I am sorry that I missed your survey. I am in the USA, over 60 years old, and became disabled just over 3 years ago. That has given me a lot of free time that I fill by listening to music. I found Band-Maid while searching UA-cam for live performances of Babymetal. A suggestion of Band-Maid popped up so I also searched for a Band-Maid live performance and found the Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 Okyuji. I was instantly hooked. I enjoy keeping up with them and watch new releases and reaction videos while at my local coffee shop every couple of days. Long Live Band-Maid!
I think one of the main reasons older male fans are drawn to Band Maid is it reminds us of the music we used to love when we were younger. Pure Rock and Metal with Punk and Pop thrown in. Yes the personalities are fun and appealing. But I can't count the number of times fans express the hope that the band are not over doing it or working too hard. Band Maid have the sort of fans who are really protective of them. We want the music to continue and the fanbase to grow. Which is why it is great having a Princess know and support the band. Hopefully the most inclusive and safest fandom there is.
Agreed. And yeah, it is a weird feeling but when I see the rate of output and the hard work they put in I really do start to worry about them. I mean there are so many many bands that just implode or fade away under the pressure to deliver.
Show Them the collaboration between Band-Maid and The Warning was a genius move, however it wasn't planned to gain more fans it was because they were such fans of each other and they just wanted to do it
The Ladies of Band-Maid took the withered coals of my love and joy of music, and blew them back to life. They then added kindling, and fuel to make them burn to new heights. Because of the 5 young Ladies of Band-Maid, I have discovered dozens of new groups and artists. From many countries. I also have rediscovered music from my childhood that I had forgotten about, and I discovered even more music in multiple languages and from multiple countries. German, French, Greek, Russian, Finnish, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese, Kenyan, South African, Egyptian, Mongolian, Siberian, Korean. I could go on and on. Because of Band-Maid, my ears and my mind have been opened to new sounds and old. For that alone I would love them. But you add in the fact, that they are also some of the most kindest, personable and respectful people, honest to a fault, and my admiration grows even more.
This video was very enjoyable. I'm 72 yrs old and discovered Band Maid 4 yrs ago through their DICE video. Since then, there has not been one single day of not listening to them. Daily,I look for reactions to their music; so much so,there is little time left to watch reactions to other performers, unless they are from the 60's. I have been enamored with music since my parents introduced me,at age 6 or 7 in the 50's, to Beethoven's 5th symphony,Franz Schubert Symphony No.8 "Unfinished",Mario Lanza, the opera singer, and Hank Williams, country music legend. I recently read a comment that it is considered rude in Japan to ask personal questions, such as "are you married",etc. Thank you for taking the time to create this video.
The Maidiacs are the best & most close-knit community on social media. We help each other on collaborations, fan made vids, gatherings & events the world over. And we do it all for our love & respect of BAND-MAID & each other.🤗
BAND-MAID is that tower of strength and greatness, and we gradually settle around it, building our own houses and workshops and bars and restaurants and concert halls and and and...
@@VladimirChupin Our World Domination is a gradual process but we're getting there Vladimir. It may have a detrimental effect on our progress if we do karaoke when you're in London.🎤😫🎵
Leo, thank you so much for this analysis of our Maids. I'm an older Maidaic (75 y/o) and discovered them four years ago. Your survey was both amazing and spot on. What so many of us older Maidiacs hope is that younger people (male and female) discover and fall in love with these amazingly talented young Japanese females. Their music can touch everyone with its positivity and connectivity with the fans.
