@@baronvonnembles In 1985 when this was aired, Laurel and Hardy were known by many. Their films repeated on many stations. Cultural icons. A bit like saying in 1985 no one would no Elvis. Laurel and Hardy are timeless.
Only Carson (with Ed and Doc) could make going down the tubes so hysterically funny! Note to Fallon: Notice how Johnny stays serious the whole time without any phony laughing.
Exactly. Fallon would be trying to laugh his way through this, because he (like Johnny’s writers, apparently) doesn’t realize that interesting facts aren’t funny… you have to add something to make them funny.
Nobody could banter back and forth like Johnny and Ed.
At 0:30 Johnny channelling the spirit of Oliver Hardy in his mannerisms which I loved.
Yep. Likely 90% of those under 60 would not get the allusion.

Of course, Johnny wasn't a complete moron like Fallon either 🙄

Was that Doc with the horn? Sometimes, Johnny could be the funniest with things not going well.
Johnny Carson on a bad night is still funnier than all of the late night hacks we have today
Yes, I’d go one more and say funeral directors are far more funny than the current late night hacks.
Truthfully, he never really had a bad night. The man was even more hilarious when the bits bombed
Funny stuff, off the cuff!
What is this stamp thing of which they're speaking
Hey now! 😂
Johnny seems to have had a drink or 2.

What I miss is the spontaneity of humor that Carson had every night. As for todays humor...Meh.
Just reading facts without saying anything funny about it. I’d expect this from Fallon, but not Carson.
Usually when they did this type bit they would then go into their version of made up stuff.
