  • In this lesson, I give you advice on how to understand native English speakers.
Native English speakers are difficult to understand due to their accent, pronunciation and the fact that they speak so quickly.
This video will help you to improve your comprehension and to have a successful conversation with a real native.
You will also learn several useful phrases.

    Eheheheh,
I don't know why I'm here, I am a native English speaker, but your video is cool.
You're a great teacher to be honest. Great job. You are a very helpful person, I respect that.
To be honest, I'd love to help people with English, but I don't have the right material. Lol.

Hey! If you really wanna help with English, I think the most important is your intention, maybe you do not have the right material to teach grammar or some complex topics but trust me some non native speakers need to practice and develop their speaking skills, so you can help them.
Plus you can make friends, learn about other cultures, traditions and maybe you can learn some words in other language.
Trust me! sometimes it's hard try to talk to a native speaker .
I started to study a Bachelor's degree in English language it's more like teach English as a foreign language or something like that 😂 and for my classmates it's really hard find native speakers to practice.
I am from Mexico but in my city you don't see a lot of foreingers so you know what I meant.

MMM, Lucy, Hadar, Vanessa, Marina, Alisha, Esthefany, Journey, Anna, Emma, ...
Juliana Selem / Master, Maria Colombia, Miss Holly, ...
I am Dorgival Dantas Brito, 49 years old, Brazilian, from São Paulo, Divorced, Musician, Singer and Composer.
I started to study English, starting in March 2020, at the beginning of Social Isolation, as a result of Pandemic, I started to Study to have something concrete to occupy myself. I didn't know anything about English, except for the most basic things, even though I always liked the language, I always found it very difficult, something very distant gives my reality.
However, in early 2018, I had started a Spanish Study, after winning a CD of songs in Español, and I fell in love not only with musical feathers but with the Language. I started to write some texts in Portuguese, translated in "Google Translate" and, a Bolivian neighbor read to me, and I recorded reading on my cell phone, and listened to getting sick. For some reason, I started to understand a little bit of Español. And, as I said last March, I wanted to read in English.
I happened to search on UA-cam and found many videos that I didn't even know existed. Where I found, too, many voices that I fell in love with. You are beautiful and you have wonderful friendships. I see videos of many people: give England, Australian, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada, Jamaica, Indian, a great diversity of videos like yours. I love watching these Videos. They are Beautiful.
The content, it doesn't matter, why, I don't understand! Whatever you do, I don't think I understand! This has been very frustrating for me, because, I understand little, very little of everything I hear. Although I am in love with English, I cannot learn. More and more I like what I'm discovering, but I don't understand! I see many videos of native Spanish teachers who teach English, other English natives who teach Spanish and other natives who speak both languages.
I believe that I can understand 50%, 60% of the content in Español, and sometimes, with images, definitions, similar, synonymous phrases, I even understand more. But, from English, it's almost nothing. But I will not give up - it was a path of no return, that I started a Journey and I will not stop: for this reason, I am contacting all of you whom I accompany, to help me with whatever is possible. I need help. I really need help.
    No further.

Juliana Selem / Maestra, Maria Colombia, Miss Holly, Anastasia,...
Necesito ayuda. Realmente necesito ayuda.
    Sin más.

I use 'fillers' a lot. I call fillers 'stuffers'. You may be right in saying that these are not so important but don't you think they add some "colours" to the language both written and spoken? Just as "stuffers" in cuisine, they enhance the taste of the dish. I can't imagine a Christmas roast turkey without being stuffed with something else.

Hello Mr. Andrew on youtube in this lesson when the annotation option is on then it is showing "I wants to go to London, as I've learned from your another lesson, if the subject is first person singular number than there will not be "s" after verb. I confused, waiting for your kind advice. moreover if there is any error in this message, please advice me as well. I am a new English learner inspired by you and having a loads of helps from your lesson and thanks for you kind effort for giving us free English lesson, it's very very helpful.

+Tanveer Ahmed Hello. Thanks for your message. Those were *automatic* captions. I did not write them. They are created automatically by UA-cam and they contain several mistakes. ""I wants to go to London" is wrong. It should be "I want".
I have now removed the automatic captions because they contain lots of mistakes. It is better to read my text on the screen. :)

Thanks - some very nice tips here. Would be great to find the full exhaustive list of the fillers. And also, let's be realistic, no one 's going to talk to a person who always asks to repeat / speak slowly or shows a confused face :D

Very interesting! Andrew, could you tell us about the pronunciation of the word often? In this video you said it with t then with silent t.

    • @CrownAcademyEnglish
      @CrownAcademyEnglish  8 років тому

+jcr1138 In British English, both pronunciations are correct. I think that in the video, I couldn't decide which pronunciation I wanted to use! In American English, the "t" is silent.
