I really like the Old Republic Hammer-Head aesthetic, the Valour is... interesting if not good and the SIth have those cool looking escort destroyers. Don't get me wrong the angry-grey-space-dorito is an iconic look, that the Harrower just perfects, but I do appreciate the variety of SWTOR... DISNEY.
Couldn't have put it better myself! I particularly like how those four legged walker from the republic look more like beasts of burden rather than the (equally awesome) tanks on legs of the clone wars era
Here's the thing, most people just want Ties, X-wing, and Star Destroyer in their Star Wars, unfortunately, and Disney knows this and that's what we get. I appreciate you not being like that and here is to hoping we get more variety.
@@DimaJeydar True that, stagnation is a big thing in SW and it's unfortunate. But, at the same time, think of it this way: how much have swords changed in the past few thousand years? Different metals and forging techniques, but largely looking the same, right? A pointy blade on a hilt. I think it's the same with SW designs. An ISD would outmatch any Old Republic ships because their shields and armor and weapons and overall systems are just way more refined, but the ship itself follows the same basic design. But it's obviously also just cause star destroyers are iconic lol, can't be Star Wars without that design in the minds of the writers ig

It's not - it actually is a custom vessel commissioned by the Imperial Intelligence in very low numbers. The lore pitches it as basically the most advanced ship in Sith Empire fleet, with powerful sensor suite, "next-generation" navigation systems, stealth plating (and even a limited cloaking device), and even engines and weapons far more powerful than one would expect (I think TOR Encyclopedia said they had a third of the energy requirements of equivalent weapons). At the point where they'd be replacing basically all components with prototypes, designing a yacht from the ground up to incorporate all of this was probably just easier.

My first character right after TOR launched was the Trooper, and I remember when General Garza gave me the Thunderclap. I called it The Clap for short, and I ran around everywhere telling everyone how excited I was that General Garza gave me The Clap.
On the matter of the Quasar Fire that you mentioned. It reminds me of how German shipbuilders that once built battleships now build yachts and cruise ships. There are also many other examples in history of companies switching back and forth between making civilian and military equipment. So definitely a believable transition.
You realize the German Navy still uses German warships till this day, right? Not battleships because those don't exist anymore, but destroyers and frigates.
He's also very wrong about Sorosuub. Espescially in Legends they made everything. They WERE the economy and basically the government of Sullust (And probably its moon Sulon but that was mostly farming.)
I like the Bounty Hunter ship. It looks like a rusty pick-up truck, I love the sheer character of it, plus the captain's bunk is just up from the main holo-projector so movie night with Mako is easy. I hate the Trooper ship. It's totally wrong for a military dropship. The folding wings would be a liability in the hot landing zone.
I hate the look of the Bounty Hunter ship yet I agree that it's very appropriate for the Bounty Hunter lifestyle. Edit: Looking at it again, the only thing I don't like are its three prong engines
@@DrakeAurum well smuggler ship you own at the beginning of the game, but it gets stolen from you, which is I think only class that technically owns one from the beginning.
I have a generalized grip with Star Wars' fetish of variable geometry and off-bore thrust lines. By off-bore thrust lines, I will say a TOP example would be SWtOR's Republic flagships. The main part of it is like a bivalve (clam) that has a tower of engines stuck to the bottom. By rights, the thing should ONLY be able to fly a tight loop, getting nowhere. It is like having your motorboat's engine on a ten foot pole stuck out of the side of the hull. Nothing but circles.
The Defender-class for the Jedi is one of my all-time favorite Star Wars ships! I feel if it could be scaled more appropriately (as opposed to the massive room/door sizes typical of an MMO) it would be the only ship I'd ever want or need in the Star Wars universe. Edit: lol, just finished watching the video and saw where you placed it. Oh well.
Yeah in my list the bounty hunter ships end drop last bar none, and the Defender-class would bein the top 3, though I would agree though with the top 2 in vid. And I like the bounty hunter ship design the least, followed by the trooper. Those ships were even the reason I had stopped progressing their story in the first place and only went back to those to just complete them.
