With 8 Deluxe having Booster Courses giving us returning tracks, I imagined that each pass would give us new parts for kart customization. The Animal Crossing and Zelda DLC from the Wii U version of 8 did give us car parts, so why didn’t the Booster Course Passes do the same?
15:21 "On the polar opposite..." *begins talking about a snow level* Bro. You did not just make that pun. Instant subscription.
My take is that I've always loved how the series runs at a steady 60 frames. Well, at least that's what I remember about Prime 1. But I did buy Prime 2 for the GameCube before my Wii and Wii U days xD
I have to disagree with the pacing. You don't have to do all three stars of a bigger galaxy back to back. You are free to play other bigger and smaller galaxies' missions in between however you want, which provides more than enough thematic variety IMO. Most other Mario games have even less thematic variety because they have more levels/missions in their respective worlds combined with no way to choose another world to switch things up for a bit. You're basically stuck there until you're done with its requirements. This accounts for most 2d Mario games, Mario Sunshine, and Odyssey. However, in Mario Galaxy, you have a lot of freedom in the order you play the game's levels. Moving on to the comets, the only comets I don't like are the speedrun ones which are too generous with the time they give you. The race, fast foe, and daredevil comets change things up enough IMO and most of them only take place in one specific area in their respective galaxy. The purple comet missions can be tedious but most are fun and challenging, and some even add extra exploration to the game. Overall, the game's pacing is perfectly fine, it just may depend on how you approach the levels.
33:00 there's actually another level like matter splatter in ghostly
I’ve never even owned a Wii before but just imagining the whole plot and the star festival theme continues to give me goosebumps.
15:45 Fun Fact: This song is actually from 3D Land!
I have slay the spire on three different devices, I can see this being the same.
1:32:50 Probably because both levels were based off San Francisco
If there was a Mario Galaxy 3 for the switch I would be so hyped for that game. Nintendo make it happen.
Respectfully, I don't think that you can chock up wanting more defined dungeons as strictly being about nostalgia (it's def present of course). Open worlds necessarily have looser narratives than more bounded styles of games. If you can go anywhere, anytime, and do anything, you can't tell a more cohesive grand story. You can do episodes, sure, but serial storytelling relies on greater structure in order to make sense. I appreciate the fun of fetch quests and killing things, but I play videogames primarily for their fantastical and immersive qualities (besides platformers of course). I'd love for Zelda to continue to combine these concepts and refine them because I love the scale of more open worlds but I need stronger stories.
Mario collects a lot of Rings.
31:20 Funnily enough that blue coin in Ricco Harbour actually does have a hint! The NPC near the wall tells you there is something suspicious about the wall.
Balatro is one of those games that doesn't sound fun to me on paper but then you see it for yourself and suddenly five hours have gone by and you forgot about your own existence.
This game is terrifying I know I will get an addiction to it just like I got with Slay the Spire if I play it
While Donkey Kong Jr was chosen for Super Mario Kart over regular Donkey Kong, it’s notable that he would look like this at all because Donkey Kong Country hadn’t released yet. Afterwards, Rare’s DK design would become the default going forward
You might be right, but they picked Louis and Pierre for the Stardew skin and that means it's destined for the bottom tier.
BALATRO GOTY I AGREE
The subtitles block the whole video. You can’t read past the second paragraph.
Should be fixed now, sorry about that!
You win. I’ll buy the game. If I become Balatro-pilled it’s your fault.
Downloaded this on my phone. Correctly assumed I would want to have access to this at literally every possible moment
Gah damn those subtitles 😂
This game really feels like worthy of being nominated for Game of The Year, because of making a really good twist on card games. I would like to shout out the youtuber "Mark Haha" for doing a livestream of this game, that really was interesting for me to watch.
At this point I'm scared to play this game because as a child I was always told to stay away from highly addicting things, but I can feel it calling to me
Balatro was my suprise game of the year, bought it around release and I sunk over 100's of hours into it.
I hope you do more non-Nintendo reviews/retrospectives like this!
I would love to!
