      @@The_Planted_Eye_1 no worries at all, it all comes with experience, especially with trial and error. I no way deem myself an expert either! That is fantastic - I advocate highly for that approach as I'm definitely more of a quality over quantity when it comes to my own personal collection (as I like to ensure that I give enough dedicated attention, as some have different care needs). My biggest regret is my calethea white fusion (or the great white confusion they sometimes call it 🤣). I still haven't nailed the care on it yet due to its intricate humidity needs but it also was destroyed by spider mites so this recovery is an extreme slow upwards battle that I've been fighting to more than half a year now ... I would also love to know what your favourite is and your regretted plant is!

    • @The_Planted_Eye_1
      @The_Planted_Eye_1 2 роки тому +1

      @@simpleplanty The white fusion is a beautiful plant that I have been afraid to take on because of what I have heard about its care requirements . I have failed twice (going on 3) with the whitestar but am committed to making it work by any means necessary lol. As for my favorite its a toss up between Sansevieria Fernwood , the Calathea Rattlesnake and the Black Cardinal philodendron. As for the least favorite/one I regret. It wpuld be the Fiddleleaf Fig. Not as drawn to it as I originally was. Crazy thing is that it is the best growing one that I have aside from the Kimberly Ferns that I have.

    • @simpleplanty
      @simpleplanty  2 роки тому +1

      @@The_Planted_Eye_1 and you definitely didn't hear wrong about the white fusion! One of the most fussy, finicky calathea's I have ever owned! The whitestar foliage is amazing - you got this! Out of your favourites list, I'm really liking the Black Cardinal Philodendron - something about glossy/dark leaves which attracts me! There was a massive hype of the Fiddle's that I never actually hopped on - and known to be a little hard for some, so I'm sure you'll get the whitestar care down pat in no time. Have you got a monstera deliciosa? I think they'll always have a special place in my heart due to it being one of the first plants I owned and how easy their care is.

      @@missa6782sounds amazing to have that peace, quiet and serenity amongst the chaos that general cities can bring! Glad you are enjoying it. 4 months with no growth does sound a little too long, however it has been winter so naturally it will slow down a bit. 2 tips I have for you here is double check your watering - do you have your monstera in a pot with drainage holes where you can water until the water drains all the way to the bottom? (Make sure you discard the excess of course) I'm only double checking this because a friend of mine wasn't watering her plant enough and it stopped producing leaves for quite awhile. The second tip is adding a bit of fertiliser with NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) - my favourite one is by the plantrunner which has a great ratio. Dilute this into your watering and your monstera may give you a surprise in the coming Spring months 😊 let me know how you go 🤞🤞🤞

      Hi Sumit! You definitely can! You can cut it up and then put it in your preferred substrate after. Specifically for my MTC in this video, I won't be cutting it up just yet because I want it to grow larger before I start propagating/creating new plants :)

  • @mayac2266

    What is the benefits of air layering? I’ll it help grow bigger leaves? I thought people do that cause they want to prepare root before propagation so the cuttings will be stronger

    • @simpleplanty
      @simpleplanty  2 роки тому

      Hi Maya! You're right, air layering is a great method of preparing your plant for propogation as the moss will promote root growth whilst still benefiting off the mother/main plant, so it could be chopped up later, if I wanted to propogate it. Just based on my personal experience, my pole full of sphagnum moss has helped my plant grow larger leaves, so in turn, I'm air layering to promote overall growth and in turn, helps growing larger leaves. You should give it a try!

      What about coco pole they sell on Amazon. Are those pole good too? Just too lazy to make my own 😂

    • @simpleplanty
      @simpleplanty  2 роки тому

      @@mayac2266 are they 'coco coir' poles? They won't be the same because the roots will need to latch into sphagnum moss, whereas they won't be able to do that wild solid coco coir. If you send me a link, I can take a look!

    • @mayac2266
      @mayac2266 2 роки тому +1

      @@simpleplanty another thing is my plants are small right now like 9-12 inch tall so I put in 4 inch pot. If I make my own moss pole it would have to be small and when I repot then I need bigger and taller pole. So I have to get the aerial roots out of the small pole and stick it into the big one? And would it damage aerial roots? Thanks so much for your answer 🙏🙏🙏

    • @simpleplanty
      @simpleplanty  2 роки тому +1

      @@mayac2266 Hi Maya - currently if your plants are in a small 4 inch pot, better off waiting until they're ready to be repot into a larger one and fixing it to a moss pole then. As they outgrow the pole and get taller, usually you could either extend the pole by adding more length to the top with more moss or cutting the pole and replanting it as a propogation to avoid tedious pulling out of aerial roots. Hope that helps

    Can you show me some after photos of someone's plant that they did this to? I am desperately trying to make my monsteras have close together multiple nodes from each stem to achieve a full and bushy plan. Will this increase the number of leaves or just the size of them?

    • @simpleplanty
      @simpleplanty  Рік тому

      Hi Megan - I believe the internodal spacing on a Monstera will actually vary between types, whereby a Monstera Thai Constellation generally has very close nodes, and a Monstera Deliciosa/Borsigiana have them further apart. I would think the best you could to from a growth perspective, is ensuring it has adequate light, water, growing conditions, etc, so that way it isn't looking as 'leggy' and 'sparce'. Otherwise, what I have for my Deliciosa (and luckily, was purchased with two root systems already) is to replant a propogation into the same base, to achieve this look. Hopefully this makes sense and helps 😊🌱