I got into that last month as a bounty hunter -- I'll definitely try the agent next. Every time I got on the Mantis ship, I started thinking like Bob Vila: "Weld crossbeams across there, lay down some decking, we can get a five-story condo stack in this cargo bay."
The Fury is probably the most "Imperial" ship in all of Star Wars. If the interior was just a bit less claustrophobic then it'd be my favourite ship in the franchise. That moment in Knights of the Fallen Empire where our player ship finally gets hauled back to Odessen just had me grinning like an idiot
I love the Fury, XS Freighter, and D5 Mantis. Special mention to the fighters for both factions, they look amazing and bring the Z-5 feel and a nice mix of TIE and old sith fighters respectively.
yeah the Sith Interceptor is my favorite ship from SWTOR, primarily because my Favorite Classes are the two Sith Classes, just the aggression and snark the Inquisitor and Warrior can throw at their allies and enemies alike is really fun to me. plus I like electrocuting people.
I've been saying for years that if they had just put the class stories into a multi campaign single player game with all the mediocre mmo stuff cut out it would have been one of the greatest games of all time. Its a tragedy that a lot of people will never see those stories because of the mmo element deterring them.
yeah, even if it'd have been a relatively similar RPG control wise, it would also have massively benefited from not needing to scale the assets up so much for MMO proportions (the 'all rooms are built for 50 foot tall giants' problem), which gave them massive disparity between the visuals of different worlds- Tattoine I remember looking quite nice, in a 'slightly stylised' way, but anywhere featuring a lot of 'enclosed' areas just had a scale that flat out didn't work.
I think they wanted to cash in on that WoW cash pig, all the mmo's back then wanted a piece of the pie. That being said I did play it for a couple of years, and had a blast. Sadly the story "choices" never amounted to making a difference, something that could have been different in a single player game. But the game is free to play, and worth doing the story if you're a big KoToR fan.
Is it true then that you get so much XP, you can ignore the MMO aspects? Really love Star Wars, Old Republic is my favourite era but I hated it for beeing an MMO.
@@_Woody_ I have not played in a long time, but from the get go the game was built around the single player stories and added MMO elements so you could play the campaigns without needing to do any of the MMO stuff. When I was regularly playing I got 2 classes to max level without doing any MMO flashpoints. With that said the flashpoints are leveled based on level requirements for the world you're on so once you're a certain level ahead you could go back and solo most flashpoints.
I actually like the Defender Corvette. The back story of being built by a subsidiary of the company that builds Republic War Ships implies that it's purpose built for Jedi and not just a retrofitted Republic Ship. The design and name also fits the Jedi as ambassador themes that Star Wars has always gone with because it appears more defensive than offensive implying it was built to protect the inhabitants rather than destroy the enemy.
I've always loved how functional the Defender looks; it's a box with just enough flair to not be a box. Conversely, I'll never understand what you see in the Thunderclap. Every time I look at it, I think, "But why, though?"
I've not played in years, but when I did I always wanted them to expand on the ship combat missions. I know they were on rail shooters but they were fun, and had a bit of a challenge on the harder ones. I wasn't a fan of the pvp ship combat they added later, I don't think many were honestly.
The vibe of the Imperial story was definitely enough to make it one of my favorites, because you really did feel like an important yet miniscule cog in a machine that's always three seconds away from imploding on itself. Especially after Keeper's talk about how they weren't some huge organization of noble patriots serving the Empire, they were basically janitors who spent most of their time cleaning up the messes the Sith routinely left in their wake. Something you also get a taste of with the Inquisitor's campaign, where you see firsthand just how thoroughly ridiculous their infighting can get. To the point that a single petty grudge can threatens to ruin the entire Imperial war effort all on its own.
I’ve gotten into Galactic Starfighter recently and really fallen in love. I would love it you were to talk about those fighters as well! Thank you for this.
