on Nintendo Switch Online. Its the game many consider to be the best Metroid game. I personally loved the Prime series more, but Super Metroid holds a fond place in my heart being the first Metroid I beat and it was like Link to the Past for Zelda, a significant upgrade to the NES versions of Metroid and Zelda.

I'm waiting for physical to buy it but I can't wait experience Tallon IV again in this remaster. My only complaint from what I've read is that, despite the vast number of control options, using a Gamecube controller plugged into the switch as you would for SSBU doesn't work. Either the map button or the pause button doesn't work (I can't remember which) due to the button mapping. I hope this gets patched. By no means a deal breaker, but just an odd oversight considering how much care was put into making control options so that every prospective player would be happy with the experience.
I probably should've mentioned this, but yeah I believe there's an issue with the pause button mapping. It doesn't really affect me personally because I vastly prefer both the dual stick control options and the switch pro controller over the gamecube controller. Hope you enjoy the game!
regarding the issues people have towards Prime 1s map layouts and progression, I feel like a good solution for that in this remaster would have been to let save stations double as teleporters so that backtracking does not get as stale.
I'm new to this channel (UA-cam's random video they showed me) I noticed you was playing some Prime games earlier also before this game was even mentioned I'm waiting for the cart which i believe is tomorrow :D
Great series of Metroid vids, got some quality stuff here, I wanted to talk about Metroid too since it honestly doesn’t get enough recognition for how good of a series it is and I’ve been playing since gc, you had good takes all around imo so yeah great vids bro
Not "in some cases additional polygons". I don't think there is an original model left in the whole game. I could be wrong. But even the smallest details seem to have been replaced.
Nice video dude. Actually if I'm not mistaken, in the Metroid Prime Trilogy there's an option for screen brightness. Pretty weird there's nothing like that in this game. Nonetheless, it's a wonderful remaster. Sometimes I even though I was playing a new-gen game.
Amazing channel buddy, top tier quality and writing. Subbed! Watched your Echoes and Corruption Retrospective. Im doing it in reverse order. Keep up the awesome love and care you put into your content
I just recently found your videos and I found the metroid series to be quite captivating. Im a huge fan man. Im gunna subscribe! I wont lie though...I was kinda let down that there isnt a video of you doing a run down of Metroid Dread. Would have loved to see your personal perspective on it! Maybe you could?
I’m pretty sure retro added the change to the beam shots because mashing the ZR button to fire would become tiresome after a short while. Either way, it still should’ve been another option to choose
I’m pretty sure the triple burst is taken from the Trilogy. I remember this also being a thing. Also for the brightness - there shouldn’t be any issues if you set your TV correctly. But I agree, a slider doesn’t hurt anybody. Regarding the doors I don’t care that much. I think the new design fits better with the new look but I never found it hard to see the color in the original. And finally: I’m gonna cry if Prime 2 & 3 get the same treatment. Oh my god…
I'm hearing that we'll get those games but minus the remastered treatment. I really hope we do though, and if not at least give us multiple controller options.
Even though I've already played Metroid Prime on Gamecube, on Wii, and with a mouse & keyboard and with twin stick controls, I still got the remaster and am loving it. I also like Prime 2 more and am hoping to see people give it a chance if it gets remastered. When I replayed the trilogy on their hardest difficulty this was surprisingly the most balanced and fun. You lose health quickly but health pickups are much more generous. There's no sections like the Phazon Mines where it's difficult to avoid damage and near impossible to recover more than 1 or 2 E tanks. On Hard, bosses in Prime 1 just took 4 times longer while in Prime 3 they required ridiculous accuracy to hit tiny weak spots that open and close at random. This is also one of the few 3D remasters from Nintendo where I like the graphical and gameplay changes. I just stick with the original versions of SM64, OOT, MM and WW. Any problems I had with them are fixed with the source port or even just action replay codes.
The remaster couldn't have been announced at a better time. I strongly doubt your goal with this channel is to be "The Metroid Guy", but man you do a good job providing your thoughts and analysis on them.
Yeah, my plan was to start branching out after the Prime trilogy videos, but I couldn't hold back my happiness about the remaster. This will probably mark the beginning of a Metroid video drought on my channel, though. I appreciate the kind words!
The original seems to hold up really well as someone who didn't play it. The updates to the game are awesome and I live the game, Even some features are impressive even to this day especially back on GameCube and even now on switch. I was actually gonna see if I could borrow some footage from you for a video on the game because I sadly have no way of recording switch footage. Great video as always man, Keepem coming 🤘.
