Thanks for this video as it is very helpful to me in my chicken broth adventures. My husband is a scientist and he says that the glass most likely would not break if you left the lid loose in the freezer until it freezes. This is because as the liquid expands during the freezing process, it takes up more space leaving less room for the air. The the air pressure increases in the jar, which then still cracks the glass. So, it's not just about leaving extra space for the liquid, you actually have to allow the air to escape as it's freezing.
As others have stated, you need to have a mason jar without the "shoulder." It needs to be straight. I noticed the straight ones actually state near the top, "For freezing-----fill here" while the jars with shoulders do not state that.
I've froze my bone broth in glass Mason jars un sealed with a lot of head space still then once frozen oil put the lid on it. That has successfully resulted in uncracked jars.
I’ve heard someone that the issue w jars breaking is the fact that there’s a shoulder to the jar (regardless of how much space you leave). Alternative would be jars without shoulders like the weck cylinder jars. Haven’t tested it myself but thought you might be curious!
You can use these jars for canning. After filling completely with hot broth in *clean* glasses, simply lay the lid on top, and place several filled glasses in a big pot with hot water. Place the lid on the pot and heat it. Have the water boil slightly for 30 minutes. Then close the lids on the glasses and let everything cool down. So just let it sit. When cooled down, take glasses out of the pot and place them in your pantry. 😊
I thought you had to pressure can broth and you couldn't water bath can broth? I currently have bone broth going in my crock pot and I'm 100% curious about this
I just ordered a jar vacuum sealer. I wonder if I could combine this boiling water method with the jar vacuum sealer. I considered buying a pressure canner but if this works then I wouldn't have to find more space for another large kitchen gadget. Lol
Thank you for the video, I started using bone broth for the first in my life. I've been buying it at the grocery store in a box but I am tempted to make my own I want to know how I can store it. This is very useful! :)
Does it create ice cilcles when you store in plastic bag also have you tried storing in Pyrex for freezing glass containers? Thank you I will subscribe and looking for more ideas
Thank you for the video. I may have missed you saying it. But after you stored in the Mason jar. And the Mason jar cracks can you still use that broth?

I agree completely with previous comment
Thank God for science!!
Thank You !
That does work, thanks
Also on the Ball canning jar website it says not to use the curved neck jars in the freezer, just the wide mouth straight ones

I like how you list out the pros and cons for each method as I’ve considered all 3 before but didn’t know the cons. Thanks 😊
You have a very warm speaking style and great instructional style. I’m just venturing into making homemade broth and this was very helpful. 🙂
This is exactly what I was looking for. Very well laid out. Thank you!
This is a great video. You can also put the frozen cubes into square glass Tupperwares instead of the baggies or the jars.
This was helpful!

That is correct! Can confirm Weck jars do not crack.
Yep, jars with shoulders are not “freezer safe.” Have to use all the way straight side jars.
Very nicely done. Thank you for the great tips.
I just looked on Amazon and there are one cup silicone molds available. They come it comes in 2 pieces with 4 slots each.
Can you please share the name of it as mentioned on Amazon .thanks

just what I needed, thanks
Thank so much! You answer my question about using glass jar for freezing.
Glad I watched your video.... Good information... Thank you!!

I am pretty sure if you left lid loose and allowed air to expand and contract .

Have you tried sticking the jars inside of the fridge before transferring them to the freezer?
Kayla Thompson, I agree with you. And I would thaw in the fridge for 2 days to be safe from cracking the jar.
I did that too never cracked
How do you get the frozen cubes out of the silicone tray? I froze some broth like that and it won't leave the tray.
Thank you for the video. I may have missed you saying it. But after you stored in the Mason jar. And the Mason jar cracks can you still use that broth?
How long would they last if left in the fridge? 3 days? 4 days?
5-7
Thanks a lot. Your ways are good. Hello from Russia, Siberia, the Baikal. :)
Thank you, super helpful!
Maybe instead of glass jars ceramic jars can be used. I guess it won't crack like glass.
Thanks
Can you refreeze it
You need a microphone for sound quality
Liquid expands when frozen.
Skip to last option 7:20 min
I am going to see if I can buy paper straws fold over the end and see if that works.
Put the liquid in the clean jar super hot. You can even preheat the jar. Pour the hot liquid in and put the cap on fast. It'll seal.
couldnt hear
dont freeze liqued in glass please... they expand
when liqued freezez it expands - therefor the glass breaks..
Fix the mike.
Why waste so much time giving 'not the best way' to store the broth?👎
Because you can use all three methods. I do, and it works out great.