Thank you so much for giving this game and era some love. It’s my favorite era in Star Wars. while a lot of KOTOR stands justifiably dunk on it a lot, I still love the aesthetic, the stories, and the galaxy position that everyone is placed in. Average citizens/soldiers contending with waring space wizards is the best character perspectives and my favorite to Role Play
The Agent's storyline works so well on every single level. They have some of the most interesting companions (there's a reason the Agent's companions have such a prominent role in the Eternal Empire storyline), the quests in the main class storyline take some of the most intricate twists and turns in any game period, and of all the class storylines it feels the least like a straight rehash of other Star Wars stories we've seen before while still firmly feeling like it belongs in that universe. Also, the Male Agent's voice actor has probably the coolest voice of anyone I've ever heard in my life
It also has the most interesting light side ending. Becoming a double agent for the Republic was a cool idea. Wish we could have had that fleshed out more. Could have been a nice single player game.
One of the reasons, I can't find the reference but when they were developing the first story they created for the game was the Agents and they put everything into that story. They focused on giving that class a full Star Wars experience where light and dark meant changing stories... it was the centrepiece of their Alpha builds/production meetings to validate the insane amount of money they were getting. Then once they were proud of the story they wrote... they promptly split up the writing team and rushed deadlines to complete the rest of the classes. (OOPS!!!).
To bad I didn't like the Imperial Agents healing style had to many short ranged skills in it for me, but now with the overhaul of combat styles that problem is solved and I can fully enjoy him together with in my opinion also the coolest looking ship :D
To be honest, Agent's story was the second worst for me (Worst being Trooper) as it was the most predictable. For me, it felt like a Bond Fanfic written in Star Wars. My top story has to be Smuggler, followed VERY closely by Bounty Hunter.
You really like to nerd out about more than just space ships, and I think i'd like to see more series like.. Analysis on different Sci-Fi stories, their influences, their plot points.. Just cliff notes for sci fi in general to get more folks into it... I love that yall approach video games, books, movies, whatever
Aw yeah, Old Republic ships! Good stuff, underrated. I was positively giddy whenever I earned my own ship in the game, with the beauty shots and rising music... just full on geeking out.
My thoughts: Defender: a politicians ship, looks fancy, and those engines should be fast Fury: Idiotic. In a universe where the pilot relies on visual flight rules, you should NOT block the pilot's view Thunderclap: A soldier's ship. Utilitarian, with plenty of thought going into what a squad will need for down-time and for deployment Phantom: Really slick. The rich-man's touring ship. Mantis: The aging workhorse
Gotta go back and finish the bounty hunter story, I love playing mine as a huge cheese ball, makes me feel like boba fett from the robot chicken specials
Star wars: the old republic is a sad game that failled really hard at being an decent MMO yet its one of the best single player (and coop) experiences you can have, particularly if you are a star wars fan. I would say its a must play if youre into star wars.
Glad to see that the Imperial Agent ship and story line got shout outs, just started SWTOR for the first time two months ago, really enjoying the Agent story line, first MMO in a long time to make me feel powerless at any point.
I think the Jedi ship is the best, in terms of "what ship would I want to live on if I were a space traveler. I'd probably give it an exterior paint job, though. The ivory and brick red is... OK. I think the Sith and the Agent ships are the best organized for what I actually want to do on the ship though; the most stuff in one place without me having to run from one side of the ship to the other all of the time.
Although if I could do a fair bit of interior design to make the Sith and Agent ships more "homey" inside instead of dark and industrial, they'd be favorites too.
My favorite ships often have square, trapezoidal, and/or aft spanning engines, and they are angular and elegant. For me a Nubian-style Delta-7b Jedi Starfighter scaled to be a troop transport or special operations craft would be absolutely amazing. In this game specifically, I love the Sith and Agent ships the most.
They are just a fantastic set of ships, perfectly designed to capture the Star Wars aesthetic closest to the character class you're playing, while being original designs. And yeah, the Imperial Agent storyline is great. The main thing it does is make it feel like the Sith Empire would be a near-perfect empire if it wasn't for all the darn Sith.