For all the details they retouched and added, they missed one of the most important ones. How the beams light up the environment. Play the versions side by side and it is clear that in motion the GC version still comes out on top.
I'm so glad they included options for GC, Wii and dual stick controls, that was my one wish. Dual stick is fine, but I still prefer GC style. It just doesn't feel right in this version, though. There's no analog on ZL and ZR and since the left stick has a circular gate instead of octaganal, it makes it more challenging to hold straight up to simply walk forward instead of turning. I hope they add a deadzone option to make that less touchy, but I kinda doubt it. Aside from the credits snubbing, it's my only real complaint, so I'll still probably play this version until the next time it gets ported to something else, but it just doesn't quite feel as good to play.
My biggest complaint oddly enough is the changed weapon sway animation. In the original game there was more of a sense of tactile feel when moving around because you would see Samus' arm cannon bob up and down. In this it's much less pronounced, making it feel stiff, and oddly enough, more dated than if they had just left it alone. I don't understand the change. Yet also oddly this seems to be alleviated with the pointer controls, which is my preferred way of playing anyway, so I guess not too much of a big deal, but it sure is an odd change for everything else, especially when the original weapon sway animation is still intact for the pointer controls.
The pointer controls with the joycons separated are God tier. They're just like the God tier controls of Prime 3. I can never go back to the dated from day one GameCube controls. That option on this is actually worse because it isn't attuned to the original controls using a GameCube. Wasn't that the point of it? The Wii's gyro controls were way ahead of their time. The Switch should be using Wii styled gyro controls more often. They're fantastic for Skyward Sword HD and now for this game. The graphics are amazing. Why aren't more Switch games this good looking and at 60fps? This remaster clearly shows that it is possible. I mentioned it earlier but Skyward Sword HD could have done more graphically. Zelda took until Breath of The Wild to finally nail character designs and to not have accessories look fake. That should have been done with SSHD. It is still amazing and frustratingly underrated. I seriously want that control scheme for every past and future Zelda game and for Prime 4.
the models weren't "tweaked" or "sometimes increased in poly count". The models, textures, materials, and lighting were completely recreated from scratch. What is retained from the original is a lot of the underlying code, after it was ported and updated to work on Retro's current engine.
An auto save would’ve been nice. In hard mode I’ve had to replay 10-20 minute segments multiple times. I had to beat Tardus three times this last sitting, cause I died soon after prior to a save room.
Now I want Zelda Windwaker HD and TP on the Switch. The fans want GameCube ports , they don't all need to be remasters just HD . I'm guessing that prime Echos & Corruption will be basic HD ports but sold as a 2 pack deal at $59 .
It’s games like this that make me buy different consoles each generation if I can. You really don’t want to miss out on quality like this. Nintendo/Retro Studios made a classic here.
Just a question. Do have a OLED Switch or OLED TV? The hard to see dark areas are likely an intentional design decision to show off OLED technology. I don't think it's a coincidence that Metroid Dread and the Switch OLED released on the same day. A better example of this is THE BATMAN. It's so literally dark that it's only watchable on an OLED TV in a dark room. It was such a problem that people demanded refunds at theaters with outdated projectors that couldn't properly show the black levels of the movie.
This probably should’ve been mentioned in the video, but I don’t have any OLED screens. It’d make a lot of sense if they built the lighting engine with that in mind, but I would still argue that there should’ve been a brightness slider. Interesting thought
With the brightness problem just hold the home button and turn off auto brightness and turn your brightness all the way up. For me its nice and bright and i never had a problem with the game being too dark.
Currently playing through it and I'm loving every second of it. Great excuse to replay this masterpiece and now it looks and plays better than ever. Only nitpick I have is, like you said, some of the darker areas are a little too dark for my liking. Here's hoping they remaster Echoes and Corruption!
I've been waiting years for this. Constantly asking people like. When is metroid prime coming to switch? Then I see on tiktok people playing it. And I'm like how? Oh they just put the remaster on switch. I was crying with excitement. And now that I've beaten it once again. Bringing back so many memories. The love for the game going strong even all these years later. And that they'll bring Echoes and Corruption to switch. I can't wait
i first started with corruption but honestly remastered fixed my issue with the game i honestly just hated the controls but the switch was able to for me at least make it a proper first person game and it just feels so good
You might as well go buy a swtich. I have an emulator but we're still awhile off for it perfection. Tired of messing with configurations just to play one game.
