    I've done EXACTLY the same. Used to own a MY99 Classic WRX Wagon from brand new and then PX that for a demo blob WRX Wagon which I had to stop driving when I had surgery on my back. My son now has that car and LOVES it.
    I came across a 55 plate widetrack but not as nice as yours for £7k 18 months ago and bought it sight unseen. My intention was to create a V9 STi Wagon, which is the car that Subaru should have made, by putting the mechanicals and body panels from the STi into the wagon but when I've had a proper look at the STi It is much better than I expected. It needs a lower radiator support but apart from that there is very little wrong with it. So I'm now undecided. I have a wagon stripped in my garage which is on it's side having the underside completely refreshed and new sills put in but I'm now thinking that I will just restore that to standard instead.
    Great video by the way, get some more posted soon.

    It makes me chuckle a bit that back in the late 90s/early noughties these were exclusively the domain of twentysomething year olds and now most seem to be driven by middle aged blokes and lesbians :-) (I fit the former demographic btw).

    Just bought a 06 WRX STI, Rally Blue and gold rims 44k miles stock and very clean. For the exact same reason you mentioned. Everything is going electric, there will be less exciting cars for enthusiasts. The GR Corolla is pretty neat, but even that is a 3 cylinder and sounds like a baby farting. Nothing like the rumble of the WRX. My guess is in 20yrs these will be hard to come by stock in nice condition.

    • @FastandFun
      @FastandFun  2 роки тому +2

      44k is super low mileage. That will be even rarer in the future snd a sure fire appreciating asset 👍🏻 I drove a GR Yaris a couple of months ago for the channel and it was super entertaining for a modern car, but have to admit, the 3 cylinder noise is a huge letdown when you have a flat 4 boxer rumble! 😁

    • @peterhaubrich87
      @peterhaubrich87 2 роки тому +1

      @@FastandFun I checked out the Yaris video, looked like a blast! Would be lying if I said I didn't second guess my decision a bit for the $$ haha. Would love to hear more of your thoughts on how the Yaris compares to GD STI. Seems like STI is more raw and you have to control the boost, and revs more. Yaris has torque lower in the rev range which does sound amazing, and 440lbs lighter which seems like a big deal. Seems like the Yaris with that exhaust actually sounds ok, if a bit muted.

    • @FastandFun
      @FastandFun  2 роки тому +1

      @@peterhaubrich87 there’s a few things that jump out when comparing the GD STI with a modern GR Yaris. First is the size. The Yaris is supposed to be a city car but yet still dwarfs the mid-size family saloon car of the Impreza! That’s what 17 years has done.
      Secondly the driving experience. I loved the Yaris, was hugely fun but felt like my granny could drive quickly in the Yaris, whereas the GD STI is much more raw, on/off boost, knotchy gear change and worried that it’ll spit you off the road if you get it wrong! A more intimidating but ultimately more engaging drive in the STI.
      And finally the sound. The Yaris just doesn’t have that flat-4 warble of the boxer engine and is a huge disappointment. The owner of the Yaris had replaced the exhaust which helped with a bit of a rasp, but ultimately was still lacking behind the STI!

      Hi Curtis, I tried to establish what percentage of the STIs came with the Prodrive Performance Pack but I don’t think any records were ever kept.
      I’m sure any that have it fitted would certainly declare it on the advert as they are more desirable (IMHO). Historically looking at STIs on the market I’d “guess” around 10%, but that’s very much a guide that says for every ten cars, one is likely to be fitted with the PPP. Whether that makes them rare or not I don’t know, but certainly harder if you’re also buying a specific colour, condition and service history too.

      @FastandFun  3 роки тому +2

      The short answer is no, certainly not on the road, as your speed builds so quickly in either car that you’d be in license losing speeds very quickly. On track, I’d expect the STI to be a bit quicker through the corners (especially slow speed corners where you can get under steer in the RS Megane).
      It feels very different to the RS Megane. More mechanical (heavy clutch, steering and gearbox) and it’s super-short geared so your changing gear much more often than in the Megane. It’s also less progressive; if your off-boost there’s big turbo lag but you can feel it build and then bang, an explosion of acceleration before you grab the next gear which then lands right in the sweet spot of another wall of explosive power. It’s a great experience driving the STI fast …… very addictive!