Yes, yes, yes! I also like the YT-2000 - why? Center mounted cockpit! It retains all the other things that made the YT-Series from CEC great, but non of the things that weren't so great, like the side mounted cockpit :) If I wanted/needed a personal ship in Star Wars and couldn't get the Ebon Hawk (or another Dynamic-Class light freighter - which I also like!) or a WR-542 Shooting Star, then I'd want the YT-2000 (with some modifications, like a droid-brain that supports the pilot and uses the turrets and a beckon-call-system so that the ship can come to my location if I need a quick escape! Better weapons, better shields etc. are of course part of the package :))...hell, if I were a fleet commander in Star Wars then I'd ditch all the flying coffins (otherwise known as starfighters!) and replace them with light-freighters rebuilt as gun-boats! Why? They can take a beating, they are fast enough and they have living quarters so they can fly a constant CAP (and even follow the mothership into hyperspace!) and they are better armed than fighters! ps: Yeah, the Phantom is my fav. too :) - However I prefer the Jedi-Corvette over the Smuggler-Ship!
I always have described the Imperial Agent story as "What if James Bond had to deal with crazy space wizards all the time". I imagine that's a sentiment shared by a lot of people. I actually really enjoyed the Trooper story line, but only by kind of slipping into a "for the republic!" mindset.
1) *X-70B Phantom-class* Beautiful on the outside, gorgeous on the inside. 2) *Fury-class Imperial Interceptor* Cool and badass without being too edgy. 3) *XS Stock Light Freighter* A beautiful Millennium Falcon-like Corellian ship with its own twist and style. 4) *Defender-class Light Corvette* A sleek, sexy improvement to the Hammerhead-class design. 5) *BT-7 Thunderclap* Impractical and awkward on the outside, impractical and super weird on the inside. 6) *D5-Mantis Patrol Craft* What the Hell is this abominable eyesore? The only ship uglier than the Razor Crest (not by chance, both are bad imitations of Slave One).
Honestly I just adore every single one of these. Some of them even feel like they’d slot seamlessly into the prequels or original trilogy artsyles, and I can definitely see shipwright corporations making modernized reproductions, like how we have modernized reproduction weapons today.
This game deserves more attention, or honestly, a sequel. Best MMO I ever played by far, and it ties for the best Star Wars game I ever played (with Republic Commando).
If I didn't know SW:TOR came way before Star Citizen, I'd say the Phantom is a dead ringer for something from Origin Jumpworks, just painted something other than their usual crisp white. Very similar external design aesthetics to the 100i-series of ships (which are tiny 1-seat ships).
My theory on the Rendili thing: The Defender was a limited production run with a budget. It was transferred to the smaller subsidiary so that it did not compromise the production of other Republic contracts.
Weird as it is, I'd describe the Phantom in the same style someone described Zigzag the Great from Thief and the Cobbler: "He is simply a shiver looking for a spine to run up." The way I'd describe the Phantom being "It is simply a knife, looking for the right ribs to slide betwixt."
My biggest problem with a lot of the Old Republic designs is that they feel like you can place them in any era and they'll still fit, especially when it comes to the Sith ships.
Well, the Otana was a pimped YT-2000 - but I'd take the unmodified ship, too (modify it myself - or pay someone to do it, if it is too hard to do...then again: If the likes of Han can cobble something that works together, then so can I probably :) )
You are absolutely correct on the worldbuilding and class stories. Especially the Imperial Agent as you said. Mainstream Star Wars fans continue to sleep on SWTOR because it's an MMO and not Skywalker Saga Related, but it truly is fantastic. Even the weakest storylines outclass other star wars stories.
"Mainstream Star Wars Fans" - Now that is a contradiction in itself :D either you are mainstream (which means you might or might not like the Sequels!) or you are a (true) Star Wars fan and you probably don't like the sequels :)
You make a good point about the Quaser being built by a yatch maker. That could be politics there, the Yatch maker bribed the right imperial official to get the contract
Could also be a thing like the US Military-Industrial complex after WWII, when you had stuff like Chrystler being responsible for building the US's first ICBMs
Check out Nebulous: Fleet Command if you like space combat tactical RTS. It seems appropriate to mention the game here to fellow fans of space combat and spaceships in general
Funny you should mention the YT-2000 and how the various corellian light freighters always seem to be gunships in disguise...in-universe, they were ostensibly designed to be courier ships for dangerous runs, but by the time they were discontinued a lot of people had realized that CEC had managed to build the _perfect_ pirate ship.
