Loving watching you showcase Mauritius. Thanks for covering Chinese mauritian history and food as well! Our heritage is often forgotten except when people talk about our foods since we are the minority on the island. The tea at Pakistan seems so simple but it brings back memories for me. My dad used to take me there for tea and gateau piment after work when I was a kid.

Loving the Mauritius series. Hv been to this country two times and loved the place, people, food and the culture especially since I share some aspects of their food and culture. Centuries back, people from Eastern UP and Bihar were uprooted fm their homes and were sent across the Oceans to work in the sugarcane fields of Mauritius. Thousands of miles away from their hone, these hard working people adopted this place as their own and have brought their own culture and food to add to this country's rich heritage. These indentured labourers are called " Girmitiyas" and there is a gallery dedicared to them in the famous Bihar Museum in Patna, my home town. Hopefully you can visit thus part of India too to try the delicious Dal Puri, which is slightly thicker version of Dholl Puri.

  • @chucktz469

The diversity in this culture is amazing and it shows in the food & people. The chicken tikka sandwich will literally go viral in the states if Chic-fi-la or Popeyes had this addition to their menu. The stir fried noodles looks like a quick tasty snack that complements any choice of protein drizzled with vinegar or chili sauce which is my go to favorites for lunch. I love the Indian & Chinese influence in the cuisines as well bringing this melting pot to a bundle of joy. You notice each restaurant displayed takes such pride & care in the preparation of every meal served which is a clear indication of quality service. The last streetside vendor grilling the meats made me crave bbq so much I had to grill me some hot wings, burgers, & links for my Sunday supper lol. Mark never fails to get my hunger cravings ignited lol which I absolutely love!! What a substantial tour of this fabulous island!! Thanks Mark for another phenomenal well documented review!! Wishing you and your family safe travels and many more blessings always!! Cheers!! 🍍🍖🥩🌯🍛🍜🍹⛱

Mauritius has so much more to offer, including delicious dishes like 7 cari, chicken curry, mauritian pastries, indian food, chicken salmi, sagoo, and aplon, etc. It’s a shame these weren’t highlighted. I highly recommend finding a guide who not only knows the rich culinary landscape but also understands the deep history of Mauritius. This would provide a much more enriching experience. Glad you had some good moments in Mauritius.

Unfair to criticize the guide here. While I agree our country has a lot more than what has been covered, it is important in Mark’s journey to capture the right balance between delicious dishes and popular places to describe the Mauritian culture. For the other dishes, he will have to get invited in weddings/people’s home to understand/film the real culture; which is basically impossible.

I agree the guide did a good job previously but in this video, when it came to explain the history and culture of Mauritius, the guide lacked deep knowledge. He was unable to tell the years when the Dutch came, French settled, how long they stayed, the battle and how we became bilingual, etc. Mauritius is a paradise island, renowned for its stunning beaches, vibrant festivals, and diverse cultural heritage. Our history is a tapestry of influences from many communuties creating a unique blend of traditions and customs. Just saying that Mauritius was not given the recognition it truly deserved.
