Here’s our review of WRC 10 on Nintendo Switch. Apologies the all patched Up Episode got pushed back to Friday. Something to look forward to for sure! Seeeeya! Mark
It all depends on the current budget that Nintendo gives to the game developers, the tech that the developers have to work with par the hardware the switch has so they can manage to run it,and well thats the end product that we receive, considering that cd project red, those guy made a heavy title and cram it on a small cartridge, but in the end ,the last words are in nintendos hands.
Hm sure.. but grid never came close to something like wrc in terms of trying to simulate actual physics of the car road tires suspension etc. Was more scripted simcade allthough i wouldnt consider a wrc as much of a sim as ac or acc or even beamng and the likes. Grid is more drifters game imo. Kind of like forza. Besides wrc engine is not exactly super optimised. I had framepacing issues on wrc8 on a 3070 with a newer cpu so that being said, its no wonder switch version is so striped down graphicaly.. but then again grid used somewhat similar engine in the past if i remember corectly...
This review is a prime example of why I trust you guys as you’re not afraid to trash on things that deserve the negativity… like that graphics comparison hurts even as someone who doesn’t need the best of the best haha
I’d love to see a ps360 era DIRT on the Switch. Especially given the solid GRID Autosport port Feral Interactive knocked out. The same options as that game for DIRT 2 or 3 on Switch would blow these WRC games out the water
The scaled-back visuals this year have made the object pop-in and tree LOD worse, but reduced the distracting shadow draw-in that plagued the roads in the last two releases. I'm not sure what would be more annoying, guess I'll have to find out.
Damn it! I got tricked! I really thought that the game looks good on the switch. Was even considering adding this to my wishlist because of how good it looked, even though racing games isnt my thing. Turns out its a ps5 visuals. 😂
When I saw that first few seconds of this game with the car driving through the lush forest, I thought ‘No way’ in a positive surprise and then came the sound of shattering glass as the illusion vanished on your reveal of the Switch comparison of the same area, a barren plain with one or two trees. Oh how you teased us 😅
Out of curiosity, at the end when it states something like “if you’re looking for a racer with good visuals and racing this wouldn’t be my pick.” I’m interested in what would be your pick for that as I’m looking for a good racing game with those?
As a pretty casual Rally fan I bought WRC8 a while back and enjoy dipping into it for a couple of races now and again. Based on your reviews of 9 and 10, it doesn't seem like they're worth upgrading to for someone like me who isn't invested in the career mode
This is so carelessly done, I know switch is under powered but with some care you can get a amazing ports, Witcher is a example, these developers just can’t be bothered with it
i think as time goes on and stronger hardware are getting released 3rd party developer would eventually forgot about the art of customization, while nintendo's 1st party devs are pumping out super mario oddysey level of graphics
It doesn't look THAT bad in a lot of these scenes. However the bits where you just drive through an open field because they removed all the foliage is terrible. They definitely should've done something and maybe change the floor textures there or something because Colin Mcrae Rally 2 on the PS1 looks better in those situations. The game and career look very fun though and makes me wish there was an F1 game for the Switch.
I think it looks that way because that was the open-world map and is much bigger and is harder to render. The normal looked pretty solid for the most part.
Try rush rally 3 if you want an actually good rally game on the switch, that one it amazing! Also made by one person I believe! Imagine making a better rally game for the switch all by yourself than the developer trusted with the official WRC license 😂
I rather have low graphics it if means a good framerate. Nice to see that companies keep working on the Switch even when that means working a little more to port the games, they don’t really need to do that when PS4 and Xbox One and Series S are still viable options while PS5 abd XSX get into the hands of more users.
same! I like beautiful graphics as much as the next guy, but framerate is definitely more important when it comes to you know, actually playing the game. haha i play Rocket League pretty competitively and I absolutely hate the fact that they keep making that game more and more spectacle heavy and graphically intense. they could take the core gameplay, give it super low res models and textures (N64 game?) and it would be just as enjoyable, and even more so on low end hardware! And that's not to mention the abysmal input lag on the switch version.
Thanks to you, i got WRC 9 for $3.99 (90% off) and WRC10 bundle is $5.99 right now. If you see this, is that a good value, or still worth skipping? Visuals aren't everything to me, but it id look worse than WRC 9 in the review.