Thanks for going on the tangent about the game! I didn't know you could effectively do it as single player now. I tried it a long time ago and it just stalled out when I did it by myself
Nothing has made me want to play The Old Republic again after 100 years more than this. Theses didn't really exist when I played, or at least not in the content I got to near launch.
You're allowed to deviate lol we love hearing you talk about ships, mainly we come for the ships, but your insights are appreciated too, even deviations :)
I know it’s not a player ship anywhere, but my favorite ship is the dreadnought-class cruiser; a cruiser that can hit above its weight-class & I like that.
Its pretty simple to rate. I kinda like when my character and crew is actually able to call the ship a "home". Which mainly leaves 2 questions open: Does everyone have a bed? And more important: Is there a closed door on the ship thats actually not the escape pod or obviously something else... so i can imagine a toilet/refresher/shower being there? Maybe even a kitchen or another closed door which i can imagine a kitchen in? Lets check this: D-Tier: -Defender: Technically a great ship. However.... your crew has to friggin sleep on the ground. They dont have BEDS... like wtf. There is however at least a single door in the lower part that "could" be the refresher/toilet. But better pray there will never be more than one of your crew hurt/wounded at the same time, cuz your medi-station only has one bed. Forget about a kitchen. But the atrium is pretty neat -Mantis: No toilet/refresher. No "Living room" for the crew either... not even a proper place to play cards or something. Forget about a kitchen. Horrible. C-Tier: -XS-Transporter: I mean...no toilet/refresher either... however.... the only ship with an actual kitchen. Its... okay i guess.... B-Tier: -Fury: There is actually a unused door in the storage-room which technically could be a your refresher/toilet..... also a neat living room next to the big holo-thing. However... you need kinda alot of fantasy to imagine that toilet at the end of the storage-chamber. Its fine.... at least it kinda works as "home" B-Tier: - A-Tier: Phantom and Thunderclap: Both are amazing. Both have that "Toilet/Refresher"-Unused Door. Both have nice living areas... both are comfy homes... Phantom is a bit more on the luxury side with its noble design.. however... the actuall living space is actually kinda limited if you closely look at it... the Thunderclap seems more "rough"...... but offers literally anything except an obvious kitchen.... but TWO!!!! unused doors which you can imagine being stuff in. So you dont only have a toilet, you even have a imagnary kitchen.
Excellent video! In the future I would like to hear your thoughts on some of the other ship designs that appear in the game. For example I find the difference in designs for the Zakuulan Flagship (actually designed and produced by Zakuul I assume), and the rest of the Eternal Fleet (designed on Iokath) to be an interesting topic. What would the Zakuulan Navy look like if they had to design all of their own ships instead of inheriting this advanced automated fleet?
What's put me off playing TOR is the MMO element of it, but if its been set up now for more of a single player experience then it definitely might be worth a look.
The biggest problem I have with some of these ships is how large they are. I understand it’s primarily for game play within the different ships interiors. I feel the massive size of the ships, mainly the mantis doesn’t fit what the ships would be used for. Another great video Spacedock
Imperial Intelligence: How are we to design our agents personal ships? Some rando: I found this vid from an unknown source. It has a cool looking wheeled vehicle in it we could draw inspiration from II: Whats it called? Some rando: Goldfinger
agree on the Agent ship, but the Sith ship is my 6th favorite. 6th: Sith ship 5th: Jedi ship tied for 4th/3rd: Trooper ship and Bounty Hunter ship (it surprised me how much this one grew on me) 2nd: Diet Ebon Hawk 1st: Agent ship.
