Nicely done , did you take the bracket off or did you just put some washers on the back side of the alternator bolt .

I haven't done anything to the bracket yet. It ran the way it is for at least 20 years so I will address the alignment in the spring, when it is warmer. Thanks for asking.

Did your battery light go off?
I'm changing the belt on an '87 l2550.
I'm glad I watched this, I was in the midst of loosening the back bolts🤣

No, the battery light has been on since I got the tractor although the multimeter tells me the charging system is fine and the tractor fires up as it should. After changing the starter, battery and alternator belt over 2 years, I found the root cause of my hard starts in cold weather was a need for a starter relay. I recently posted a video on that fix. Good luck.

I have a 1987 l2550, and the battery light came on years ago when the sensor was removed from the original battery. Still on, about 25 years later.

Hi, wondering if you know where the temp sensor is located. The temp gauge quit working. 1987 l2550.

You realize how you lucked out. Usually, thanks to Murphy's law, a simple 5 min job turns into 5 hrs. Your job became even simpler needing only half the bolts removed.

I thought your pulley lined up fine.

Trying to replace the fan belt and once it’s on, the fan pulley is stuck and will not spin

The fan is directly coupled to and driven by the motor and should only turn when the engine is running.

@@OldGuyDIY turns out the water pump has bad bearings so replacing that

Replaced water pump following all steps and torque requirements. Bottom bolt leaking coolant.

In my experience, coolant should never get to the bolt holes. The gasket or sealant should keep it contained. If it were mine, I would remove the water pump and be sure the gasket is not cut or pinched. If all looks good, it may be a poor machining job causing the water pump face to not be true. In any case, I would reseat the gasket, apply a liberal bead of permaseal gasket maker onto the gasket and reinstall the water pump. Tighten the bolts snug, but not to the torque spec. Allow the unit to sit overnight so the the permaseal sets up. The following day, tighten the water pump bolts to the torque spec. Add coolant and fire it up. I suspect there will not be any leakage. Good luck.