Aaaah, the nostalgia, I love these 2005 games... oh wait, no, it is just Switch in 2022. Seriously, as much as I like my Switch, these games are PAINFUL to look at. But I guess the OLED screen makes up for it (sarcasm off).
The all-or-nothing ZR trigger will forever be a hindrance on Switch sim/simcade racing games. I love that Nintendo-only owners get this option but if it's the same price as other consoles, then it's a no-brainer. Heck, WRC 5 on the Xbox 360 is probably a better experience than this - same graphics + same FPS + *analog triggers.*
try analogue right stick up for throttle and analogue left stick down for brake add 30-35 deadzone to the brake input. It feel natural and precise, i got hook by the game playing like that. The graphics are puke but when in the race and focusing on the road you get into it. Wish it was 60fps but it s ok and addictive.
Get 8bitdo pro 2 controller. Through their software, you can use analog triggers for racing game by swapping the right stick with the triggers. Then it all only depends on the game if they support the right stick for acceleration and braking
I own both switch and pc version of this game and I can honestly say that switch's limitations are evident on this game. I also own wrc 8 and 9 on switch, they're both OK, but wrc 9 is the better port. I don't know why they can't just port older versions. I got into wrc games when i 1st played wrc on psp.
Great review, I really like the WRC handling model so it makes me wonder which version on the Switch makes the fewest compromises visually? Compared to the other console/PC versions it can't compete, but isn't it still amongst the best looking rally games on Switch?
I hate to see people giving developers a hard time about porting games over. I think it's great. We have to of course consider the hardware they're working on.. . And even if it doesn't look quite as great, I think it's awesome that the effort is even being made to bring these great games over! I am the kind of person who also appreciates demakes, lofi music/etc .. . I think it's important to not be overly critical.. . And to have our expectations in check. I would like to see these developers being encouraged more than seeing people talk crap about the efforts that they made on this relatively diminutive hardware. I, for one, am grateful 😊🎮📺
That intro was all I need. The PS4 version costs 20 bucks. Usually I'm, fine with a little quality drop. but this time I will forgo portability. p.s. I like the subtle political message.
The graphic fidelity doesn’t matter much to me as consistency, pop-in trees and shadows are really bad for a rallying where visual reference points are so integral. (Also never used to be framerate person until Rush Rally 3 showed me it can actually hugely help reaction times) Still, probably going to pick this up!
The thing some people probably don’t understand is that framerate actually benefits gameplay, not graphics. That’s why I can’t understand why some people can be so superficial to prefer graphics over gameplay when they choose quality mode instead of performance when the game permits it.
After trying some rally games on switch in search of a decent one to scratch my off-road itch, I just got myself an old, chubby Xbox One (original model) with Dirt 2.0 and the compromises with the Switch felt even greater than I imagined. I'll just use my switch to play other games from now on :)
Thanks so much. I almost bought this game. Thanks so much for the first time I believe the trailer on switch 😀. In my head, check switchup .I live in a third-world country, and my in came almost 400$. I can't make mistakes like this because after that I can't buy games for months sometimes.
I play this a lot on Series X, and honestly in bonnet view the Switch version looks totally playable. But the Switch trigger button, I'm pretty sure, doesn't allow throttle control. Using the right stick as a workaround seems like it would be awkward in handheld mode. And the inability to use a wheel defeats the purpose really.
While I welcome fps over fidelity, we are approaching Playstation 2 level graphics now. I mean watch WRC 1 gameplay on Playstation 2 - it's lower res but more details. Maybe going for 1080p was the mistake here and in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires aswell?
I have this game and feel it is unfair to compare to a PS5 version. It definitely handles better than 9 and I'm really enjoying it so far. Picked it up for £32.99 online which I feel is a fair price.
i agree, the handling in the predecessor was horrible, even if mapped the throttle and brakes on the analog sticks. Wrc 10' handling is much more forgiving and less twitchy. especially asphalt rallies were frustrating in wrc 9 due to this. Finally they got rid of the absurd difficulty spike for each Rally. The pace of the AI in every Rally was so inconsistent, that it was necessary to always adjust the difficulty for each Rally. Some Rallies were way to easy, while especially asphalt rallies were frustrating. Sweden and Safari Rally were by far the worst offenders. Rally sweden is way to easy, even on difficulty settings up to 130. Always ended up with a comfortable lead(40 sec - 1 minute), even with a slower pace. Safary Rally is the polar opposite. Its just frustrating, especially on classic Rally events for some odd reason.
they could have at least implemented full cosmetical damage.. Never understood why they toned it down so much. it doesnt really feature complex mesh deformation like in dirt rally. Just detachable parts, scratch and bend decals on other plattforms. even mobile games can handle that.
