- Welp, that time of year when Lionel drops the Big Book for everyone to view eh? Well, today we look at the Lionel Big Book for 2024, with 8 of my fellas as we look at what new items they have, totalling in 30+ minutes of fun in store. Hope you all enjoy!

@@NotDaender no there was this skit in a childhood show of mine called "I love toy trains", where a lashup of D&H SD45's driven by someone called "buster" would cause general havoc on the layout. these hijinks would usually consist of slamming into the engine shed at high speed.

Never thought Lionel would come out with an NYC 4-6-0 numbered 1244. Funny thing is MTH did that YEARS ago. And I love mine to death. Been with me since I was a kid and has been in my heart since day 1
the "Boxcab on a Flatcar" literally is just that. The "Security Car" as lionel called it sold better than the loco. Even modern day re-released versions of the security car sold better than the re-release of the boxcab

EMD F45/FP45, F40C, SDP40F (SDF40-2), F59PH, F40PH, SD50F, SD60F, GP40FH-2, GMD SD40-2F, GE U30CG, P30CH, Dash 8-40CM, and Bombardier HR-616’s.
All of them are Cowl Units, and all of them look great. Wether passenger or Freight.
Who here thinks that EMD and GE need to make Freight Cowl units?

The Lionel Thomas had to be re-done at some point because the chassis is absolute GARBAGE. It's all plastic so the screw posts can snap easily and only the rear wheel is geared so it's kind of crap at going at low speeds.

I kinda like the Halloween stuff. There's a narrow gauge railroad in Flint Michigan that decorates its train for Halloween so the idea of a Halloween themed train never seemed that absurd to me. Also in last year's catalog the "Transylvania Railroad" parody of the Pennsy was clever.

These fantasy schemes are giving me GeoTrax Deja vu. Fisher Price would recolor many engines and pass them off as another. I didn't fall for that gimick and only bought the ones in their original paint scheme except for Steamer cuz I loved it the most.

As someone outside of the US, I struggle to understand how Lionel stays in business, with all these pages of tacky bullshit (with some really cool stuff mixed in), like are there really that many people out there to fork out 1000s for some of these? I can’t help but feel other companies off better value for money.
There's basically only one other company that does O gauge trains. Lionel doesn't have much competition.
