Nah.....if shanks feared him that much he would try his best to not confront him. But instead, he is tapping on Blackboard's moves all the time. Which we have seen in Marinford war when shanks came to stop him from rampaging. Also shanks came to wano to confront BB if he came to take the (luffy vs kaido) circumstancous advantage. It stated in the chapter where kid was annihilated by shanks. So it’s not fear it’s more like cautiousness, cause he knows what danger BB pose to the world balance.
I may talk like BB isn’t a great villain for One Piece cuz Imu exists, but that just gives him more of a reason for him. BB gives us a big bad that is the counter of Luffy in everything but Dreams, to be free (we still don’t know Luffy’s main dream)

I don’t think Shanks would think of the BB we know as all that strong. BB gave Shanks his scar long ago. Before Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu no mi. BB was comparable in strength to Ace at one point in the story, and has been shown to be beatable. WB would have killed him if BB didn’t have the help of his Titanic Captains. Ace was an equal to pre timeskip Jimbe. So you’re telling me that Red Haired Shanks is going to be concerned about Jimbe? Come on now. Even if that statement seems out of bounds, you understand what I’m trying to say. Shanks is on a different level than the Teach we’ve seen. The BB we’ve seen is most dangerous against DF users. Shanks, nor any of his top officers use a DF. Kaido didn’t want a piece of Shanks. Sakazuki didn’t want any part of Shanks. He was able to stop an entire war just by showing up. In my opinion, Mihawk is afraid of Shanks because as the “Killer of Observation Haki” Mihawk is unable to gauge Shanks’ true power, which Mihawk is said to be able to do with everyone else. The Gorosei have said that Shanks isn’t to be meddled with and that aggravating him would be foolish. These guys are the only people that have contact with Imu!! Shanks is levels above. He is HIM. There is something even more powerful about him than what we’ve seen on screen. The Teach we see is powerful in his own right, but he is far from his true power. This HAS to be the case! Why else would Oda hint at these strange things about him. Why would he seem to be a villain that will be part of the final showdown with all the other top tiers? The BB we see isn’t up to that level! He is strong, but not that strong. What could it be? Could Xebec be living within him? Is that why he can have two DFs? Because there’s another person in there?