The (pardon the pun) SwitchUp at the beginning got me. Also this port reminded me of the days of PS3 to PS2 lazy ports where they just alter the PS3 version for the PS2 so ugly looking graphics, oddly bright lighting and blurriness.
Holy crap I was unaware that there is going to be a switch version and that has me vary worried! I was pretty hype for the game and it`s setting, but the fact that there is going to be a switch version has me worried that either the map and amount of content will be vary lacking, or the switch version won`t be good at all... Saber Interactive are miracle workers when it comes to the Switch, but porting a PS5 / XBOX Series game to a system with 7yo mobile hardware sounds like a disastrous idea... Though to be fair I guess it`s being designed for the PS4 / XBOX one, with upgraded gxf for the new consoles, so a switch version would`ve sounded possible, if it weren`t a large open world...
I had 9 and enjoyed it a bit. But I do think there is room for improvement visually and they are just been lazy. The worst drawback on switch though is the lack of analog trigger which makes it impossible to really drive well in a rally simulation
Regarding analogue triggers: An 8bitDo adapter with a PS4 controller and a recent firmware (or a recent 8bitDo pro controller) can somewhat bring back analogue triggers if you use the 8BitDo Ultimate Software's remapping tools. You basically map the switch's right stick "up" as right analogue trigger (throttle); and right stick "down" as left analogue trigger (brake). Not sure if this supports simultaneous brake and throttle inputs (say, for left foot braking; or heel+toe downshifts in a manual+clutch transmission setting), but its at least something. Native analogue trigger and Gamecube controller support like in Grid (iirc) would have been great.
I've never been able to get into the WRC games. I remember trying one of the older games, on PS2 I think? Yeah, wasn't for me. I tend to lean more towards arcade style rally games like Sega Rally Championship, Rally Cross and Motorstorm. Have you or Glen played Rush Rally Origins on Switch? Is that any good?
If Dirt Rally 2 ever comes to the Switch, would it look on par with this game, on par with WRC 8 (the best looking out of all of them), Grid Autosport or would it look worse than any of those games I mentioned (reminder, DR2.0 came out in 2019)?
I also really wish there is another proper Track Racing Simualtor on Switch (aside from Grid Autosport to some extent). I figure RaceRoom would be the most fitting but even that game isn't on other consoles.
How do these people still have the WRC license? While I do feel that Sony had a bit too much of a stronghold on the gaming market in the first half of the 2000s, the PS2 was still a classic console and Sony made great use of the WRC and Formula 1 licenses! The 2000s may have been a bad decade what with Bush, 9/11 and the Iraq war and all, but at least the gaming scene was still good! Kingdom Hearts did a good job incorporating Disney characters into a Square RPG, SSBM is still a top multiplayer fighter, Blinx The Time Sweeper is an underrated gem, Fire Emblem made its way outside Japan and the gaming scene overall, for the most part, actually made sense! Shame the same can't be said about gaming now, with many companies relying on online only and microtransactions, freemium smartphone games making Tiger handhelds look amazing, digital store closures causing more games to be less accessible and company buyout after buyout after buyout!
The visuals make this look like a cheaper knockoff of WRC 9 but you won't be paying that cheaper price. I would say the best option would be to pick up 9 at its discounted sale price and go for 10 on another console. Now this is coming from someone who does not partake in racers such as this so take that for what it is worth.
It's a shame unfinished game was rushed to the market. God bless Valve for building Steam Deck. Once I got my unit Switch will be for Indie games and Deck from AAA titles :) not to mention by the time I got my one (Q3) Nintendo emulator should run most titles in 60 FPS or at least 30. WRC 10 looks like Devs cut corners to release this game asap, perhaps before Steam Deck start eating market share?
Even though technically everything eats into everything else in terms of market share, the Deck is barely out at all, much less readily available. It's simply a bad port of a game running on an engine that's ill suited for the Switch to begin with.
nintendo please on lords name when bring out next gen switch please add some analog trigger, or anything that we can add-on accessory when playing racing game.
some things don't look to bad but for some reason the trees look really bad. Either way as a fan of racing games might consider it despite potato graphics.