The Imperial agent story does 2 things really really well and would argue makes the trooper story also really good, first is what's said about how basically shows military personnel having to take orders from magic lunatics that are obsessed with winning have to live and second is the muck of the republic. Both the agent and the trooper basically have to deal with worse of the republic especially the trooper since being a good soldier usually means giving up the moral highground on most cases which is more refreshing compared to the jedi stories.
The D5 Mantis used to find itself at the very bottom of my list for these ships because I used to think that the engine tucked up under the hull to land was stupid. And in a few rare cases, that still holds true. But once I noticed that the main thruster on that mount pointed downwards while landed, the design grew on me, because that would be really useful for rapid VTOL operations - perfect for a Patrol Ship or a Bounty Hunter's gunboat. Unfortunately, there is _no_ redeeming the hideous pile of scrap that is the BT-7 Thunderclap. Thing's an eyesore, design makes not a lick of sense, and the interior's a pain in my ass to navigate. My rating, worst to best: BT-7 > Corellian XS/D5 Mantis tie > Defender > X-70B > Fury. The Fury is probably my favorite design in that entire game tho, and the only ship that even comes close for second place is the Harrower.
The agent's ship is one of my favorites, too, because mostly you can look at the ships and say "ah, yes, it's evoking this OT/prequels ship and makes perfect sense," but you have to give the agent's ship a bit more thought, because the movies never really center that kind of character in any way. It clicked for me as a combination Naboo royal yacht and Star Destroyer, and the Bond car influence is very clear in that former aspect.

One real world examples, the Americans PBR's used in Vietnam where impeller driven, the water pumps were built by jacuzzi
The humble USPS mail truck is built by Grumman, the same Grumman that built F6F Hellcats and F14 Tomcats.
You realize the German Navy still uses German warships till this day, right? Not battleships because those don't exist anymore, but destroyers and frigates.
@@DevilSurvivor69 Frigattes and Corvettes rather.
As with the smuggler ship, I like that it's not something that's just issued to you. You actually go out and steal it.
I love that from the right angle the BH ship flips you the bird while landed.
For me it's always been between the Phantom and Fury, if I could combine two ships it would be those two
The Defender-class for the Jedi is one of my all-time favorite Star Wars ships! I feel if it could be scaled more appropriately (as opposed to the massive room/door sizes typical of an MMO) it would be the only ship I'd ever want or need in the Star Wars universe.
Edit: lol, just finished watching the video and saw where you placed it. Oh well.
Me, an Empire only player: "WOOOOOOOO! LET'S GOOOOO! GET HECKED PUBS!"
it's ok, I feel the exact same way you do about the defender XD
Yeah in my list the bounty hunter ships end drop last bar none, and the Defender-class would bein the top 3, though I would agree though with the top 2 in vid. And I like the bounty hunter ship design the least, followed by the trooper. Those ships were even the reason I had stopped progressing their story in the first place and only went back to those to just complete them.
It would be nice to see a reimagining of all these ships at a more realistic scale.
@@TheYdyp Bounty hunter ship can be improved with symmetry on the outside but the inside is really blah.
Trooper story is by far my favorite one. The missions and story are the most relatable and a lot of the missions are things we do in today's world.
yeah the Sith Interceptor is my favorite ship from SWTOR, primarily because my Favorite Classes are the two Sith Classes, just the aggression and snark the Inquisitor and Warrior can throw at their allies and enemies alike is really fun to me. plus I like electrocuting people.
Yes lol. Didn't play bcz of mmo. I actually watched the cutscene movies of these all 8 campaign instead
The Imperial agent Ship is beautiful, I love the look of it. It is what I would love to fly and own out of all the star wars ships.
Honestly I've always loved the Defender! I understand the dislike, but it's always had a size and silhouette I've liked
I find the storyline doesn't work that well on repeat playthoughs, especially when you know what's coming.
To be honest, Agent's story was the second worst for me (Worst being Trooper) as it was the most predictable. For me, it felt like a Bond Fanfic written in Star Wars. My top story has to be Smuggler, followed VERY closely by Bounty Hunter.