You goddamn right it is lmao (slay the spire is honestly the only game that still reigns supreme IMO)
Bought it on my switch but still didn't have the time to start it
Man I love all three of the Primes its like trying to choose a favorite son you simply love them all equally
Super Mario Sunburn (A mod for this game) improves a bunch of the things you've named like the shine boot outs. It also adds to immersion by making it openworld-ish and it adds back stuff like a long jump. However there still are some fundamental flaws with the game itself that even the mod can't fix like the padding you talked about, my guess is that that problem came because of the limited development time the game had. Especially the Yoshi boat ride which is just horrible to say the least. Although the mod will allow you to retrieve shines out of order in some scenarios as well as access certain stages before you've unlocked them, be careful though because you don't want the final boss delfino plaza to trigger before you've chased down shadow mario with at least the fludd extensions as they will remain locked after game completion in stages because you haven't "technically" retrieved them lmao
One thing i wish more people delved into or were interested in was the skybox environments of the games. Not so much the artistic value but the actual lore implications and whatnot. A few favorite examples of mine are Super Mario Galaxy 1's Ghostly Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2's Clockwork Ruins, and Bowser's Final Reactor. All of them have a large and grandious setting thats almost mysterious, and I want to explore more of
the leaps in every generation of gaming in this era was so nuts...SMS was only like 15 years removed from SMB1. Same difference between now and Galaxy.
In retrospect, i think this game is overrated and obviously lacks polish due to the insane deadline, which brought me some of the most frustrating moments in my gaming life, like frequently encountering dark commando while backtracking.
11:40 You can play Grand Prix with 2 players...
L take on 64 Rainbow Road
Fan of the channel but SNES and N64 reviews within this video feels like "milennial plays a game that was released before he was born and judges it by more modern standards". The gameplay footage shows a novice who hasn't put in enough time to learn how to play it properly before judging it (drives off edge of track and blames the controls)
This guy has potential but it just feels like he’s reading from a word document
Great video! The line at 8:48 is a casual bit of genius - quite possibly the best possible way to differentiate what makes a 2D mario from a 3D mario
thiis was the first game i played, and i still have it in my heart as one of my happy childhood memories
Great video. This is a love letter to a great game - reminds me of Skill Up's Red Dead 2 video. Good job!
I can't lie, I don't know how anyone's game isn't DS DS is basically what made the series *what it is* Also, it's mission mode is a unique feature that is 2nd to none
Echoes of Wisdom is traditional mostly imo
Galaxy 2 is probably the best gameplay wise but the story feels incredibly generic compared to Galaxy 1. Something about the comet observatory and Rosalina’s story really left the big impression on me.
Blue comment how lucky!
Metroid prime 2 did look better than halo 2
By far
Metroid prime: so hot
I would recommend giving the A Link to the Past Randomizer a try if you'd be interested in playing the game with a twist, where the entire game world is turned into a new puzzle every time. 17:08 Bit of trivia: that's not Death Mountain. Death Mountain is the Dark World equivalent. The sign outside the cave entrance to the mountain was mistranslated, so all of us playing the English-language version of the game have just been unaware of that it's actually Hebra Mountain(s). This has been fixed in Echoes of Wisdom. 21:00 This quirk is, of course, present for all enemies (especially jumping enemies) in the game. It's something you get used to dealing with but, honestly, they should have just deactivated Arrghus's hitbox while it did its jump and fall animations.
I want them to go back to making ACTUAL dungeons like LTTP & OOT & MM. With TOTK being such an awesome upgrade from breath of the wild and being what we all wanted size wise... We should get another zelda game with a pretty good size, but give us like 20 very big dungeons that are very unique in their own way. I wish they wouldv gave us more dungeons in totk vs more of those shrines.. it got so repetitive. I want them to really go hardcore with the dungeons in the next game, while still giving us a giant world to explore and still have TONS of secrets to discover
I guarantee if they remade this game with totk visuals and size... it would be the best zelda game ever made. Link to the Past had the BEST dungeons and secrets out of the entire franchise IMO. It truly felt amazing finding a new item knowing it can do something to help progress further. The whole upgrades to the shield, sword, and tunic was also very cool too. LTTP was far beyond its time.
A true goat 🐐
Prime 2 is goated, I hope they remaster it
