@RocksReview wb considered that he could win vs marineford and he was likely to do so cause they managed to recover Ace even tho he sacrificed himself to save luffy. Wb if not for the many unexpected events was likely to win. My man had the same injury that took down garp in latest chapters by sqwardo before even starting to the point marco said that even surprise attacks used to not work on him. And this betrayal was produced by akainu. Ace who was tortured and didn't eat for days blocked aokiji surprise named attack too. Marco kicked kizaru into oblivion joze was fighting toe to toe with aokiji. The heart attack of wb mid fight is the sole reason many of fights were lost in the pirate side cause at high lvl 1 attack is enough to take down a fighter like luffy vs kaido or luffy vs doffy it ends with one big attack. Garp was taken down in 3 attacks under a minute despite training and being healthy daily until now. Wb took 999 times that with disease and was still standing. So ye wb is not a stupid guy he know what he does thus to why he said to Ace to not fight kaido. Obviously some navy simps would tell you otherwise but the literal vivre cards which took 10 years for oda to makes tell us that marco is on par with marineford admirals so. Why have a yonko vs admirals debates when admirals are literally yonko commander lvl. Meaning u need like at least 2 akainus to even try to take down a normal yonko like big mom. Kuzan whom is his equal is stated as weaker than shilyu too
His acting was superb, a friend of mine has never seen OP before and she told me “please don’t tell me Shanks dies”, he’s a very charming and warm person, his scenes with Luffy truly make you care for him
Same, never seen the anime and I thought his character was amazing and the actor playing him was charming and his protective instincts over young Luffy were one of my favourite parts of an already incredible show.

Just finished the OPLA. Shanks is doing fine for who we're supposed to think he is at the beginning of East Blue.
No his acting is good for Shanks, a real life Shanks. Y’all so critical but ain’t even part of the process, enjoy it or don’t watch it. They are doing a great job with this series so far.

People need to stop being so harsh with their criticism. They are trying to live up to literally the best selling manga/anime on the planet. They won't be able to recreate it and that's ok. I appreciate the fact they're trying and will watch every episode.
Naah that's the thing. Shanks is charismatic. And shanks actor got that and is one of the best most subtle actors on the show. He gives off prince vibes. THIS IS NOT ANIME and it will ruin live action if shanks is over the top too.
Repost (but concerning Luffy):
There's a lot of inaccuracies in the netflix series that I can brush off, mainly because they put so much effort into getting it right and I love that! Mostly, it's super authentic to the original!
One thing I simply cannot get over is the portrayal of Luffy though......
First off, his looks: I like that they chose a Latino as Oda stated he'd be Brazilian and in the older anime Luffy used to be darker as well. However, I really wished they'd have stayed truer to the drawings since there's not many characteristics in Luffy's simple appearance, so it's crucial to get it right.
The eyebrows, trim down the eyebrows. Just a little. Doesn't hurt to not have it as bushy, that's just not how Luffy looks.
And secondly, it does wonders if they straighten out his hair and then made it a bit messy. That's Luffy's look. And it's not like it's uncommon for Latinos to have straight hair.
For young Luffy they even chose an actor who seems to have African roots....... I think the kid did well but that's just not how Luffy looks.
And now the mannerisms:
I know that it's super hard to get Luffy's personality into live action adaptation since he's just so "cartoonish" but some things just don't sit right with me at all.
His utter determination to become pirate king is rather expressed in moments where he is stern and quiet. I'm missing that part since the enthusiastic part alone where he shouts out his goal does not convey his indomitable will.
I don't like some of the writing like the line where Luffy says he senses tension amongst the crew. They try to give him more relatable real life depth but Luffy doesn't pick up on stuff like that and when he does he laughs his ass off because he has no sense of subtlety about that.
I also think they should've included more scenes of his utter stupid recklessness from early on because when Zoro and Nami say that being around him is crazy, I didn't buy that because I didn't see enough crazy coming from Luffy since Nami's and Zoro's lives are already pretty crazy.
And lastly, I think the actor puts in too many of his own facial quirks into his acting like winking, raising one eyebrow sassily or grinning in a cool manner. They all don't match Luffy because Luffy is childlike. He didn't develop subtle expressions like that which many adults have. Those adult traits, that extra level of social awareness makes the moments where he tries to portray Luffy's naivite and childlike mind far less believable.
Anyway, that's my take on it.
It's really been bothering me. 😄

Well shanks appearing as an older brother type of figure for Lupe makes the character more relatable to the audience. Somethings you can get away with in animation, you just can’t do in live action. Like the large then life characters in anime.
I wish ryan gosling played shanks then johny depp as gol d roger.

This was actually great for the east blue arc. We all looked at shanks as a big homie for luffy who made him wanna become a pirate. We didn’t know how powerful he was until they introduced yonkos and shanks was one of them. Just be patient
Early shanks was perfection, exactly what it was supposed to be his power was just rumored until war. There he made the first appearance as emperor shanks. Until then he's just someone luffy admired.just some uncle pirate shanks.
Yep yep, saw that too. He had his compassion and growth. I actually compared him to Buggy and how they separated in growth.

The issue with shanks in the live action for the most part fell on costume design. He played the role fine and is a decent looking guy. His costume specially the straw hat just looked goofy on him.
What really caught me off guard was black lucky roux
His acting was GREAT and so in character. Laughable and made me want to share a drink with the lad. But sick as hell and caried an air of strength and reselience with him wherever he went. He was one of the best parts of the sieres

Im okay with shanks. I think he nailed the acting. What I wasn't okay about was that one scene where zoro sliced mr 5 in half. That's not how zoro is supposed to be, despite how badass he is

That's enough reason alone to treat it differently than other adaptations. Being open-minded is never lying to yourself. Lying to yourself is making your mind up about something before ever actually experiencing it.
@@PANICBLADE you don't get the point , let me ask you is this shanks or every human is even come close to shanks the obvious answer is no , because even if he come close to his look he won't come to his character , and there is other issues that will make it even harder , one of them is the budget , in one piece there is visually stunning fighting scenes and one of the greatest world-building with lots of details also don't forget the unique designe of thousand of characters with different shape and size from fairy to gigantic , the closest live adaptation and most successful to fiction is marvel movies that after a lot of changes in the original , which cost tens to Hundreds of millions for movie , do really expect that they will be able to spend at least a million on every episode with thousand episodes , so it's inevitable that it will not come close to original, i am intending to watch it even i am aware of it is failing so i am open minded don't you think so , but what i can not stand is the same people that saying dub >=sub or this comment above they obviously have strong baise to their English, they trick themselves subconsciously so they don't realise that and when face with hard fact they quickly become irrationally defensive.

he hasn't had a lot of screen time, so that is something.
I'm honest his look is a little goofy. It bugged me in the beginning but I think the way he portrays shanks is very good and made me forget xD but his hat seems like it's too small in for him sometimes xDD

Tbh the Shanks actor is good-looking
He actually looks good and 1x1 in behind the scene pictures.
He was pretty humble in the first episode in the anime, as a matter of fact that humble behavior is what taught luffy a lesson and made his character into what he is.

I love the live action Shanks. He’s a great actor. There are just a lot of narrow-minded adults acting like little children who criticises him because of his looks. Compared to Hawkeye, Shanks had to look like a vagabond during the early days. Afterall he is a pirate that has been actively sailing while Hawkeye is actually bored because no fight can satisfy him after he lost interest when Shanks lost his arm. That’s why he looks clean. Shanks only became more serious-looking after he became a yonko. I wonder why these other so-called One Piece fans don’t get that. As a One Piece and Shanks fan myself, I think Peter Gadiot did a fantastic job!