It’s a pretty perfect remaster imo. A remake could have fixed a lot of the map lay out issues. But it’s still one of the greatest games ever made, now just better. And on the gooooo lol
Such a great remaster. Looks and performs wonderfully, and the dual stick option works great (with a few tweaks in the menu after starting the game). Unfortunately, it also showed me how Metroid Prime hasn't aged super gracefully. Combat works fine, but it isn't particularly engaging or fun. Granted, that isn't really the point of the game; the point of the game is the level design and puzzle solving, which is great and wonderfully paced. The last few hours of the game drag though, as forced backtracking for Chozo artifacts is tedious, and then the game ends on kind of a wet fart with three okay boss battles. It's one of my favorite games of all time, but I couldn't help notice these things on this most recent playthrough. It has me hoping that Prime 4 just blows the other three Prime games away. Metroid is at its best for me when atmosphere, music and cool power-ups take center stage. Dread was a bit weak on the atmosphere and music for me, but it went all in on cool power-ups; so many power-ups were great for both exploration *and* combat. If Prime can pull that off while also retaining the proper feel of a Metroid game, we could have a modern classic on our hands. At the end of the day, the game is in the right hands with Retro, so I'm hopeful.
I hope we get a shadow drop of remastered Pikmin games. That's another series whose sales never matched the quality of the gameplay. I was shocked to learn that Dread is the best-selling Metroid game and its only sold 3 million copies. We're lucky we're getting a Prime 4 or anything Metroid related when games like Mario Kart 8 and Animal Crossing due 30+ million in sales.
It was awesome, I tried it twice on GameCube, got stuck on phazon omega Boss first time, then I gave up after trying the last Boss. This time, I beat it all 💪🏻⚡⚡😁 such an amazing game
Before the Prime remastered reveal, I was extremely sceptical on how retro/nintendo would create prime 4 on the switch due to the severely ancient spec's of the switch. if the game couldn't run smoothly it would break emersion and that cannot happen to a Metroid title. plus metroid prime is a demanding game with sophisticated textures to set the atmosphere. They released the trailer to prime remastered and i now know they can do it. this remake is a spectacle to play and it should be the definitive way to play Prime 1. insta purchase. we ate good that day.
One thing we know about Retro is that they know how to get the absolute most out of any system you throw at them. My anticipation for Prime 4 only grows each passing day.
@@Gamxin i just look pokemon scarlett/violet and see the performance of the switch struggling with the game. i know they're open world but it scared me.
@@Nofappingh0es scarlett/violet performance issues were an issue with how the game itself was designed, not the switch as a platform. This isn't to say that the switch isn't getting old, but rather that s/v isn't a good performance metric for the platform.
@Nofappingh0es yeah Gamefreak is the popar opposite of Retro in terms of optimization. They're the pinnacle of complacency and lazy development. Any competent game studio could make Scarlet and Violet run at least 30fps and have every Pokémon from previous games like they used to. I'd even say it could do 60fps.
I am absolutely loving this remaster 😍 It was my first FPS ever and the puzzles and exploration made it such a great game. I also like the additions and little tweaks they made but I have to agree in some parts it is so dark I cannot see anything. This one tall cave in the Tallon Overworld is so dark at times that you really cannot see anything but anything else so far kicks me right back into my childhood it is so crazy
The Switch desperately needs more GC games. I'm not saying they all need to be remasters, but hopefully the success of this shows Nintendo that there is a lot of love for these games to this day and we can get official emulation akin to what they've already done with N64 and Gameboy.
So happy Metroid is going through a renaissance. Long deserved.

No HUD, magnificent.
Not "in some cases additional polygons". I don't think there is an original model left in the whole game. I could be wrong. But even the smallest details seem to have been replaced.
Just beat the Omega Pirate and now I'm running into Fission Metroids outside of the Impact Crater.
i recommend dual sticks with motion camera settiong on
Mic volume is great in this vid 👍. Just discovered you and love your content.
Hey! How are you doing?
Love your vids,Just subbed,i agree having already played each Version of prime multiple times
Doing pretty well, thanks for watching!
@@Kohana64 im happy youre alroght Also youre welcome, you deserve a lot of views 😘
Thanks for the kind words! I really appreciate it.
I do plan on doing that! Although it won’t be for a while as I want to take a break from the series
Metroid Prime is so great and so was this video. Looking forward to the sequels.
Thank you!
