This video was helpful. I didnt understand if I would have to turn the patient or ask them to lift their hips because it does not specify. I also wasn't sure about putting linen under the bed pan because it didn't say. So this was super helpful. Thank you!
Thank you Dr Lee I failed my test two times and this really made me to give up I was decided to do not do CNA again but through ur video i get courage and i am planning to do it again I will let you know after, hopefully I will pass now😢
Hi doctor Lee, i love watching your demos but there’s other skills that you haven’t done yet , and I’d like to keep on watching them on your page so I can focus on one channel that has great explanations , and all of the skills which for me , is your channel ! Thanks for what you doing in the community, we appreciate you!
I know I already watched the video. But, I wanted to know when you FIRST grab the materials such as the bedpan, wipes, and toilet paper. Would the wipes and toilet paper be considered clean?
Hello, Yes, the wipes, bedpan, and toilet paper are considered clean when you first start the skill. You'll need to put on gloves before placing the bedpan under the client.
Hello Dr Lee, Would you be able to clarify about drying the bedpan after rinsing it. I was told in my class that we are only to rinse then put in designated dirty supply area according to Credential California Nurse Assistant Candidate Handbook.
For the exam, for each skill that we are tested on do they make you go to get your own supplies out of their supply area or will the specific supplies that you need for the skill already be set aside? If they require for us to get our own supplies from their supply room before we start the skill and we forget something, will it be OK to tell the patient that you need to go and grab something while being sure to remove gloves if you have them on and making sure the patient is safe before leaving the room to get the missing supply?
Hello, When taking the state skills exam you will be timed on completing 5 skills. You can't get any supplies ahead of time. Gathering your supplies will be done with each skill after the timer has started. The evaluator will show you around the skills testing room and give you an opportunity to touch and see where everything is located before you start your skills exam. If you forget something, just tell the evaluator you need to make a correction. The evaluator will then decide if you can make the correction.
Dr.lee I have a question… is it okay that I put the bedpan on the over table with the wipes and toilet paper ? I have my test tomorrow in NC … Thank you for your videos I have been worrying so much but watching your videos have made me feel a little better
Thanks for the video ma. It’s educating. My question is in reality, what if some faeces particles gets stuck in the bed pan after use and refused to go off with just water.., what do we do? Can we use a bleach or something like that to take it off??
As far as the wipe and tissue disposal are we to have separate bag so the patient has somewhere to place their dirty wipes or tissue into? or do they just place it wherever and we pick it up and dispose of it?
Hello, The candidate is NOT required to have a bag or trash can for the patient to place dirty wipes or tissues. During the skills exam, the patient is ONLY instructed to use the items and they must be in reach. When the candidate comes back to remove the bedpan, the candidate will just pick up the wipes and tissues with their gloves on and place them in the designated dirty supply area.

I noticed that you put/left the second gloves on the table if a skill requires more than one glove, is that okay to do on the exam. or do we have to walk back to the glove box to get a new set?
Do we need a protective cover on top of what the client has on? We were thought that and I am kinder confused I have my exams on Sunday in Washington state
Hello Dr. Lee! Would you happen to know if Credentia requires California testing candidates to raise the bed to a working height in order to pass the exam?
Hello Lily, I know in California you all can choose the agency to test with. For Credentia, you are not required to raise the bed to a working height. The reason for this is that not all people have beds that will raise. For example, if you were doing private duty in a client's home, the bed probably wont raise up to your waist level.
Hello, I don't understand the question. I am sorry. We ONLY need to do the steps listed in the candidate handbook. We are graded on the steps listed. I am not sure why we need towels, soap, and a basin for the bedpan skill. When adults go to the bathroom, most don't use a towel, soap, and a basin. If I went to the bathroom at a restaurant, I wouldn't use those things. I only need toilet paper and then wash my hands at the sink. Maybe I don't understand what you are saying.
Hello, The instructions do not tell the student where to place the gloves. This is not a hygiene issue. An issue will occur if the student places the bedpan under a client without gloves.
Hi Dr. Lee, I hope you are doing well. My school told us we had to help the pt with wiping but as you stated it doesn't say that in the book. Would I be okay to just do what you did? I live in Cali and it's the same handbook we are using.
Hello, I will place Credentia's guidelines for California below. Step 9 instructs the candidate to tell the client to clean their hands. SKILL 4 - ASSISTS WITH USE OF BEDPAN 1 Explains procedure speaking clearly, slowly, and directly, maintaining face-to-face contact whenever possible 2 Privacy is provided with a curtain, screen, or door 3 Before placing bedpan, lowers head of bed 4 Puts on clean gloves before placing bedpan under client 5 Places bedpan correctly under client’s buttocks 6 Removes and disposes of gloves (without contaminating self) into waste container and washes hands 7 After positioning client on bedpan and removing gloves, raises head of bed 8 Toilet tissue is within reach 9 Hand wipe is within reach and client is instructed to clean hands with hand wipe when finished 10 Signaling device within reach and client is asked to signal when finished
Hello, the student will fail this skill because not removing the gloves and washing your hands is a serious infection control problem after placing a bedpan in the gential area.
Hello, You asked a great question. The drying of the bedpan is NOT a requirement for Credentia to pass this skill. Let's look at Credentia's steps. I will start with step 13. when we are performing the skill do we wipe the patient after they're done with the bedpan or pretend like they did it?

I noticed that you put/left the second gloves on the table if a skill requires more than one glove, is that okay to do on the exam. or do we have to walk back to the glove box to get a new set?

Hello, The student can use the top sheet as the protective covering. Good luck on Sunday.
Hello Dr. Lee,
Quick question- When you go get the supplies do you wear gloves? Or only before you placing the bedpan
Hello Credentia, requires the gloves to be on BEFORE placing the bedpan under the patient. It is not a requirement when getting your supplies.

Hello Lily, I know in California you all can choose the agency to test with. For Credentia, you are not required to raise the bed to a working height. Hello, You can raise the bed or lower the HOB with or without gloves.

Are these skills the same steps for the state of Colorado?
Hello Subrina, I just check today (5-23-23) and Credentia tests the nurse aide in Colorado.
In the handbook it states this skill is not tested? Is that true
Hello,
Each state has different requirements. If your state says not tested, then it is not tested.
Do you fail the skill if you forget to take off gloves the first time ?
Hello, the student will fail this skill because not removing the gloves and washing your hands is a serious infection control problem after placing a bedpan in the gential area.
