The Jaws where great, but the real highlight of this video was the backpack hydraulic pump... That opens up some possibilities.. Hydraulic chainsaw anyone?
Colin U might wanna put some sort of endstop so that the hydraulics stops working when the blade touches the other so that the whole thing won't get bent.
Hydraulics are best suited for this application. Colin stated his goal was to cut hard steel. Pneumatics wouldn't achieve that easily. Hydraulics on the other hand do it easily. The way you make the claw lighter is using aluminum as the frame of the claw, supplemented with hardened and flexible steel in weak joints of the claw. The best steel for cutting steel is honestly D2 (low) with a RC of 58-60. You would want to make your final cuts, and machining specs prior to heat treat. The heat treat process will naturally change the dimensions of the steel by several ten thousands of an inch. Personally, I vacuum harden all my D2 (low) at 1875'F for 1 hour 30 minutes. Obviously, I incrementally heat soak at 950'F for 30 minutes, 1200'F for 30 minutes, 1450 for 30 minutes, and 1700'F for 45 minutes. I do the last soak for 90 minutes at 1875'F. I'll pump down to -30 Hg for the duration of all heat soaks and backfill with hydrogen to 1900 mbar for the quench. I have a gas turbine that'll drop the temp from 1875'F to 140'F in 30 seconds. After a quench, vent, and purge, I'll temper it at 300'F for 4 hours, let it cool to atmosphere, and then temper again at 400'F for 4 hours letting it cool to atmosphere. RC is always 58-60.

Forget the hydraulics! Go with pneumatic actuators. Lighter and faster therefore more deadly.
Lol supporting a future super villain
Adam Pierce You can reach higher pressures and therefore more force with hydraulics
@@stayfr00sty13 speed and weight is the key here.

Colin your on the brink of making a one handed jaws of life !!!!!!!! Plz turn it into a jaws of life that design could save millions
You want to become new Spider-Man villain? Hydraulic claws is a gateway gizmo to becoming new Spider-Man villain...
Гиви Зурабович they would just shoot him in the back and he would explode
Same for spider man they could just snipe him
@@zenitram8322 Spiderman got like inhuman regeneration.
And don't i say spider sense.
Long range bullet won't even graze his hair.
Imagine Colin furze doing his son school project
😂😂😂
Get the tombstones ready for teacher and classmates
Teacher "So Timmy what did you bring to what's you bring to school for show and tell"
Timmy "I mbrought my dad's wrist mounted flame thrower"
IDK what his sons actual name is so I just used timmy
Colin is the boss battle of dads doing school projects lol
Your projects really helped me understand that I wanted to be a engineer
I wanted to be an engineer, then i took a college calculus class (with no calculators allowed) to the brain.
It's all fun and games *until* calculators are allowed and typos cost you half your score.
Have a idea for guitar bluetooth gig capable
I like the clips very much.
