By the way, for a sample body of work shot on the G2, check out the work of German photojournalist Andreas Herzau who recently passed away. His street photography work in New York, Moscow and Calcutta is very different from what you typically see and the G2 enabled that for him.
Absolutely loved my G1 with a 28 mm. Used it for a year solid and enjoyed it greatly. I am a slower paced photographer so it worked well for me. For fast paced street work, it definitely can be a bit more challenging to use I can admit. I only sold mine since I stopped shooting 35 mm more and more and moved to 120 primarily back when I had it. Now I want another haha. Great video!
Loved this! I do most of my street photography nowadays with my Contax G1 (green label) paired with my 28mm and 45mm. Never miss a shot even when shooting from the hip and zone focusing! Glad I came across this video. Now I need that pouch...
Hey Alex, how about an Olympus om1, mirror lock up(silent mode 😂) and a optical viewfinder on the hotshoe with a 24mm or 28mm lens and just zone focus. It is a fun combo 😉
I would disagree with where the G2 is ranked. It needs to be higher. You just need to learn how to gauge your subjects in meters and trust the autofocus. I've seen Daniel Arnold in the street with the G2/28 combo a few times and I'd say he's doing pretty well for a street photographer.
Great video Alex! had a G2 for a while. Didn’t really like using the autofocus on it as it would still miss in faster scenes. I ended up using it in manual mode and just set my distance at 1.5m and kept my thumb on the back focus button so that the lens was locked and didn’t have to return to infinity after every shot. That made the G2 a lot faster to shoot on the streets
Your view on the G1 i perfect, lens are great. Not a good camera for auto focus for quick moving subjects but its a lovely camera for slower things. How I shoot mine.
Pushing the shutter button down and either nothing happening or the shutter being delayed is the reason why I’ve put it on the shelf for now. It was getting frustrating enough that I bought a Leica m7 and adapted the 45mm to m mount to get a similar experience without the annoyance of missing shots. My current idea of a perfect 35mm camera would be a mix between the G and an M7.
I own and use a green label Contax G1 and a silver label Contax G1 with 21/28/45/90mm lenses. For street photography, to avoid changing lenses, I carry a G1 with a 21mm lens, a G1 with a 90mm lens, and a Leica M6 with a 35mm lens. For landscapes, I carry a G1 with a 28mm lens and a Fuji 6x9cm medium format rangefinder with a fixed 65mm f/5.6 wide-angle lens (28mm equivalent).
Hey Alex, i have a hard time with the viewfinder of my G2. I can't tell when i'm in focus or not, and it's frustrating because sometime i have the shot in front of me but because it takes so long to focus i miss the shot that i want. Any tips ? Thank you very much
The G1 and G2 are actual, real rangefinder cameras. The manual of both cameras illustrates this clearly. Also, take note of the rangefinder windows on the front of the camera as those are not just for show.

Another great one Alex. Nice to have guests on these shows…. Love the music on this episode. Looking forward to the next one!.
Enjoying this series Alex! Thank you
Potentially the nicest looking camera design of all time. So beautiful.

Hi welcome to my channel. Check out my other videos on zone focusing/range focusing and other instances employ this in various videos. ;)

Sold my G1 for exactly this reason. I look at photos with that 45mm lens though and I miss it.
I have streeted a lot with my G1. 35 f2 being an absolute gem of a lens, I'm sad it wasn't included here. A damn nice video nonetheless! Thanks Alex
Great series man, keep it up.

This was a ton of fun. Nice shots too.
Great work on the video. I wish I could afford the G2 😂
Also you just sold me a hacki sacki.

You should try one of the fujifilm klasse cameras. Probably the klasse w
Silence, my movie is starting right now.
The hacky sack is genius
That is not what a hacky sack normally is.
Love the series!

Nippon Photo clinic in NY fixes all things contax!
Useful!
G1 slower than M6? How
Manual Focus.
I need a "can it street" with a Contax TVS Digital.
I respect your wrong opinion 👍🏼
Don’t waste your time with these cameras. Film is too expensive for bad autofocus.
ya bought a lemon
Research the G1 AF speed.