I like the new design tbh
I’m pretty sure retro added the change to the beam shots because mashing the ZR button to fire would become tiresome after a short while. Either way, it still should’ve been another option to choose
I agree, spamming a trigger isn’t as nice. I much prefer being able to get 2 shots off per click if I time it right.
im new to the metroid franchaise now and i just finished metroid prime for the first time ever i loveed it, cant wait for 2 and 3 remasteerd :)
I *think* you fire the three shots before charging because the Gamecube was analog while most controls these days are digital, but I don't know
I’m pretty sure the triple burst is taken from the Trilogy.
Oh my god…
Let's hope we see those two!
I'm hearing that we'll get those games but minus the remastered treatment. I really hope we do though, and if not at least give us multiple controller options.
I’d like to see your thoughts on the 2D metroids maybe even AM2R
Feel free to use any of my footage in your videos! Just leave a link to either the original video or my channel.
@@Kohana64 Awesome thanks! and of course.
i have never played a metriod games in my life.. should i get this? it really caught my, the visuals are stunning
Absolutely! As far as Metroid games on Switch, this is probably the best one to get into the series with.
Im really enjoying this playthrough of this remastered. Its so awesome really hoping Prime 2 and Prime 3 release this year as well.
Same. Bought digital on the Spot, getting physical later.
Dual stick would've been the perfect layout if there was an enemy lock on the left side like the OG
I played on switch lite and had zero issues with the game's lighting. Otherwise I feel like your review was very thorough, honest and constructive
Dude I was nearly crying!
I usually cry outta my trophy
OLED switch fixes the darkness issue. The game popped off the screen for me while playing through it. Looked as good as playing it on my LG CX OLED.
With the brightness problem just hold the home button and turn off auto brightness and turn your brightness all the way up. For me its nice and bright and i never had a problem with the game being too dark.
He’s playing docked tho
@@WillEnj0y well i play docked and i can still do that
@@spartanx1386 really? I’ll have to check then. I thought that was a handheld only thing.
@@WillEnj0y maybe, its just when i play docked i can see everything still
This looks awesome on the oled screen too
Currently playing through it and I'm loving every second of it.
The Power Beam's three shot burst can mess up your hits on Meta Ridley and end his vulnerability phase early.
I mostly just tried to super missile him as much as i could, and that seemed to work.
@@Kohana64 WHO THE HELL USES ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE PLASMA BEAM TO FIGHT RIDLEY?!
@@trashaimgamer7822 The super missile actually works great!
@@Kohana64 Hmm maybe but I prefer not having to make a detour to the missile station before the Prime battle. 😋
Admit it we all said "It ain't Prime 4, BUT I NEED IT."
i first started with corruption but honestly remastered fixed my issue with the game i honestly just hated the controls but the switch was able to for me at least make it a proper first person game and it just feels so good
Been trying to run it on a switch emulator on my pc and it looks great and can run great for a while until it runs out of ram and it crashes
My only real complaint is that motion controls don’t have any left hand options.
Most “beautiful” and optimally running switch game. If a stranger would want a full showcase of the switch, I’d show them this game!
Nice stuff man (new sub here)
In my opinion it would only be worth 40 if they added the cut content that would make the game 2 to 5 hours longer.
Prime hack with M&K, dunno it's just so much easier to aim with it, you can make shots that are nearly impossible with stick controls.
There was literally nothing wrong with the doors in my opinion I could always tell they were blue from far away they really didn’t need to change it
I hate ALL doors. 😠
Wish we would have heard anything about Prime 4..
Honestly, after this I'm happy to wait. I've got plenty of faith that the game will be worth the wait, no matter how long it takes.
It'll be here later this year.
Watch.
I love this game❤
Retro are game optimization masters, there was never any doubt for me that it's gonna look and perform incredibly
I am absolutely loving this remaster 😍
It was my first FPS ever and the puzzles and exploration made it such a great game.
I also like the additions and little tweaks they made but I have to agree in some parts it is so dark I cannot see anything.
This one tall cave in the Tallon Overworld is so dark at times that you really cannot see anything but anything else so far kicks me right back into my childhood it is so crazy
heck ya fellow prime 2 lover
Based
We didn't get more polygons in some cases. We got them in all places.
The Switch desperately needs more GC games. I'm not saying they all need to be remasters, but hopefully the success of this shows Nintendo that there is a lot of love for these games to this day and we can get official emulation akin to what they've already done with N64 and Gameboy.
Still a masterpiece