I‘m sorry to disappoint you - Unseen World is the absolute masterpiece IMHO 😊 or is it Conqueror … but wait Anemone and Daydreaming are on WD - hmm, I guess it also depends on the mood - together with JBI and Unleash they are all masterpieces at their own, but I can see that it might be a bit a challenge to catch up with the speed, complexity and genius of UW 😊
Wow, Leo, you did some super deep-dive reporting for this one! Great discussion of elitism, btw. IMO, everyone denies they are an elitist, yet at the same time, everyone harbors some measure of elitism. It only varies in amount, degree of nastiness, and level of closemindedness. I'm sure I'm over-generalizing, but Band-Maid fans tend to gravitate toward well-crafted and -performed songs with lots of memorable hooks, riffs, harmonies, and instrumental conversations. I'm a open-minded person when it comes to music, but I can't deny that Kanami & co. have set a very high bar for rock music.
I'm a 60 year old rocker. I grew up with the great guitar rock of the 70's and 80's. The Maids and The Warning both have become 2 of my favorite bands.
Thank you for doing this extensive survey and a long video on it. I know how much work goes into making a video like this one. Thank you too for including my long winded response on my love of the band. I truly hope you will enjoy your journey into the world of Band-Maid as much as I have mine. Thank you once again.
LMAO I think I have to defend myself here. I think that was me at 20:50 Some may consider that asking for someone to pick their favorite Band-Maid song is proof that God does not exist, but I did choose their song "No God" as my favorite. Of course this is only at the time of the survey and it has changed a couple of times since then 😅 Thank you so much for this video. I'm loving your other stuff and will be taking a look at that Ethel Cain video you linked. Cheers!
If I may offer two comments: 1. Thank you for such a magnificent post for and about BAND-MAID and their community. 2. Yes, I will listen to Ethel Cain's PREACHER'S DAUGHTER...in fact, I am listening to it right now. Thank you, Leo.
It sounds like your next Band-Maid reaction should be to their song "No God"! 😄 But it is quite funny to see that as an exasperated response to picking a favorite Band-Maid song.
Amazing work, that was a great analysis of a survey I was glad to take, and felt really good about the way it was constructed. I think you really show you understand the real foundations of why this band and it's fandom are so unique in the greater fandom world. Bravo, and can't wait to react to more of your reactions. :)
Great in depth video. Started listening to these talented ladies 2 years ago . With “from now on” and loved the music that reminded me of what I listened to in my youth. I had gotten a little tried of listening to same old songs 100 of times and new metal had its moments but very few. What ready pulled me in more was their personalities and Ohrenj’s documentaries, the excitement of reactors and reading the fan base comments. Yes I’m glad to be a Maidiac! A Goal is to see them live and shout "Moe Moe, Kyun Kyun!" not sure why but just want to! 🤘🕊️🦍🥷👸🏻👀PO!
Hello Princess Leo. Ha, ha! A big shoutout for your video. You are a true passionate Band-Maid fan, a Maidiac. Thank you so much. I've been a fan for almost 3 years so I can't add more interesting personal things about Band-Maid. I think I should chat on the Ohrenje Discord but I need to register first. Lol. I have a story about promoting Band-Maid that I did recently and I'll talk about it then. So see you soon Leo.
Very interesting (I don't use Discord so missed your survey). I agree that the fandom is dedicated to spreading the word about Band-Maid and want to see them get larger and larger. In the past there has been a couple of trolls but they got banned after a while and yes there are still some fans that have little regard for "pop" music, but for the most part the fans are all good people joining together to help promote the band. Thanks for doing this and thanks for reacting to Band-Maid. And I would guess that most of us also support other bands (especially the rock/metal female bands from Japan - you've probably already received requests for bands like "Lovebites" or "Nemophila") - we can admire the musicianship of these other bands (but still hold Band-Maid as special).