The Imperial spy ship looks like something from star citizen, based on the blackbird sr71!
my first thought was that it has to be made by origin
We all know how long Star Citizen is in development, but SWTOR is still a bit older ;)
I also always think of the blackbird when looking at this ship. The Aston Martin never came to my mind at all but then I'm really not into cars.
Speaking of space yachts, I'd love to see a few more Star Citizen videos from you.
I was thinking the phantom looks like an Origin ship
My thoughts:
Defender: a politicians ship, looks fancy, and those engines should be fast
Fury: Idiotic. In a universe where the pilot relies on visual flight rules, you should NOT block the pilot's view
Thunderclap: A soldier's ship. Utilitarian, with plenty of thought going into what a squad will need for down-time and for deployment
Phantom: Really slick. The rich-man's touring ship.
Mantis: The aging workhorse
Light side sith warrior storyline was very good as well. Jedi interactions were always fun.
I'll forever praise Fallen Empire for finally leaning into the single player RPG aspects of the game
Literally only played this game when it came out because of that phantom. It looked so fantastic
Always happy to see a fellow Yt-2000 lover. The Otana was a joy to fly in X-Wing Alliance.
Glad to see that the Imperial Agent ship and story line got shout outs, just started SWTOR for the first time two months ago, really enjoying the Agent story line, first MMO in a long time to make me feel powerless at any point.
the fury class is now my favorite star wars ship design, appreciate it!
Love that Battlezone 2 music for the intro
The Agent ship actually reminds me of the Blackbird, the long-range recon plane. Especially the front section.
The Imperial Agent ship is a Lockheed Blackbird scaled up and science-fiction-ed up
I think the Jedi ship is the best, in terms of "what ship would I want to live on if I were a space traveler.
Great video! I love your ranking.
And then the Sith wonder why their Empires fall every single time.
@@jeremydale4548 The Sith have much the same opinion, except that in their heads it's always "if it wasn't for all the other Sith."
A case could be made that's true of ALL empires. It's always the power-mad jerks at the top who ruin everything.
Yes, yes, yes! I also like the YT-2000 - why? Center mounted cockpit! It retains all the other things that made the YT-Series from CEC great, but non of the things that weren't so great, like the side mounted cockpit :)
If I wanted/needed a personal ship in Star Wars and couldn't get the Ebon Hawk (or another Dynamic-Class light freighter - which I also like!) or a WR-542 Shooting Star, then I'd want the YT-2000 (with some modifications, like a droid-brain that supports the pilot and uses the turrets and a beckon-call-system so that the ship can come to my location if I need a quick escape!
Center cockpit means no big loading gate or "Freight pusher" option though.
I always have described the Imperial Agent story as "What if James Bond had to deal with crazy space wizards all the time". I imagine that's a sentiment shared by a lot of people.
I actually really enjoyed the Trooper story line, but only by kind of slipping into a "for the republic!" mindset.
1) *X-70B Phantom-class*
Beautiful on the outside, gorgeous on the inside.
2) *Fury-class Imperial Interceptor*
Cool and badass without being too edgy.
3) *XS Stock Light Freighter*
A beautiful Millennium Falcon-like Corellian ship with its own twist and style.
4) *Defender-class Light Corvette*
A sleek, sexy improvement to the Hammerhead-class design.
5) *BT-7 Thunderclap*
Impractical and awkward on the outside, impractical and super weird on the inside.
6) *D5-Mantis Patrol Craft*
What the Hell is this abominable eyesore? The only ship uglier than the Razor Crest (not by chance, both are bad imitations of Slave One).
Some of my personal favorite main character TOR ships are X-70B, Defender Class, XS Light Freighter, & Sith Infiltrator
Pretty much agreed across the Board, but I would mention that my favorite "enlarging" of the TIE design is Maul's Infiltrator. Love that ship.
Great ship breakdown video
When the game first came out I picked the Agent because the ship was so much cooler than the others.
Weird as it is, I'd describe the Phantom in the same style someone described Zigzag the Great from Thief and the Cobbler: "He is simply a shiver looking for a spine to run up."
