defeating the Krakens in Magicant feels so accomplishing because this time you didn't have the captians vital help of throwing his slipper, making you feel more powerful then before
Did anyone else use Poo to mimic the kraken? Imagine being Jeff and suddenly the weird guy who just joined turns into the giant beast that attacked you.
I will tell you an anecdote. I put on a music playlist while playing minecraft. And the fact is that I forgot that I added a mod that added leviathan monsters to the seas. Just by chance of fate, when I was attacked by one of those leviathans while I was swimming. This music started playing on my list. I beat him but I stayed half a heart. It was epic.
While everyone seems to like 0:47 (for a good reason it rocks), 0:25 always stuck out for me because of how the energy of the song seems to suddenly slow down. And it’s at the right portion of most fights that I begin to realize that I may be in for a stressful and long fight. Given how most of the enemies that use this theme are meant to be major roadblock enemies.
the slippers were a vital key to the initial fight, honestly felt magical defeating 3 of those things without unlacing my shoes and throwing them at the kraken's in Magicant
i've never actually beaten earthbound before, but i've tried to play it many times. i've been attempting another playthrough recently and i finally got past threed for the first time and this is one of the only battle themes i haven't heard once from this game and i was so caught off guard by the intro. i had to like take a minute to listen to this entire song before i kept playing. this is definitely my favorote battle theme so far from this game. i think mother 3's ost will always be my personal favorite but this entire series has such great music. this is probably my favorite snes ost though.
The only time I played through it was with cheats, because my Wii's SD card ate my saves halfway through the game. Really need to finish the game legit one of these days.
Yeah man I feel that. For me, I probably would've never finished the game if I didn't abuse the suspend point feature that NSO has. The respawn points after getting a game over can be so brutal. And it also sucks that you respawn without any PP meaning that you can't even fast travel after respawning. Though to the game's credit, this is the only glaring flaw that I notice, which is really good for an SNES game. I'd honestly go as far to say that this is hands down the best SNES game in the year 2023, just in terms of how well it holds up.
Holy fuck this slaps. I remembered everything about Earthbound was amazing when I played it, but I didn't remember the ost being THIS lit. ...it's not that the ost aged well, the rest of the world''s finally caught up to genius shit ahead of it's time.
I’m thinking the parts at 1:04 and 1:12 are what inspired the Mother 3 tracks that are variations of other battle themes but with the occasional parts to throw off your rhythm
There is something special about this track. It has something about it that makes it more than the sum of its parts. I cannot describe it, but every time I listen to it, I am mesmerized by the way it sounds and the way it progresses.
It's so alien-esque while still keeping some of that sea vibe, "something energed from the water". The situation is intense. Though you're well aware how absurd the situation is. You just encountered a kraken for hell's sake! But you know you can fight it, you're strong. You HAVE to fight it, even the captain did, although you didn't notice... It gets quite ethereal in 0:25 it's so beautiful i keep coming back to this song just for that part. It reminds me of the goal of the journey. Of home. Of all the places Ness and the team have been to so far. They fight to save those places.
I remember I was playing cube runners version four somebody said to beat the Kraken and then like days when I came to the soundtrack, the title said Kraken so It reminded me of cube runners
The only reason why I enjoy fighting that one damn robot in the stone henge base is cus of this theme me over here saying I won’t dance to this song each time it plays me dancing each time it plays
0:47 Sounds like an alternate theme to the main battle theme, like one you would hear in the “dark world” of a game like final fantasy aka the designated “late game enemy battle theme”
I think the most interesting bit is the modulation on that main synth is done by brute force: The low pass filter effect is done by having several permutations of the same synth sample (every so slightly bassier), then playing them in sequence.
I saw @Stirrfrye mention this already, but this music occurs FAR before the Kraken is even seen, the only one I can remember being the Smiling Spheres from the desert near Fourside.
I don't know why this song in particular reminds me of the scene from Charly and the chocolate factory when violet inflates and turns blue and also to two thousand ten