Really enjoyable and interesting video, thank you for going to all this effort! I'm glad you've had such a good experience with BMCD as well, I've very much enjoyed my time with the community there as well. In regard to music from my favourite decade: I would like to recommend Haken, they're a British Progressive Metal Band that formed in the 2000s and had their breakout in the 2010s, they're probably my other favourite Band aside from Band-Maid, they also take a really creative approach to their compositions so each of their albums are really distinct and interesting in their own way. I'd especially recommend their 2013 Album 'The Mountain' (which also has their most well-known song 'Cockroach King'), and also their most recent album from last year 'Fauna'.
I've only seen the Maids 3 times, every show was different with a familiar format omajinai time is just fun and interactive Miku could be a stand up comic!
Love your perspectives. It was the Pandemic lockdown where I discovered BM. Since then I've been lucky to see them twice in the US. 2022 and 2023. Oh, and I'm late 40s. So 80s rock, Punk, Metal, Grunge, lived through all of it. What I truly love is how they mix all forms of Rock into their own sound. Rock didn't die it just moved to Japan!
41:50 yes, a few Band-Maid fans are pretty snobbish about other music. You can notice it in reactions to the collaboration with the Warning (but there’s the same reaction of a minority of Warning fans to Band-Maid). I completely agree with you that it is an attitude to music that’s not exactly impressive. Music is not an exact science, it’s an art, and ultimately there is no exact measure of quality. Ultimately, it is a matter of taste, even if I agree with Miles Davis that there are just two kinds of music, good and bad. But this implies that Band-Maid cannot be the only good music. In fact, Kanami listened to classical music all her youth, and cites Santana as one of her influences. And Band-Maid and The Warning love each other’s music, so as a fan, you should at least be open-minded. (By the way, there’s a great vlog on The Warning’s channel with behind the scenes views of the collaboration, and the two bands are so openly wooing one another that it’s difficult not to cry happy tears as you watch. And that’s what fans of both bands will feel.)
Thank you so much for featuring Band-Maid and their fans. Band-Maid is my favourite band of all time..and yes, I am one of their older fans (but I can still rock out with the best of em, heheh..)..and yes the Band-Maid fandom has acquired quite the reputation as being the most wholesome fandom out there! Very cool vid!💯
Thanks for this video!, i'm one of the discord dorks who answered your survey... i actually saw my comment highlighted on your vid lol The B-M community is a very welcoming one because we are still a relatively small fandom, compared to other bands, so we will try to mantain that "family" feeling as long as possible As for the musical "snobbery" i think is a generational gap more than anything else. A rock enthusiast dude in his 50/60's is probably likely to enjoy less (or nothing) of the mainstream pop music nowadays, but i agreed that some of them could explain this matter in a less rude or dismissive way, yeah
I'm from Canada, Montréal, Québec, i discover band-maid when a Babymetal's fan, after the Babymetal life show New-York 2014 in Hammertein hall, send me thrill vidéo in november 2014. Rigth now about have 55 olds. I love rock music also Electronic music, i'm not metal head, but i can listen this. I follow band-maid since 2014. I almost bought all dvd, lp's , Dvd by band-maid. I think, band-maid it's a band most underrated in the world. The Warning would more exposure for them. The reason the collaboration with hers. I love band-maid because is ernegetic rock band, i love charismatic Miku, i love the riff the guitar, the bass, the rhythm of beat and vocals. I love everything!😅 Yes the image is really breathing....look is so nice! Love them. Kanami is genius composer and lyrics by Miku is so cool! My other favorite band, Babymetal, older Big country from Scotland, Scandal from japan, Jean-Michel Jarre from France, Tangerine dream from Germany, The Alan Parson project from England. I suggest listen care big country with Driving Damacus you surely understand why love band-maid. Perfect world song by big country.... suggest also listen Divine attack by Babymetal. For band-maid suggest listen influencer if you no listen this. Also saw band-maid in live New-York 2019 and Boston 2022.
