    Speckled trout are way tougher than people think. There was a great mulkti-year study that showed as long as there was no gill damage, the fish survived, if they had gill damage they died. They took them out of the water and wiped off all the slime with a towel and kept them in a live well for hours and they still survived. Everyone treats them like delicate flowers but they are tough.

    • @drunvalo
      @drunvalo 27 днів тому

      Not sure if they took into account survival due to damage to the mouth either due to horsing them in or for instance too forcefully trying to remove the hook especially trebles. Their mouths are very easily damaged and may affect their ability to feed effectively.

    I agree with you 100 percent, whoever came up with this slot for specks has never fished for specs. This slot limit is a prime example of what happens when feel good bureaucracy takes the place of common sense fishery management. Hate to see it here in Texas.

    As it was explained by a Texas A&M Galveston Marine Biology professor, even with losses it's just something that has to be done. Think about it, say 50% mortality rate of returned fish. Now if 50% were retained and the 50% returned died...the mortality rate just jumped to 75% for +20" fish. Cheers 🤠

    I totally agree. As usual though. The rules are made by non-actual participant people in what they are making rules for. Plus the worst part of that is people not following rules that makes the rule makers make bad decisions trying to counter that. These new rules will probably kill a goodly portion of the fish they are trying to save.

    Trout are more resilient than one may think. Many test have been run that prove it. So that is no issue. Obviously you will always have some that take it deep or some odd circumstance but you can’t make laws around the outcasts

    I would say that the regulations for trout are more directed at guides who take clients out. They catch a lot of fish and can put a huge dent in the big trout population.

    I voted against changing this limit, but it feels like we don't have any representation with CCA.

    • @rainbosprinkles6548
      @rainbosprinkles6548 24 дні тому

      Really. Did you go to any of the scoping meetings? Did you partake in any other surveys rather than the last one?
      I went to many, and very few people against the new regs were there. The new regs are a positive. The trout population has been decimated. The regs are long overdue.

    • @brogers114able
      @brogers114able 21 день тому +1

      @rainbosprinkles6548 CCA wants more money for the proper license to catch and keep less fish. How about they continue nursery efforts and work on improving habitats. It costs a lot to go fishing, and not everyone has time to go whenever they want.

    • @rainbosprinkles6548
      @rainbosprinkles6548 20 днів тому

      @@brogers114ablethe cca doesnt sell fishing licenses. The TPWD does. The CCA does a ton of conservation and educational work.
      Keeping 3 or 5 fish will make zero difference in yours or anyone elses food supply. Trout numbers have been on a steady decline. Over 2.1 million licenses were issued last year. Boats are capable of reaching anywhere in the bay system now. Every year more trout are being kept while oyster reefs are being depleted.
      It is an extremely narrow sighted, uninformed and selfish argument against the new regulations.

    • @brogers114able
      @brogers114able 17 днів тому

      @rainbosprinkles6548, habitat conservation, hatcheries, and good weather will do more for the trout population than reducing limits and slot size. Of course, the meetings have a majority of people like you voting for smaller slot size and bag limits. The minority opinions are always the loudest and believe they're the most important. You don't have control over anything else going on in your life.

    • @rainbosprinkles6548
      @rainbosprinkles6548 17 днів тому

      @@brogers114able as I've said, those against it only have an emotional argument. Can you make a logical argument t and then support it or is just about feelings?
      Point of going to meetings and being part of the process is to hear the points, consider the information, then make a logical conclusion.
      Those complaining now remind me of a woman. Ask her what she wants to eat, she doesn't care or say anything, then when a man makes the decision, the woman complains. That's you, right now.

    correct they shoulda left it like it was. 1.) illegally changing regs on us who all bought licenses in aug. 2023 to catch a 5 fish limit and then them changing while our licenses are still in effect? illegal. But alas it appears no lawyer smart enough is challenging it. 2.) fish populations have recovered from the 21 freeze and TPWD’s own surveys showed populations increasing and not decreasing.

Bull redfish numbers are soaring, dolphin populations are soaring and habitat is disappearing at an alarming rate. Also, fertilizer runoff seems to be a sterilization agent to trout.