The way I'd describe the Phantom being "It is simply a knife, looking for the right ribs to slide betwixt."
The XS is probably my favorite. I'm a sucker for the outlaw-gunslinger side of Star Wars, and the XS being a big spacefaring hot rod is just great
3:17 5:00 i'm surprised you don't mention it's a combo of not just the firespray but also jaster mereel's ship.... jango's mentor
My biggest problem with a lot of the Old Republic designs is that they feel like you can place them in any era and they'll still fit, especially when it comes to the Sith ships.
The Phantom looks like a futuristic spaceship version of the SR-71.
Finally somebody said it! Otana is the best looking YT ship by far.
This is exactly my list in exactly this order for exactly these reasons.
I really like the old republic ship designs. I'm not sure why, but somehow they just give me joy seeing them.
YAS THE YT-2000 AND THE OTANA GETTING THAT SHOUT OUT!
Those are some pretty good designs. There's so much.
I'm an old trooper main but for the ship designs for me it was always the Phantom and not even close.
Lets check this:
D-Tier:
-Defender: Technically a great ship. However.... your crew has to friggin sleep on the ground. They dont have BEDS... like wtf. There is however at least a single door in the lower part that "could" be the refresher/toilet. But better pray there will never be more than one of your crew hurt/wounded at the same time, cuz your medi-station only has one bed. Forget about a kitchen. But the atrium is pretty neat
-Mantis: No toilet/refresher. No "Living room" for the crew either... not even a proper place to play cards or something. Forget about a kitchen. Horrible.
C-Tier:
-XS-Transporter: I mean...no toilet/refresher either... however.... the only ship with an actual kitchen. Its... okay i guess....
B-Tier:
-Fury: There is actually a unused door in the storage-room which technically could be a your refresher/toilet..... also a neat living room next to the big holo-thing. However... you need kinda alot of fantasy to imagine that toilet at the end of the storage-chamber. Its fine.... at least it kinda works as "home"
B-Tier:
-
A-Tier:
Phantom and Thunderclap:
Both are amazing.
Defender - for Jedi, jedi meditate dont sleep :D :D
imperial agent was my first character and i loved that ship
Where is the footage around 12:00 from? It looks like a funny skit.
I knew how this list was gonna go even before I clicked on the video. I wasn't wrong :D
Yeah, I love 1 and 2 ships too, they are indeed gorgeous.
Also fun fact: The Fury-class comes off the same drawing board as the Rogue Shadow from The Force Unleashed.
Thanks for the content.
What's put me off playing TOR is the MMO element of it, but if its been set up now for more of a single player experience then it definitely might be worth a look.
The most interesting story including the most interesting ship. Very nice.
The biggest problem I have with some of these ships is how large they are. I understand it’s primarily for game play within the different ships interiors. I feel the massive size of the ships, mainly the mantis doesn’t fit what the ships would be used for. Another great video Spacedock
Did you guys used to have a breakdown on the Defender Corvette?
Will you do individual videos for the rest of the ships
The Imperial Agent ship deserves a highly detailed miniature model, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
Imperial Intelligence: How are we to design our agents personal ships?
Some rando: I found this vid from an unknown source. It has a cool looking wheeled vehicle in it we could draw inspiration from
II: Whats it called?
Some rando: Goldfinger
agree on the Agent ship, but the Sith ship is my 6th favorite.
6th: Sith ship
5th: Jedi ship
tied for 4th/3rd: Trooper ship and Bounty Hunter ship (it surprised me how much this one grew on me)
2nd: Diet Ebon Hawk
1st: Agent ship.
top 3 story lines for me are the sith warrior (light side choices), imperial agent, and smuggler
where did you find all the concept art pictures for the ships from? id like to look at them in closer detail
For a long time I've wanted to see an expansion that included an Imperial Trooper and Republic Agent just for the stories.
Corellian Freighters - A practical lesson in designing disguised gunships with decent cargo capacity.
That fury class looks like the panels should pivot into tie style wings