Hi Miko. I was also a fan of Tangerine Dream, period 1975/78 and of Klaus Schulze (ex Tangerine Dream). Maybe the variety of our musical tastes is why we love Band-Maid, I suppose. I am 66 years old.
I like MISA's opening ceremony during the live shows. I wanted to join "The Society of the Tiny Hat" but I have found one does not find The Tiny Hat, The Tiny Hat finds you. 🤠
❤WELCOME HOME PRINCESS. I’M AROUND THE SAME AGE WITH THE MAIDS. I DID NOT ASNWER YOUR survey BECAUSE. THERE NO QUESTIONS FOR ME IN YOUR SURVEY. I BECAME BAND MAID FAN NOT BECUSE OF THEIR MUSIC/SONGS. I’M ONLY HERE FOR TEASER. I AM DEFINITELY COME BACK AGAIN AND DIGEST OUR PRINCESS HARD WORKSsssssss. THANK YOU SO MUCH. RIGHT NOW YOU R THE MOST BEAUTIFUL & WONDERFUL IN THE WORLD😊.
I missed your survey, but I am a 32 year old guy from Canada. The first time I heard about BAND-MAID was in 2017 when I saw a UA-cam thumbnail for one of their music videos ( I don't know which one). I though they were just going to be a cute girl J-Pop maid gimmick, so I refused to listen to them. I finally gave in in 2018 and immediately regretted my decision to not give them a shot earlier. They are some of the most talented musicians I have ever heard, and I will never truly forgive myself for my initial judgement until I get to see them live. Hopefully they come to Canada one day, but I am more than willing to travel to see them.
"problem with choosing a favorite song". Are you kidding me? I have around 80 songs on my Band-Maid Top 10 List. There is no way I can narrow it down to one song. (LOL)
A reaction channel introduced me to Band Maid. The Maids are fans of his channel. I saw them in Dallas October 2022 for Miku's Birthday. I met the guy who introduced me to them. The video is redacted to was Dice in 2019.
Dearest Leo, that was the most fantastic introduction to the band and it's fans that I have ever seen from a new fan. Another is React Attack is doing pretty well going through their catalog of songs. The more you listen, the more you can hear in the compositions- the layers. There are many things that don't get mentioned about fans that are just a given. Like buying unsold expensive VIP tickets for shows and giving them to fans in the queue outside the venue, with families, or older folk that find it difficult standing for 2-3 hours- the usual length of a band-Maid show. Sharing hotel rooms, giving lifts and tickets to fans going on to the next shows. I think one reactor- RM planned on going to two shows on one tour of the US and ended up going to six. After seeing your reaction I think that Band-Maid are already the most documented band in the history of rock music- most such things usually get done after a band has disbanded. Thanks again (UK) PS. Yes- a European tour has got to be next. It's a simple fact that most fans are in the US because they have had three tours in the last two years.
I’d wager that many of the 60 year old guys that like Band-Maid are fathers of 30 year old daughters (it’s my case anyway, 59 year old dude with one daughter that’s 33 and another that’s 26). The Warning is another band that many of them like. It’s a reaction, I think, to the misogyny that we grew up with, and what our daughters have been telling us about it. I couldn’t have imagined being into an all female band when I was a young man. They weren’t taken seriously. Well, you live and learn. And seeing your daughters growing into women makes you appreciate women differently. Sure, some men will drool over the maids because they’re cute, and express similar judgements regarding the Villarreal sisters of The Warning. But compared to other female artists, the bands hardly play on their looks. They prefer to impress through their professionalism and their passion. I think the responses to your survey are sincere. The more intelligent mature men have perhaps understood that masculinity is not a value per se, and that on the contrary, men have been screwing up long enough. Let young women rule. We will be happy to watch them save the world, and applaud. And we will support them and protect them as best we can, just as we do with our daughters.
The members are slightly older than my daughters. I found Band Maid in 2018 and have enjoyed their growing in fans and their compositions and musicianship. So I feel proud of them. Kind of like having adopted 5 Japanese girls.
