The big tip off to that is how he's always trying to put "context" in a situation and then acts completely baffled that even after his context, people still see him as the bad guy. Him trying to explain that the technique he used to grab his son is an "immobilization technique." That's from the book of "who cares?" It doesn't change the fact he grabbed his son inappropriately to get to a phone. And then at the end of the clip he jumps to what the police officer says. Well, anyone who dealt with the police in the United States knows their job in a domestic situation is to come in, defuse the situation, detain based on what they see, and take statements. The whole story doesn't come out until the case goes to court. What the police officer may say really doesn't matter. Because they don't know what happened and they're not there to find out, and they have bias against people who use drugs and have arrests.
The fact that he doesn't want anyone to talk shows that something is deeply wrong with him. He doesn't care about their opinions.
He doesn't feel anything other than pride...
He doesn't think anyone's opinions can ever be more valid than his own. His perspective is the only perspective that he is able to see and understand, even to the detriment of his own families well being and safety.

Some people just shouldn't be allowed to have kids. You can usually tell if someone's a psychopath by the time they're in their teens, so if they are, they should be forcibly spayed/neutered so that they can't ever have any kids.

@@cogen651 You can call your cellphone provider and deactivate or lock a phone.. Usually you can do all that from your phone without having to call. That's just one way but I'm sure there are plenty of other ways to handle that situation that doesn't involve getting violent
This guy is giving me anxiety just watching this. He won’t let anyone speak AT ALL and won’t listen. It’s uncomfortable to watch the rest of the family just be talked over like that. He’s the absolute worst and I hope they ditch him. Speaking from experience, cutting out toxic people, especially your parent, hurts but is sometimes necessary to live a healthy life

If you've watched other clips of other guests who are accused of abuse, they do not act like he acts. They actually do sit there. They might make facial expressions, but they will be quiet. At worst, they'll say, "That's not true." But what he's doing is different. He's trying to change their perspective. Basically, accusing them of not remembering it right. Which is a little different than flat out denial.
Let's say a wife accused a husband of hitting her. How the dialogue would normally go is the wife would make the accusation and the husband might interrupt and say, "Yeah, when you pulled a knife on me." And then he maybe shakes his head or makes a disgusted face. Then Dr Phil asks him to explain his side, and that's when you get the story. In other words, the only interruption is only insert something that would actually change the perspective of the entire situation. Or they keep their mouth shut and don't want to talk about it when they know they're in the wrong.
He's also doing something similar, but he's trying to shape the story into something that looks more sympathetic to his side, but doesn't have enough realization to know whether or not his added details actually makes a difference in the perspective of others. He keeps describing the way he grabbed his son as an immobilization technique, but that makes no difference. He still did it. He tries to turn the focus on the fact his son picked up a knife, because he thinks that would make a difference. It really doesn't. His son pulled a knife because he was hurting him.

I fear for the family when they return home. His pride is wounded, he's angry that they openly defied him, and he's fearful that people might just see through his fantasy-armour. He will definitely retaliate against them. I hope Dr. Phil is assisting them with an escape plan. The most dangerous time for a victim is when they leave their abusers. As such, it would be highly unethical for Dr. Phil to abandon them after the show.

Dr. Phil is a mandated reporter so those children didnt go right back home. Those parents will have to go through cancelling and whatever else before their children come home and once those kids are home they will be checked up on all the time. You better believe Dr.Phil has all of those bases covered. He's not about to be responsible for some kids death when he knows the parents are terrible.

I'm a victim of abuse from both my childhood and a previous relationship and the way that this father speaks about his wife and children is incredibly common for those looking to deflect guilt from a hostile situation that they create as a reaction to otherwise benign interactions. It's about control, and if these individuals don't have complete control, they take away your freedom, privacy and safety until you surrender for the sake of peace.
