    In London, in the early to mid 20th Century, things were run on the system run by the London Hydraulic Company. High pressure water ran in pipes under the streets to work cranes, lifts in hotels, curtains in theatres, all sorts of things. Power was stored in 'Accumulator Towers', where water was pumped into a cylinder, which pushed a huge piston, weighing many tons, upwards. When power was needed, the piston was released, and as it dropped, it forced water back through the pipes to do work. Simple, and effective.

      They had rights to pipe things under the streets, and though the hydraulic piping is no longer there, the rights are still valuable. They were bought by what was then Mercury Communications to lay cables.

    You know, there was a moment here where I said to myself, "Hey, Colin, if you're ripping all the functioning parts off that press, aren't you just using the frame, and wouldn't it be more reasonable to just make another frame? Maybe even a larger frame to accommodate larger, crazier stuff?" But then I realized that this was Colin Furze we were talking about, and nothing here makes sense. That ain't a bad thing though. Now you just gotta make an adapter, so you can push the oil back into your reservoir tank, unless you want a nightmare of having to fill your tank and the risk of overflow, when changing between tools.
    This adapater can use compressed air, and remember to use a valve on it, so to bleed off the air pressure, when you are finished pushing back the oil, or you are going to have a bad time.
    Best regards

      @MultiPureEnergy 5 років тому +3

      Xxvid12 the hoses and the tools have seals in their quick connects, and the fluid doesn’t compress so it’s volume only changes with temperature. All that means is, once a tool is purged of air, it holds on to the oil it is full of, and when you connect it up for the second time, the reserve tank doesn’t have to “give” the tool any oil. Put simply, he doesn’t need to worry about the tank over flowing, because the tools don’t drain when you disconnect them.

  • @Kryptomromine
    @Kryptomromine 5 років тому

    Watching this reminds me of when I worked in Machine Shop in High School. My class had a few different hydraulic tools that were always getting destroyed because of the way the hydraulic system for the shop was run. The shops hydraulic system was over pressuring the tools hydraulic cylinders. Usually the failure was blown gaskets, and in one case the actual cylinder ruptured, and severely injured a kid the year previous to my first year in the class. I installed a limiter valve on the system my Junior year. I figured out the issue after I had a tool blow out on me luckily it was just a gasket. talked to the Teacher about what I thought the issue was, and we ended up speaking with the schools machine shop Leiason ( our school machine shop was sponsored by a local manufacturer) who spoke to the sponsors, and got approval for the parts to install to the main hydraulic system. The limiter worked perfectly, and to this day 17 years later other than replacing tools from just age and normal wear no blow outs have happened since.

    Hey Colin, quick question. I'm noticing that your hydraulic circuit uses male quick disconnects on both the supply and return sides, on both the pump and the press. Was there a reason for this we're not thinking of here? One drawback of this is that you can cross your hoses, and if you do that, your switch doesn't always line up with the way the pressure goes.
    My thinking is that if you put one male and one female qdc on the pump and the same on the press, and you make your hoses male-to-female, you always have the load device connected in the same way, so the switch always lines up with what the pump does.

    • @HoodlumMedia
      @HoodlumMedia 5 років тому

      Turbocharging a car is a massive, massive process. You're causing more heat so at the minimum you need to re-gap your piston rings for new tolerances, if the engine, geerbox, clutch etc can actually take the new power stock, which is a while other issue. You need to ensure air/fuel mix is exact. Not to mention entirely new ECU (although p50 won't have one i think) and dialling in the boost levels, blowoff/recirc, valves, managing knock... Plus you're probably not going to get much power anyway... HOWEVER, the classic 600cc furze swap would be incredible!!

    • @scottwhitley3392
      @scottwhitley3392 4 роки тому

      Gavin Wheeldon yep, i very much doubt a 50cc engine would even produce enough exhaust pressure to power a turbocharger in the first place
