I have a 2024 Type S in Tiger Eye Pearl as my daily. My weekend car is a 2007 S2000 Berlina Black, stock, mint. Great combo and both cars get compliments from random strangers all the time. No car is perfect but this was the one for me.

Wow!! First, I appreciate your great taste! Second, I’m rather jealous. But, if I saw you driving either car, I would give a compliment as well. :-)
I have a 2001 CL type S, the first type S Acura made. It’s obviously not a performance car compared to yours, but its engine still sounds marvelous after 24.5 years of existence. I hope in 2026 that I can afford a 2025, used TLX type S. And I’ll keep my old one. :-) And then a few years after that get an electric Civic or something responsible for the planet!

On 12.26.24, I took delivery of a luxury midsize sedan as my daily. I have an S2000, so I looked at this trim level of the TLX. I really loved it but ultimately got a more serene midsize sedan. Great car, great AWD system, great interior and stereo too. This was a close second but didn’t fit the vehicle use case I was looking for. Nice review too.

@ I have a bone stock 2007 AP2. Silverstone grey with two tone red and black leather interior. Only mods are Wilton wool black full length floor mats and Honda OEM titanium shift knob. 40k on the clock. Original owner with full service history. Not a garage queen but it doesn’t even have road rash on the alloys.
I took delivery of a 2025 ES 350 in Ultra Luxury. Tough choice between that and the TLX Type S. I ended up going for the ES’s otherworldly silence and larger back seat.
When I test drive the ES, I arrived in my S2000. The Lexus dealer really made a push to have me trade it in. Had to explain it wasn’t for sale. A lot of good memories - both of my daughters learned to drive a manual with my S. One autocrossed it and the other drove it through the mountains of North Carolina.
Still, if I was looking to get a performance luxury sedan it would be the Type S although I also rather enjoyed the A Spec trim too. Pretty punchy turbo 4. Both trim levels have a well sorted chassis which was surprisingly compliant in comfort mode. The torque vectoring all wheel drive eliminated virtually any hint of torque steer and help to bring the rear end around. In my humble opinion, SH-AWD is as good as the Haldex system in the Golf Type R or Audi’s Quattro system. I cross shopped both the Type R and Audi A4 against the TLX and ES.

Great review Jonathan! I also watched the 24 TLX Type S review and I bought mine in Urban Grey Prl. I love everything about the car inside and out but one small gripe you pointed out in your video. I have the 24 type S with the updated infotainment. why would they not include the option to expand the carplay screen when hardware/software all appear to be the same for 24/25 model. I really hope you can communicate to Acura to include this option as OTA or in service upgrade option. Its nice to see the carplay options on the 12 in. screen. Keep up the great content .

I have a 23 with the perf. Wheel and tire and I absolutely love the car. Some gripes I have with it is, input falls short against many competitors in its class due to weight, less HP and even having small space inside. Clearly the vehicle was executed well but not perfect and I believe Acura can make it right next time. It’s not a perfect vehicle by any means but what vehicle is? That said, the vehicle still has an amazing presence and have to admit, tons of fun !

@ I have the perf. Red pearl and I believe it only comes with the black interior. It’s actually my 2nd type s since my first was stolen. Comparing it to M340i, the genesis just to name a few. The weight kills this car a lot. All in all, if they can make these changes, it’ll be great. But I have to admit, as a whole package, this right here really is great for the money for sure

This is a beautiful car thanks for the review. I was really longing for the classic TL type s 6MT days when this was launched. A manual turbo V6 modern Acura sedan seems like a dream. That would be the only thing holding this car back from goat status. Not a fan of the high weight and packaging but a manual would rectify that. At least the integra line still has manuals. Cant win them all i guess.

Great review. Personally, I would amend "Name a Better Turbo AWD Sedan!" to "Name a Better Turbo AWD Sedan for less than $60,000". I would argue that the M340i/M440i is still the benchmark for the segment in terms of branding, performance and fuel economy; however, it does add a $10k+ premium over the Type S. (The pricing on the Type S is a great value and is on par with the 330i and IS350 AWD F-Sport, neither of which can touch the Type S when it comes to performance).
I will say that I think the TLX is the best-looking offering in the segment....likely my bias as an A-Spec owner.

The TLX Type S is a great competitor to the $55,000 Genesis G70, and the discontinued Stinger GT. I think the Fully loaded M340i is a good comparison too, but it's like an extra $15k on top of the TLX. The G70 is a a couple car length faster but not much.

TLX-S is an awesome car. I've driven a couple and they are a complete, engaging driving package. The road presence is menacing (in a good way) and SH-AWD is criminally underrated by those who don't know Acuras. In this car, SH-AWD makes ordinary drivers feel like they have Senna's driving skills🤣. Glad to see 360 degree cams and the CarPlay changes. I ended up in an ITS ultimately because once that was announced as a manual, that sealed the deal for me. Also, you can fit adult human beings more comfortably in the ITS rear seats 🤣. @Drive_Culture You're a Honda / Acura fan and your reviews - comments reflect that (bias).. No, I drove the TLX-S numerous times and no matter how hard I tried to be okay with it, it just kept falling short. This vehicle would have been perfect if it didn't have an "S" badge and wasn't so heavily advertised as some 4 door NSX by Acura's marketing team. Honda should go back to their roots of what made them great from the 90's to the early 2000's. Their competition keeps moving forward with better offerings, even if it costs more. Acura is no longer a value brand.. Why pay 9-10K more for a base MDX vs the Pilot? For slightly more quieter ride and dwb front suspension? That's not worth the price difference. Or $32,500 from an entry level pilot to the MDX-S starting prices.. That's not a small difference. Enough to buy another honda. Everyone keeps talking about the competition costing more, then why did I get 9% off a custom order brand new X5 and 2% on a G80 M3? Acura didn't bother to budge below MSRP and that was 4x different dealerships that were acting as if these were made of a rare material. One dealership had some BS markups on all type-s trims. So in the end, they push their customers to buy the competition as it has more to offer.

It's great if you like the TLX, I personally find it to be the best looking of the bunch, but for the price, the BMW/Genesis/Kia are much better engineered cars based on proper RWD architectures. A FWD based one (like the TLX) just doesn't cut it for anything that wants to brag about performance, let alone luxury.

It was a good sedan, but they never updated the interior or tech to compete in the segment! As for TLX Type S, like most cars, I’d recommend changing brake pads & fluid before a track day!