Speaking as a 60+ y/o dude in the west, it's because we don't get any good music being created in the western world and haven't for 3 decades, if you look at concert footage in other countries (Asia) you will see younger audiences. I become an instant Maidiac in 2016, so not ten years, but quite early for someone in the Washington State, being exposed to them has opened me up to so many Japanese hard rock and metal bands, along with several other countries in Asia, I listen to this music 99% of the time now, I almost never go back to the same Old music that for me is so played out boring and lacking the musicianship that groups like Band Maid provide, it's just kind of a bummer that we finally got these great band's so late in our lives, making it impossible to enjoy them for as long as young folks who don't yet appreciate them have the opportunity to do so.
Sorry missed the survey but I love what you did with it. On the part about weather Madiacs get on with other fan bases unfortunately I would have to say it depends on the Band for Example for some reason in the past at least BabyMetal was considered an enemy (absolute rubbish in my book) also LoveBite and Band-Maid fandoms have been known to clash, but in the Madiacs defense I personally have noticed it usually starts with a comment from the Wolfpack (an aggressively protective part of the Lovebites fandom) which then escalates. I find this particularly sad as I LOVE both of these other Bands. On the part of not being tolerant of things like POP again I have to reluctantly agree with a Caveat and that is what most (of those that don't)and I include myself in this is that they only like a song/singer if they are GOOD (I personally like a couple Adele songs) and unfortunately in MY opinion most POP artists ARE NOT and I mean this by their use of Autotune/Pitch correction as a crutch not an enhancement and the lack of any kind of REAL music (just using a generic programmed synth). Overall tho I think a lot of Madiacs have a diverse music taste and are very supportive of other Genres
If all that you said had been a thesis on Band-Maid then your 1st Class with Honours Maidology Degree would be in the post! Fantastic appreciation of the fandom and the band - you've clearly been busy exploring and, in case you're not sure, yes, you are now a Maidiac! Look forward to all your future Band-Maid reactions, of which I am sure there will be many (well, you do have over a 120 more songs to experience). PS Majinai Time (which translates as Magic Spell Time) is the part of their live shows where Miku speaks to the audience while the rest of the band take a break or fool around onstage. Miku uses certain phrases from her maid cafe days and gets the audience to repeat them, fools around with the crowd and the band and makes everyone smile and laugh for 5-15 minutes, depending on how things go. One time, on their last USA tour, the band found a bowling alley near the stage and went and played that while Miku chatted away and another time all the band took a go on the drums during Miku's chat ( ua-cam.com/video/x6iSf73LiQ0/v-deo.htmlsi=KglKFL9o_TAC1Zai ) .
I am really curious about the low turnout by women at Band-Maid gigs because I watch a lot of women reactors who discover Band-Maid and are blown away by them. Maybe it's just that they don't wanna be surrounded by big sweaty bearded middle aged men.
Subscribed. BAND-MAID is an awesome band.🔥🔥 If you would like to explore more and expand your channel, may I suggest a reaction to BABYMETAL. They are unique and have a worldwide fan base (The One). Their music has a positive and uplifting message. They have a fun and awesome performance: BABYMETAL - PA PA YA!! (feat. F.HERO) (OFFICIAL) Or: MAYA【Live Blu-ray/DVD「BABYMETAL BEGINS - THE OTHER ONE -」"BLACK NIGHT"】 Or to showcase the lead singer’s amazing voice: BABYMETAL - Monochrome - Piano ver. / THE FIRST TAKE 🖖 ❤
Bon.
I mean, I have been searching my whole life for a band that just rocks out and delivers fast drums all day. As an example, we all loved Smashing Pumpkins at first, then they drifted off into slow songs and techno. Band Maid rocks forever. Somehow they can write hard rock that can emote at the same time. 🕊️❄️🍌🥷🎸. Just listen to YoLo, Kanami is a genius😊

