    Edit - Correction, this is Pakistani music, not Indian... It was my first listen without any information about it first. Sorry about that! But all the things I said still remain, and stylistically it is very similar to Indian music.
    Original post - Another day, another demonetized video... Oh well. (it's not like it took me about 6 hours to do... I could have cut out some parts to avoid the copyright - but that would ruin the song, and there's no way I'm going to do that!)
    I really loved this song, it feels so deep and inspiring. Even though I don't understand the lyrics, it moves me...
    If you like the video, be an awesome person and share it around!

    So glad you did this review. I’ve been exploring the great music in Coke Studio (Pakistan) and Nescafé Basement for months and loving it. The vocals, even in fusion music very comfortable to western listeners, just sits on top of incredible instrumentation. A dramatic example of this is with Atif Aslam in Wohi Khuda Hai- one of the beloved singers in South Asia who you have reviewed a few times. Everyone will also recommend Bol Hu in Nescafé Basement, with a combination folk-rock and classical Qawali sound. And then you can find almost any kind of genre after you are totally hooked. For electronic, watch Abdullah Siddiqui in Resistance.

    Indian classical music is divided into 2 major styles.
    1. Carnatic - South Indian
    2. Hindustani
    2a. Indian - Hindu spiritual songs
    2b. Pakistani aka Quawwali style - Muslim/Sufi spiritual songs.
    All these styles are 100s if not 1000s of years old. There are ofcourse many more sub sub categories/styles that spun off and developed independently.
    For all types of singing the Human voice is the prime expressive instrument.
    The main connection to western is the notes. They both follow the octave system.
    Sa = Do
    Re = Re
    Ga = Mi
    Ma = Fa
    Pa = So
    Dha = La
    Ni = Ti
    Sa = Do
    There is a lot of emphasis on training and repeating of Ragas.
    A Raga is
    1. Specific sequence of notes
    2. With Specific intervals between notes
    3. Unique way of connecting 2 notes. Meaning notes are not sung distinctively and independent of each other. They are connected with a smoother transition.

    Chhaap Tilak Sab Chheeni , is a poem written and composed by Amir Khusro, a 14th-century Sufi mystic, in the Braj Bhasha, or northern Awadi dialects from which literary Hindustani language and Hindi and urdu evolved. Due to the resonance of its melody and mystical lyrics, it is frequently heard in Qawwali concerts across South Asia.Chaapp Tilak Sab Cheeni is considered as Amir Khusru‘s most known Kalam which is basically a praise to his spiritual mentor Nizamuddin Awliyah.

    These two are our greatest treasures. They follow the traditions of Hindustani Classical Music. It's like 'the all' resides in every note emanating from them. They are fantastic examples of sufi traditions in this part of the world. Borders of countries don't define this boundary less music. It's philosophy and spirituality and music, what starts where no one quite knows... because 'the all' is everything.

    Fact about Rahat Fateh Ali khan,
    He is Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali khan, Ustad is a title given to a person, who is a legend in Classical folk music, in order to get this title, These singers have to practice for many hours every day, for like 10+ years , every single day, they practice on notes, and then they are given the title UStad,
    So any singer you will see here in coke studio ,which got, Ustad in his name, that means he is a living legend. you will expect only perfection from him,
    And trust me, they sound even more great, if you will listen to them live.

    To understand the real lyrics of this song, you would have to study urdu and the language of the era it was written in.
    We have abida and rahat singing to the maximum level of human capability and you are missing it because you are concentrating on reading the lyrics which doesn‘t even cover 20% of the true meaning of the song