If you have a switch please only use for Nintendo games not third party if you don’t have much money get Xbox series s if you do have money get a ps5 I am getting a ps5 I am glad
I'll pass on this for the switch, I have a racing game on switch, looks alot better and plays pretty good and it was less than 3 dollars. Thanks for the video.

WRC 4 on PS2 actually looks better and runs at 60fps lol
Crazy to see a racing game look like that on Switch when Grid looks absolutely amazing.
Right!

Not sure if this supports simultaneous brake and throttle inputs (say, for left foot braking; or heel+toe downshifts in a manual+clutch transmission setting), but its at least something. Native analogue trigger and Gamecube controller support like in Grid (iirc) would have been great.
Do you guys know if these games support gamecube controller's analog triggers as grid autosport does
Better then I expected. I still think I'm going to get this one despite the cons! Maybe one for all patched up in the future? Cheers lads!
Hmmmm back here at $9 for the Delux edition... Hard to pass up.
Group B cars? Definite buy!
*brings back cars from 1997*
*brings back graphics from 1997*
I've never been able to get into the WRC games. I remember trying one of the older games, on PS2 I think? Yeah, wasn't for me. I tend to lean more towards arcade style rally games like Sega Rally Championship, Rally Cross and Motorstorm. Have you or Glen played Rush Rally Origins on Switch? Is that any good?
basically for me any racing game on the switch is unenjoyable because I don't have throttle control is either on or off.
I got grid in hopes of getting a midnight club remaster
Are all 14.3GB on the cartridge or is there a download required for the physical cartridge edition? What's playable without the download?
Graphics instead of lush highly detailed are minimalist / impressionistic / abstract/suggestive of detail. 🙃
Did they fix the crashing issue in the start of career, also wrc 9 looks so much better than on the switch
Is it a mobile racing game from 2010-s?
I wish they would make a Rally game with the Witcher 3 engine :)
Hoping this is available in USA
Time for that Switch Pro Nintendo
Absolutely but I think this is just poor engine/programming. Mark
I play most my racing games on controller with RT to accelerate LT to brake. Does that not work for some people? Lol
Is that Worth at 4,5 euro in offer at the Nintendo online Shop?
WRC 8 has the best graphics out of the series. Aren't graphics supposed to IMPROVE with each succesive release?
When your order online finally arrived:
If Dirt Rally 2 ever comes to the Switch, would it look on par with this game, on par with WRC 8 (the best looking out of all of them), Grid Autosport or would it look worse than any of those games I mentioned (reminder, DR2.0 came out in 2019)?
I also really wish there is another proper Track Racing Simualtor on Switch (aside from Grid Autosport to some extent). I figure RaceRoom would be the most fitting but even that game isn't on other consoles.
Assetto corsa mobile?
The screenshots on the nintendo store look nothing like the actual game. I was swindled
Got the deluxe version for only $5
OMG thats really low graphic....grid looks so damn good on switch.
Lmao! You're a right laugh. That comparison Switch 😂
At least this wasn't broken, for realistic race games I would prefer to do not play on Switch but looks fine
Visuals 10 seems pretty generous 😂
Visual and PERFORMANCE 10/20
These graphics look great for the gba! Oh wait this is the Switch?... ☝️😃
"George?" -Dad.
That troll was so mean!! I was about to open my wallet x)
How play rally without triggers?
Nice little touch to show your support by selecting Ukraine as the drivers nationality!
Absolutely
First I was like...damn it looks good 😆 🤣
But it looks like honestly a playstation 2 game 🥱
90% of switch games do though....
How can they release such a port xD
Well I'm glad i have a PS 5 and a Switch for this reason haha
Just bought this game in Jpn Region for 1$ 😃
If you have a switch please only use for Nintendo games not third party if you don’t have much money get Xbox series s if you do have money get a ps5 I am getting a ps5 I am glad
Yeah bro I got a great pc first a glad too switch is the last thing I have
Can you review wrc generation on switch pleasee!!!!
I caught those kudos mate.
I still play my car/rally games on my xbox 360 😂
I'll pass on this for the switch, I have a racing game on switch, looks alot better and plays pretty good and it was less than 3 dollars. Thanks for the video.
What's that?🙈
The graphics are not bad at all for the game to be for Ps2