very true. Reminds me of the 70's and 80's Rock I grew up with

YES!!
I'll tell you what it's like to go to a Band-Maid concert, it's like coming home.
I think it’s like reliving your first time ever attending a rock concert.

100% correct :)
The Ladies of Band-Maid took the withered coals of my love and joy of music, and blew them back to life. They then added kindling, and fuel to make them burn to new heights.

Yup. Right there with you. Joy is the first word that comes to my mind when I think of Band-Maid. I had given up on joy till I found them.
This video was very enjoyable. I'm 72 yrs old and discovered Band Maid 4 yrs ago through their DICE video. Since then, there has not been one single day of not listening to them. I recently read a comment that it is considered rude in Japan to ask personal questions, such as "are you married",etc.
Thank you for taking the time to create this video.
I'm getting exposed 🤣 Thank you for this amazing video Leo!
I'm very glad that you're in the best fandom ever!

Aw ... you are just saying that because of me ... ok, maybe not :p .

Their music can touch everyone with its positivity and connectivity with the fans.
in my 40s, discovered BM through The Warning.
2 great bands
Good work!

There’s a dad joke! She gets us.
Fandom’s Fav album guess is World Domination.
That or Unseen World, but if I had to put money, I’d pick World Domination
Darn, got it reversed.
@18:32
My guess, and personal pick would be *Just Bring It* 🤔
I'm a 60 year old rocker.
I think that was me at 20:50
Some may consider that asking for someone to pick their favorite Band-Maid song is proof that God does not exist, but I did choose their song "No God" as my favorite.
Of course this is only at the time of the survey and it has changed a couple of times since then 😅
Thank you so much for this video. I'm loving your other stuff and will be taking a look at that Ethel Cain video you linked.

But it is quite funny to see that as an exasperated response to picking a favorite Band-Maid song.
What a great video, Leo! Thank you so much. Welcome home! 🙂

Thank you for this in depth video! Thank you for listening to Band-Maid! 🤘❤🤟
Yes, speaking pigeon. Your survey is pretty much spot on. With this video you made a lot Maidiacs happy. Thank You Princess!
A lot of Masters and princesses are musicians themselves. I'm a bass guitarist for 45 years, and these girls can play!!!
That was an incredible video and the survey was such a good idea 😁(I'm waiting for Band-Maid to come to France too)
Thanks for an impressive review Leo. I hope the band will make it to Europe soon.
I've only seen the Maids 3 times, every show was different with a familiar format omajinai time is just fun and interactive Miku could be a stand up comic!
I from Belize and a band maid fan for over 5 years ,princess
Thanks for this video!, i'm one of the discord dorks who answered your survey... i actually saw my comment highlighted on your vid lol
The B-M community is a very welcoming one because we are still a relatively small fandom, compared to other bands, so we will try to mantain that "family" feeling as long as possible
As for the musical "snobbery" i think is a generational gap more than anything else.

Welcome home princess ❤
20:58 Yes, all of them. 🕊️🎤🎸🍺🦍
Thank you for this research! It was very interesting. There is indeed a very big problem with choosing a favorite song 🤣
"problem with choosing a favorite song". Are you kidding me? I have around 80 songs on my Band-Maid Top 10 List. There is no way I can narrow it down to one song. (LOL)
I am surprised that the number one answer was not "The song I just listened to"
A reaction channel introduced me to Band Maid. The Maids are fans of his channel. I saw them in Dallas October 2022 for Miku's Birthday. I met the guy who introduced me to them. The video is redacted to was Dice in 2019.
I was there too. Fist bumped Mr. Rock n Roll on the floor after the show. I was looking for wayward guitar picks. LOL
Two song on the new album have mixed Japanese/French lyrics 😊 enjoy
Carrier Pigeon Power, Po! 🕊️🎶🎶🎶🎶
More power to you 😊
Excellent content! Thanks for your video. You are quite insightful.
Really great video! Merci beaucoup!!
Yes, encouraging reaction videos is indeed a genius move on their part.
I never thought I'd hear Ethel Cain and Band-Maid mentioned in the same breath. This was a great video po! 🕊️❤️
Yes yes yes I'm gonna mention Ethel Cain in every video 😂🫶 thank you!!
2015 I was a fan ...
August 2016 - a little late!!!
68-year-old Maidiac here! Rock will never die.
Never ❤️🔥
If all that you said had been a thesis on Band-Maid then your 1st Class with Honours Maidology Degree would be in the post!
Leo, keep vibing with more Band-Maid. Please do the OMV of their songs “Daydreaming” or “Bubble”.

I am really curious about the low turnout by women at Band-Maid gigs because I watch a lot of women reactors who discover Band-Maid and are blown away by them. Maybe it's just that they don't wanna be surrounded by big sweaty bearded middle aged men.

Bon.
Ecouter B-M m'a appris à développer mon écoute active.
U no speak pigeon po?
If I try to speak English + pigeon I won't make any sense anymore 😂 I already feel like my accent is so strong 😭
Speaking pigeon is easy just say what u would normally say, then add po to the end , n occasionally just blurt out kuruppo! @LEO_IS_VIBINGG
Excellent summary.
