Okay…yeah-the viewfinder is small, but those crisp, clean shots with the Carl Zeiss lenses are absolutely unbeatable. I will happily sacrifice a minor inconvenience for those sharp shots and beautiful color rendering all day long.
always wanted to try a G1, i have an olympus 35rc rangefinder that I really want to try out and use, but it definitely needs a servicing before i do that !!
I have an Olympus OM1, OM2 and 1962 Olympus Auto Eye II and I've been wanting another mode advanced unit to pair with them. I prefer the Olympus OM series over the same era Leicas. However the Contac I feel can supply the same satisfaction of the OM. However, the OM viewfinder is better than any 35mm I've ever used! So it'd take some adjusting.
Dim viewfinder? At the time this camera was almost as expensive as a Leica and it has a dim viewfinder? That’s crazy. Also the noise it makes while AF…
@@itacatv2146 Haha! Yeah, the sound is rather obnoxious and the viewfinder is much too dark but the images I create with it are so good so I can't part ways with it.
The viewfinder being so small, and the fact it's very difficult/expensive to fix that camera if needed, are the two main reasons I got rid of mine. Loved the camera design and shots it got.
This is the 40mm. I have the 28mm, 40mm and I had the 90mm but sold it quickly. The 90 was by far the worst. The 90 works well on the G2 but very poorly on the G1. The 40 and 28 are amazing. I prefer a 40mm focal length, but the 28mm rarely misses focus and its super sharp.

You don’t wanna use those hinges for the G1 or G2. The titanium surface bodies are really soft and will easily scratch.
what was the lens you had on there ?
I shoot with two G1 bodies with 21, 28, 45, and 90mm Zeiss lenses.
My two Contax G1 cameras are very good for me.

Has anyone used it on manual focus? f8, set it and forget it--how does it handle the zone focus?
What lens is on that? I only see that it’s Zeiss, but the images don’t look like they’re the 28mm it usually comes with. Is it a 50?
